This study examines the problematic fact that most housewives are excluded from receiving the benefits of the National Pension Plan in South Korea. The National Pension Plan assigns no value to housework or household production, which in turn discourages full-time housewives from participating voluntarily in the Plan. In this article, I propose to utilize Credit Splitting and Pension Sharing in order to take into account full-time housewives' economic contribution in the National Pension Plan. In this article, I also discuss the ranges and application methods of the Credit Splitting and Pension Sharing. For this study, I have analyzed the data of 11,967 unemployed married women living with spouses published in“Research Data on Everyday Life Time Usage”by the Korea National Statistical Office in 1999. The value of the full-time housewives' labor varies depending on the methods of estimation. However, all estimated values exceed the average value assigned to the housewives by the National Pension Corporation. It is clear that full-time housewives' unpaid labor contributes a great deal to the formation of household property and wealth, which is a valid reason for Pension Sharing and Credit Splitting. This article also provides logical factors to consider in the process of Pension Sharing and Credit Splitting, which can be used for developing computerized software to determine a full-time housewives' labor value at the time of divorce or for any other purpose.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the planning styles and the differences of the level of planning styles according to individuals, family related variables and perceived adequacy of resources. The subjects of the study were 560 wives living in seoul and Daejeon. Survey methods were questionnaire. Data analysis strategies were percentile, frequency, Pearson's correlation, factor analysis, oneway analysis and multiple classification analysis. The major findings were as follows : 1) Planning styles were categorized into three factors. They were labeled resource-centered, goal-centered, constrained planning style. 2) wives tended to more frequently use a goal-centered planning style. 3) The perceived adequacy of health resource, the perceived adequacy of inter-personnal resource and occupation of husband were significant predictors of the level of resource-centered planning style. 4) The perceived adequacy of money resource was significant predictors of the level of constrained planning style. 5) The perceived adequacy of money resource and the age of youngest child were significant predictors of the level of goal-centered planning style.
The objectives of this study were; (1)to determine if socio-demographic variables influence energy conservation attitude, energy conservation knowledge, energy conservation behavior of consumer, (2) to determine if energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge influence energy conservation behavior of consumer, (3) to examine the causal relationships among variables which influence energy conservation behavior of consumer. The model for this study included following variables; (1) socio-demographic variables, which are the independent variables; (2) energy conservation behavior of consumer, which is a dependent variable; (3) energy conservation attitude of consumer, which is an intervening variable ;(4) energy conservation knowledge of consumer, which is an intervening variable. The data used in this study included 502 homemakers living in Seoul. Statistics used for data analysis were ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation and Path Analysis. The major findings were follows; (1) Energy conservation attitude and energy conservation behavior difference significantly according to the level of family income among socio-demographic variables such a age, educational level and family income. Energy conservation knowledge differenced significantly educational level, and family income. Energy conservation knowledge difference significantly educational level. The subjects included 525 children ages 4 to 7 years old. The proportion of children receiving regular meals was 77.8%. One of the primary reasons for skipping breakfast was 'no appetite'(49.9%). In terms of food habit score 20.8% of the subjects belonged to the 'good' category and children from double income families had significantly higher scores than in full-time housewives' children(p<0.01). The first consideration for meal preparation was significantly different between the two types of families : for 44.3% of the children from it was double income families it was 'favorite', while for 42.8% of full-time housewives' children it was 'nutrition'(p<0.001). Mothers' attention to food for the health of their children was the primary reason in the response 'have regular meals each day'(90.6%). Vitamin C and fat intakes were significantly different between double income families' children and in full-time housewives' children(p<0.01, p<0.05). In conclusion, double income families' children have a lower frequency for eating breakfast and lower intakes of nutrients, such as Ca, P, K, vitamin A, vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, and vitamin C than full-time housewives' ones.
Apartment houses are repidly being assimialated into the Korean lifestyle. Little study of space utilization and specificially built-in storage needs has been implemented into design of these apartment units. The purposes of this study were, first, to ascertain attitudes of a select group of Korean housewives(N=250) living in apartments in Seoul toward closets and built-in storage units, and second, to determine the acceptability of proposed alternative plans which include built-in storage facilities by Korean women(N=31) living in the United States. Overall results reflect that built-in closets and storage are highly prized and additional units required in Korean apartment plans. Of the respondents, about 86% thought portable storage bought at marirage would be phased out if more storage was built into Korean apartmemts. Most Korean housewives would perceive the advantages of built-in storage units, and would prefer differentiated built-in storage units to undifferentiat d ones. Yet attitudes were equally split on the aesthetic value of the elimination of the portable storage. Five Korean apartment plans were drawn to scale then altered through the incorporation of additional built-in storage. These altered plans all received greater then 83% preferences to the existing Korean apartment plans. Additional study needs to be undertaken to address the implementation of additional storage in existing units as well as impact the current space planning concepts related to more built-in storage. Consideration needs to be given to the concerns related to aesthetic value of portable units as part of the study process.
The study was designed to examine the present state of the provider-role consciousness of married working women in Korea and to identify five variable-clusters which were drawn from the theoretical perspectives. The subjects of this study were 573 married working women whose husbands also had their work. The statistical methods adopted for data analyses were frequencies. oneway ANOVA. Scheffe-test t-test, and multiple regression analysis. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows; 1) The level of the provider-role consciousness of married working women was slightly high. 2) As for the aspects of the individual attribute variables. educational level job income age native area motive of work. and sex-role identity significantly influenced the provider-role consciousness of married working women. 3) Concerning the family background variables marriage duration number of children mother's experience of employment father's educational level and husbands's income were significantly related to the provider-role consciousness of married working women, 4) As for the social relationship variables. degree of participation in social associations significant others' attitudes toward housewife's work degree of domestic role sharing with husband and wife/husband income ration significantly affected the provider-role conscious-ness of married working women. Based on these findings it came to be revealed that multidirectional perspecitves were useful to identify variables which could predict the provider-role consciousness of married working women, Also it was revealed that the significant others' approvals for women's work were necessary to the establishment of the provider-role consciousness of married working women.
