  • The diagnostic radiation equipment is managed in accordance with the "Rules for Safety Management of Diagnostic Radiation Equipment" enacted in 1995. The equipments should be inspected before use and every three years after use in accordance with the [Appendix 1] of the same rule. The inspection standard has been maintained without particular revision since enacted. But, over the past two decades new types of equipments have been manufactured and used. So, it is necessary to revise [Appendix 1] by making inspection items and inspection standards. In this study, we revised the classification system of equipments and reviewed international standards of IEC 60601 series, IEC 61223 series and AAPM TG 18 On-line Report No.03. And identified the problem of current inspection standards. Through this, we revised, deleted and added the inspection items and inspection standard of each equipment to meet the domestic circumstances. As a result of the study, we reorganized the classification system of equipment which are current classified as 5 classes into 22 classes as X-ray system etc. (7 classes), CT system etc. (5 classes) and Dental X-ray system etc. (10 classes). And then, we developed 70 inspection items for 6 types of equipments according to the reorganized classification system of equipments. The inspection items and inspection standards derived from this study have been proposed to the KCDC and will be applied to the revision of the Rule's [Appendix 1]. Therefore, we expect to be used as reference materials for domestic medical center, inspection institutions, and equipment manufacturing import companies.

Study on Research for Reducing Radiation Dose of Head and Neck for Cephalometric Radiography System (두부규격방사선촬영장치의 두경부 피폭 저감에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, the interest in the orthodontic treatment for children is increased by a rise in national income level. The number of cephalometric radiography that could diagnose a malocclusion and malposition between teeth and jawbone increased. It required attention to radiation exposure, because the subject of dental examination is children which are more sensitive to radiation and the head and neck, the object of that include radiation sensitive organ such as the thyroid, bone marrow, eyes, salivary gland, and so on. In this study, we measured two-dimensional dose distribution in cephalometric radiography system (VATEC Pax-400C) using Agfa CP-G Plus film and MagicMax Dosimeter, and calculated radiation organ dose of head and neck through MCNPX simulation. And then we designed a radiation protective device to decrease radiation dose. The dose distribution of the cephalometric radiography system irradiated the head and neck overall as well as the oral and maxillofacial parts. The radiation organ dose calculated that thyroid, oesophagus and eyes are irradiated high, and the radiation organ dose decreased about 70 ~ 80% by the application of the radiation protective device. The results of this study will be used construction of database for dental radiation exposure and research of reducing radiation dose.

Nondestructive Measurement of the Coating Thickness in the Simulated TRISO-Coated Fuel Particle Using Micro-Focus X-ray Radiography (마이크로포커스 X-선 투과 영상을 이용한 모의 TRISO 핵연료 입자 코팅 층 두께 비파괴 측정)

  • TRISO(tri-isotropic)-coated fuel particle technology is utilized owing to its higher stability at a high temperature and Its efficient retention capability for fission products In the HTGR(high temperature gas-reeled reactor). The typical spherical TRISO fuel panicle with a diameter of about 1mm is composed of a nuclear fuel kernel and outer coating layers. The outer coating layers consist of a buffer PyC(pyrolytic carbon) layer, Inner PyC(1-PyC) layer, SiC layer, and outer PyC(O-PyC) layer Most of the Inspection Items for the TRTSO-coated fuel particle depend on destructive methods. The coating thickness of the TRISO fuel particle can be nondestructively measured by the X-ray radiography without generating radioactive wastel. In this study, the coaling thickness for the simulated TRISO-coated fuel particle with $ZrO_2$ kernel Instead of $%UO_2$ kernel was measured by using micro-focus X-ray radiography with micro-focus X-ray generator and flat panel detector The radiographic image was also enhanced by image processing technique to acquire clear boundary lines between coating layers. The coaling thickness wat effectively measured by applying the micro-focus X-ray radiography The inspection process for the TRISO-coated fuel particles will be improved by the developed micro-focus X-ray radiography and digital image processing technology.

  • The molybdenum cup and molybdenum pin, which are the main materials of the molybdenum electrode used for the LCD BLU CCFL electrode, did not been developed in Japan and all of them are imported and used from Japan, is giving a competitive burden. In this research, to develop the manufacturing technology of molybdenum pin used for CCFL electrode of LCD BLU, development of linear processing technology, development of molybdenum wire surface treatment technology, development of wire cutting technology, production of molybdenum pin, design and fabrication of JIG and Fixture for inspection, molybdenum pin prototyping and analysis, and development of 100% molybdenum pin inspection technology. In this paper, especially, research on design and manufacturing of JIG and Fixture for molybdenum pin manufacturing and inspection is treated.

Study on Analysis and Evaluation of Performance for Evacuated Tubular Solar Collector System (진공관형 태양열 집열장치의 성능평가 및 해석 연구)

  • The thermal performance for test system with evacuated tubular solar collector is experimentally investigated to obtain the basis data for developing new type solar collector. For this purpose, the test system was designed using CATIA and then after being manufactured, the system was tested using evacuated tubular solar collector. Numerical analysis, furthermore, was performed using ANSYS Fluent V.13 for glass evacuated tubular solar collector. The results showed that as setting temperature difference(${\Delta}T$) of system was increased, total operating(working) time was almost same in all cases, even though operating count was decreased. The results of numerical analysis showed that as temperature of solar absorber in glass evacuated tubular solar collector was high, the drop-rate of temperature of center part was increased.

  • This study is the material of the additional filter(Cu, Ni, CaWO4, Gd+Ba) being used when the diagnosis X-ray was varied to evaluate the spatial dose distribution accordingly. And it suggest to find a suitable material. Experiments using MCNPX program based on the Monte Carlo simulation method was carried out by selecting the chest and abdomen taken. As a result, each material per dose, the average scatter dose is approximately 62%, 100 cm radius of the point of the simulated body surface exposure dose and 50 cm radius centered on the point average about 47%. It is determined that an Al material is currently available in accordance with the result to be replaced by Cu, Ni material is sufficient. With just the thickness due to the difference in the atomic number and density adjusted to be about one-tenth of the Al it will be suitable.

  • [ $^{169}Yb$ ] industrial NDT sealed sources were developed by using $Yb_2O_3$ pellets as the target and demonstrated for their performance. To produce the pellets, optimal compacting and sintering conditions were determined experimentally. Source holders for $^{169}Yb$ were designed and fabricated. After assembling an active source produced from HANARO with the developed source holder, a demonstration experiment was performed to compare the quality of the radiographs from $^{192}Ir$ and soft X-rays. This demonstration study showed that the developed $^{169}Yb$ produced better radiographs than $^{192}Ir$ for a carbon steel with less than a 4 mm thickness.

Thermographic Inspection of Fatigue Crack by Using Contact Thermal Resistance (접촉 열저항 효과를 이용한 피로균열의 적외선검사)

  • Fatigue crack was detected from a temperature change around surface crack using the thermographic technique. Thermal gradient across the crack decreased very much due to thermal resistance of contact surface in the crack. Heat diffusion flow passing through the discontinuity was visualized in temperature by infrared camera to find and locate the crack. A fatigue crack specimen(SM-45C), which was prepared according to KS specification and notched in its center to initiate fatigue crack from the notch tip, was heated by halogen lamp at the end of one side to generate a heat diffusion flow in lateral direction. A abrupt jump in temperature across the fatigue crack was observed in thermographic image, by which the crack could be located and sized from temperature distribution.

  • In order to inspect the existing or newly constructed ship's hull, a professional diver directly inspects the ship's bottom of the water. However, since it is a work done by people, there are many dangers such as human casualties and crashes. To solve this problem, it is necessary to develop underwater drones for ship inspection for visual inspection. The technology applied to underwater drones, the use and manufacturing process of each component, and the method of manufacture such as firmware development were described, and the difference was compared by measuring the drone's own driving ability and driving ability using crawler under water, and the location tracking device test confirmed the error from the actual location. It is estimated that the use of underwater drones produced through this research will prevent human casualties and achieve economic effects and stability.

A Study on Applicability of Coagulant Mixer and Flow Analysis of the Non-powered Vortex Mixer using CFD (전산유체역학(CFD)을 이용한 무동력 와류 혼화장치의 유동해석 및 응집제 혼화장치 적용 가능성 연구)

  • This study compared and analyzed the water treatment efficiency and the applicability of water treatment plant using the existing Mechanical Rapid-Mixer by introducing the Non-powered Vortex Mixer to the domestic water treatment plant. For this study, fluid flow characteristics and head loss of a Non-powered Vortex Mixer are calculated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)respectively. The head loss rate inside the mixer was 11.30% when the inflow velocity was 0.5 m/sec, 16.27% at 0.6 m/sec and 21.44% at 0.7 m/sec, the head loss rapidly increased at the optimal velocity of 0.5 m/sec. For the inflow velocity of 0.5 m/sec, the turbulent intensity at the inlet was 2.37% and at the outlet was 7.83%, so there was sufficient mixing strength for the particulate matter and the coagulant. The result of the water quality of the treatment plants with the inflow velocity of 0.38 m/sec that was operated in three years after replacing all 12 units of the existing Rapid-Mixer with the Non-powered Mixer met the standards. Hence, it is possible to reduce the energy consumption of 64,143 ~ 65,306 kWh/year since the Rapid-Mixer is replaced by the Non-powered Vortex Mixer.
