A stepped beam with immovable ends under the free and forced vibrations with large amplitude is investigated by using the finite element method to show the effects of longitudinal displacement, shear deformation and rotary inertia. A modified harmonic force matrix is introduced for analysis of finite amplitude vibration of the stepped beam under uniform harmonic loading and a beam under nonuniform harmonic loading. Numerical examples are analysed for deflections and natural frequencies of stepped beam under various support conditions. Results show that the proposed method is valid and efficient.

This paper presents results of vibration analysis of a end-winding of large generator for fossil power plant. A finite element analysis using a commercial S/W is performed to calculate alternating electromagnetic forces, mainly of 120㎐ in 60㎐ machines, acting on the end-winding, and then to calculate forced response of the end-winding under electromagnetic forces. Also, this paper presents analytical and experimental modal analysis results of generator end-winding to validate FE model. We calculated forced response of end-winding on 120㎐, double rotating frequency. These results will be used to evaluate structural reliability of end-winding and applied to update model.

While designing shafting in reciprocating machines with internal combustion engines which derive generators, pumps, and vehicles, it is very important to calculate the additional stress of shafting by torsional vibration. In this paper, the transfer stiffness coefficient method which is based on the successive transfer of stiffness coefficient was applied to the calculation of the additional stress of shafting in reciprocating machine by torsional vibration. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the present method, a propulsion shafting with a diesel engine in a vessel was considered as the computational example of shafting in reciprocating machine. The results calculated by the present method were compared with those of the modal analysis method, the mechanical impedance method, and free vibration analysis.
The response characteristics of the forced vibration generated when the high-damped vehicle pass the bumped barrier was studied, and in particular, the response behavior of displacement, velocity and acceleration was analyzed for the forced vibration model. In addition, in order to obtain responses such as displacement, velocity, and acceleration, a numerical analysis technique of the Runge-Kutta-Gill method was performed in time domain. The response was successfully obtained in detail under several high damping conditions. As a numerical analysis result, the response of the vehicle was obtained by considering the vehicle body to which the impulse impact was applied. Also, the analysis result was compared with the experimental result in order to verify the validity of vehicle model. The amplitude and natural frequency of the vehicle were considered and analyzed. The Nyquist diagram of the vehicle model was also obtained and the relationship could be analyzed. And the vibration response was analyzed on different mass, damping and stiffness.

In this paper, the forced vibration of damped composite beam with arbitrary section was analyzed. The damping material was assumed to have either complex shear modulus or complex Young???smodulus. Damped composite beam could be modeled using beam elements with less D.O.F. rather than solid elements. Finite element method for these methods was formulated and programmed using complex values. The results of frequency responses revealed good agreement with those of NASTRAN in several beam structures.

Impeller blades in the centrifugal compressor are subjected to static loads due to the high-speed rotation and steady aerodynamic forces. At the same time, aerodynamic excitations by the interaction between the impeller and the diffuser vanes(DV) periodically excite the impeller blades in resonant conditions, which may lead to high cycle fatigue (HCF) and eventually result in failure of the blades. In order to predict the structural response accurately, the aerodynamic excitation and the major resonant conditions were predicted by performing the unsteady flow analysis and modal analysis using ANSYS. Next, a unidirectional forced vibration analysis was performed by using fluid-structure interaction (FSI) method, and the safety of HCF was evaluated based on the results.

This paper presents results of vibration analysis of a generator-stator core for 500 MW fossil power plant. A finite element analysis using a commercial S/W is performed to estimate alternating electromagnetic forces, mainly of 120 Hz in 60 Hz machines, acting on the core, and then to calculate forced response of the core. Results are compared with design requirements.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency characteristics of forced vibration considering the vehicle progress. And the vibration characteristics in frequency domain that occur, when vehicle passes the bump, were analyzed. The responses such as displacement, velocity and acceleration were obtained through numerical analysis, and FFT processing was performed to analyze the frequency response function(FRF) characteristics. In particular, the location of vehicle eigenmodes and external excitation modes was clearly shown and analyzed. In the forced vibration model by external force, the behavior of the eigenmode in power spectrum and real and imaginary parts were also analyzed. The mode characteristics were also analyzed in each FRF. It was approximated by assuming total excitation force by considering the exciting frequency using impulse and sine wave forces, which can give the amplitude and frequencies. The response characteristics of forced oscillations having different mass, damping and stiffness have been systematically discussed.

An analysis is presented for the combination resonance of a clamped circular plate, which occurs when the frequency of the excitation is near the combination of the natural frequencies, that is, when ohm.=2.0mega./sub 1/+omega./sub 2/. The internal resonance, Omega./sub 3/=omega./sub 1/+2.omega./sub 2/, is considered and its influence on the response is studied. The clamped circular plate experiencing mid-plane stretching is governed by a nonlinear partial differential equation. By using Galerkin's method the governing equation is reduced to a system of nonautonomous ordinary differential equations. The method of multiple scales is used to obtain steady-state responses of the system. Results of numerical investigations show that the increase of the excitation amplitude can reduce the amplitudes of steady-state responses. We can not find this kind of results in linear systems.
