A Study on the Behavior of Soft Clay Foundation Reinforced with Soil Cement Piles by Centrifugal Model Tests (원심모형실험에 의한 시멘트 개량말뚝으로 보강된 연약점토지반의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • One of problems being faced during construction of soil structures along the coastal regions is the stabilization of soft clay foundation, In this study, centrifugal model bests were conducted to investigate behavior effect of soft foundation reinforced by cement -soil piles for the stabilization of softs clay foundation during the embankment construction. This paper presents results of settlement and heaving behavior of reinforced and unreinforced foundation with time under the swaged loading for different best conditions. The test results have shown that the reductions of vertical settlement of the foundation and heaving of the ground surface adjacent to the embankment are greatly influenced by strength of improved pile, and moisture content, and especially the ratio of replacement area.

  • It is necessary to estimate the range and Doppler shifted spectrum for the extraction of useful information from the return echoes in the frequency modulated continuous wave radar systems used for the remote sending purpose such as detection of moving targets. However, the spectrum estimation using the FFT method causes the very large sidolobes of clutter masking the essential signal information if the acquisition time of an echo signal is pretty short. Therefore, in this paper, the efficient data windowing method is investigated to suppress the strong sidelobe levels of the clutter and results are analyzed.

Flow Resistance by Discontinuous Topography in Simulating Shallow-water Flow (천수 흐름 모의에서 불연속 지형에 따른 흐름 저항)

  • The hydrostatic pressure, thrust, and wall reflection by a step were studied as the flow resistance due to the discontinuous topography by using the Hwang's scheme in calculating fluxes with an approximate Riemann solver. Compared with the broad-crested weir experiments, the result simulated by using the thrust was the best among them. Hwang's scheme with the thrust by a step was applied to the side weir experiment. The results of simulation agreed well with those of the experiment. Compared to the existing depth-integrated model, the accuracy was slightly lowered, but the running time was reduced to about 20 %.

  • In recent decade, there has been a very rapid development in technical possibilities to provide patients with maxillofacial prostheses. Dr. Brenemark first introduced possibility of use of maxillofacial interosseous implant in patients with ablative tumor surgery in 1979. He did introduce the new type of maxillofacial implants system which widen the fixture flange on top of the bone. The advantages of fixed prostheses with implants were well known to various ways, easy to attach, keep clean prostheses, and not to disturb recipient bed. But there are some problems to install implants on maxillofacial regions, because mostly facial bone has very thin cortical bone and poor bone quality. It needs more retention between implant and bone which overcome that fault with fixture flange. To make maxillofacial prostheses, it should be understood general procedure of maxillofacial laboratory work. Ear and midface maxillofacial fabrication which include nose and eye defects will be described step by step.

Storage System of Video Database of Considering User Classes (사용자등급을 고려한 비디오 데이터베이스의 저장시스템)

  • Video database has the function that stores videos and retrieves the video informations for the service request of users. Therefore, the purpose of the video database is to provide not only an environment both convenient and efficient for retrieving and storing video, but also to serve the requested video informations with rapid startup latency for more users. But, some users of video database as VOD application might tolerate slow startup latency because they would watch video during one hour or two hours. In this paper, we propose the novel policy of the storage system of video database, which serves efficiently the users by considering the classes of the users in video database. The policy admits the random movements of disk heads for urgent user classes but maintains the sequential or restricted movements of disk heads for less-urgent user classes like VOD application in storage system of video database. So, it can not provide only rapid startup latencies for urgent requests but also it can process more service requests in all.

The Characteristics on the Groundwater Level Change and Rainfall-Runoff in Moojechi Bog (무제치늪 지역의 지하수위 변동과 강우의 유출 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the hydrological characteristics of groundwater level change and rainfall-runoff processes at the Moojechi Bog located in Mt. Jeungjok, Ulsan. The average runoff rate of bog was 0.58 which is similar to that of general mountainous watershed. In the short term hydrograph, runoff was increased slowly and It took a long time to arrive peak flow. After that time, the decreasing pattern of runoff was slower than that of general mountainous watershed. In case of the long term water budget, the Moojechi Bog had a abundant base flow and runoff was continued in spite of non rainfall period. The groundwater level was arrived peak flow immediately after rain stop but was decreased very slowly until the next rain. The change pattern of long term groundwater level was very similar to that of the amount of rain and discharge. The higher rainfall intensity was, the lower slope of recession curve on the groundwater level was and the longer rainfall duration was, the longer peak flow was. Judging from these results, Moojechi bog could be evaluated to have a constant groundwater level.

  • In this paper, a dispersive anisotropic perfectly matched layer(APML) is proposed using piecewise linear recursive convolution(PLRC) for finite difference time domain(FDTD) methods. This proposed APML can be utilized for the analysis of a nonlinear dispersive medium as absorbing boundary condition(ABC). The formulation is simple modification to the original AMPL and can be easily implemented. Also it has some advantages of the PLRC approach-fast speed, low memory cost, and easy formulation of multiple pole susceptibility. We applied this APML to 2-D propagation problems in dispersive media such as Debye and Lorentz media The results showed good absorption at boundaries.

Troposhperic Ozone Pollutions in Korea during 1998-2002 Using Two Ozone Indices for Vegetation Protection (식생보호를 위한 한계농도 누적 지표로 본 1998-2002년도의 우리나라 대기권 오존 오염)

  • Tropospheric ozone data in Korea for 1998-2002 were analyzed to assess the impact on vegetation. SUM06(sum of hourly concentrations at or above 0.06 ppm) and AOT40(accumulated exposure over a threshold of 40 ppb), widely used as ozone indices in the U.S. and Europe, were calculated based on hourly ozone concentration in 612 areas during 1998-2002 in Korea. SUM06 of the highest 30 areas were 5-12 ppm/hr which were almost the same levels of the U.S. average, and a crop loss of 5% would be expected. Ozone pollution in Seoul during 1998-2002 had decreased compared to that for 1990-97 except in the Northern area; however, ozone pollution in Kyunggi during 1998-2002 had been increased twice compare to the previous 5 years. Korea was divided into four regions: Seoul Metropolitan area, Jungbu, Honam, and Youngnam. Ozone pollution in the Seoul Metropolitan area was much higher during 1998-2000 than the other areas, but ozone pollution during 2001-2002 was almost the same in all four regions. Chunnam-Kwangyang na Kyungbuk-Gumi, famous industrial complexes in southern Korea, were significant ozone pollution areas. However, other industrial complexes, such as Incheon, Ulsan, and Kyunggi-Sihwa, were not polluted compared to their neighbors. Comparing all ozone indices, SUM06(yr), SUM06(3mon), AOT40(yr), AOT40(3mon), number of hours exceeding 100 ppb, 95 percentile, 99 percentile, and maximum concentration, it was determined reasonable to use SUM06(3mon), AOT40(3mon) and number of hours exceeding 100 ppb for evaluation of the chronic impact of ozone on vegetation.

Diel Change of Methane Emission through Rice Plant under Different Water Management and Organic Amendment (물 관리와 유기물 시용이 다른 논에서 벼 식물체를 통한 메탄 배출의 일변화)

  • To characterize diel pattern of methane transport via rice plant, methane emission was measured on specific days in rice growing stages; tillering, meiotic, heading and harvest stages, from a paddy under different water management and organic amendments. Methane emission was monitored every two hours a day from chambers with and without rice plants. Proportion of the rice plant-mediated methane emission at different stage increased till the maximum growth of LAI and dry weight, and decreased thereafter. The proportion of methane emission through rice plants on June 18-19 at tillering stage was 38.4, 36.5 and 64.3 percent for NPK, Rice straw compost, RSC, and rice straw on February, RS2, respectively. The proportion on July 30-31 at meiotic stage was 70.4, 74.3 and 74.4 percent for NPK, RSC and RS2, respectively. The proportion on August 20-21 at heading stage was 80.1, 84.5 and 74.8 percent for NPK, RSC and RS2, respectively. The proportion on September 28-29 at harvest stage was 69.9, 65.9 and 64.4 percent for NPK, RSC and RS2, respectively.

Strength Properties of Mortar Mixed with Accelerator for Freeze Protection in Constant and Variable Temperature Condition (정온 및 변온조건하에서 내한촉진제를 혼합한 모르터의 강도특성)

  • When fresh concrete is exposed to low temperature, the concrete may suffer frost damage due to freezing at early ages and the strength development may be delayed. One of the solution methods to resolve these problems is to reduce freezing temperature of concrete by the use of chemical admixture called Accelerator for freeze protection. In this study we Investigate the effect on the strength development of cement mortar using accelerator for freeze protection with the variable curing condition. As the result of this study, the mortar using accelerator for freeze protection show continuously the strength development in curing condition of -5$^{\circ}C$. And the compressive strength under variable temperature condition was higher than constant temperature condition in same maturity.
