  • Having started with "Space War", the first game produced by MIT in the 1960's, the gaming industry expanded rapidly and grew to a large size over a short period of time: the brand new games being launched on the market are found to contain many different elements making up a single content in that it is often called the 'the most comprehensive ultimate fruits' of the design technologies. This also translates into a large increase in the number of things which need to be considered in developing games, complicating the plans on the financial budget, the work force, and the time to be committed. Therefore, an approach for analyzing the elements which make up a game, computing the importance of each of them, and assessing those games to be developed in the future, is the key to a successful development of games. Many decision-making activities are often required under such a planning process. The decision-making task involves many difficulties which are outlined as follows: the multi-factor problem; the uncertainty problem impeding the elements from being "quantified" the complex multi-purpose problem for which the outcome aims confusion among decision-makers and the problem with determining the priority order of multi-stages leading to the decision-making process. In this study we plan to suggest AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) so that these problems can be worked out comprehensively, and logical and rational alternative plan can be proposed through the quantification of the "uncertain" data. The analysis was conducted by taking FPS (First Person Shooting) which is currently dominating the gaming industry, as subjects for this study. The most important consideration in conducting AHP analysis is to accurately group the elements of the subjects to be analyzed objectively, and arrange them hierarchically, and to analyze the importance through pair-wise comparison between the elements. The study is composed of 2 parts of analyzing these elements and computing the importance between them, and choosing an alternative plan. Among these this paper is particularly focused on the Delphi technique-based objective element analyzing and hierarchy of the FPS games.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate multi-view images utilizing depth map decomposition and adaptive edge smoothing. After carrying out smooth filtering based on an adaptive window size to regions of edges in the depth map, we decompose the smoothed depth map into four types of images: regular mesh, object boundary, feature point, and number-of-layer images. Then, we generate 3-D scenes from the decomposed images using a 3-D mesh triangulation technique. Finally, we extract multi-view images from the reconstructed 3-D scenes by changing the position of a virtual camera in the 3-D space. Experimental results show that our scheme generates multi-view images successfully by minimizing a rubber-sheet problem using edge smoothing, and renders consecutive 3-D scenes in real time through information decomposition of depth maps. In addition, the proposed scheme can be used for 3-D applications that need the depth information, such as depth keying, since we can preserve the depth data unlike the previous unsymmetric filtering method.

  • The Hanon volcano located in the southern pan of Cheju Island, Korea has a wetland in its crater being used as a farmland. Previous researchers presumed this wetland was a maar lake in the past. Based on the seismic refraction method, the wetland sediment layer was estimated between 5 to 14 m deep, which is mostly in accordance with previous researches. However, this shows only the depths at some sites, not representing the whole spatial distribution. This study is an attempt to reconstruct the volcanic lake in Hanon crater by applying the spatial statistical techniques based on the depth information from the seismic survey and known data. The procedure of reconstruction is as follows: First, the depth information from the seismic survey and known data were collected and it was interpolated by IDW and Ordinary Kriging method. Next, with the interpolation map and the present DEM the paleo DEM was constructed. Finally, using the paleo lake level on core data, the boundary of volcanic lake was extracted from the paleo DEM. The reconstructed lake resembles a half-moon in the north of the central scoria cone. It is estimated that the lake was 5 m deep on average and 13 m deep at the deepest point. Although there are slight differences according to the interpolation techniques, it is calculated that the area of the lake was between 184,000 and $190000m^2,$ and its volume approximately $869,760m^3$. Because of the continuous deposition processes after the crater formation, the reconstructed volcanic lake would not indicate an actual lake at a specific time. Nevertheless, it offers a significant clue regarding the inner morphology and evolution of the crater.

  • A statistical approach is used to investigate the relative economic advantages of pressurized water reactor (PWR) and pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR-CANDU) nuclear power plants for hypothetical 900Mwe systems with the throwaway fuel cycle to be built in the Republic of Korea. Power cost is decomposed into the cost components related to the plant capital, operation and maintenance, working capital requirements and fuel cycle operation. The calculation of construction cost is performed with the modified version of computer code ORCOST, and the modified POWERCO-50 is used to evaluate the cost components. Most of economic parameters are treated as statistical variables, each being given with a certain range. Through a random sampling procedures. the probability histograms on unit plant construction costs and power generating costs are obtained. The power cost probability histograms of the PWR and the PHWR plants overlap considerably, and the power costs of two systems appear to be almost same with the PHWR power cost being 0.4mil1/kwh lower compared with 39.4 mills/kwh for the PWR plant (July 1986 US-dollars). When a construction period of PHWR plant is longer by one year than that of PWR plant, there is no difference in the unit power cost of two plants. This comparison leads to no definite conclusion on the cost advantage of the PWR plant versus the PHWR plant. We conclude that the selection issue of nuclear power plants in Korea still remains an open question and that future effort to solve this question should be made toward economic quantification of those factors such as technology transfer and localization.

  • Cursive characters are written on an economical principle to reduce the motion of a pen in the limit of distinction between characters. That is, the pen is not lifted up to move for writing a next stroke, the pen is not moved at all, or connected two strokes chance their shapes to a similar and simple shape which is easy to be written. For these reasons, strokes and korean alphabets are not only easy to be changed, but also difficult to be splitted. In this paper, we propose a curvature stroke modeling method for splitting and matching by using a structural primitive. A curvature stroke is defined as a substroke which does not change its curvanture. Input strokes handwritten in a cursive style are splitted into a sequence of curvature strokes by segmenting the points which change the direction of rotation, which occur a sudden change of direction, and which occur an excessive rotation Each reference of korean alphabets is handwritten in a printed style and is saved as a sequence of curvature strikes which is generated by splitting process. And merging process is used to generate various sequences of curvature strikes for matching. Here, it is also considered that imaginary strokes can be written or omitted. By using a curvature stroke as a unit of recognition, redundant splitting points in input characters are effectively reduced and exact matching is possible by generating a reference curvature stroke, which consists of the parts of adjacent two korean alphasbets, even when the connecting points between korean alphabets are not splitted. The results showed 83.6% as recognition rate of the first candidate and 0.99sec./character (CPU clock:66MHz) as processing time.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate pre-parenthood education program(PPEP) based on Home Economics(HE) subject for high school students. The development and evaluation of PPEP based on HE subject in this study followed ADDIE model except implementation through 4 processes such as analysis, design, development, and evaluation. First, program development directions were set in three aspects such as 'general development', 'contents', and 'teaching and learning methods'. Themes of the program are 11 in total such as '1. Parenting, what is being a parent', '2. Choosing your spouse, happy marital relationship, the best gift to your children', '3. Pregnancy and birth, a moving meeting with a new life', '4. Taking care of a new born infant for 24 hours', '5. Taking care of infants, relationship with my lovely baby, attachment', '6. Taking care of young children, my child from another planet', '7. Parents and children in healthy family', '8. Parent-child relationship, wise parents to make effective interaction with their children', '9. Parents safety manager at home,', '10. Practice to take care of infants', and '11. Practice of community nurturing support service development'. In particular, learning activities of the program have major characteristics such as 1) utilization of cases including practice problems related to parenting, 2) community exchange activities utilizing learned knowledge and techniques, 3) actual life project activities utilizing learning contents related with parenting, 4) activities inducing positive changes in current life of high school students, and 5) practice activities for the necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter supporting development of children. Second, the program was developed according to the design. Teaching-learning plans and materials for 17 classes were developed according to 11 themes. The developed plans include class flow and teacher's reference. It starts with receiving a class-related message from a virtual child at the introduction stage and ended with replying to the message by summarizing contents of the class and making a promise as a parent-to-be. That is the basic frame of class flow. Learning materials included various plans and reports necessary for learning activities and they are prepared in details so that they can be play the role of textbooks in regular curriculum. Third, evaluation of developed program was executed by a 5 point Likert scale survey on 13 HE experts on two aspects of program development process and program development results. In the evaluation of development process, mean value was 4.61 and index of content validity was 97.4%. For development results, mean value was 4.37 and index of content validity was 86.9%. These values showed that validity in the development process and results in this study was highly secured and confirmed that PPEP based on HE was appropriate and valid to enhance parent qualifications of high school learners.
