Diminished reality (DR) is a technique that provide a visual convenience by virtually hiding an object. Most of existing DR systems have been implemented based on HMDs or desktop displays. However, Here has been no report on the development of DR system based on projection displays due to technical difficulty in spite of its superiority in the aspect of human factor to conventional displays. Rapid advances of projection displays and projection-based vision technologies motivated us to develop a projection-based DR system. As the first attempt, this paper proposes a projection-based diminished reality system using an image completion technique. Its usefulness is demonstrated through experiments and its potential applications are discussed.
The purpose of the research was to examine the effect of field of view on egocentric distance perception in the real and virtual environment. The replica that mimicked the real environment condition was used to create the virtual environment condition. We manipulated field of view levels equally in both viewing conditions using glasses that limit the field of view in real-world conditions and limiting the field of view in virtual-world conditions in a manner equivalent to real-world conditions via HMD. Eighteen participants observed the target with a limited field of view in a real and virtual environment without head movement. Then, we measured perceived distance using the timed imagined walking method, which measures the time taken by each participant to mentally walk to the target. The target was shown three times at three different distances from the participants: 3, 4, and 5 m. For the analysis, we converted time estimates into distance estimates. Consequently, the estimated distance in the virtual environment condition was less than the estimated distance in the real environment condition. And as the field of view shrank, the estimated distance also decreased. The estimated distance did not vary with field of view levels in real-world conditions. In the virtual environment, the estimated distance decreased as the field of view decreased, whereas in the real environment, the estimated distance increased. The implications of the results and some future research directions are discussed below.

This study developed an English conversation learning program using virtual reality(VR) and mobile devices. Participants learned and practiced English conversational patterns in immersive virtual reality and mobile conditions. In the program, participants learned and practiced nine conversational patterns with virtual characters in four steps. Language anxiety and conversational fluency were measured to examine the effects of this program. Language anxiety questionnaire was administered before and after the experiment. The results showed that language anxiety was significantly reduced after learning in both conditions, and the reduction waa significantly greater in the immersive condition. Conversational fluency was assessed based on the changes in the length, appropriateness, and accuracy of the responses before and after participants learned and practiced conversational episodes. The results showed that the length, appropriateness, and accuracy of the responses were improved in both conditions after learning. The response length was significantly longer in the immersive VR conditions. These results suggest that immersive VR can be an effective tool to enhance English conversational abilities.
HMD makes big issues about virtual reality in these days. Experience of virtual reality may cause different effects with experience of real world, so this is the reason why comparison studies are needed. There are many works about usefulness of virtual reality education but most of studies were considered as special training. This study was started for the long term memory effect of virtual reality education game. Difference study of memory between real world education game and virtual reality education game shows virtual reality system has smaller diminution of memory than real world. And environment existence was defined as a main effect of long term memory through the test.

This study developed an English conversation learning program in immersive virtual reality (VR) environments and compared its effects with non-immersive VR environment using a computer monitor. The effects of the program was assessed using language anxiety and learning achievement. The results indicated that students' language anxiety decreased significantly after learning English conversation in VR environment, but there was no difference between immersive and non-immersive VR. The two VR conditions also produced similar learning outcomes. Future research on immersive VR need to address cyber sickness problems and develop effective learning contents in order to realize its potential for learning.

The decline of cybersickness, an important task that must be addressed in terms of growth of the virtual reality content industry, is a subject of much attention not only in the industrial sector but also in academia. However, despite the long-standing interest in and research on cybersickness, the solution is insufficient. In this paper, the purpose of this paper is to develop a tool to effectively measure cybersickness when users experience immersive virtual reality, and come up with measures to reduce cybersickness. First, the common factors related to cybersickness were analyzed in the method used in the preceding study, and each was derived as a subcomponent. Based on this, we are going to present an effective cybersickness measurement assessment tool model in immersive virtual reality. We would like to refer the assessment tool model to the study as well as to the reduction of cybersickness.
