Comparison of SGM Cost for DSM Generation Using Satellite Images (위성영상으로 DSM을 생성하기 위한 SGM Cost의 비교)

  • This study applied SGM (Semi Global Matching) to generate DSM (Digital Surface Model) using WorldView-1 high-resolution satellite stereo pair in Terrassa, Spain provided by ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing). The SGM is an image matching algorithm that performs the computation of the matching cost for the stereo pair in multi-paths and aggregates the computed costs sequentially. This method finally calculates the disparity corresponding to the minimum (or maximum) value of the aggregation cost. The cost was applied to MI (Mutual Information), NCC (Normalized Cross-Correlation), and CT (Census Transform) in order to the SGM. The accuracy and performance of the outline representation result in DSM by each cost are presented. Based on the images used and the subject area, the accuracy of the CT cost results was the highest, and the outline representation was also most clearly depicted. In addition, while the SGM method represented more detailed outlines than the existing software, many errors occurred in the water area.

A Study on the Reduction of Reaction Mechanism for the Ignition of Dimethyl Ether (디메틸 에테르 착화에 관한 반응기구 축소 연구)

  • The numerical analysis of the reduction of reaction mechanism for the ignition of dimethyl ether (DME) was performed. On the basis of a detailed reaction mechanism involving 79 species and 351 reactions, the peak molar concentration and sensitivity analysis were conducted in a homogeneous reactor model. The reduced reaction mechanism involving 44 species and 166 reactions at the threshold value $7.5{\times}10^{-5}$ of the molar peak concentration was established by comparing the ignition delays the reduced mechanism with those the detailed mechanism. The predicted results of the reduced mechanism applied to the single-zone homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine model were in agreement with those of the detailed mechanism. Therefore, this reduced mechanism can be used to accurately simulate the ignition and combustion process of compression ignition engine using DME fuel.

  • This paper presents the fast multipole boundary element method (FM-BEM) as a new BEM solution methodology that overcomes many disadvantages of conventional BEM. In conventional BEM, large-scale problems cannot be treated easily because the computation time increases rapidly with an increase in the number of boundary elements owing to the dense coefficient matrix. Analysis results are obtained to compare FM-BEM with conventional BEM in terms of computation time and accuracy for a simple two-dimensional steady-state heat conduction problem. It is confirmed that the FM-BEM solution methodology greatly enhances the computation speed while maintaining solution accuracy similar to that of conventional BEM. As a result, the theory and implementation algorithm of FM-BEM are discussed in this study.

Numerical Simulation of Wave Deformation due to a Submerged Structure with a Second-order VOF Method (2차 정확도 VOF기법을 활용한 수중구조물에 의한 파랑변화 예측)

  • A three-dimensional numerical model is employed to investigate wave deformation due to a submerged structure. The three-dimensional numerical model solves the spatially averaged Navier-Stokes equations for two-phase flows. The LES(large-eddy-simulation) approach is adopted to model the turbulence effect by using the Smagorinsky SGS(sub-grid scale) closure model. The two-step projection method is employed in the numerical solutions, aided by the Bi-CGSTAB technique to solve the pressure Poisson equation for the filtered pressure field. The second-order accurate VOF(volume-of-fluid) method is used to track the distorted and broken free surface. A simple linear wave is generated on a constant depth and compared with analytical solutions. The model is then applied to study wave deformation due to a submerged structure and the predicted results are compared with available laboratory measurements.

A Study on Performance Enhancement in Simulation Fidelity Using a Meta Model (메타모델(Meta Model)을 활용한 시뮬레이터 구현충실도 향상 연구)

  • In this paper, a meta model using neural network substituting for the simulator aerodynamic database is proposed to improve simulation fidelity near the critical flight area and real-time performance. It is shown that the accuracy of the meta model is relatively higher than the existing table lookup methods for arbitrary nonlinear database and the calculation speed is also improved for a specific F-16 maneuver simulation. The increase in the number of hidden nodes in the meta model for better accuracy of database representations causes a delay in function generation due to increased time required for computing exponential functions. In order to make up this drawback, we additionally study the fast exponential function method.

A Study on Wave Transformation Analysis using Higher-Order Finite Element (고차유한요소의 파랑변형해석에의 적용에 관한 소고)

  • The present study introduces a Legendre interpolation function which is capable of analyzing wave transformation effectively in a finite element method. A Lagrangian interpolation function has been mostly used for a finite element method with a higher-order interpolation function. Although this function has an advantage of giving an accurate result with less number of elements, simulation time increases. Calculation time can be reduced by mass lumping, whereas the accuracy of solution is lowered. In this study, we introduce a modified Lagrangian interpolation function, Legendre cardinal interpolation, which can reduce simulation time with keeping up favorable accuracy. Through various numerical simulations using a Boussinesq equations model, the superiority of the Legendre cardinal interpolation function to a Lagrangian interpolation function was shown.

An Efficient Approach on Reliability Analysis under Multidisciplinary Analysis Systems (다분야 통합해석 시스템의 효율적인 신뢰성 해석기법 연구)

  • Existing methods have performed the reliability analysis using nonlinear optimization techniques. This is mainly due to the fact that they directly apply Multidisciplinary Design Optimization(MDO) frameworks to the reliability analysis formulation. Accordingly, the reliability analysis and the Multidisciplinary Analysis(MDA) are tightly coupled in a single optimizer, which hampers utilizing the recursive and function-approximation based reliability analysis methods such as the Advanced First Order Reliability Method(AFORM). In order to utilize the efficient reliability analysis method under multidisciplinary analysis systems, we propose a new strategy named Sequential Approach on Reliability Analysis under Multidisciplinary analysis systems(SARAM). In this approach, the reliability analysis and the MDA are decomposed and arranged in a sequential manner, making a recursive loop. The efficiency of the SARAM method was verified using three illustrative examples taken from the literatures. Compared with existing methods, it showed the least number of subsystem analyses over other methods while maintaining accuracy.

Computational performance and accuracy of compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation (거리-도플러 추정을 위한 압축 센싱 알고리즘의 계산 성능과 정확도)

  • In active SONAR, several different methods are used to detect range-Doppler information of the target. Compressive sensing based method is more accurate than conventional methods and shows superior performance. There are several compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The ability of each algorithm depends on algorithm type, mutual coherence of sensing matrix, and signal to noise ratio. In this paper, we compared and analyzed computational performance and accuracy of various compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The performance of OMP (Orthogonal Matching Pursuit), CoSaMP (Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit), BPDN (CVX) (Basis Pursuit Denoising), LARS (Least Angle Regression) algorithms is respectively estimated for varying SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and mutual coherence. The optimal compressive sensing algorithm is presented according to the situation.

Development of Numerical Tank Using Open Source Libraries and Its Application (오픈 소스 라이브러리를 이용한 수치수조 구현 및 적용)

  • In this paper, ship performance prediction solver was developed using open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) libraries. The mass- and momentum-conservation equations and turbulent model with a wall function for the turbulent closer were considered. The volume fraction transport equation with a high-resolution interface capturing scheme were selected for free-surface simulation. The predicted wave pattern around KRISO container ship (KCS) using developed program showed good agreement against existing experimental data. For the revolution of a propeller in the propulsive test, general grid interface (GGI) library was used. The predicted propulsive performance showed 7 % difference against experimental data. Two-phase mixture model was developed to simulate a cavitation and applied to a propeller. The sheet cavitation on the propeller was predicted well. From results, the potential of the numerical tank developed by open source libraries was verified by applying it to KCS.

  • We present a new approximate formulation of the integral equation (IE) method for models with variable background conductivity. This method overcomes the standard limitation of the conventional If method related to the use of a horizontally layered background only. The new approximate IE method still employs the Green's functions for a horizontally layered 1-D model. However, the new method allows us to use an inhomogeneous background with the IE method. The method was carefully tested for modeling the EM field for complex structures with a known variable background conductivity. It can find wide application in modeling EM data for multiple geological models with some common geoelectrical features, like a known inhomogeneous overburden, or salt dome structures.
