Speed-limit Sign Recognition Using Convolutional Neural Network Based on Random Forest (랜덤 포레스트 분류기 기반의 컨벌루션 뉴럴 네트워크를 이용한 속도제한 표지판 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a robust speed-limit sign recognition system which is durable to any sign changes caused by exterior damage or color contrast due to light direction. For recognition of speed-limit sign, we apply CNN which is showing an outstanding performance in pattern recognition field. However, original CNN uses multiple hidden layers to extract features and uses fully-connected method with MLP(Multi-layer perceptron) on the result. Therefore, the major demerit of conventional CNN is to require a long time for training and testing. In this paper, we apply randomly-connected classifier instead of fully-connected classifier by combining random forest with output of 2 layers of CNN. We prove that the recognition results of CNN with random forest show best performance than recognition results of CNN with SVM (Support Vector Machine) or MLP classifier when we use eight speed-limit signs of GTSRB (German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark).

Prospects of Characteristics Factors on Serious Game through Application Case Study Analysis (응용분야 사례 분석을 통한 기능성 게임의 특성요인 전망)

  • The game market has not only grown in size of the 10 trillion won but also the form and function of game use. Serious game combines the educational purpose and the fun of the game and develops it so that contents such as national defense. In this study, we analyze the cases of five application areas for the activation of serious games, and develop factors that the serious game should have, we want to see what the characteristics are and how important it is. The results of analysis show that it was analyzed that most serious games of application field were developed as 'experiential games' such as education, learning, experience, and simulation. This means that it is very effective to develop a serious game in consideration of the characteristics that a potential user should prefer a sensible game as well as a clear goal of a serious game in game development.

  • In this study, as the role and function of university libraries have been expanded to become a base for local information services and local information service centers along with the demands of the times, this study seeks to find ways to revitalize university library services using local cultural contents. I did. As a result, first, university libraries select core cultural contents representing the region or contents related to people from the region as regional cultural contents, receive information from relevant institutions in the region, or directly It must perform social, cultural and educational functions based on culture and art. Second, when planning programs related to local cultural contents, university libraries should proceed in the form of combining local visits, learning, reading, and experiences. Third, university libraries should play a role as a repository of cultural resources and a hub of cultural resources through systematic and stable preservation of cultural resources and widespread service expansion through the establishment of a local cultural resource management system.

Development of a Teaching-Learning Model for Science Ethics Education with History of Science (과학사 활용 과학 윤리 수업 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibilities of science ethics education with history of science (HOS) and to develop its teaching and learning model for secondary school students. A total of 72 cases about science ethics were extracted from 20 or more HOS books, journal articles, and newspaper articles. These cases were categorized into 8 areas, such as forgery, fabrication, violation of bioethics in testing, plagiarism and stealth, unfair allocation of credit, over slander, conjunction with ideologies, and social responsibility problems. The results of this study are as follows. First, research forgery, occurring in the process of the research, was the most frequent in HOS. Second, we developed eight teaching lesson plans for each area. Third, we proposed a teaching and learning model based on the developed lesson plans as well as related teaching and learning models in the fields of science ethics education, ethics education, and history education. Our model has five steps, 'investigating-suggesting casesclarifying problems-finding alternatives-summarizing'.

Lung Segmentation Considering Global and Local Properties in Chest X-ray Images (흉부 X선 영상에서의 전역 및 지역 특성을 고려한 폐 영역 분할 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a new lung segmentation method for chest x-ray images which can take both global and local properties into account. Firstly, the initial lung segmentation is computed by applying the active shape model (ASM) which keeps the shape of deformable model from the pre-learned model and searches the image boundaries. At the second segmentation stage, we also applied the localizing region-based active contour model (LRACM) for correcting various regional errors in the initial segmentation. Finally, to measure the similarities, we calculated the Dice coefficient of the segmented area using each semiautomatic method with the result of the manually segmented area by a radiologist. The comparison experiments were performed using 5 lung x-ray images. In our experiment, the Dice coefficient with manually segmented area was $95.33%{\pm}0.93%$ for the proposed method. Effective segmentation methods will be essential for the development of computer-aided diagnosis systems for a more accurate early diagnosis and prognosis regarding lung cancer in chest x-ray images.

A Car License Plate Recognition Using Morphological Characteristic, Difference Operator and ART2 Algorithm (형태학적 특징 및 차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식)

  • 2006년 11월 이후 신 차량 번호판 등장 후, 신 차량 번호판과 구 차량 번호판이 혼합되어 있다. 이에 따라 속도위반, 신호위반 단속, 무인 주차관리 시스템, 범죄 및 도주 차량 검거, 고속도로 톨게이트에서 통행료 지불로 인한 교통 체증현상을 해소하기 위한 자동 요금 징수와 같은 다양한 경우에서 자동차 번호판의 특징에 맞는 인식 시스템이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 형태학적 특징 및 차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식 방법을 제안한다. 무인 카메라에서 획득된 차량 번호판 영상에서 차 연산을 이용하여 에지를 추출한 후에 블록 이진화를 한다. 이진화 된 차량 영상에서 신 구 차량 번호판의 형태학적 특성을 8방향 윤곽선 추적 알고리즘에 적용하여 잡음 영역을 제거하고, 차량의 번호판 영역을 추출한다 추출된 번호판 영역에 대하여 평균 이진화와 최대 최소 이진화를 적용하여 번호판의 개별 영역에 대한 형태학적 특성을 고려하여 잡음을 제거하고, Labeling 알고리즘을 적용하여 개별 문자를 추출한 후에 결합한다. 이렇게 분류된 개별 문자 및 숫자 코드를 ART2 알고리즘에 적용하여 학습 및 인식을 한다. 제안된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해 녹색 번호판과 흰색 번호판 이미지 각각 100장을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 제시 된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식 방법이 실험을 통해서 효율적인 것을 확인하였다.

Extracting Korean-English Parallel Sentences from Wikipedia (위키피디아로부터 한국어-영어 병렬 문장 추출)

  • This paper conducts a variety of experiments for "the extraction of Korean parallel sentences using Wikipedia data". We refer to various methods that were previously proposed for other languages. We use two approaches. The first one is to use translation probabilities that are extracted from the existing resources such as Sejong parallel corpus, and the second one is to use dictionaries such as Wiki dictionary consisting of Wikipedia titles and MRDs (machine readable dictionaries). Experimental results show that we obtained a significant improvement in system using Wikipedia data in comparison to one using only the existing resources. We finally achieve an outstanding performance, an F1-score of 57.6%. We additionally conduct experiments using a topic model. Although this experiment shows a relatively lower performance, an F1-score of 51.6%, it is expected to be worthy of further studies.

  • Recently, as its growth and popularization, the Web is changed into the place where people express, share and debate their opinions rather than the space of information seeking. Accordingly, the needs for searching opinions expressed in the Web are also increasing. However, it is difficult to meet these needs by using a classical information retrieval system that only concerns the relevance between the user's query and documents. Instead, a more advanced system that captures subjective information through documents is required. The proposed system effectively retrieves opinionated documents by utilizing an existing information retrieval system. This paper proposes a kind of hybrid method which can utilize both a dictionary-based opinion analysis technique and a machine learning based opinion analysis technique. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in improving the performance.

  • This study is the consideration to 'The Data' and 'On Divisions' of Euclid which is the historical start of analysis and synthesis. 'The Data' and 'On Divisions' compared to Euclid's Elements is not interested. In this study, analysis and synthesis were examined for significance. In this study, means for 'analysis' and 'synthesis' were examined through an analysis of 'The Data' and 'On Divisions'. First, the various terms including analysis and synthesis were examined and the concepts of the terms were analyzed. Then, analysis was divided into 'external analysis' and 'internal analysis'. And synthesis was divided into 'theoretical synthesis' and 'empirical synthesis'. On the basis of this classification problem presented in elementary textbooks and the practical applications were explored.

On sampling algorithms for imbalanced binary data: performance comparison and some caveats (불균형적인 이항 자료 분석을 위한 샘플링 알고리즘들: 성능비교 및 주의점)

  • Various imbalanced binary classification problems exist such as fraud detection in banking operations, detecting spam mail and predicting defective products. Several sampling methods such as over sampling, under sampling, SMOTE have been developed to overcome the poor prediction performance of binary classifiers when the proportion of one group is dominant. In order to overcome this problem, several sampling methods such as over-sampling, under-sampling, SMOTE have been developed. In this study, we investigate prediction performance of logistic regression, Lasso, random forest, boosting and support vector machine in combination with the sampling methods for binary imbalanced data. Four real data sets are analyzed to see if there is a substantial improvement in prediction performance. We also emphasize some precautions when the sampling methods are implemented.
