Mobile Phone Use Pattern and Visual Display Terminal Syndrome Symptom Experience in Female Adolescents (여자 청소년들의 휴대전화 사용행태와 컴퓨터단말기증후군 증상경험)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relation between mobile phone use and visual display terminal syndrome symptom experience in female students from middle school and high school. The convenience sample consisted of 349 female students in four schools. The data were collected from May to June in 2013 using VDTS Subjective Symptom Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the data using SPSS 21.0. Almost all (96.3%) female students use mobile phone. Among them, 87.7% of the subjects experienced more than one VDTS symptom and the average score was $.39{\pm}.41$ in VDTS symptom experience. Eye related symptom was most experienced and musculoskeletal symptom was the highest in severity among five subdomain of VDTS symptoms. There were significant differences in VDTS symptom scores in accordance with posture, hours of use, and break type during mobile phone use. These findings suggest that the education program for adolescents would be necessary, and the development of checklist would be useful for adolescents to check themselves.

Self-care, Self-efficacy and Social Support of Patients Receiving Radioactive Iodine Therapy (방사성요오드 치료 환자의 자가간호와 자기효능감 및 사회적지지)

  • This study presents a descriptive research on the degree of self-care related to the prevention of radiation exposure after radioactive iodine therapy and on the relations between self-efficacy and social support to propose nursing interventions required for patients after radioactive iodine therapy. The research period lasted from March to May, 2013. The subjects included 108 patients that were receiving radioactive iodine therapy after thyroidectomy at a cancer hospital in Gyeonggi Province. The subjects scored mean 52.10 on self-care out of full 56 and as for the general characteristics of the subjects, there were significant differences in their self-care according to whether they had a child or not(t=-2.312, p=.023) and interest in health(t=5.689, p<.001). There were significant positive correlations between their self-care and their self-efficacy(r=.610, p<.001), family support(r=.646, p<.001), and medical staff support(r=.276, p=.004). Interest in health(t=5.301, p<.001) was predictor on level 1 of hierarchical regression and interest in health(t=2.140, p=.035) and family support(t=3.353, p=.001) turned out to influence the self-care of the subjects, recording total 46.3% explanatory power. The most important predictor was interest in health(${\beta}$=1.309, p=.035) of self-care.

Effects of Support from Spouse and Family on the Mental Health of Marriage Immigrant Women (결혼이주여성의 배우자지지, 가족지지가 정신건강에 미치는 영향)

  • By identifying the effects of support from spouse and family on the mental health of marriage immigrant women, this study was proposed in obtaining basic data for a mental health intervention program. This study is a descriptive correlation study conducted on 129 marriage immigrant women as subjects. The result of the study showed differences in the following: for anxiety, depending on their country of origin, length of marriage, family structure, marriage structure, visit back home, and Korean language skill; for depression, depending on their spouse's education level, providing financial support for family back home, and Korean language skill; for somatization disorder, depending on their spouses' education level, area of residence, and occupation. Also, anxiety and depression showed a negative correlation with support from spouse and family, and somatization disorder showed a negative correlation with support from family. The main variable for mental health was support from family; for anxiety, the main variables were country of origin, length of marriage, and marriage structure; for somatization disorder, the main variables were spouse's education level, area or residence, and occupation. Based on the results of this study, a variety of mental health programs helpful for immigrant women in adapting to their multi-faceted and complex life in a different culture and nursing interventions for improving support from family would need to be developed.

Effect of Self-differentiation and Self-esteem on School Adjustment among Adolescents (청소년의 자아분화 수준 및 자아존중감이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of self-differentiation, self-esteem and school adjustment among adolescents. Methods: The data were collected from 508 adolescents and analyzed using n (%), t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression with the SPSS 16.0program. Results: First, School adjustment was different for grade, gender, level of mother's education, and economics level. Second, Subjects of self-differentiation was the average score 102 points, self-esteem average score 27.3 points and school adjustment average score 63.6 points.. Third, Self-differentiation and self-esteem had a significant positive correlation with school adjustment. Fourth, Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that family regression, emotional cutoff, recognition emotional function and family projection in self-differentiation, self-esteem and gender(female), level of mother's education(above university), and grade(high) explained 46.5% of the total variance in school adjustment. Conclusion: Self-differentiation and self-esteem were confirmed as having an influence on school adjustment. We need to develop a nursing intervention program that can manage adolescent's school adjustment. When providing such programs, the family must be included.

Effects of Maum Meditation Training on Mental Health according to the Length of the Training Period (마음수련명상의 지속기간에 따른 정신건강의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of short-term Maum Meditation and to compare effects according to the length of the training period on mental health of teachers. In this research, 2 types of design were used which were one-group pre-posttest design and descriptive study. In short-term Maum Meditation group, 2 times of surveys were carried out, 75 teachers in the faculty training filled out the structured questionnaire. In Long-term Maum Meditation group, 101 teachers who were attending Maum Meditation above one-year filled out the structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 14.0 program. The results showed that there was a significant difference in mental health including 9 subscales for short-term Maum Meditation group. Also, in long-term Maum Meditation group, there were significant differences in mental health excepting paranoid ideation. It was founded that Maum Meditation is the way for the mental health promotion in short-term and long-term period. So it is necessary to develop program according to training period for not only clinical application but also to strengthen coping ability for stress.

Factors Influencing Nursing Students' Intention of Childbirth (간호대학생의 출산의지에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study investigated how the awareness about marriage, the value of children, and the motivation for childrearing influences childbirth will in nursing students. The data was collected from May 1 to May 30, 2019, and 248 data samples were finally used for analysis. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS /WIN 22.0 program. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and multiple regression analysis were all calculated. The average of awareness about marriage was 3.39±.38, the average of the value of children was 2.72±0.39, the average motivation of childrearing was 2.73±0.78 and the average of childbirth will was 3.12±0.48. The childbirth will according to the general characteristics, was significantly different according to age (F=6.002, p=.003). Among the awareness about marriage, conservative view on marriage(r=.207, p=.001), active view on marriage(r=.226, p<.001), instrumental view on marriage(r=.181, p=.004), and motivation of childrearing(r=.283, p<.001) showed positive correlation ed with childbirth will. Childbirth will was negatively correlated with passive view on marriage (r=-.292, p<.001), and the value of children (r=-.226, p<.001). The factors affecting childbirth will of the study subjects were age(β=.155, p=.007), passive view on marriage(β=-.383, p<.001), motivation of childrearing (β=.315, p<.001), and the explanatory power was 23.6%. According to this study, it is necessary to confirm the effects of developing an intervention program and applying this program to improve the decisions of nursing students concerning marriage and having children.

The Effect of Stress and Sense of Coherence on Health Behavior Compliance in Outpatients with Stroke (뇌졸중 환자의 스트레스와 통합성이 건강행위 이행에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of stress and sense of coherence on health behavior compliance in patients with stroke. The subjects were 124 outpatients with stroke at a general hospital in Ulsan from May to July, 2019. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression analysis by using SPSS 25.0. In the results, the health behavior compliance showed a significantly positive correlation with sense of coherence(r=.71, p<.001) and a negative correlation with stress(r=-.53, p<.001). The predictors of model 1 were gender(t=4.07, p<.001), education level(t=4.18, p<.001), and monthly income(t=-2.34, p=.021) and the statistical power was 39.6%. The predictors of model 2 were gender(t=4.65, p<.001), education level(t=43.24, p<.001), and sense of coherence(t=4.33, p<.001) and the statistical power was 60.4%. Thus, a nursing intervention program which is focused on a sense of coherence could promote health behavior compliance in patients with stroke.

Effects of Communication Style with Parents Perceived by Female College Students on Smartphone Addiction and Depression (여대생이 지각한 부모와의 의사소통 유형이 스마트폰 중독과 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of parent-child communication style on smartphone addiction and depression among female college students. The subjects were 151 female students in three different universities located in S city. Data collection for Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory (PACI), Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale, and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) were conducted from November 1 to December 8, 2017. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Smartphone addiction in college students was 35.08 (SD = 6.83), and when communication with the mother was absent and the problem recognized, smartphone addiction was higher (${\beta}=.27$, p = .028). Open communication with the father lowered smartphone addiction (${\beta}=-.27$, p = .030). Depression in female college students was 15.86 (SD = 10.45), and 45% experienced depression. Depression was higher when communication with the mother was higher (${\beta}=.29$, p = .022). Therefore, a customized communication program that focuses on parent-child communication as a strategy to reduce or prevent degree of addiction and depression of female college students will be helpful.

Factors Influencing Maternal Attachment to Infant-Toddler -Focusing on Infant-Toddler and Maternal Characteristics, Social Support and Mother-Child Interaction- (어머니의 영유아에 대한 애착에 영향을 미치는 요인 -영유아와 어머니의 특성, 사회적 지지, 모아상호작용을 중심으로-)

  • This study was conducted to examine the influence of personal characteristics of infant-toddler and mother, social support and mother-child interaction on mother-child attachment. A descriptive study was implemented, and data were gathered from March 1 to September 30, 2016. The subjects were 215 mothers whose children were in infancy or toddlers. A survey was conducted with self-administered questionnaires regarding general characteristics, social support, mother-child interaction and attachment. SPSS 24.0 was used for descriptive statistics, intergroup comparisons of average scores, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Statistically significant differences in average attachment scores according to gender (t=3.200, p<0.002), age (t=4.037, p<0.001) and temperament (F=4.614, p<0.011) were observed among the characteristics of infant-toddlers, as well as according to age (F=18.028, p<0.001) and academic credentials (F=4.241, p<0.016) among the characteristics of mother. Attachment was correlated with social support (r=0.507, p<0.001) and with mother-child interaction (r=0.571, p<0.001). The factors that affected attachment were mother-child interaction (${\beta}=0.361$, p<0.001), social support (${\beta}=0.309$, p<0.001), age (under the age of 30)(${\beta}=-0.370$, p<0.001) and marriage duration (less than 10 years)(${\beta}=-0.179$, p<0.033). Overall, the results indicate that interaction programs that bolster social support and mother-child interactions that exert a crucial influence on attachment should be developed.

The Influences of College Adaptation, Satisfaction of Major and Clinical Practice on Vocational Identity in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 대학생활적응, 전공만족도, 임상실습만족도가 간호사로서의 직업정체성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate levels of vocational identity, adaptation in a nursing school, and nursing student satisfaction with major and clinical practice, to examine their interrelationships, and to investigate predictors affecting the vocational identity of nursing students. The participants were 335 nursing students in D city who were surveyed from October to December 2016 using a self-report questionnaire. The data from 317 participants (response rate 94.6%) were analyzed. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between college adaptation, satisfaction with major, satisfaction with clinical practice, and vocational identity. In the multiple regression analysis, college adaptation, satisfaction with major, and satisfaction with clinical practice were factors significantly associated with the vocational identity. These three factors explained 50.6% of the vocational identity of nursing students. Due to the high turnover rate among new nurses, it is critical that nursing students have a vocational identity as nurses. In order to improve vocational identity, nurse educators should consider helping students to adapt to nursing college, and to become satisfied with major and clinical practice.
