  • This paper investigates whether intra-household bargaining power affects couples' caregiving decisions during instances of competing parental demands for assistance. The primary focus is on examining how partners' bargaining power influences the relative allocation of time resources between parents and parents-in-law, assuming that children prefer to transfer caregiving resources toward their own parents over their parents-in-law. The findings in this study reject the bargaining theory that couple's parental care behavior results from a bargaining process between the husband and the wife. More specifically, the results did not clearly show that children prefer to transfer caregiving resources toward their own parents over their parents-in-law. Decision-making power, measured by final decision-making authority, also failed to affect the relative care transfers.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of wives' economic contributions and sex-role attitudes on couples' decision-making for use in family education and to improve stable couple relationships. This study targeted 286 married women who have a child or children. The main results of this study indicate that almost half of the participants showed that their couple decision-making, economic resource contributions and sex-role attitudes were husband-dominated. Additionally, the participants' most modern sex-role attitudes were toward gender stereotypes, though the most conservative attitudes were toward women and men's household lives. The variables that distinguished between husband-dominated and equality couples were age, education level, spouse's average income and resource evaluation; related, age, education level, spouse's average income, contribution toward household management and the occupational life of the woman were the variables that distinguished between husband-dominated and wife-dominated couples. This study also revealed the variables that affect couples' decision- making, demonstrating the necessity of considering several variables in the approach to the decision-making process of individual couples.

  • Despite the amount of government budget and resources used for female immigrants who married Korean spouses, it has not been evaluated yet whether the services designed for the immigrants are actually delivered to potential users with social needs. This study is an attempt to identify moderating factors associated with perceived needs and utilizing services of the Multicultural Family Support Centers. The National Survey on Multicultural Families 2015 is used for the analysis. Findings are as follows: the immigrant with better Korean communication skills would use the center services more when they have needs; the immigrants who lack skills were more likely to use center services in spite of the needs. Secondly, the more female spouses satisfied with their marriages, they were less likely to use the services; however, the moderating effect was not significant, On the other hand, Korean male spouses' patriarchal attitude was statistically significant. According to the results, practical and political implications were suggested.

This study regarded willingness to consider applying for Reverse Mortgage as an economic decision-making. The data was collected by interviewing 320 persons (over age 55) living in metropolitan areas in 2008. We selected 227 cases to find the influence of family, having both spouse and adult-children. We have used a theory of Planned Behavior by Fishbein to analysis three research questions. The results are as follows : first, the results partially explain willingness to consider applying for reverse mortgage using Fishbein's theory. Second, several results indicated that economic decision-makings within the family are influenced by several factors relating to other family member's view. They means that some of Subjective Norm variables, of Attitude Behavior ones, and of Perceived Behavior Control ones. Third, the result shows men and women respond differently to consider to applying for that policy. Men are conscious of the other people, i.e., friends, relatives except close family members, and, on the other hand, women are mindful of close family members, i.e., adult children. Forth, the group who have lower income showed higher intentions to consider that policy, when they have adult-children. Fifth, according to age group, pre-elderly group are influenced by consent of adult-children, a level of education, and on the other hand, elderly group are influenced by the other people, i.e., friends, relatives, a level of education, and so on.
