Coting Structure (도공층의 구조)

  • 도공층의 표면과 내부의 공극구조는 도공지에서 중요한 광학적 성질과 인쇄적성에 밀접한 관계가 있다. 이러한 공극은 도공액이 건조됨에 따라 자연적으로 형성되고 공극의 크기와 용적은 도공액의 조성, 원지의 사이즈도, 건조 속도 및 칼렌더 처리 조건 등에 의해 영향을 받는다. 공극구조는 원지의 흡수에 의해 카드 하우스(card house)형 태의 케이크(cake)층의 형성과 바인더 이동(binder migration) 때문에 생성되는 시점에서 이미 두께방향에서 불균일하게 된다. 도공층 표면의 평활도와 백지광택을 향상시키기 위하여 칼렌더 처리를 행하는데 이 때 도공층 표층의 큰 공극이 압축되어 치밀화현상이 일어나, 공극구조는 한층 더 불균일하게 된다.

  • A wooden Comb excavated at Shinchang-dong wetland site was treated with cetylalcohol as a reinforcing agent. The conservation process was done by freeze drying the wooden artifact after substituting it with no.3 butyl alcohol and impregnating with 40wt% cetylalcohol solution. Consequently there was no noticeable surface damage. Also it showed 54% of remaining weight and a shrinkage of length 3.3%, width 2.1% and thickness 3.1%. Therefore using cetylalcohol for conservation of waterlogged archeological wood was effective dimensional stability and remaining weight.

Effects of Soil Amendments on Survival Rate and Growth of Populus sibirica and Ulmus pumila Seedlings in a Semi-arid Region, Mongolia (몽골 반건조 지역에서 토양 개량이 백양나무와 비술나무 묘목의 활착 및 생장에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of soil amendments on survival rate and growth of seedlings in a semi-arid region, Mongolia. 2-year-old Populus sibirica and Ulmus pumila seedlings were planted in alkaline sandy soils and treated with 2 levels of nitrogen, elemental sulfur, artificial moisture retention and converted loess. After 4 months, the seedling survival rate of both species decreased as the amount of nitrogen increased. Nitrogen has been generally known to increase seedling survival rate and growth by supplying nutrients, however, reduced survival rate in this study might be affected by consequential increase in soil osmotic pressure, which was caused by excessive nitrogen fertilization. The root collar diameter (RCD) growth of both species increased significantly by the treatment of converted loess, and only RCD growth of P. sibirica increased by the artificial moisture retention treatment. Although P. sibirica is drought-tolerant, it is in the group of Populus spp. which requires a high capacity of available water. Conversely, the elemental sulfur treatment showed no effect on survival rate and RCD growth for both species due to the low oxidation of sulfur in arid soils. The extended monitoring of seedling growth and soil characteristics is required to elucidate the long-term effects of soil amendments in the semi-arid region, and the further studies are also needed to examine the appropriate amount of fertilizers for both species.

Isolation and Functional Identification of BrDSR, a New Gene Related to Drought Tolerance Derived from Brassica rapa (배추 유래 신규 건조 저항성 관련 유전자, BrDSR의 분리 및 기능 검정)

  • Drought stress is a crucial environmental factor determining crop survival and productivity. The goal of this study was to clearly identify a new drought stress-tolerance gene in Brassica rapa. From KBGP-24K microarray data with the B. rapa ssp. pekinensis inbred line 'Chiifu' under drought stress treatment, a gene which was named BrDSR (B. rapa Drought Stress Resistance) was chosen among 738 drought-responsive unigenes. BrDSR function has yet to be determined, but its expression was induced over 6-fold by drought. To characterize BrDSR, the gene was isolated from B. rapa inbred line 'CT001' and found to contain a 438-bp open reading frame encoding a 145 amino acid protein. The full-length cDNA of BrDSR was used to construct an over-expression vector, 'pSL100'. Tobacco transformation was then conducted to analyze whether the BrDSR gene can increase drought tolerance in plants. The BrDSR expression level in T1 transgenic tobacco plants selected via PCR and DNA blot analyses was up to 2.6-fold higher than non-transgenic tobacco. Analysis of phenotype clearly showed that BrDSR-expressing tobacco plants exhibited more tolerance than wild type under 10 d drought stress. Taking all of these findings together, we expect that BrDSR functions effectively in plant growth and survival of drought stress conditions.

Chemical Components of Hololeion maximowiczii Root and Change by Drying Methods (께묵뿌리의 화학성분과 건조방법에 따른 변화)

  • Hololeion maximowiczii root was analyzed for proximate composition, free sugar, fatty acids of crude lipid, amino acids and minerals after freeze dried (FD), hot air dried (HAD) and hot air dried after blanched (HADB), respectively. Proximate composition was little different among drying methods. Free sugar was abundant in order of sucrose $(28{\sim}29mg/g\;dw)$, fructose $(0.8{\sim}3mg/g\;dw)$, glucose and xylose (trace). Fructose was decreased in HADB. In fatty acid composition of crude lipids, linoleic acid was highest $(55{\sim}59%)$ and then palmitic and linolenic acid in abundance. These three fatty acids made $88{\sim}90%$ of total lipid, Low molecular fatty acids showed decreasing tendancy in HAD and HADB. Amino acid composition of hydrolyzed sample showed abundancy in order of arginine $(34{\sim}42mg/g)$, lysine, glutamic acid, glycine, aspartic acid, valine and histidine, while that of free amino acids was arginine, histidine, lysine, aspartic acid, serine, glutamic acid, isoleucine. Glycine and glutamic acid in hydrolyzed sample showed slight decreasing tendency in HADB. Mineral content was abundance in order of Ca $(1927{\sim}2379\;ppm),\;K\;(1159{\sim}1259ppm)$ and $Mg(760{\sim}777\;ppm)$. No difference was found in drying methods.

Effect of Air Circulation Velocity on the Rate of Lumber Drying in a Small Compartment Wood Drying Kiln (소형 목재인공건조실에 있어서 공기순환속도가 목재건조율에 미치는 영향)

This study indicates that above the fiber saturation point the drying rate can be increased with increasing the velocity of the air circutation, i.e., the drying rate of sample boards is proportional to the air velocity, but below the fiber saturation point, the effect of the velocity of air circulation is very low as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. 2. Under the controlled temperature and humidity in the kiln, the more the sample boards have moisture, the higher drying rate of it can be obtained. In other words, this means that even though in the case of drying various moisture content of wood, at the final drying stage, approximately the same percentage of moisture content of wood can be secured by employing the higher velocity of air circulation. 3. This study shows that the rate of drying in kiln changes distinctly at the fiber saturation point, i, e., above the fiber saturation point, the drying curve shows concave aginst the X axsis, but below the fiber saturation point, in the range from 30 percent of moisture content to 20 percent of moisture content, the curve shows convex as shown in Fig. 3. As the drying progresses, however, the drying curve shows concave again below 20 percent of moisture content. This means that inflection point of drying curve may be located clearly at the fiber saturation point, i.e., 30 percent of moisture content. As mentioned above, the 30 percent of moisture content of wood at which the inflectional point appears can be recognized as a critical point, i. e., the fiber saturation point at which all free water was removed from wood. The existence of inflectional point indicates that the evaporation of hygroscopic water in a cell wall is more difficult than the evaporation of free water in a cell cavity and the minor space of cell wall. The convex curve in the range of moisture content from 30 percent to 20 percent means that the evaporation of capillary condensed water has a tendency of the same rates of drying approximately, but as approaching to the 20 percent of moisture, the transfusion of moisture from wood becomes difficult because of having less moisture in cell wall. Below 20 percent of moisture content, the drying curve shows concave again, which means that it is difficult to remove the moisture located nearer to the surface of cellulose molecules and the surface bound water. These relations were revealed in Fig. 4. In comparison AC curve which does not have the two inflection points with BD curve which has two inflection points, i.e., Band D, they are mentioned already, by existence of the inflection points, the curve BD shows that the change of drying rate in the interval from 20 percent of moisture content to 30 percent of moisture content is not greater than in the case of the curve AC in the same interval. At the inflection point of 30 percent of moisture content, it can be noticed that the changing of the drying rate is very conspicuous. This phenomenon also can be recognized, as it is noticed by the Fig. 3, the drying rate from green to 30 percent of moisture content is very great. But the inclination of the curve is very slow from 30 percent of moisture content to 20 percent of moisture content, i.e., the inclination of the curve becomes almost horizontal lines. Study of the Fire Risk Caused by the Use of a Bimetal type Thermometer in the Drying Equipment (바이메탈식 온도센서를 적용한 건조설비에서의 화재 위험성 연구)

  • In this paper, the fire risk using a bimetal type thermometer for construction installation is presented. Because construction equipment is used widely in the field and the site is exposed to explosions and fire by combustible gas or fume, strong restrictions on the structure and usage are applied. Moreover, the risk of fire increases as precise temperature measurements are poorly conducted via an inner temperature sensor inside construction furnace. Therefore, this paper presents the results of structural analysis of a bimetal temperature sensor which is used widely in construction installation and temperature measurement experiments relative to the material property of the target object. The results revealed the relatively precise temperature of the liquid object, whereas those of the gas and solid object showed a lower temperature compared to the real temperature. This shows that bimetal-type temperature sensor is more suitable for measuring a liquid state object than measuring a gas or solid state object.

The influence of moisture control on bond strength of composite resin treated with self-etching adhesive system (Self-etching adhesive system에서 수분 조절이 레진의 치질접착강도에 미치는 영향)

  • 최근에 많이 사용되어지고 있는 치과용 접착제는 산 부식 후 수분이 있는 상태에서 적용하는 wet-bonding 술식을 많이 추천하고 있다. 하지만 self-etching primer의 경우 산부식과 priming 과정이 동시에 시행되고, 제조자들은 건조된 치아표면에 적용할 것을 추천하고 있다. 그러나 건조된 정도에 대하여서는 별다른 추천사항이 없으며. 수분이 self-etching primer에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대하여서는 별다른 연구가 이루어져 있지 않은 상태이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 치질 삭제 후 남아있는 수분이 self-etching primer의 레진 접착 강도에 어떤 영향을 미치는 지를 알아보고자 하였다. 발거한 대구치 96개를 이용하여 물기가 있는 상태에서 #600 사포로 표면을 연마하고, 법랑질 면을 노출시킨 군과 상아질을 노출시킨 군으로 분류 후, 30분 공기 중 방치 군 (1군), 5초 공기 건조 군 (2군), 1초 공기 건조 군 (3군), 솜으로 약간의 물기를 제거한 군(blot dry) (4군) 등 총 8개의 군으로 나누었다. Self-etching adhesive system인 Clearfil SE Bond primer를 20초간 적용하고, bonding제 도포 후 10초간 광중합 시행하였다. 접착제 처리한 치아면에 몰드를 고정한 후 Clearfil AP-X 복합레진을 2mm 충전하고, 40초간 광중합을 시행하였다. 24시간 후 전단 응력 결합강도를 측정하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다. 법랑질과 상아질 모두에서, 30분 건조군과 5초 공기건조군이 1초와 blot drying 군보다 높은 결합강도를 보였으며 통계학적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<0.05). 본 실험 결과에 의하면 self-etching adhesive system을 사용함에 있어서 법랑질과 상아질군 공히 건조된 상태에서 사용하여야 하며 수분의 존재시 치아와의 결합력이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 임상에서 접착제의 적용시 수분의 조절에 주의하여야 할 것으로 사료된다.

A numerical study on the performance of a heat pump assisted dryer (열펌프 건조기의 성능에 관한 수치해석)

  • This study carried out a numerical analysis on a heat pump assisted dryer using HFC134a. Under the constant degree of superheat and that of subcooling, we analyzed the performance of heat pump assisted dryer with varying an air mass velocity, bypass air ratio, compressor speed and an inlet bulb temperature of dryer. Simulation results were compared with experimental results, so they were maximally agreed in the range of 10%. There was the proper bypass air ratio with varying an air mass velocity. As for the effect of SMER having the inlet temperature $35^{\circ}C$ and compressor speed 1360rpm, bypass air ratio was 30% at the front velocity 0.5kg/s, 40% at the front velocity 0.7kg/s and 50% at the front velocity 0.9kg/s and 1.1kg/s. As the compressor speed was increased, SMER decreased and COP increased. As the inlet bulb temperature was increased, SMER and COP decreased.
