  • In this paper the problem of a moving control of an automatic guided vehicle(AGV) which transports a dead body to a designated cinerator safely in a crematorium, an special indoor environment, will be discussed. Since a method of burying guided lines in the floor is not proper to such an environment, a method of moving control of an AGV based on infrared ray sensors is now proposed. With this approach, the AGV emits infrared ray to the landmarks adheres to the ceiling to find a moving direction and then moves that direction by recognizing them. One of the typical problems for this method is that dead zone and/or overlapping zone may exist when the landmarks are deployed. To resolve this problem, an algorithm of recognizing double landmarks at each time is applied to minimize occurrences of sensing error. In addition, at the turning area to entering the designated cinerator, to fit an AGV with the entrance of the designated cinerator, an algorithm of controlling the velocity of both the inner and outer wheel of it. The functional correctness of our proposed algorithm has been verified by using a prototype vehicle. Our real AGV system has been applied to a crematorium and it moves automatically within an allowable range of location error.

  • We study the connection time of vehicle-to-mobile roadside unit (V2MR) communications which can reduce the significant cost of the fixed RSU by installing a gateway of mobile network into a transit bus called the mobile RSU. In the V2MR communications, the connectivity of a commute vehicle can be improved via ad-hoc connection to a nearby mobile RSU. In this paper, we present a new analysis model to estimate the connection time between a commute vehicle and a mobile RSU, when there is a bus station in the overlapping route. Since the connection time between two vehicles is highly dynamic and unpredictable, our analysis will provide a fundamental basis of connection-time estimation of V2MR communications. Numerical results obtained from VEINS simulation show that our analysis can estimate the connection time of V2MR communications with the average error below 1.0 percent. Moreover, we show that the average connection time of V2MR communications can be extended to approximately 3.85 times of that of V2R communications.

  • Road signs are important facilities in terms of providing information to driver, they are helpful for driver's judgment as deliver it's own information. However if there is occurrence dew on the road sign because of the change of temperature and humidity, it can be cause of accidents. Therefore it is necessary to develop anti-dew or dew resistance technology. In this research the anti-dew technologies such as insulation road sign and anti-dew film were compared with normal road sign, and the effectiveness analysis was conducted for each alternatives. The quantity of dew on the road sign was check using ANOVA and Tukey HSD and the relation between the retro-reflectivity and quantity of dew on the sign was check using Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result, the sample of anti-dew film attached road sign showed lesser quantity of dew compared with normal road sign. After 90 seconds, the difference of dew quantity for anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed statistically significant result. The relation of between quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity was inverse correlation. As a result, when analyzed the quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity a point of view anti-dew effectiveness, the anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed meaningful result.

  • Crash cushions are protective devices that prevent errant vehicles from impacting on fixed objects. This function is accomplished by gradually decelerating a vehicle to a safe stop in a relatively short distance. Commonly used crash cushions generally employ one of two concepts to accomplish this function. The first concept involves the absorption of the kinetic energy of a moving vehicle by crushable or plastically deformable materials and the other one involves the transfer of the momentum of a moving vehicle to an expendable mass of material located in the vehicle's path. Crash cushions using the first concept are generally referred to as compression crash cushions and crash cushions using the other concept are generally referred to as inertial crash cushion. The objective of this research is the development of a compression-type crash cushion by employing the two concepts simultaneously. To minimize the number of full-scale crash tests for the development of the crash cushion, preliminary design guide considering inertial and frictional energy absorption was constructed and computer simulation was performed. LS-DYNA program, which is most widely used to analyze roadside safety features, was used for the computer simulation. The developed crash cushion satisfied the safety evaluation criteria for various impact conditions of CC2 performance level in the Korean design guide.

  • This paper presents a new localization technique of an UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle) by matching ortho-edge images generated from a DSM (Digital Surface Map) which represents the 3D geometric information of an outdoor navigation environment and 3D range data which is obtained from a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor mounted at the UGV. Recent UGV localization techniques mostly try to combine positioning sensors such as GPS (Global Positioning System), IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), and LIDAR. Especially, ICP (Iterative Closest Point)-based geometric registration techniques have been developed for UGV localization. However, the ICP-based geometric registration techniques are subject to fail to register 3D range data between LIDAR and DSM because the sensing directions of the two data are too different. In this paper, we introduce and match ortho-edge images between two different sensor data, 3D LIDAR and DSM, for the localization of the UGV. Details of new techniques to generating and matching ortho-edge images between LIDAR and DSM are presented which are followed by experimental results from four different navigation paths. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to a conventional ICP-based technique.

  • Various treatments can be attempted in patients with intractable epilepsy, in whom the symptoms of seizures are not controlled by various drugs. On the other hand, in patients requiring a surgical method, a preoperative examination is needed to determine the portion of seizure site to be resected. Electrodes are inserted into the cerebral cortex for accurate lesion measurements and safe operation. The electrodes inserted in the cortex not only record the electroencephalography (EEG), but also allow various tests to confirm the function of the part. One of these methods is the evoked potential test. From January 2015 to December 2018, the trends of measured waveforms in were analyzed 70 patients. The somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) recorded on the electrode inserted in the cerebral cortex can be searched for the pathway of the central sulcus to avoid the primary motor area and primary sensory area. In addition, using the middle latency auditory evoked potentials (MLAEP) and flash visual evoked potentials (FVEP), the functional cortex in the auditory cortex and the visual cortex were compared with the seizure focus point on the EEG to help determine the location of the ablation and minimize functional impairment after surgery.

  • The key features of 5G mobile communications recently commercialized can be represented by High Data Rate, Connection Density and Low Latency, of which the features most distinct from the existing 4G will be low Latency, which will be the foundation for various new service offerings. AR and self-driving technologies are being considered as services that utilize these features, and 5G Network Latency is also being discussed in related standards. However, it is true that the discussion of E2E Latency from a service perspective is much lacking. The final goal to achieve low Latency at 5G is to achieve 1ms of air interface based on RTD, which can be done through Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) through Rel-16 in early 20 years, and further network parity through Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is also being studied. In addition to 5G network-related factors, the overall 5G E2E Latency also includes link/equipment Latency on the path between the 5G network and the IDC server for service delivery, and the Processing Latency for service processing within the mobile app and server. Meanwhile, it is also necessary to study detailed service requirements by separating Latency for initial setup of service and Latency for continuous service. In this paper, the following three factors were reviewed for initial setup of service. First, the experiment and analysis presented the impact on Latency on the Latency in the case of 1 Data Lake Setup, 2 CRDX On/Off for efficient power, and finally 3H/O on Latency. Through this, we expect Low Latency to contribute to the service requirements and planning associated with Latency in the initial setup of the required services.

  • A meandering pulmonary vein (MPV) is a rare pulmonary vascular anomaly characterized by an abnormal course of the pulmonary vein draining into the left atrium. We report the case of a 55-year-old female who was diagnosed with a right MPV on pulmonary angiography. Enhanced chest CT revealed a vascular structure with an abnormal course that drained into the right superior pulmonary vein in the right upper lobe, which resembled a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Pulmonary angiography performed to discriminate between an MPV and pulmonary AVM showed no feeding artery, normal parenchymal staining, and drainage to the left atrium via the culprit vessel. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with MPV. When an MPV is difficult to differentiate from other vascular anomalies on enhanced chest CT, pulmonary angiography can be helpful. By recognizing the angiographic findings of an MPV, unnecessary treatment can be prevented.

  • Purpose: The morphological study and dynamic stability of the ulnar nerve around the elbow joint was investigated in asymptomatic normal population using ultrasonography. The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for ultrasonographic diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy in cubital tunnel syndrome. Materials and Methods: Fifty cases of 25 healthy male volunteers, aged between 20 to 30 years, included in this study. High resolution 7.5 MHz linear probe was used to examine the ulnar nerve in axial and longitudinal views. In a longitudinal view, the course, position and the thickness of nerve were monitored, the diameter of ulnar nerve and dynamic stability at elbow flexion and extension were measured in an axial view at four different points; 1cm proximal to medial epicondyle, behind the medial epicondyle, entrance to Osborne ligament, and 1cm distal to Osborne ligament. Results: The short diameters of ulnar nerve at elbow extension at four anatomic points were 2.66 mm, 2.97 mm, 2.64 mm, and 2.69 mm and the long diameters were 4.61 mm, 4.56 mm, 4.36 mm, and 4.37 mm, which showed no significant change at each point. However, at elbow flexion, the short diameters were changed to 2.72 mm, 2.34 mm, 2.65 mm, and 2.41 mm and the long diameters into 4.49 mm, 5.40 mm, 4.16 mm, and 4.66 mm. At elbow flexion, significant morphologic change was observed in the medial epicondyle area, and the diameter of the ulnar nerve was shortest at the entrance of Osborne ligament both at flexion and extension. In terms of dynamic stability, nine subluxations and seven dislocations were observed. Conclusion: This study shows dynamic instability and a morphological change of long and short diameters of ulnar nerve at flexion and extension in a normal person, which should be considered in the ultrasonographic diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy.
