The survey was conducted from October 20 to December 15, 2017 for 205 nurses working at hospitals located in D city and K province of Korea. Analysis was performed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis, Scheffe's post-hoc test, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 21.0 for Windows. The results of the study were as follows. Average score for self-leadership was 3.58, for self-efficacy was 3.56, and for job involvement was 3.36. This study showed positive correlations between self-leadership, self-efficacy and job involvement. Self-leadership, marital status, self-efficacy, and job position were significant influences on job involvement. The explanatory power of influence factors was 43.7%. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary for nursing organizations and hospitals to actively support programs that enhance self-leadership and self-efficacy, which will be used to increase nurses' job involvement and improve productivity and efficiency of nursing work.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate patient safety reporting promoting strategy for nurses to improve nursing care quality. The process included three phase - construction, implementation and evaluation phase. Before the construction phase has two kinds of subcategories as analysis and verification. Analysis phase was consisted of literature review and field study, and verification was conducted by two specialist. At the construction phase, patient safety reporting system, educational materials, planning for public relation, and reward preparation were developed. After implementation during 12 weeks, we evaluated pre-post scores of satisfaction, stress of conscience, job performances. The participants were 51 nurses working for a hospitals. The program was developed and then administered to the experimental group for 12 weeks. One group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, paired t-test with the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. After the intervention, job performance scores improved significantly from 3.62 to 3.75(t=2.653, p=.009). But job stress didn't changed significantly(t=.785, p=.434). These strategy can be applied to many clinical setting that will be helpful to promote patient safety reporting for nurses.

  • This study was a descriptive study to identify the effect of health promoting behavior on fatigue and depression and to investigate these levels among nurses. Data were collected from September 19th 2012 to September 25th 2012 by questionnaires from 243 hospital nurses of 3 hospitals in Kyungsang-Bukdo. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, ANCOVA, and Stepwise multiple regression. The result showed that in health promoting behavior, shift nurses had higher scores than it of non-shift nurses. The health promotion behavior predictors of fatigue were spiritual growth and stress management and the predictors of depression were physical activity and interpersonal relationship. This results suggest that development of professional health promoting program which is strengthened these parts of spiritual growth, stress management, physical activity and interpersonal relationship, is needed.

  • The usability evaluation of the remote fluid monitoring device, which was introduced to reduce the work of nurses and increase the efficiency, was performed due to the expansion of the non-face-to-face medical system. Remote fluid monitoring is a fusion of various technologies such as fluid measurement and analysis, error correction technology, and transmission technology. The range of use by users, the information they want to obtain, and the control device, etc. are wide, and the factors that evaluate the product are also diverse. Therefore, it is difficult to improve the product through evaluation. In this study, a quantitative index was developed to help improve the product for commercialization by conducting 20 usability evaluations in three areas of product stability, operability, and satisfaction with the remote sap monitoring system device. It was performed through infrared and load cell-type sap monitoring devices. In terms of stability, there was a difference in installation work such as fixing the pole of the device, and high satisfaction was shown for operability and accuracy. In terms of product satisfaction, the satisfaction of load cell devices was generally high.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the professional identity of elementary school health teachers. Methods: In-depth interviews with fifteen elementary school health teachers were conducted from July 2010 to August 2012. Qualitative data collected by the researcher including transcription and field notes were analyzed through an adapted methodology based on the Grounded Theory of Strauss and Corbin. Results: Fifteen categories, 35 sub-categories and 120 concepts were obtained. The key category that was consistently maintained in identity formation was 'keeping themselves being a teacher providing nursing' which has three styles, 'focusing on health education', 'combining nursing and education' and 'focusing on providing nursing care'. Conclusion: Results of this study will provide basic information for preparing manuals regarding the range of activities in school health teachers' jobs, improving promotion and merit payment systems for school health teachers, creating support programs for them, and contributing to the formation and establishment of their professional identity.

  • This study was conducted to identify the linkage and cooperation experiences in public case-management services of visiting health care practitioners. Focus group interviews were conducted with three people in charge of providing visiting healthcare services in public health centers. A semi-structured interview questionnaire was developed in advance through discussions among researchers In response to the interview questions, study participants described in detail the success and failure factors associated with linkage and cooperation that they experienced while providing visiting healthcare services. The interview data were analyzed qualitatively to identify the main themes and sub-themes reflecting visiting nurses' experiences with linkage and cooperation. The three main themes were: 'Guidelines act as positive performance factors for community-based linkage and cooperation', 'Unstable employment and lack of an integrated system act as barriers to linkage and cooperation', and 'Necessary for multidimensional approach to promoting linkage and cooperation'. Based on these results, the authors propose the development of clear linkage and cooperation standards and procedures, thereby ensuring job security for visiting nurses. Moreover, an integrated information system should be developed and implemented.

  • This study was conducted to compare nurses' job stress, hardness and burnout between general hospitals and advanced general hospitals. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires from 394 nurses(general 198, upgrade general 196) in the C and S city between April and May, 2010. Data analysis was done with independent t test, ANCOVA, ANOVA, Scheffe & Eacute test and Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS WIN v 17.0. Job stress, hardness, and burnout of nurses in general hospitals were 2.45, 2.11 and 3.70 respectively. Those in advanced general hospitals were 2.69, 2.70 and 3.70 respectively. Job stress and hardness were significantly higher in general hospitals. There was no significant difference of burnout between general and advanced general hospitals. Burnout of nurses in both hospitals was positively correlated with job stress and negatively correlated with hardness. Further studies are necessary for identify factors influencing job stress of general hospitals. Program for enhancing hardness of nurses in upgrade general hospitals should be developed.

  • This paper describes nurses' perceptions toward parental participation in pediatric intensive care units (PICU). Qualitative data were collected from five nurses working at two PICUs in Seoul through individual in-depth interviews. The interviews were conducted from January to February 2016 and analyzed using traditional content analysis. Five categories were found for the parent participation in PICU: needs, attributes, benefits, barriers, and facilitating strategies for parent participation in PICU. Nurses acknowledged the necessities and benefits of parent participation, particularly in PICU, considering the parents' emotional burdens due to the critical health condition of their child as well as the limited visiting policy. The major barriers were a lack of knowledge and the skills of nurses to facilitate parent participation, nurses' heavy workloads, and lack of policies and guidelines supporting parent participation within the PICUs and hospitals. The participants indicated that organizational facilitating-strategies, such as education for nurses about meaning and skills of parent participation in PICU, raising awareness for nurses as well as parents, and ensuring professional staff dedicated to promoting parent participation, to be significant factors. Further study will be needed to develop nursing interventions to integrate parent participation in PICU care.
