The steel-concrete composite column (i.e., the SC composite column) supports large-gravity loads and simplifies the installation and removal of the work in pouring the concrete. The column takes advantage of the in-plant prefabrication of steel, the speed of erection of a steel structure, and the fire resistance of steel. This paper presents the results of a parametric study using heat transfer analysis and a P-M interaction curve, and compares these results with the experimental results to check the accuracy of the proposed parametric studies. The parametric studies, such as the study of the concrete ratio of an area and the fire protection thickness, provide information on the fire resistance of SC composite columns.

One of the problems for practical use of fiber-reinforced plastics is the performance degradation by fatigue damage in the joints. The study is to develop a nondestructive technique for real-time evaluation of adhesively bonded composite-metal joints. From the prior study we confirmed that the bonding strength can be estimated from the correlation between the qualify of bonded parts and AUP's. We obtained a curve showing the correlation between the degree of fatigue damage and AUP's calculated from signals acquired during fatigue loading of single-lap and double-lap joints of CFRP and Al6061. The curve is an analogy to the one showing stiffness reduction ($E/E_o$) of polymer matrix composites by fatigue damage. From those facts, it is plausible to predict the degree of fatigue damage in real-time. Amplitude and AUP2 appeared to be optimal parameters to provide more reliable results for single-lap joints whereas Amplitude and AUP2 did for double-lap joints. It is recommended to select optimal parameters for different geometries in the application for real structures.

Device characteristics of the Metal-Ferroclecric-Semiconductor FET(MFSFET) are simulated in this study. The field-dependent polarization model and the square-law FET model are employed in our simulation. C-V$_{G}$ curves generated from our MFSFET simulation exhibit the accumulation, the depletion and the inversion regions clearly. The capacitance, the subthreshold and the drain current characteristics as a function of gate bias exhibit the memory windows are 1 and 2 V, when the coercive voltages of ferroelectric are 0.5 and 1 V respectively. I$_{D}$-V$_{D}$ curves are composed of the triode and the saturation regions. The difference of saturation drain currents of the MFSFET device at the dual threshold voltages in I$_{D}$-V$_{D}$ curve is 1.5, 2.7, 4.0, and 5.7 ㎃, when the gate biases are 0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3V respectively. As the drain current is demonstrated after time delay, PLZT(10/30/70) thin film shows excellent reliability as well as the decrease of saturation current is about 18 % after 10 years. Our simulation model is expected to be very useful in the estimation of the behaviour of MFSFET devices.T devices.
It might be true that both experimental and analytic techniques have been developed in the vibration analysis end engineering. It could not be said, however, that the experimental method has been also developed as much as analytic method, such as Finite Element Method One of the reason is that computation time becomes longer and that the solution often diverges depending on the choice of initial value in solving nonlinear equation. The equation in experimental modal analysis is usually composed of the nonlinear term of natural frequency and modal damping ratio, and the linear one of equivalent stiffness. In this study, the nonlinear terms were solved first, and then the linear term was obtained. The experimental modal parameters were estimated, applying the developed experimental modal analysis curve-fitting method to the super-structure model. In addition, the number of modes and modal damping ratio could be easily determined by the developed program with the application of graphical techniques and with easy handling button.

Recently, many overpasses, highway, and advanced transit systems have been constructed to distribute the traffic congestion, thus small size of curved bridges with small curvature such as ramp structures have been increasing. Many of early curved bridges had been constructed by using straight beams with curved slabs, but curved steel beams have replaced them due to the cost, aesthetic and the advantage in building the section form and manipulating the curvature of beams, thereby large portion of curved bridges were applied with steel box girders. However, steel box girder bridges needs comparatively high initial costs and continuous maintenance such as repainting, which is the one of the reason for increasing the cost. Moreover, I-type steel plate girder which is being studied by many researchers recently, seem to have problems in stability due to the low torsional stiffness, resulting from the section characteristics with thin plate used for web and open section forms. Therefore, in recent studies, researchers have proposed curved precast PSC girders with low cost and could secured safety which could replace the curved steel girder type bridges. Hence, this study developed a Smart Mold system to manufacture efficient curved precast PSC girders. And by using this mold system a 40 m 2-girder bridge was constructed for a static flexural test, to evaluate the safety and performance under ultimate load. At the manufacturing stage, each single girder showed problems in the stability due to the torsional moment, but after the girders were connected by cross beams and decks, the bridge successfully distributed the stress, thereby the stability was confirmed. The static loading test results show that the initial crack was observed at 1,400 kN when the design load was 450 kN, and the load at the allowable deflection by code was 1,800 kN, which shows that the safety and usability of the curved precast PSC bridge manufactured by Smart Mold system is secured.

While transforming the inelastic system into the equivalent elastic one gives an advantage of simpler analysis, the actual inelastic behavior of the system is hardly modeled in the capacity spectrum method (CSM). Therefore, the accuracy of CSM depends on the precise estimation of equivalent period and damping ratio as well as the modification of the elastic response spectrum and the corresponding demand spectrum. In this paper, the effect of demand spectrums on the accuracy of CSM is evaluated. First, the response reduction factors provided in ATC-40 and Euro Code are evaluated. Numerical analysis results indicated that the acceleration responses obtained using the factor of Euro Code are closer to the actual response than those obtained using the factors of ATC-40. Next, the accuracy of CSM is evaluated constructing the demand spectrum using the absolute acceleration responses and pseudo acceleration responses. The results obtained using the absolute acceleration responses were found to be generally larger than those obtained using the pseudo ones. Since CSM often underestimates the response, the use of absolute acceleration response gives the response relatively closer to the exact ones. However, the difference becomes negligible as the hardening ratio and the yield strength ratio become larger.
A curved beam is one of the basic and important structural elements in structural design. In this paper, the authors formulated the computational algorithm for analyzing the free vibration of curved beams using the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method. The concept of the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method is the combination of the modeling technique of the finite element method and the transfer technique of the transfer stiffness coefficient method. And, we confirm the effectiveness the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method from the free vibration analysis of two numerical models which are a semicircle beam and a quarter circle beam.

Instrumented indentation tests have been used for estimating material properties. In order to analyze deformation characteristics with various factors, the unloading stiffness should be properly determined from the elastic behaviour. In general, the unloading stiffness is obtained from shifted power functions fitting to indentation unloading curves. But, the functions give often a poor representation of actual data. In this study, control conditions for fitting unloading curves by shifted power functions were investigated. The current efforts may provide useful information about unloading process and valid unloading stiffness.
