  • In this study, the problem formulation and solution technique using genetic algorithms for design optimization of laminate composite cylindrical beam section are presented. The hollow cylindrical beams we usually used in the wheel chair. If the weight of wheel chair is reduced, it will lead to huge improvement in passenger's mobility and comfort. In this context, the replacement of steel by high performance and light weight composite material along with optimal design will be a good contribution in the process of weight reduction of a wheel chair. An artificial genetics approach for the design optimization of hollow cylindrical composite beam is presented. On applying the genetic algorithm, the optimal dimensions of hollow cylindrical composite beams which have equivalent rigidities to those of corresponding hollow cylindrical steel beams are obtained. Also structural analysis is conducted on the entire wheel chair structure incorporating Tsai-Wu failure criteria. The maximum Tsai-Wu failure criteria index is $0.192\times10^{-3}$ which is moth less than value of 1.00 indicating no failure is observed under excessive loading condition. It is found that the substitution of steel by composite material could reduce the weight of wheel chair up to 45%.

  • Recently, the trend of construction has been concentrated on the development of structural systems improved economically. As a result, the usage of High Performance Steel which simplifies the girder structures and shortens the construction time is increasing. Also the interest in Longitudinally Profiled(LP) plate as a structural element for girders has been increased. The LP can distribute efficiently the sectional force applied to the structure, and also reduce the self-weight and the number of welding points. The LP plate was developed in Europe originally and its application has been increased rapidly on steel structures in Korea. Though it is used widely and internationally, the study for the LP plate application is rarely performed. In this paper, sectional stress and deflections were analyzed in the different section types by solid element in the finite element method; finally the workability, as well as economical efficiency of the LP plate produced in Korea was evaluated.

  • For the joint connection of the precast steel grid composite decks, the prefabricated joint which is composed of concrete shear key and high-tension bolts was already proposed. In this study, for the purpose of increasing the bending stiffness and bending strength of the proposed prefabricated joint section details of the proposed joint are modified, and through experimental tests the bending performance, such as stiffness and strength of a modified joint, is compared with those of the proposed joint. Test and analysis results show that the shear cracks in the concrete shear key are clearly reduced by the strengthening of the shear key using shear studs and additional rebars. According to analysis results of the moment-curvature relationship, bending stiffness of the modified joint is about 47% greater than the stiffness of the proposed joint. Furthermore, the modified joint has about 32% greater bending strength than the proposed joint. Compared to specimens without the joint the modified joint has same or slightly higher bending strength, but about 37% lower bending stiffness.

  • In this study, scaled model tests were performed to investigate the stability of three parallel tunnels. Seven types of test models which had respectively different pillar widths, tunnel sectional shapes, support conditions and ground conditions were experimented, where crack initiating pressures and deformation behaviors around tunnels were investigated. In order to evaluate the effect of pillar widths on stability, various models were experimented. As results, the models with shallower pillar widths proved to be unstable because of lower crack initiating pressures and more tunnel convergences than the models with thicker pillar widths. In order to find the effect of tunnel sectional shape on stability, the models with arched, semi-arched and rectangular tunnels were experimented. Among them rectangular tunnel model was the most unstable, where the arched tunnel model with small radius of roof curvature was more stable than semi-arched one. The model with rockbolt showed higher crack initiating pressure and less roof lowering than the unsupported model. The deformation behaviors of tunnels in the anisotropic ground model were quite different from those in the isotropic ground model. Futhermore, the results of FLAC analysis were qualitatively coincident with the experimental results.

  • The prediction of heat transfer and pressure drops in the exchanger passages is a clue to the problem of heat exchanger design. In order to make such predictions for non-Newtonian fluids, it is necessary to know the relation between the viscous properties of the fluid and the wall shear rate in the duct. This study deals with the limits of validity of the power law equation. The useful methodology of the present research involves a consideration of a more general equation which has power law and Newtonian behavior as asymptotes. It isconcluded that use of the power law equation outside of its applicability range can lead to serious errors inpredicting the heat transfer and pressure drops. The present computational results of the friction factors times Reynolds number for shear-thinning fluid flows in a triangular duct are compared with previous published results, showing agreement with 0.13 % in Newtonian region and 2.85 % in power law region. These shear-thinning fluid results also showed the 12% increase of convective heat transfer enhancement compared with Newtonian heat transfer.

  • In river design, consideration of bed shear stresses is necessary to secure stability of levee and floodplain. In this study distributions of bed shear stresses in compound open channels are analyzed through numerical simulation for various width and depth. LES solver in OpenFOAM is applied to 12 cases of compound channel shapes considering secondary flow which effects distributions of bed shear stresses. By the results time averaged velocity distributions, secondary currents, and distributions of bed shear stresses are analyzed. Overall distributions of bed shears in floodplain show that higher shear stresses are seen in left of floodplain and the shears decrease toward right of floodplain. However, high local variations in shear stresses are shown due to the secondary flow effects. In shallow floodplain, bed shear stresses show low value below 0.8 times of averaged bed shear. In deep floodplain, bed shear stresses show high value over 1.2 - 1.4 times of averaged bed shear.

  • This study evaluated the support performance of fiber-net integrated shotcrete in tunnel support system developed for the purpose of improving constructability and stability while fully performing its mechanical performance as a tunnel support materials by four-point bending test, two-dimensional numerical analysis, and cross-sectional analysis. As a result of evaluating the flexural performance through a four-point bending test, in the case of fiber-net reinforced shotcrete, the tensile performance of fiber-net resulted in a continuous increase in load after crack occurrence, unlike steel fiber reinforced shotcrete. Also, the results of the tunnel cross-sectional structure analysis for ground conditions and the cross-sectional analysis of fiber-net and steel fiber reinforced shotcrete showed that sufficient support performance can be exhibited even if the thickness of fiber-net reinforced shotcrete was reduced compared to the previous one. Additionally, through these results, the support pattern of fiber-net integrated shotcrete in tunnel support system, which can be applied efficiently to the construction sections requiring higher stability among the rock mass class III, was proposed.

  • This study analyzed the effectiveness of orbital change through attitude change in nano-satellites operating in low Earth orbit (LEO) without thrusters, focusing on collision avoidance maneuvers. The results revealed that changes in the satellite's cross-sectional area significantly impact its in-track direction, influenced by the aspect ratio of cross-sectional area change and mission altitude. Notably, satellites at lower altitudes demonstrated significant reduction in collision risks with a small amount of attitude change. Through this study, it is judged that the changing the cross-sectional area through attitude maneuver is a sufficiently suitable method in the operation of nano-satellites without thrusters, and is expected to contribute to improving the safety of satellite operations in the New Space era.

  • When reinforcing strip footing on a sand 8round with reticulated root piles, reinforcing effect depends on the length , number, cross sectional area, penetration angle, spacing, and Young's modulus of piles. the mode of action of reinfocement tendons in soil isn't one of carring developed tensile stresses but of anisotropic(uni-directional) reduction or even supression of one normal strain rate. R. H. Bassett and N. C. Last proposed that the reinforcement should be located on the direction of minor strain rate which coincides with the tensile strain rate in the velocity characteristics. Based on this proposal the author carried out a series of 2 - dimentional finite element analysis which varies the parameters mentioned above.

Yellow Index(Y.I.), White Index(W.I.)를 비교분석하였다. 결과를 보면 인도산 원면이 다른 원면에 비해 Y.I.와 W.I.
