This study was aimed to develope appropriate soil media for the growth of Rhododendron hybrid $J_{ASANHONG}$ on the artificial ground five types of soil media was tested such as "sandy loam-general soil (T1)", "vermiculite-artificial soil (T5)", "sandy loam 50% + vermiculite 30% + sand 20% (improved of soil 2-T2)", "sandy loam 50% + carbonized rice hust 30% + sand 20% (improved of soil 3-T3)", "sandy loam 50% + humus sawdust 30% + sand 20% (improved of soil 4-T4)". The result of the research are as follows. 1. Among the type of soil media, the sandy loam(T1) soil type gave the worst effects on growth of above ground parts(height, No. of leaf, width of leaf, No. of flowering, dry weight of upper parts) and under ground parts(dry weight of roots). 2. Vermiculite(T5) showed the highest root growth(dry weight of roots). it seemed to be caused high saturated hydraulic conductivity and porosity. As a result, there is much available space for enabling the root spreads. 3. "sandy loam 50% + vermiculite 30% + sand 20%(improved of soil 2-T2)", "sandy loam 50% + carbonized rice hust 30% + sand 20%(improved of soil 3-T3)" showed good effects on growth of above ground parts and under ground parts compared with sandy 10am(T1) 4. "sandy loam 50% + humus sawdust 30% + sand 20% + (improved of soil 4-T4)" showed the highest effects on growth of above ground parts.
The purpose of this study is to develop urban planning for mitigating thermal comfort by analyzing the relationship between various physical environmental factors and radiation fluxes focused on urban areas of Changwon city, Gyeongsangnam-do. Physical environmental factors were analyzed by sky view factor (SVF), land cover and land use types using GIS program. Radiation fluxes were measured upward and downward in solar and terrestrial radiation by mobile measurement during 3 days (2 daytime and 1 nighttime) in summer season. SVF is high in urban park less around buildings. High dense building sites were low. Downward solar radiation fluxes were the highest about $700W/m^2$ at daytime, and decreased in spatial type arranged dense buildings. Upward solar and terrestrial radiations was affected by land cover types that have thermal features such as reflectivity, emissivity, and heat capacity. Therefore, urban space needs appropriate planning with building arrangement, green walls and land cover replacement for mitigating thermal comfort in urban area.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impacts of three-dimensional land cover on changing urban air temperatures and to explore some strategies of urban landscaping towards mitigation of heat build-up. This study located study spaces within a diameter of 300m around 24 Automatic Weather Stations(AWS) in Seoul, and collected data of diverse variables which could affect summer energy budgets and air temperatures. The study also selected reflecting study objectives 6 smaller-scale spaces with a diameter of 30m in Chuncheon, and measured summer air temperatures and three-dimensional land cover to compare their relationships with results from Seoul's AWS. Linear regression models derived from data of Seoul's AWS revealed that vegetation volume, greenspace area, building volume, building area, population density, and pavement area contributed to a statistically significant change in summer air temperatures. Of these variables, vegetation and building volume indicated the highest accountability for total variability of changes in the air temperatures. Multiple regression models derived from combinations of the significant variables also showed that both vegetation and building volume generated a model with the best fitness. Based on this multiple regression model, a 10% increase of vegetation volume decreased the air temperatures by approximately 0.14%, while a 10% increase of building volume raised them by 0.26%. Relationships between Chuncheon's summer air temperatures and land cover distribution for the smaller-scale spaces also disclosed that the air temperatures were negatively correlated to vegetation volume and greenspace area, while they were positively correlated to hardscape area. Similarly to the case of Seoul's AWS, the air temperatures for the smaller-scale spaces decreased by 0.32% ($0.08^{\circ}C$) as vegetation volume increased by 10%, based on the most appropriate linear model. Thus, urban landscaping for the reduction of summer air temperatures requires strategies to improve vegetation volume and simultaneously to decrease building volume. For Seoul's AWS, the impact of building volume on changing the air temperatures was about 2 times greater than that of vegetation volume. Wall and rooftop greening for shading and evapotranspiration is suggested to control atmospheric heating by three-dimensional building surfaces, enlarging vegetation volume through multilayered plantings on soil surfaces.

The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure. When the artificial soil ground is planted, the technical factors to be considered will be the load for buildings and the growth of plants. There are no current studies of the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure and this study will analyze the load effects of artificial soil ground, which mixes both pearlite and natural soil on structures. The load affecting the structures due to artificial soil ground will be maximized when the artificial soil ground becomes saturated, and which would occur when the rainfall intensity exceeds the infiltration capacity of the artificial soil ground. In order to determine whether the artificial soil ground has reached saturation or not, a 10 years frequency and 10 minutes rainfall intensity which is used for in urban drain design, is utilized. The hydraulic conductivity of artificial soil and mixed soil has been changed depending on the proportion of the mix, It has a range of fluctuation in the degree of hardening, in particular, but does not exceed the 10 minutes rainfall intensity over 10 years frequency in the most cases. Therefore, it would be efficient to apply the saturated unit weight of artificial soil ground as the design load of a structure.

The purpose of this paper is to promote the usage of facade greenery in order to improve the quality of life in cities and to improve their ecological worth. It is necessary to find out what people think about facade greenery, what problems they think, they might encounter and to promote the use of facade greenery. The survey was grouped according to three housing types; family house, tenement house and apartment. We distributed questionnaires individually to 140 people in each of the three housing types. All 420 people answered. The major questions in the questionnaire relate to the following issues: opinions about facade greenery, opinions regarding reasons to install facade greenery and expected problems, favourite plants, and to provide an analysis of the current usage of facade greenery. The results of this study show that most people like facade greenery and revealed that there was a significant difference in the kinds of responses from the three types of housing. The most important factor to affect respondents' positive preference for facade greenery is that it provides opportunities to experience nature near the housing and the improvement of the aesthetic appeal of facades for those living in apartment housing. Negative responses were based on the inhabitation of insects, and the difficulties in maintaining facade greenery. The favourite plants are parthenocissus and climbing rose. Generally people were lacking in an understanding of the ecological value of facade greenery. Most of the respondents indicated a liking for facade greenery and so the situation is now suitable to promote it.
Energy performance of building envelope components, including external walls, floors, roofs, windows and doors, is crutial for determining how much energy is required for heating and cooling in a building. Among various building technologies, a green roof system can be a good option for reducing heat gain and loss in new buildings as well as existing buildings for green remodeling. This paper evaluates the performance of green roof systems according to soil depth and Leaf Area Index (LAI) for existing buildings. It also attempts to quantify the energy saving effects on new and existing buildings with different insulation levels. Thermal performance of green roofs is mainly dependent on soil thickness and LAI. Installation of green roofs in deteriorated existing buildings can lead to improvements in roof insulation, due to the soil layer. An increase in soil depth leads to a decrease in heating load, regardless of conditions of vegetation on the green roof. Larger LAI values may reduce cooling loads in the cooling season. Installation of green roof in deteriorated existing buildings showed bigger energy saving effect in comparison to a case in new buildings. A simulation study showed that the installation of green roof systems in deteriorated existing buildings with low insulation levels, due to low thermal performance requirements when constructed, could improve the energy performance of the buildings similar or better to the peformance on new buildings with the most updated insulation standard. Thus, when remodeling a deteriorated building, green roofs could be a good option to meet the most recent energy requirements.
In this article, I would like to analyze the conditions in applying the LCC method for each construction type by selecting 10 apartment complexes among the Turn-key projects which have been ongoing for the last 5 years. In addition, this article will identify the problems to the application of double landscape architecture and suggest improvement measures. Among the 10 case targets, a total of 151 LCC analyses were conducted, and the average application ratio placing for each construction type was shown in the following order: architecture (34.4%)> electricity (21.2%)>machine (18.5%)>civil engineering (13.2%)>landscape architecture (12.6%). As numbers show, landscape architecture was the lowest. The ratio of LCC reduction amount was shown in the following order: machine (32.1%)> architecture (23.9%)>electricity (23.4%)>civil engineering (17.5%)>landscape architecture (3.1%). The field of landscape architecture had a reduction amount that was about 5 to 6 times lower than civil engineering which had a similar number of LCC analysis cases. The total LCC analysis items of landscape architecture was 19, including 15 double packing material, 1 building covering, 1 grass planting, 1 planting infrastructure, and 1 facility. The following measures were suggested to promote LCC analysis in landscape architecture: first, set an analysis item that considers the construction expense ratio of landscape architecture; second, legal regulation of landscape architecture and expansion of its application; third, prepare VE/LCC standards which are suitable for landscape architecture.
The objectives of this research were to investigate the drought resistance as well as the growth of Wisteria floribunda seedlings with the soil water conditions. The seedlings for the research were grown in pots with strict water content control on a frame located outdoors. During the experiments, the soil water contents were adjusted to 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70%. In addition, the effects of Rhizobium inoculation on the growth of seedlings were investigated. The experimental results are summarized as follows: 1. The seedlings in the pots with 5% soil water content withered to death due to the water stress. Withering or any distinct growth was not observed from the seedlings in the 10% soil water content. It can be inferred from these results that about 5% of soil water content is the wilting point of W. floribunda seedlings and about 10% is the critical soil water content of its growth in this experiment soils. Therefore, it seems that W. floribunda possesses a good drought resistance. 2. From the analyses of the main growth parameters such as stem elongation, diameter growth, leaf area growth and total dry weight, it was found that the seedling growth can be improved with increasing soil water contents. The relation between each growth parameter(Y) and the soil water contents(W) was well described by a quadratic equation, $Y=a+bW+cW^2$. 3. In soil water contents higher than 20%, the seedling growth(Y) was remarkable along with-its extended growing period, and related to the growing period(D) by a quadratic equation, $Y=a+bD+cD^2$. 4. The artificial inoculation of Rhizobiun promoted the growth of Wisteria floribunda seedlings. 5. Rhizobium was found to be more readily inoculated and to form more root nodules compared to seedlings grown in higher soil water contents.

This study has analyzed the vegetation composition in the areas using different slope revetment techniques of riverbanks, in a way to improve the vegetation induction in the future considering the ecological aspects of the induction in Garaeyoul Village, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The result of the vegetation distribution in each different slope revetment technique was analyzed, that the naturalized herb was dominant in the pole block accounting for 70.7%, while native herb was dominant in the lawn block occupying 48.5% and in the crib block occupying 55.7%. The vegetation coverage measured by different slope revetment techniques was highest in the crib block(average 97.5%), followed by the lawn block(average 95.3%) and pole block(average 27.9%). The vegetation base area was the most wide in the crib block and the most narrowest in the pole block. The result of community analysis in areas using different slope revetment techniques, dry herbs and vine herbs were dominated and the coverage was very poor in the pole block. In the lawn block, the barb was fragmented into narrow areas due to the blocks, which prevented the creation of large-scale plant communities. In the crib block, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Fescue arundinacea and Aster pilosus, which also consisted of large-scale communities. Average dry weight was also measured by each slope revetment technique. The weight was heaviest in the crib block with $187.63g/m^2$, followed by the lawn block($137.65g/m^2$) and pole block($6.75g/m^2$). The soil moisture contents in the crib block and lawn block was 16.3% and 15.2%, respectively, while that of the pole block was 4.7%, which revealed the highly dry condition of the pole block soil. The analysis result of soil chemical property showed that there was little difference in soil texture, soile acidity(pH), and exchangeable ion content, however, the soil organic matter(OM) content and available $P_2O_5$ were highest in the pole block. In the future, in order to induce more vegetation into river banks and walls, a proper construction method should be applied so that the vegetation area can be expanded as much as possible, considering the safety of the banks.
