Conservation Treatment of Seated Stone Bhaishajyaguru-Vaidurya Buddha Statue from Yongjang-gye (용장계 석조약사불좌상의 보존처리)

  • There is a Seated Stone Bhaishajyaguru-Vaidurya Buddha (Medicine Buddha) which was moved from Yongjang-gye in the garden of Gyeongju National Museum. The head was cemented on the body of the statue in 1974 before its display. Recently, we have done another conservation work on the statue because microbes and the other contaminants have built up on the surface and the restored part of the statue has loosened again. By taking r-ray pictures, we have checked the structure of the statue, especially the connected part and removed old materials used for the previous restoration. We reinforced the cracked parts, cleaned the surface, and then restored the statue. We finished the conservation process by adjusting the color.

  • Local treatment for tumors has developed from extended radical surgery to function preserving surgery on the basis of modern biology. With the development of minimally invasive technique, it changed to be minimal-invasive surgery. And nowadays technical revolution made non-invasive surgery possible with appearance of several kinds of non-surgical knives such as gamma knife, cyber knife, and HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) knife. In this article, history, HIFU machine and treatment procedure, histological change and its mechanism, clinical applications, advantage, disadvantage, and future prospect of extracorporeal high intensity focused ultrasound therapy using HIFU knife will be reviewed.

  • 임의의 영상에서 얼굴을 검출하는 것은 얼굴을 인식하는데 있어서 선행되어야 할 필수과정이다. 본 논문은 조명의 변화가 심한 컬러영상에서 얼굴을 검출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문은 기존의 기하학적 밝기분포 마스크만을 사용한 방법이 조명 변화에 취약한 단점을 보완하는데 중점을 두었다. 히스토그램 평활화(Histogram Equalization : HE)와 감마 크기 보정 (Gamma Intensity Correction : GIC) 방법을 이용해서 조명에 대한 간섭을 줄인 후, 영상 전체에서 피부 영역을 추출하고 이어서 눈 후보들을 검출한다. 검출된 눈 후보들로부터 기하학적 밝기분포 마스크를 적용하여 효과적으로 얼굴 후보들을 찾을 수 있고, 이렇게 찾아진 얼굴 후보들은 주성분분석법(Principal Component Analysis : PCA)를 이용해서 얼굴인지 여부를 판별하게 된다. 본 알고리즘은 조명 밝기 등으로 인해 검출률이 떨어졌던 단점을 보완할 수 있었고, 향후 얼굴 검출 분야에 있어서도 활용 가치가 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • When an integrated circuit device is burned out under high-intense radiation and device-level simulation that usually requires manufacturer's proprietary information is not available, experimental conformation of a failure mechanism is often the only choice. To distinguish Latchup from other causes experimentally, a new combination of multiple techniques have been developed and demonstrated. Power supply circumvention, hot-spot monitoring using an infrared camera, and supply current monitoring techniques were implemented for the conformation of the Latchup.

  • PDP is the flat panel display, suitable for high definition television because of large-sire and high-brightness. It has many advantages such as fast response, wide viewing angle, low weight, and simple manufacturing process for fabrication. However, there are some disadvantages and one of them is the image quality degradation, which is dependent on the digital signal processing. Although image quality of PDP is improving by many researches and experimentations, it still isn't as good as that of CRT because of various factors. One of them is worm-like pattern generated by an error diffusion process. And the worm-like pattern is severely increased after an APL process. An increased worm-like pattern occur a drop of resolution in image and a change of CCT according to each grayscale. In this paper, a method for improvement of image quality using the error diffusion which considers the APL process is proposed. In the proposed method, the APL process is performed before the error diffusion process. Simulation results showed that the proposed method has better performances for resolution in images and CCT uniformity according to each grayscale than the conventional method.

Road Image Enhancement Method for Vision-based Intelligent Vehicle (비전기반 지능형 자동차를 위한 도로 주행 영상 개선 방법)

  • This paper presents an image enhancement method in real road traffic scenes. The images captured by the camera on the car cannot keep the color constancy as illumination or weather changes. In the real environment, these problems are more worse at back light conditions and at night that make more difficult to the applications of the vision-based intelligent vehicles. Using the existing image enhancement methods without considering the position and intensity of the light source and their geometric relations the image quality can even be deteriorated. Thus, this paper presents a fast and effective method for image enhancement resembling human cognitive system which consists of 1) image preprocessing, 2) color-contrast evaluation, 3) alpha blending of over/under estimated image and preprocessed image. An input image is first preprocessed by gamma correction, and then enhanced by an Automatic Color Enhancement(ACE) method. Finally, the preprocessed image and the ACE image are blended to improve image visibility. The proposed method shows drastically enhanced results visually, and improves the performance in traffic sign detection of the vision based intelligent vehicle applications.

  • Finite failure NHPP models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, Goel-Okumoto and Yamada-Ohba-Osaki model was reviewed, proposes the exponentiated exponential distribution reliability model, which maked out efficiency substituted for gamma and Weibull model(2 parameter shape illustrated by Gupta and Kundu(2001) Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on SSE, AIC statistics and Kolmogorov distance, for the sake of efficient model, was employed. Analysis of failure using NTDS data set for the sake of proposing shape parameter of the exponentiated exponential distribution was employed. This analysis of failure data compared with the exponentiated exponential distribution model and the existing model (using arithmetic and Laplace trend tests, bias tests) is presented.

Separation and Recovery for the Analysis of Radioiodine in RI Wastes (RI 폐기물 내 방사성요오드 분석을 위한 분리 및 회수)

  • Various kinds of RI wastes are discharged from licensed organizations of radioisotopes les such as hospitals and clinic organizations, educational organizations, research institutions, and public organizations. Radioiodines such as $^{125}I\;and\;^{131}I$ are radioisotopes mainly used in nuclear medicine and industry. A method for the determination of radioiodines in RI wastes has been applied to measure low level activity using acid decomposition method and HPGe gamma ray spectrometer. Prior to analysis of real samples, $^{131}I$ reference solution and 10 g of yellow tissue paper was added to flask in mantle and was heated in 100 mL of 0.4 N $K_2Cr_2O_7$ and 100 mL of 9 M $H_2SO_4$, and then distilled after adding 10 mL of 30% $H_2PO_3$ and 1 mL of 30% $H_2O_2$. The condensed iodine by circulator was extracted into $CCl_4$, then back-extracted into the aqueous phase with 10 mL of 5% $K_2SO_2$ solution. Finally, $^{131}I$ was measured at 364.48 keV using HPGe gamma ray spectrometer after precipitation and filtration. Chemical yield of three steps such as acid decomposition process, chemical separation process, and precipitation and filtration process was more han 94% respectively, MDA(Minimum Detectable Activity) of $^{131}I$ at this analytical condition was 0.6 Bq/g.

Geostatistical Interpretation of Cs-137 and K-40 Result of the Lithosphere in the Vicinity of Youngkwang Nuclear Power Plant (지구통계학적 방법에 의한 영광원전주변 토층내 Cs-137 및 K-40 측정 결과의 해석)

  • In order to investigate the influence of nuclear power plant operation on its nearby environment, soil, stream and marine sediment samples were collected in the vicinity of the Youngkwang Nuclear Power Plant in Korea, and analyzed for artificial and natural radionuclide radioactivity. From the analytical result, Cs-137 was detected in most soil samples. but it may have been derived fiom past nuclear weapon tests because Cs-134 having short half-live was not detected. The radioactivities of Cs-137 in the sediment samples were also detected which are within the normal range in the sediments based upon the published literature between 1997 and 1999. For the quality control of radioactivity analysis of environmental samples, sets of marine sediments in the Gamami area were analyzed using two HPGe Gamma-ray Spectroscopes (30% and 45%) according to the geostatistical sampling strategy, and Cs-137 and K-40 results were interpreted by analysis of variance (ANOVA). In the two-way ANOVA, variances derived from the geochemical variation were significant, but errors from sampling and analytical procedures are negligible. In conclusion. all the radioanalytical procedures of this study including sampling are validated to be acceptable.

Anti-obesity Effects of Ginsenoside Rd via AMPK and PPAR Gamma (진세노사이드 Rd의 AMPK 및 PPAR 감마의 신호전달경로를 통한 항비만효과)

  • Obesity is a major obstacle for human health, which induces various diseases such as cardiac injury and type 2 diabetes. Ginsenosides, active components of ginseng extract, exert various physiological effects. However, There are still no evidence for their anti obesity effects. In this study, we investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rd on adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. Our data show that ginsenoside Rd (80 uM) was effective in adipocyte differentiation inhibition. These inhibitory effects of ginsenosides on adipocyte differentiation were accompanied by PPAR gamma inhibition in rosiglitazone-treated cells. We also tested whether AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation was involved in the effects of these ginsenosides. AMPK is a master target for obesity, ginsenoside Rd significantly activated AMPK. Taken together, these results suggest that the anti obesity effects of ginsenoside Rd involve the AMPK signaling pathway and PPAR-gamma inhibition.
