An Analysis on the Visual Harmony of the Environmental Sculpture in Urban Streetscapes (도시가로 경관에 있어 환경조형물의 시각적 조화성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the basic guideline of the environmental sculptures to improve the quality level of the urban surroundings. The concept of the environmental sculptures was established and their roles in urban street scenary were investigated. And then, the relationships between the visual satisfaction and the elements which affect the visual harmony of Urban street scenary were analysed. The result of this study can be summarized as follows; The visual satisfaction was shown high at the sculptures itself with good shape and esthetic sense, and the harmony among the surroundings was estimated highly at the sculptures of good harmony with the floor surface, building and the elements surrounded it. And the highest satisfaction was shown at the scenary with the dean images and visual stability. The correlation of the degree of satisfaction with 5 variables which effect the satisfaction of urban streetscape shows that the harmony of shape is the most important variable for urban street scenary.

Users' Attitudes for the Trail Structures in Hallasan National Park, Korea - In the Case Study of Eorimok - (한라산국립공원 탐방로 보행시설에 대한 탐방객 태도 - 어리목 구간을 중심으로 -)

  • For maximum utility of trails, there is a need for better knowledge of characteristics of trail use and its users. The purpose of this study is to find out users' attitudes toward trail structures in Eorimok exploring route in Hallasan National Park managerial purposes. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 138 people on the way back home from their visit to the site from July to August, 2007. The geological conditions of 7 types of pedestrian trail structures were rated relatively high both in quantity and quality. The responses were noticeably positive about the natural materials used in wood deck and PP rope railings from the point of three aspects: harmony with nature, visitor convenience and resources conservation. It seems necessary to replace steel structures with native materials because such unnatural materials used in a natural setting are subject to visitor's resistance.

Users' Evaluation for the Trail Structures in the Dobong District of Bukhansan National Park, Korea (북한산국립공원 도봉지역 탐방로 보행시설에 대한 탐방객 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand users' attitudes for trail structure conditions in Dobong district, Bukhansan National Park, Korea. For this purpose, the research conducted a respondent's-personal entry-method based questionnaire survey on 250 visitors using inquiry routes in Dobong areas in Bukhansan National Park in July, 2007. The survey result showed that the 6 types of pedestrian trail structures were relatively in better shape in its quality and quantity while the responses for 3 types of structures, such as wood deck, wood railings, and stone paving, were positive in terms of harmony with landscape, preservation of resources, and user convenience. In conclusion, it is considered to be essential to bring in nature-friendly materials for walking facilities in National Parks and also necessary to consider the visual effect arising from the harmony with landscape together with the functions of conservation of resources and inquiry convenience.

A Study on Users' Evaluation for the Trail Facilities in Gayasan National Park, Korea (가야산국립공원 탐방로 보행시설에 대한 탐방객 평가 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out visitor's attitudes for trail facilities in Gayasan National Park in order to provide the basic information for effective installation and maintenance of trail facilities. The questionnaire survey on two trails were conducted to 227 visitors on the way back home after using the trails. The use characteristics of two trails were a little different from each other, and the conditions of two trails were rated relatively high both in quantity and quality. By the evaluation of 5 types of trail facilities in Haein trail and 4 types in Baegun trail, The responses were noticeably positive about wood deck, log steps with stones and wood steps in Haein trail and about deck-type wood steps and log fences in Baegun trail from the point of three aspects; harmony with nature, resources conservation and user convenience. On the other hand it seems necessary to replace the steel steps of both trails with eco-friendly materials. So, from now on it is necessary for introducing the trail facilities in National Parks to apply the eco-friendly materials extensively and to upgrade the design aspects comprehensively of harmony with nature, resources conservation and user convenience

A Critical Review on Regenerating a Place's Economic Value through Landscape Restructuring: The Case of Dongdaemun Stadium (경관 재구조화에 의한 장소의 경제적 가치 재생에 대한 비판적 검토 -동대문운동장의 사례-)

  • Dongdaemun Stadium was the nation's leading modem sports facilities built in 1926 by Japanese colonists. It hosted a number of the nation's sports matches and cultural performances, filled with cultural and historic significance as a birthplace of Korea's sports. As the facility was aging, however, its functions became limited. With the so-called "restoration" of Cheonggye Stream, the stadium was reduced to a flea market, no longer used for its originally intended purposes. The Seoul Metropolitan Government demolished the stadium under the plan to develop the district into a tourism cluster dedicated to the design and fashion industries. This study takes Dongdaemun Stadium as an example to explain underlying meanings of capitalist restructuring of landscape which entails removal of modern cultural relics and redevelopment projects. Although Dongdaemun Stadium was not used in the way it had been designated to be used, it still had a value as a diachronic and synchronic record for the city. The rationale that the stadium should be tom down and reinvented as tourist attraction to reap huge financial benefits illustrates that the city government's development ideology gravitated towards public works projects. This approach may harm a place's genuine disposition or essence and create an artificially-induced placeness, undermining its historio-cultural values.

Study on Characteristics of the Visual Perception of Historic Cultural Landscape - A Case of Gyeongbok Palace - (역사문화경관의 시지각적 특성에 관한 연구 - 경복궁 내부의 조망점을 중심으로 -)

  • Modern city doesn't have its own identity that differentiates itself from others despite the fact that each city has a historical value. This is due to the demolition of historical and regional values. As such problems are connected to urban problems, they become even more serious. Thus, the researchers of this study set Gyeongbokgung(Palace) as an object to look into landscape factors and found out the relations between psychological variables and preference. Then, the researchers analyzed the quantitative relations between the physical attributes of historic cultural landscape and human response. As such, the researchers aimed to set and propose a confirmed standard in terms of identity and regional & historical values of historic cultural landscape. Since this study was performed with an object of historic cultural landscape that was reproduced based on original landscape in the past, a future study should be on the difference in preference based on the proportion of modern landscape. Based on such studies, a new plan should be made for forming the urban historic cultural landscape.

  • 당산철교 경관조명 연출은 철교라는 특징에 부각하면서 독창성, 조화성, 기능성, 경제성, 관광성등을 고려하였으며. 디자인의 컨셉은 지하철 2호선의 상징 색이 Green컬러를 기본으로 구조적 조형미, 다양한 조망에 대한 배려, 빛의 색감, 조명 방식등을 기본컨셉으로로 하였으며, 전원공급은 지하철 2호선 당산역 구내 전기실을 이용하여 3상4선식 380/220V로 공급받아 남단과 북단에 각각 1개소에 PANEL을 설치하여 각각의 램프에 공급하였다.

Visual Improvement Analysis of Small Scale Urban Regeneration Projects Focusing on '72 Hour Project' (72시간 프로젝트로 본 소규모 유휴공간 재생 프로젝트의 경관적 개선 효과)

  • This research studied the effect of visual improvement of "72 Hour Project" that has regenerated small scale derelict spaces in Seoul through citizen participation. 29 projects built form 2016 to 2019 were analyzed. The research analyzed landscape image preference of before and after status of projects using 12 pairs of landscape adjectives. Basic statistical analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and ANOVA were performed based on the survey results. Since the satisfaction level of the projects compared with the before-condition was 3.63 higher than 3.00, it could be concluded that there was an meaningful effect of visual improvement after completion of the projects. As the result of the factor analysis, landscape adjective pairs were categorized into two factors: harmony and aesthetics. Through the cluster analysis, four clusters were formed and characteristics of each cluster were identified. As the result of rhe cluster analysis, the cluster with the high harmony level and the aesthetics level showed the highest overall satisfaction level. Comparing each cluster, it could be concluded that the factor of harmony was more important than the factor of aesthetics in evaluating the satisfaction level of projects. Analyzing qualitative aspects of project groups, spatially well-balanced design with generous vegetation areas was more effective in landscape improvement than artistic design with visually strong installations. Further researches based on behavior studies of actual users are required to compensate the limits of this research. This research can contribute to establish the improved direction of policies to regenerate various types of small scale derelict spaces.

  • Coastal landscape is a collective setting of artificial or natural elements along the seaside. The approach method for the coastal landscape formation is different from that of urban landscape formation. This study analyzes the mechanism of coastal landscape formation process in Japan in the aspects of recognition phase, formation phase, and practice phase. The characteristics of coastal landscape formation process in Japan are construction of a survey system for integrating diverse landscape elements as a final coastal landscape, construction of a coherent evaluation system responding the local natural and spatial characters, and building a cooperative system responding the police of coastal landscape formation. This study suggest the implications both for the improvement of domestic local values and for the ways of the domestic coastal landscape formation.
