Resistivity Tomography in an Inclined Borehole to Surface Purvey Using a Pole-dipole Array (단극-쌍극자 배열을 이용한 경사시추공-지표 탐사에서 전기비저항 토모그래피)

  • In an electrical tomographic survey using an inclined borehole with a pole-dipole array, we must consider several factors: a singular point associated with zero potential difference, a spatial discrepancy between electrode and nodal point in a model due to a inclined borehole, and a variation of geometric factors in connection with a irregular topography. Singular points which are represented by the normal distance from current source to the ground surface can be represented by serveral regions due to a irregular topography of ground surface. The method of element division can be applied to the region in which the borehole is curved, inclined or the distance between the electrodes is shorter than that of nodal points, because the coordinate of each electrode cannot be assigned directly to the nodal point if several electrodes are in an element. Test on a three-dimensional (3-D) synthetic model produces good images of conductive target and shoves stable convergence.

  • This paper compares the SE-MMA (Signed Error-MMA) and QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm in order to compensates the intersymbol interference due to channel in the transmission of spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal such as 16-QAM. In the currently MMA adaptive equalizer, the error signal is needed for the updating the tap coefficient. The SE-MMA uses the polarity of error signal for reduce the computational operation in that process, the QE-MMA consider the this polarity and finite bit power-of-2 quantized component in that process, so they has different equalization performance. In order to comparing these performance, the computer simulation was performed in the same channel and environment, the output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi and maximum distortion, MSE, SER were applied. As a result of computer simulation, the QE-MMA have more superior performance than the SE-MMA in every performance index.

  • This paper compare the adative equalization performance of the DSE-MMA (Dithered Signed-Error MMA) and QE-MMA (Quantized-Error MMA) which has a simplifies the computational operation of currently used MMA algorithm. The DSE-MMA possible to improve the rubustness to noise by using the dithered signal consider the polarity of error signal in the multiplication part. In QE-MMA, it use the polarity of error signal after performing the nonlinear power-of-two quantizing operation for easiness of H/W implementation. The same channel environment was applied, and it's performance of the output signal constellation, the residual isi and maximum distortion and MSE that means the convergence characteristics, the SER that means the robustness of external noise of algorithm were compared and evaluated. As a result of computer simulation, the QE-MMA has more good in constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE performanc than DSE-MMA. In SER, the DSE-MMA has more robust due to dither signal than QE-MMA.

  • Due to the polar characteristics of silica compared to carbon black, the degree of silica dispersion, which affects the mechanical properties of rubber compounds, is an important issue. Wolff first introduced the in-rubber structure of particles (${\alpha}_F$) to express the structure development in the compounds; however, with the introduction of bifunctional silanes, his theory could not explain the 3-dimensional network structure of the compounds. Later his theory was expanded to express the composite interaction parameter (in-rubber structure of the compound) (${\alpha}_C$), which included Wolff's filler-filler interaction parameter (${\alpha}_F$), however, there was no reported experimental result proving the theory. This research first experimentally expressed the in-rubber structure of the compound ${\alpha}_C$ (= ${\alpha}_F+{\alpha}_{FP}$(filler-silane-rubber interaction parameter) + ${\alpha}_P$ (rubber-rubber interaction parameter)) upon mono- and bifunctional silane treated silica filled natural rubber (NR) compounds. Using different structure silanes, i.e. PTES, OTES, TESPD, and TESPT, the ${\alpha}_C$ value of each compound was measured and calculated. The ${\alpha}_C$ value of TESPT treated silica filled compound was 1.64, which composed of ${\alpha}_F$ (0.99), ${\alpha}_{FP}$ (0.31), and ${\alpha}_P$ (0.34).

The Influence of Plasma Surface Modification on Frictional Property of Natural Rubber Vulcanizates

  • The plasma surface modification of natural rubber vulcanizate was carried out using chlorodifluoromethane in a radio-frequency (13.56 MHz) electrodeless bell type plasma reactor. The modification was qualitatively assessed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The frictional force of the plasma-treated surface was found to decrease with the time of plasma treatment. An increase in the surface polarity, as evidenced by the decrease in contact angle of a sessile drop of water and ethylene glycol on the natural rubber vulcanizate surface, was noted with the plasma modification. In the case of similar plasma treatment of glass surface, only a reduction in the polarity was observed. The use of geometric and harmonic mean methods was found to be useful to evaluate the London dispersive and specific components of surface free energy. Irrespective of the method used for evaluation, an increasing trend in the surface free energy was noted with increasing plasma treatment time. However, the harmonic mean method yielded comparatively higher values of surface free energy than the geometric mean method. The plasma surface modification was found to vary the frictional coefficient by influencing the interfacial, hysteresis and viscous components of friction in opposing dual manners.

  • Three kinds of hydrogel membranes were prepared by the copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) with acrylamide, N, N-dimethylamide and methylmethacrylate in the presence of solvent and crosslinker respectively. The equilibrium water content, relative permeability and partition coefficient of the membranes for alcohol solutes were measured. It has been found that the permeation of organic solute occurs through the water-filled regions in the hydrogel membrane, and that the gpermeability coefficient of organic solute depends on the molecular size. But the permeability of organic solute was controlled by the interaction of solute-membrane at the low water content. By the partition data, it has been shown that the partition of solute is only controlled by hydrophobic interaction between solute and membrane. The diffusion coefficient data were interpreted on the basis of water-solute interaction. It has been found that the diffusion of organic solute is determined by the free volume of water in the membrane, and that hardly depends on polarity-polarizability and hydrogen bonding ability between water and solute.

Chemical and Spectroscopic Characterization of Soil Humic and Fulvic Acids and Sorption Coefficient of Phenanthrene: A Correlation Study (토양 휴믹물질의 화학적.분광학적 특성에 따른 페난트린 흡착상수와의 상관성 규명에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the organic carbon normalized-sorption coefficients (Koc) for the binding affinity of phenanthrene (PHE) to 16 different soil humic and fulvic acids of various origins were determined by fluorescence quenching. The humic and fulvic acids used in this study were isolated from 6 different domestic soils including Mt. Hanla soil, IHSS standard soil and peat as well as Aldrich humic acid and characterized by elemental composition, ultraviolet absorption at 254 nm, composition of main structural fragments determined by CPMAS $^{13}$C NMR. The Koc values($\times$10$^4$, L/kg C) for each of HA and FA samples were in the range of 1.48$\sim$8.65 and higher in HA compared to that of FA(3.13$\sim$8.65 vs 1.48$\sim$2.48) in the experimental condition([PHE]/[HS] = 0.02$\sim$0.2(mg/L)/(mg-OC/L), pH 6). The correlation study between the structural descriptors of humic and fulvic acids and log Koc values of phenanthrene, show that the magnitude of Koc values positively correlated with the UV$_{254}$ absorptivity([ABS]$_{254}$) and two $^{13}$C NMR descriptors (C$_{Ar-H,C}$, $\sum$C$_{Ar}$/$\sum$C$_{Alk}$), while negatively correlated with the independent descriptors of the(N+O)/C atomic ratios and $^{13}$C NMR descriptors (I$_{C-O}$/I$_{C-H,C}$). These results confirmed that the binding affinity for the hydrophobic organic compound, phenanthrene are significantly influenced by the polarity and aromaticity of soil humc and fulvic acids.

THE EFFECT OF ETHYLENE GLYCOL ANALOGS ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF MOIST DEMINERALIZED DENTIN MATRIX (Ethylene Glycol 유사체가 탈회된 상아질의 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of ethylene glycol analogs on modulus of elasticity and ultimate tensile strength of moist, demineralized dentin matrix. Methods: Dentin disks 0.5 mrn thick were prepared from mid-coronal dentin of extracted. unerupted, human third molars. 'I' beam and hour-glass shaped specimens were prepared from the disks, the ends protected with nail varnish and the central regions completely demineralized in 0.5M EDTA for 5 days. Ultimate tensile stress (UTS) and low strain modulus of elasticity (E) were determined with specimens immersed for 60 min in distilled water $(H_{2}O)$, ethylene glycol $(HO-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-OH)$, 2-methoxyethanol $(H_{3}CO-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-OH)$, and 1,2-dimethoxyethane $(H_{3}CO-CH_{2}-CH_{3}-OCH_{3})$ prior to testing in those same media. Modulus of elasticity was measured on the same specimens in a repeated measures experimental design. The results were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA on ranks, followed by Dunn's test at ${\alpha}\;=\;0.05$. Regression analysis examined the relationship between UTS or E and hoy's solubility parameter for hydrogen bonding $({\delta}_{h})$ of each solvent. Results: The UTS of demineralized dentin in water, ethylene glycol, 2-methoxyethanol, and 1,2-dimethoxyethane was 24 (3), 30 (5), 37 (6), and 45 (6) MPa, ${\times}$ (SD) N = 10. Low strain E for the same media were 16 (13), 23 (14), 52 (24), and 62 (22) MPa. Regression analysis of UTS vs ${\delta}_{h}$ revealed a significant $(p\;<\;0.0001,\;r\;=\;-0.99,\;R^{2}\;=\;0.98)$ inverse, exponential relationship. A similar inverse relationship was obtained between low strain E vs ${\delta}_{h}\;(p\;<\;0.0005,\;r\;=\;-0.93,\;R^{2}\;=\;0.86)$. Significance: The tensile properties of demineralized dentin are dependent upon the hydrogen bonding ability of polar solvents $({\delta}_{h})$. Solvents with low ${\delta}_{h}$ values may permit new interpeptide H-bonding in collagen that increases its tensile properties. Solvents with high ${\delta}_{h}$ values prevent the development of these new interpeptide H-bonds.

  • Inkjet printed silver films were fabricated using nano particles with the size of ~ 20 nm. We can obtain very good conducting silver films with the resistivity of $7.3\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ even though they were sintered at the very low temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. The electrical and mechanical properties of inkjet printed silver lines were measured with the sintering time and analyzed with the micro-structural development. The measured resistivity of inkjet printed Ag films were $57.4\;{\sim}\;7.3\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. And their hardness and Young's modulus were 0.98 ~ 1.72 GPa and 32 ~ 71 GPa, respectively.

  • The fluorescent lamp has been successfully modeled by employing the radial variation of particle density and considering driving circuit effects on the characteristics of discharge process. The electron energy distribution is assumed to have a Maxwellian. The electron mobility and the ambipolar diffusion coefficients are considered to vary with an electron energy rather than a simple uniform value. Energy states of mercury atom in the discharge process are regarded as six levels rather than simple 4 or 5 levels. These discharge processes have been accurately solved by numerically employing mixed the FDM and the 2nd Runge-Kutta method. This model was applied to analyzing real circuit.
