  • This study aimed to analyze effects of non-regular employment rate and female employment rate on fertility rate in OECD county. We adopted dynamic panel model after classifying OECD county to high and low fertility rate. The results of analysis showed that the higher non regular employment rate, the lower female employment rate, and the lower economy growth rate decrease fertility rate especially in low fertility rate country. While, only the higher house rental decrease in high fertility country. This results indicate that low fertility country including Korea should improve a labor policy such as strengthening employment security and encouraging female employment to increase fertility rate.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the factors affecting the wage of the vocational high school graduates. We particularly examine the effectiveness of controlling sample selection bias by employing the Tobit model and Heckman sample selection model. The major results are as follows. First it is shown that the Tobit model and Heckman sample selection model controlling sample selection bias is statistically significant. Hence all the independent variables seem to be statistically consistent with the theoretical model. Second, gender was statistically significant, both in the probability of employment and the wage. Third, the employment probability and wage of Maester high school graduates were shown to be high compared to all other graduates. Fourth, the higher parent's income, the higher are both the employment probability and the wage. Finally, parents education level, high school grade, satisfaction, and a number of licenses were found to be statistically significant, both in the probability of employment and wages.

  • The principle objective of this study is to determine factors affecting social participation for physically disabled people with musculoskeletal conditions (spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, osteogenesis imperfecta, rheumatoid arthritis) in South Korea using ICF relevant categories of the international classification index by WHO. The subjects of this study 352 people with physical disabilities, the data were collected using ICF component(body functions, body structures, activities and participation and environmental factors) and the relevant categories deprived from ICF core sets. The collected data were evaluated with descriptive analysis, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follow. The mental function, Neuromusculoskeletal and movement-related functions, Genitourinary and reproductive functions, Skin and related structures, Learning and applying knowledge, General tasks and demands, and Mobility positively influenced social participation in people with musculoskeletal conditions. However individual factors and environmental factors didn't statistically significant affect on social participation. The implications of the study is to examine by ICF components of universal approach on disability study and utilized the relevant ICF categories as measurement tools.

  • This study analyzes the changes in commuter's mode choice between 2002 and 2006 according to the implement of the integrated public transit system in Seoul metropolitan city. Especially this study focuses on differential changes in a transit modal choice among socioeconomic status, trip purpose and spatial characteristics of origin and destination. The probability of public transit use against automobile is modeled as a function of socioeconomic variables, spatial characteristics of origin and destination and the utility of the commuter's mode. The results from conditional logit model analyses suggest that people with lower income show the larger changes in the ratio of public transit choice between 2002-06. Also both higher density, more accessible to public transit and more diverse land uses in residence zone and in work place generally increase the ratio of public transit choice between 2002-06. Car and subway have the most strong alternative relation in commuter's mode choice. The findings give an important implication that the integrated public transit system has differential impacts on commuter's mode choice in Seoul.

  • This paper explores the extent to which property scale, in particular housing price is useful as the measure of an individual's economic status. Its main object is to compare the distributions of the measure of housing wealth and other objective or subject measures, i,e., reported income and subjective class identification. Additionally, their relations to other variables are examined. An analysis of distributions and cross-tables based upon national survey of 2005 family and the database of apartment price of Kookmin Bank are used. It is shown that the measure of housing wealth differs from other economic status measures in terms of distribution and the relations to other variables, such as attitude variables and consumption-related variables. Its results also suggest that the measure of housing wealth can be applied to various areas as a new measure of an individual's objective economic status, in such a way to improve applicability of social survey.

  • Although linkages between poverty and disability are often noted, until recently they have not been systematically examined in Korea. Many people with disabilities tend to become poorer because they lack access to jobs. And income support programs are not sufficient. But more severe is people with disabilities in labor market tend to be poor. The purposes of this study were to explore the characteristics of working poor with disabilities and to identify the major determinants of poverty. For this, '2005 Survey on the Workers With Disabilities' was used. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, logistic regression. The results showed that gender, age, education level, marital status, region where they live, the number of the household member, the severity of disability, the onset of disability are significant predictors in determining their poverty status. Also employment status, occupation type, industry type, numbers of years in current job are major determinants of their poverty status. Finally, based on these results several policy implications were presented.

  • Main purpose of this study is to analyze determinants of household debt among middle and old individuals aged between 32 and 76 that include Korean baby-boomers(born between 1955 and 1963), using a HAPC (Hierarchical Age-Period-Cohort) model and Korean Welfare Panel Study 2006-2016. This study includes 86,056 individuals. Research findings indicate that aging and period effects have statistically significant relationships with household debt levels, however, cohort effects including a baby-boomer generation do not. While household debt increases by 3,530,000 Korean won as age increases by one year, the rate of increase in household debt reduces as individual ages. In addition, employment and health status at the individual level have significant effects on household debt levels. The unemployed are more likely than the employed to have high household debt levels while unhealthy people tend than healthy people to have high household debt levels.

  • The demands for (a) individual vehicle has been gradually increasing recently due to increase of personal income and spare time. In 2009, the quantities of registered vehicles exceeds over 17,325,210 millions pieces, and the risks of traffic accidents and traffic jam are increasing days by days. It has some limitations to solve the problem of traffic jam by transportation facilities and causes lots of time and costs. For a possible solution, ITS(Intelligent Transport System) has been introduced, but it is an insufficient way for abrupt incidents or risks on roads. The riskiest matter on driving a vehicle is unforeseen situation. In this paper, the most efficient and economical system that communicates with a driver about unexpected accident by sensor network and GPS information, is introduced rather than a traditional method associated with lots of time and costs.

  • This study explored whether there are differences in the lives of the poor when they reside in areas with different socioeconomic conditions. Especially the poor living in areas with high poverty are the main focus here, so this study demonstrated their levels of neighborship and mental health. In order to analyze it, 2012 Korean General Society Survey(94 areas, 1,396 individuals) was used and the interaction effect between area poverty and individual poverty was found. As a result, the poor living in deprived areas reported higher social ties with neighbors than the poor living in wealthy areas. Furthermore, double poverty status also increased their psychological well-being level so that it suggested the poor community could be the supportive base for the poor in terms of mental health as well. The meanings of relationships the poor have in poor areas were discussed, and the implications were followed.

  • This study aimed to find health related lifestyle factors that influence glycemic control for diabetes mellitus (DM) management strategies. This study used nested case-control design with matching variables that were not controlled by individuals such as age, sex, insulin or oral hypoglycemic agent (OHA) use, disease duration, education level and household income. This study analyzed 983 subjects with type 2 DM who enrolled in the $7^{th}$ (2016-2017) Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The target HbA1c level of controlled glucose was defined as less than 6.5%, and 289 (30%) were achieved. Conditional multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to find self-control factors associated with HbA1c levels. The results statistically significant for variables such as duration of diabetes, insulin or OHA use in overall cohort and body mass index (BMI), smoking and fundus Examination in matched cohort. These results are expected to provide as evidence for the intensive care criteria(disease duration, drug use) and lifestyle management strategy(BMI, smoking, fundus examination).
