Serious Game Design for the Elderly using Arcade Game Machines (아케이드 게임기기를 활용한 실버용 기능성게임 디자인)

  • This paper deals with the elderly serious game design which makes full use of the existing arcade game machine. This serious game is on the issue for its positive role recently. Serious arcade game for the elderly which is made up arcade platform-based combined contents manufacture technology has an element which is having a fun for building up physical and mental health. It also has a special objective which can prevent against senile dementia. Above-mentioned serious arcade game which has a special objective in both hardware part and software part is needed to study how to design. Accordingly, this paper presents how to make up special-purpose entertainment machine and contents development by biologic, social, and psychological researches and data about the elderly - main users. We hope that this paper can be used as a base for expansion of new industrial field by integrating new product development for the elderly with high game technology.With the help of information technology

The Role of Social Interaction Influencing on Flow and Immersion in the Context of Online Games: The Moderating Effect of Offline Dependence (온라인 게임에서 사회적 상호작용이 충만감과 중독에 미치는 영향: 오프라인 의존성의 조절효과)

  • Online games are not only tools for enjoyment, they are also the linking pins connecting between the online and the offline worlds. The effects affecting other domains can be termed 'spillover'. With the process behaving as forward and reverse spillovers, there are interaction effects on online and offline behavior. However, there is little research dealing with the spillover effects from the offline to the online domain. This study concentrates on the individual behavior of online garners centering on offline dependence. With the purpose of finding the factors affecting both flow and immersion, I am interested in the moderator effect of offline dependence influencing both flow and immersion from social interaction. A research model is developed and a survey research is conducted from one of universities in Korea. The results show that flow is strongly influenced by skills, challenge, and social interaction, but immersion is only influenced by skills and social interaction and not challenge. The findings reveal that the moderating effect of offline dependence affects only the relationship from social interaction to the immersion on the lower offline dependence group.

  • As today's "ninth art", role-playing games recognized by most players due to their surreal themes and sustained reflection on social diseases. Through precise control of story-telling and game visuals, players develop an avatar identification during role-playing game. Based on Lacan's mirror stage theory, a new self-identity mechanism is established under the guidance of role-playing games. As a "player", the subject's interpretation of himself is shifted by the game order, and the subject identifies with the role-playing game while at the same time being structured by the desire of role-playing game. The immersive experience and emotional guidance of role-playing games all point to the most instinctive human desires. The psychoanalytic theory from Lacan's perspective explains the source of players' desire, and the expression of players' desire in the game. It also plays an important role in the emotional rendering and identity aspects of role-playing games. This paper is to establish that role-playing games do have an impact on the player's self-identity through a Lacanian psychoanalytic reading of role-playing games.

  • This research aims at suggesting a case of designing theme-based integrated learning for usage smart media. New approach and direction for developing a gaming instructional design was suggested which can encourage learners to participate in. Quest-based learning, the learning environment design where learners conduct various learner-centered activities, plays an important role of reinforcing the motivation, promoting experiential and cooperative learning based on social interaction. The design using QR codes has been proved to be able to offer the learner-centered learning environment which includes social interaction strategy required for learners expanding their cognitive structure, motivation enhancing strategy encouraging their consistent participation in learning, complex problematic situation and scaffolding strategy emphasized by constructivism. And it is expected to contribute to promoting the design of theme-based integrated learning which is being demanded in the educational environment recently by combining systematic design process and strategies.

  • 본 논문은 기존의 도시개발정책에서 경제적 관점에서 가치의 중심을 두었다면 4차산업혁명시대에는 서비스적 가치변환을 추구하고 있다. 시공간을 공유하는 사람 중심의 공간 서비스요, 가치의 용광로가 메타버스라고 한다면, 오징어게임과 같은 게임이론이 접목된 도시의 미래상을 고려할 필요가 있다. 4차산업 기술과 서비스가 사회로 침투되면서 도시의 공간 인프라, 동산 부동산, 객체들을 물리적공간과 가상공간에서 인공지능과 빅데이터 분석이 개입된 각종 형태와 형식의 컨텐츠가 입체적으로 생동감을 얻게 되었다. 특히, 코로나19을 맞아 메타버스기반 서비스가 대중들에게도 접근하기 시작하면서 지금까지 경험하지 못했던 메타버스 시민의 역할에 대한 필요성이 대두하게 되었다. 4차산업혁명시대의 스마트도시, 메타버스와 게임이론을 연구하였다.

The Effects of Game Properties and Gratifications on Continuance Intention of Location-Based Augmented Reality Game (게임 속성과 충족 변수가 위치 기반 증강현실 게임의 지속 사용 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Since the launch of Pokémon GO in 2016, the game has been loved for many users. Although the number of Pokémon GO users has declined, lots of users still enjoy the location-based augmented reality game. From the perspective of game properties and Use & Gratifications theory, this paper investigated the antecedents of continuance intention of Pokémon GO. A total of 258 responses from Pokémon Go users was collected by an online survey. The result of regression analysis showed that attitude toward game characters, attitude toward random game elements, social interaction, competition, and physical activity increased continuance intention. Perceived cost, however, decreased continuance intention. Implications for researchers and practitioners were discussed.

  • Serious games have many potentials to facilitate positive social change on communities and individuals. However, there have been few researches to study this issue in Korea. In this paper, therefore, we developed a persuasive game based on persuasive game design principles to provide an ordinary person with experiences of the blind so that they communicate, understand, and harmonize. We did surveys before and after 20 players played the persuasive game. We found that a persuasive game might have positive impacts on social change literacy partially.

  • The Jews has been cited as the most influential nations in the world of politics, economy, and culture in many areas. For these reasons, the study of Jewish economic life such as child-rearing, family life, and religious life is getting expanded to various areas. In this paper, we deal with the Jews's play for the various areas. Play is the best way to see the consciousness of a certain age on learning the structure and lifestyle. Therefore, the research is described to produce serious games based on by study of Jewish play using information in the internet, researched paper. Then, the investigated play's role of technology for production of functional game plans are discussed. As a result, the Jews play: 1) the history, traditions of wisdom, tools, 2) a medium for delivering educational messages, 3) the formation of community tools emotions 4) promise to play a role as a tool for learning. The development and Release of serious games based on Jews play can lead to a positive social learning effect.

  • This study explains motivation and purpose of adolescents' game use based on Adler's individual psychology. Through in-depth interviews, it was found that the game is a field to reveal their need for approval in the social community and a means of expressing the attitude toward their life. In addition, need for approval shows a difference in adaptive/maladaptive attitude according to the social interest. This means that the role of peers, parents, and society is important in order for an individual's need for approval to produce social adaptive outcomes. It is necessary to acknowledge the game as an important area of self-actualization in which an adolescent is internalizing social interest and recognizing their self and it is required to switch from an attitude of exclusion, disdain and ignorance to an attitude of openness and tolerance and adaptive intervention.

Emotional User Experiences on Narrative-Based Social Issue Serious Game : Focused on (내러티브 기반 소셜 이슈 기능성 게임의 사용자 감정 경험 연구 : <나누별 이야기>를 중심으로)

  • To affect users' attitudes on social issues, some serious games use narrative which can be an effective tool to provoke users' emotions. In this paper, focus group interview on the experiences about playing was conducted to figure out if the parts of narratives containing educational goals can actually provoke certain emotions or not. From the interview, words having emotional meaning were extracted and matched with Korean Emotion Terms Database. Then the emotion terms were compared with Russell's schematic map of core affect and were categorized. The result showed that users mostly felt unpleasant emotions during the play. The unpleasant emotions helped to achieve the game's goal which is conveying the tragedy of war.
