Perceived Intrinsic and Extrinsic Rewards on Nurses' Job Enthusiasm (인지된 내적 외적 보상이 간호사의 직무 열정에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to understand the relationship between nurses' rewards and job enthusiasm, using the data from the 5th Korean Working Conditions Survey(2017). The subjects of this study consist of 359 nurses randomly sampled nationwide(218 from youth group, 141 from midddle age group). The effects of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards on job enthusiasm was indentified through GLM analysis. The results reveal that, for the entire group, participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, recognition at work, work-life balance influence job enthusiasm. For the youth group, participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, and work-life balance are the influencing factors; while for the middle age group, sense of achievement, self-esteem, and recognition at work are the influencing factors. In conclusion, we suggest establishing a reward system that incorporates participation in decision making, sense of achievement, self esteem, career prospects, recognition at work, and work-life balance, in order to boost nurses' job enthusiasm. Also, taking age groups into account when establishing such system may improve efficiency.

Current Roles and Administrative Facts of the Korean Physician Assistant (전담간호사 운영현황과 역할 실태)

  • Hospitals in Korea have been increasingly using physician assistants (PA) as an alternative way of dealing with the shortage of residents. However, some incidents of a Physician's Assistant practicing beyond their legal scope require closer examination of the current PA's roles and functions. This study is a web-based survey designed towards targeting physician assistants in Korea (KPA) who practice delegated tasks under a physician's license. Currently, there are 2,125 KPAs working in 141 general hospitals and medical centers. Data from 704 nurses from who responded to the questionnaire were analyzed with descriptive statistics using the SPSS 12.0 program. Their mean age is 32.5 years with 8-10 years of clinical experiences, with males being more likely to be a PA. Despite of KPAs providing medical services and performing invasive procedures, only 13% of KPAs are licensed APNs (advanced practice nurse). KPAs have a low job satisfaction due to a lack of rewards and the necessity for providing illegal practices, and are experiencing identity confusion. The current KPA system is a transitional product of the change from the hierarchial structure to a more collaborative relationship between the medical and nursing departments. Providing adequate education and training, establishing protocols with legal protection, and developing professional independent scope of care are recommended to deliver safe and efficient medical services.

  • 본 논문에서는 타인의 도움 없이 자율적으로 환자를 따라다니며 환자의 상태를 주기적으로 주치의에게 전달하는 스마트 링거대를 구현하였다. 기존의 링거대는 환자 혼자 끌고다니며 움직이기에는 여러 가지 불편한 점이 있다. 예를 들면 잠을 잘 때 링거대의 위치를 환자가 직접 옮겨놓고 자야하며, 옮기기도 몸이 불편한 환자 입장에서는 많은 어려움이 따른다. 또 링거액을 다 썼을 때도 간호사에게 직접 가서 말을 해야 하거나, 피가 역류했을 때도 불편한 몸을 이끌고 간호사에게 가야 한다. 이런 여러 가지 불편함을 스마트 링거대를 제작함으로써 링거대의 이동부터 여러 가지 도움이 필요한 상황이 발생 시 간호사에게 연락을 할 수 있도록 하며, 여러 가지 돌발 상황을 대비하여 추가적으로 심박동 및 체온을 측정하여 이상이 발생 할 시 자동적으로 간호사와 보호자에게 연락이 갈 수 있도록 함으로써 병원에서 환자에게도, 간호사에게도 큰 도움이 될 것이라고 사료된다.

Perceptions of nurses as a profession in Korea (간호전문직에 대한 인식)

  • 연구목적 : 전문직으로서 간호사에 대한 인식을 집단별로 파악하고 이들에 대한 인식을 비교한다. 연구방법 : 설문지를 이용한 비교조사연구로서 조사대상은 간호사, 간호학교수, 의사, 약사, 간호조무사, 병원행정직원, 행정관료, 정당활동가, 일반시민 등을 포함한 총 584명이었으며, 설문지는 12개 하부항목으로 범주화된 36개 문항으로 구성되었다. 연구결과 : 간호사에 대한 인식은 의사가 가장 긍적적이었으며, 병원직원이 가장 부정적이었다. 모든 집단에서 가장 긍정적인 인식을 갖고 있는 항목은 '사회적 요구'였으며, 그 다음은 '직무기술', '사회적 인식' 등의 순으로 나타났다. 가장 부정적인 것은 '간호교육'이었고, 그 다음은 '간호조직체 활동', '직무환경' 순으로 나타났다. 결론 : 본 연구를 기초로 하여 간호사들은 다른 집단들을 대상으로 전문직으로서의 간호사에 대한 인식을 높이기 위한 전략을 마련하여야 한다.

Study on the Awareness, Satisfaction and Job Stress of Nurses using EMR System (EMR System을 이용하는 간호사의 인식도, 만족도와 직무스트레스에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to arrange the basic data for the ways to operate the effective nursing programs and reduce job stress by grasping the awareness, satisfaction and job stress of the nurses due to the introduction of EMR(EMR : Electronic Medical Record) system and clarifying the relationship among them. Methods: Of the hospitals which introduced EMR, the study was conducted for 356 nurses who used EMR in a university hospital in D city and the data was collected from June 1 to June 30. The collected data was analyzed with real number, percentage, T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The results of the study above, it could be certified that the higher the satisfaction and awareness of the users of EMR were, the more the job stress of them decreased. Therefore, the qualitative nursing should be provided to the patients by reducing job stress with the improvement of the awareness and satisfaction of the nurses of EMR, and shortening the time in keeping the records of patients, in order to enhance the satisfaction of EMR, there should be a proper management, such as a regular EMR education, and there must be the ways to reduce the job stress of the nurses and strengthen the satisfaction of EMR.

Comparison of Expectation-Perception between Patient and Nurse on Nursing Care Service in Comprehensive Nursing Care Wards (간호간병통합서비스 병동의 간호서비스에 대한 환자-간호사 인식도 비교)

  • The aim of this study was to compare perception between patient and nurse on comprehensive nursing care service using SERVQUAL model. To accomplish this goal, the 5 gaps of expectation-perception on comprehensive nursing care service was analyzed. The subjects were 192 nurses and 321 patients who admitted in comprehensive nursing care service wards. As results, patient's satisfaction was higher than patient's expectation and also nurse's performance. Therefore, we found that comprehensive nursing care service would contribute to perform holistic nursing care services in the future. To develop comprehensive nursing care service system sustainably, it needs continuous measurement of patient's expectation and satisfaction using conceptual model of this study.

An Integrative Review of Meditation Program for Stress Relief of Nurses (국내 간호사의 스트레스완화를 위한 명상프로그램에 관한 통합적 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study was to review meditation programs for stress relief of Korean nurses. Whittmore and Knafl's integrative review methods were used. The search yielded 97 articles, 7 of which met the criteria and were included in the review. One of the selected studies was a randomized controlled quasi-experimental design and six were a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Meditation programs varied from 5 to 8 sessions. All of the meditation programs measured the effect on stress as various meditation programs. However, there was one study confirming the degree of stress management maintenance after the end of the meditation program. Although there are contents to strengthen the practice and will of nurses, it was confirmed that it was difficult to evaluate sincerity. Therefore, a highly accessible program for nurses in various clinical situations and strategies to strengthen participants' practice and will needs to be included in the meditation program content.

Effects of MBO and Job Commitment on Nursing Performance in Operating Room Nurses (수술실 간호사의 목표관리특성과 직무몰입이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to examine the effect of management by objectives(MBO) and job commitment on the nursing performance of operating room(OR) nurses. The study was conducted on 226 OR nurses from tertiary healthcare institutions in Seoul. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of OR nurses on nursing performance. In results, the factors that affect the nursing performance of OR nurses included the concreteness of goals, job commitment, and measurability of objectives in that order, and these variables explained 25.9% of the nursing performance. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of the nursing work, it is necessary to make efforts to create a work environment where nursing can be carried out due to the nature of the nursing operation. In addition, it is essential to develop a strategy to further the influence of the concreteness and measurability of goals among other attributes, thereby enhancing the job performance of OR nurses.

Mediating Effect of Work-Family Conflict in the Relationship between Sleep Problems and Job Engagement in Married Female Nurses (기혼여성 간호사의 수면문제와 직무열의 간의 관계에서 일-가정 갈등의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effect of sleep problems and work-family conflict on job engagement of married female nurses and prove the mediating effect of work-family conflict. This study was the secondary data analysis from the 5th Korean Working Conditions Survey. The sample included 259 married female nurses. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0 program. As a results, the significant predictors for job engagement were sleep problems (β=-.33) and work-family conflict (β=-.30). Also, there was a mediating effect of work-family conflict between sleep problems and job engagement(p<.001). And these variables explained 28.0% of married female nurses' job engagement. These findings may also be useful for improving the work-related well-being of married female nurses. Therefore, findings from this research can be used to institute guidelines for convergence interventions to increase job engagement in married female nurses.

Long-Term Care Hospital Nurse's Experience in Coping with End-of-life Care Nursing (요양병원 간호사의 임종간호 대처 경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify, describe, and understand the meaning of experiences by clarifying the structure of the coping experience of end-of-life care(EOLC) experienced by long-term care hospitals(LTCHs) nurses'. Methods: Data were gathered from 16 nurses who had been working at LTCHs in Korea through one-on-one interviews and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Results: It was structured and identified into 3 categories and 15 theme clusters. The emergent 3 categories were 'Long-term care hospitals nurses' attitudes towards for end-of-life care', 'End-of-life care stress', 'Coping with end-of-life care'. Conclusion: There is a need for practical and systematic education for LTCHs nurses' to positively change end-of-life care attitudes and reduce and prevent end-of-life care stress. In addition, it is suggested to operate programs that can improve coping skills or programs such as expert counseling.
