This paper presents a multi-scale progressive fatigue damage model incorporating the model for interfacial debonding between fibers and matrix. The micromechanics model for the progressive interface debonding was adopted, which defined the four different interface phases: (1) perfectly bonded fibers; (2) mild imperfect interface; (3) severe imperfect interface; and (4) completely debonded fibers. As the number of cycles increases, the progressive transition from the perfectly bonded state to the completely debonded fiber state occurs. Eshelby's tensor for each imperfect state is calculated by the linear spring model for a damaged interface, and effective elastic properties are obtained using the multi-phase homogenization method. The fatigue damage evolution formulas for fiber, matrix and interface were proposed to demonstrate the fatigue behavior of CFRP laminates under cyclic loading. The material parameters for the fiber/matrix fatigue damage were characterized using the chaotic firefly algorithm. The model was implemented into the UMAT subroutine of ABAQUS, and successfully validated with flat-bar UD laminate specimens ([0]8,[90]8, [30]16) of AS4/3501-6 graphite/epoxy composite.
The radial mapping rule in bounding surface model was experimentally investigated by analyzing the drained stress probe tests on Chicago clays. The experimental data obtained from 10 drained stress probe paths were analyzed to calculate the directions of the plastic strain increments. The anisotropic bounding surface model was adopted to represent a bounding yield surface which resides in the pre-consolidation yield stress of undisturbed clays. The projection origins were estimated by finding the interceptions of the straight lines passing through the current stress point and the imaginary yield stress point on the bounding surface. The results show that the projection origin is not fixed at a point but moves toward the direction of the stress probe path after it is established around the initial stress point.

A finite element nonlinear stress-deformation model with multi-interface element is applied to the stability analysis of waste landfill slope. Strength parameters of waste and geosynthetic materials are obtained from the triaxial test of waste and the direct shear test of geosynthetics, respectively. The landfill models used for the numerical models are fit to regulations of the Korean waste management law. The results of the strength tests showed linear behavior for the waste and nonlinear behavior for the eosynthectic materials. The stability analysis with multi-interface element for the geosynthetic materials in the liner system showed large shear stress and slippage at the boundary of the foundation and the slope of the waste fill. This analysis verified the necessity of multi-interface analysis for waste landfills with composite liners.
The boundary element analysis has been attempted for investigating the singular stress at the interface edge of infinitely layered structure. The subdomain technique has been employed and the analysis model has been divided into two subdomains, which are respectively homogeneous elastic zones. The boundary element equation has been formulated using the equilibrium and continuity conditions at the common interface. The numerical results of example problem has been presented.
To predict the stress-strain behavior of the soil more approximately, the concept of the critical state soil mechanics was added to the plasticity increment theory in the bounding surface Plasticity model. This model was constituted with two ellipse and one hyperbola in older to describe the behaviour of the isotropically consolidated soil. Thus, this model is very complicate due to the various parameters used. Therefore, the accurate understanding and skill of the theory is required in order to apply this model to the practical geotechnical problems. In the present paper, the bounding surface shape paraiheter R and A, the mapping center parameter C among various parameters used were varied and the results were numerically analized. Finally, each sensitivity with respect to monotonic and cyclic loading was analized and the range of the value of the each parameter was proposed.

The interaction between the cell and the substrate is the most prominent feature affecting the migration of a crawling cell. This paper proposes a three-dimensional dynamic model using the diffuse interface description that reveals the effects of the interaction between a single crawling cell and the substrate during chemotactic migration. To illustrate the effects of interaction between the cell and the substrate, we consider the interfacial energy between the coexistent materials. Multiple mechanisms including the interface energy, chemotaxis effect, and diffusion, are addressed by employing a diffuse interface model.
High-frequency(40∼120 kHz) reflection loss measurements on the water-sandy sediment with a flat interface were conducted in a water tank for various grazing angles. The water tank(5×5×5 m) was filled with a 0.5 m-thick-flat bottom of 0.5ø-mean-grain-size sand. Reflection losses, which were experimentally obtained as a function of grazing angle and frequency, were compared with the forward loss model, APL-UW model (Mourad & Jackson, 1989). For frequencies below 60 kHz, the observed losses well agree with the reflection loss model, however, in cases for frequencies above 70 kHz, the observed losses are greater by 2∼3 dB than the model results. The model calculation, which does not fully account for the vertical scale of roughness due to grain size, produce less bottom losses compared to the observations that correspond to large roughness based on the Rayleigh parameter in the wave scattering theory. In conclusion, for the same grain-size-sediment, as frequencies increase, the grainsize becomes the scale of roughness that could be very large for the frequencies above 70 kHz. Therefore, although the sea bottom was flat, we have to consider the frequency dependence of an effect of roughness within confidential interval of grain size distribution in reflection loss model.

The laminar boundary layer along a streamwise corner formed by two flat plates intersecting at right angle is measured by using Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) technique. The free stream velocity ranges from 2.96m/s to 3.0m/s. The angle of incidence of the corner is set to 1.2 degree providing slightly favourable pressure gradient to ensure a laminar flow in the corner region. A round shape leading edge is used and the length of the model is about 1000mm. In the bisector plane, the measurement data show separation type velocity profiles having an inflection point which is a typical characteristic of laminar corner boundary layers. As the distance away from the bisector plane increases, velocity profiles are found to change into the Blasius profile. The change completes around half length of the boundary layer thickness in the bisector plane away from the bisector plane along the plate. In the bisector plane, the growth characteristic of the boundary layer thickness and the approximate similarity of velocity profiles are confirmed from the measurement data.
