  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of alcohol use, depression, and self-esteem on suicidal ideation of older adults. Community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years and older were recruited from three welfare centers. A total of 245 older adults was assessed with the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test-Korean (AUDIT-K), Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form-Korea Version (GDSSF-K), Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI). Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Higher depression, lower self-esteem, no religion, and poorly perceived health were statistically significant determinants of higher level of suicidal ideation in older adults. To prevent or reduce suicidal ideation of older adults, health care providers should consider the determinants identified in this study.

The experimental group participated in the program for 8 sessions for 8 weeks. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test, independent t-test, repeated measures ANCOVA with SPSS 21.0 program. There were significant differences in depression (F=6.68, p=.013) and self-esteem (F=7.61, p=.009) of participants between experimental group and control group after completion of 8-session magic program. The results indicate that the magic program can be used to improve depression and self-esteem of low-income children.

Self-administered questionnaire was used that data were collected. The sample consisted of 173 nurses who worked in hemodialysis units located in three different district areas in Korea. Using SPSS/WIN 20.0, t-test, ANOVA and Scheff's analysis were performed. About 98.8% of nurses in dialysis units had received education mostly from dialysis conferences or symposium. The knowledge score for EBP was 15.77 (out of 23) on average. Subjects with more than 8 years of work experience, master degree and those working in tertiary hospital showed significantly higher scores. Despite that there are internationally acknowledge evidence based guidelines for hemodialysis, the actual adherence to guidelines varies by experience, education level and types of hospital. The data were collected using questionnaires about somatic symptoms(SS), sleep quality, stress, adaptation to college life(AC), depression. Mean score of depression was 18.89, 58.3% are experiencing depression that requires clinical treatment. The significant predictors of JNS were levels of depression AC(β=-.503, p=.000) and SS(β=.263, p=.000) respectively, explaining 58.9% of variance. In order to control the depressive symptoms of JNS, it is necessary to diagnose basic learning ability from the beginning of admission and provide guidance management plans to help students adapt to academic activities by providing customized programs for each level to improve learning ability. It is necessary to develop and apply various intervention programs to alleviate physical symptoms such as fatigue/low energy experienced by JNS.
