  • Purpose: The aims of this study is to analysis the effects of obesity management programs for children and to measure the differences in the effects by type and dependent variables in order to analyze the structures of the programs. Methods: Sixty-one peer-reviewed journals including child obesity and intervention studies published between 2000 and 2010 were included for meta-analysis. Effect size and statistics of homogeneity were by STAT 10.0. Results: A total of 61 studies were used in the analysis, and the effect size of the independent studies was determined to be -0.23 (95% CI, -0.32 ~ -0.15). Serum Leptin and Insulin were the big effect size among the studies that used dependent variables. The theses used in the research did not display publishing bias. Conclusion: Obesity management programs that have been confirmed to be effective need to be developed into regional protocols. A continuous control of obese children and research for effective intervention program are in need.

The factors related to multicultural attitude were the experiences of having foreigner friends, going abroad, attending multicultural events, and contacting multicultural contents. The students who have cared foreign patients were not higher than others in nursing students group(t=.30, p=.76). For nursing students contacting foreigners in clinical practice, it doesn't make a differnce in multicultural attitude. The culturally empowering programs were needed for nursing students to improve multicultural attitudes.

  • This study is to reclassify the classifications or definitions of scientific literacy in scientific literacy researches since 1960s and grasp the classification trends of scientific literacy definitions. Sixteen articles have been selected among the articles that have been introduced in the two articles. Classification criteria are as follows: 1) "be learned," "competence," or "be able to function in society" as meanings of "literate," 2) "terms" or "description" as the ways of representing scientific literacy, 3) "singular structure," "hierarchical structure," or "parallel structure" as the inner structure of scientific literacy definitions. The results of this study are as follows: First, hierarchical structures in scientific literacy have almost always accompanied "terms" representing scientific literacy and also accepted the hierarchy between "be learned" and "competence," but not the definition of scientific literacy as functioning in society. All parallel structures in scientific literacy have accompanied the definition as functioning in society. And singular structure almost always appears in researches based on the views of scientific literacy in relatively recent times. Second, researches who have used "terms" as ways of representing scientific literacy have increased. Based on the results in this study, the meanings of scientific literacy have been emphasized in view of the ability of playing a role in a social context as well as learning and competence these days. To meet this movement in scientific literacy actively, science education community should get out of traditional teaching and learning scientific concepts and give emphasis on application in various context and social role of science learners.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the stress factors experienced by science teachers and stress related to science teaching. To do these, I have developed the Science Teacher Stress Inventory, which consisted of 50 stress factors with subcategories such as student characteristics, teacher characteristics, school environment, administrative procedures, and conditions of service. 104 science teachers have participated in this questionnaire survey. Additionally, I got 109 stress cases related to science teaching from surveys of 25 science teachers. Results are as follows: first, stress from students characteristic and administrative procedures are perceived as having more stress factors than teacher characteristics, school environment, and conditions of service. Second, stress in affective domains such as students' low motivation in science and insincere class attitude is perceived as having more stress factors than stress in cognitive domain. Third, female science teachers are significantly more stressed than male science teachers. Fourth, students' low motivation and low understanding in science learning are the most stressful factors in stress related to science teaching. Fifth, science teachers feel more stress in evaluation such as experiment test and joint-set exam questions.

  • The purpose of this study was a descriptive research that identified the levels of health-promoting behaviors, previous related behavior, perceived benefits/barriers, self-efficacy, and social support. In addition, it was to establish the relations among the variables, and determine the factors affecting the health-promoting behaviors. Study participants were 311 middle aged between 55-64 in urban areas, and the data were collected through self-reported structured questionnair. According to the results, the mean score for the levels of health-promoting behaviors of the late middle aged was 2.64. Also, among the variables related to health-promoting behaviors, perceived benefits were the highest score (30.7), and perceived barriers were the lowest one (2.08). Meaningful positive correlations were found among health-promoting behaviors and previous related behavior, social support, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy, but perceived barriers showed weakly negative correlations. In addition, the factors affecting health promoting behaviors were revealed in order as following: Previous health related behavior(${\beta}$=.35, p<.001), perceived benefits(${\beta}$=.32, p<.001), social support(${\beta}$=.28, p<.001), and life satisfaction(${\beta}$=.13, p<.001), and this model's explanatory power was 68.8%(F=166.71, p<.001). Based on the findings from the study, in order for the late middle aged to have a well-being old age, an health promoting education program including exercises and stress management should be provided to maintain and improve proper health promoting behaviors. The network with the same age groups also should be supported to share useful information and back up one another.

  • This study aimed to survey the impact of smartphone overuse on upper extremity pain, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships among college students. Subjects completed a structured questionnaire consisting of the Smartphone Addiction Inventory, the Musculoskeletal Symptom Checklist, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Beck Depression Inventory-II, and the Relationship Change Scale from May to June 2012. We analyzed the survey data from 525 responses, excluding unreturned or incomplete surveys. Data were analyzed using the $x^2$ test and t-test to determine the differences in smartphone overuse and its impact on upper extremity pain, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships between two groups: the overuse and normal use groups. Moreover, Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to examine the correlation between smartphone overuse and upper extremity pain, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships. The results placed 62 people (11.8%) in the smartphone overuse group. The extent of smartphone overuse was more severe among female than male college students, and longer time spent using smartphones per day was directly related to smartphone overuse. The smartphone overuse group evidenced higher shoulder pain than the normal use group did, but no differences were found in other sites of the upper extremities. State anxiety, trait anxiety, and depression were higher in the smartphone overuse group than in the normal use group. Subjects with a higher extent of smartphone overuse experienced increased state-anxiety, trait-anxiety, and depression. Moreover, subjects with higher state-anxiety, trait-anxiety, and depression scores were more likely to have poor interpersonal relationships. Therefore, early screening for smartphone overuse should be evaluated, because it can be useful in developing addiction prevention programs to improve posture, stress coping, positive mental health, and effective interpersonal relationships.

  • This study is a descriptive research study to grasp the critical thinking tendency, clinical practice stress, core basic nursing confidence, and degree of adaptation to clinical practice in nursing students. From June to July 2019, 207 students in the fourth year of nursing college were surveyed through their own questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN v24.0. The negative correlation between clinical practice stress and critical thinking tendency(r=-.18, p=.010). The core self-confidence practice self-confidence showed a positive correlation with critical thinking tendency(r=.25, p<.001), and a negative correlation with clinical practice stress(r=-.17, p=.017). Adaptation to clinical practice showed a positive correlation with clinical practice stress(r=.44, p<.001), and the factor influencing clinical practice adaptation was stress(β=.40) (F=18.34, p<.001), and the explanatory power was about 23.1%. As mentioned above, stress brings a positive change to clinical practice, so it is necessary to identify stress factors received from clinical practice of nursing college students and reflect them in curriculum development.
