  • A novel driving theory on the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) pump driven by traveling electric fields without the temperature gradient is proposed. The equations of the generating pressure and the flow rate are derived. The EHD micropump is fabricated by micromachining technology and tested. The channel heights are 50$\mu\textrm{m}$, 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 200$\mu\textrm{m}$ are respectively an the channel width is 3 mm. The spacing and width of the electrodes are both 40$\mu\textrm{m}$. The maximum pressure is 70.3 Pa, 35.4 Pa and 17.2 pa at he frequency of 0.2Hz for each channel height (50$\mu\textrm{m}$, 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 200$\mu\textrm{m}$) and the maximum flow rate is 0.90x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min, 1.88x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min and 4.85x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min at the frequency of 0.4H for each channel height.

  • In this study, we collected PM10(particulate matter less than $10{\mu}m$) by using a high volume air sampler from March 2000 to September 2000 to investigate the contamination level and the distribution characteristics of heavy metals in the ambient air in Ulsan area. Samples were pretreated by the microwave extraction methods, and heaby metals (Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, Ni, As, and Pb) were quantified by using and ICP-MS system. The highest PM10 concentrations in the ambient air were $85.6{\mu}g/m^3$ and the aberage value was $37.1{\mu}g/m^3$. The maximum levels of each heavy metal were as follows: $2.5{\mu}g/m^3$ for Fe(Yeocheon-dong), $0.41{\mu}g/m^3$ for Zn(Nammok-2-dong), $0.061{\mu}g/m^3$ for Cd(Yeocheon-dong), $0.20{\mu}g/m^3$ for Pb(Yeocheon-dong), $0.037{\mu}g/m^3$ for Ni(Yeoncheon-dong), $0.88{\mu}g/m^3$ for Cu(Yaeum-dong), $0.042{\mu}g/m^3$ for Cr(Yaeum-dong), and $0.015{\mu}g/m^3$ for As(Onsan). Among concentration of heavy metals, Ni and Zn compounds were highly correlated with a correlation coefficient of 0.87 at Nammok-2-dong.

  • This study was carried out to identify the change of glycoalkaloid contents and ascorbic acid in eggplant by parts and cooking methods. Content of glycoalkaloid by part of eggplant was the most in step part(A) as $31.1{\mu}g$ but it was shown that (A) and (C) contained more solamargine($6.9{\mu}g$) than solasonine, while (B) contained more solasonine($18.4{\mu}g$) than solamargine($6.9{\mu}g$). By cooking method, content of solamargine in eggplant varied; steaming ($6.2{\mu}g$), boiling ($7.0{\mu}g$), sauteing ($2.5{\mu}g$), microwave ($2.0{\mu}g$). Control group had $11.4{\mu}g$ solamargine and it contained solamargine most among them when boiled. Content of solasonine was in order of control ($4.88{\mu}g$)>steaming($3.40{\mu}g$)>microwave($1.2{\mu}g$)>boiling($0.6{\mu}g$)>sauteing(n.d.), and steaming showed the highest figure. As for content of ascorbic acid by part of eggplant, stem part had the most. That is, content of ascorbic acid decreased as from stem part under. Content of ascorbic acid of eggplant decreased greatly by cooking manipulation like other vegetables did, and the remaining amount showed control> sauteing> microwave> boiling> steaming in order.

  • In the flip chip interconnection using solder bump, the Under Bump Metallurgy (UBM) is required to perform multiple functions in its conversion of an aluminum bond pad to a solderable surface. In this study, various UBM systems such as $Al 1\mu\textrm{m} / Ti 0.2\mu\textrm{m} / Cu 5\mu\textrm{m}, Al 1\mu\textrm{m} / Ti 0.2\mu\textrm{m} / Cu 1\mu\textrm{m}, al 1\mu\textrm{m}/Ni 0.2\mu\textrm{m} / Cu 1\mu\textrm{m} and Al 1\mu\textrm{m}/Pd 0.2\mu\textrm{m} / Cu 1\mu\textrm{m}$ for flip chip interconnection using the low melting point eutectic 63Sn-37Pb solder were investigated and compared to their metallurgical properties. $100\mu\textrm{m}$ size bumps were prepared for using an electroplating process. The effects of the number of reflows and aging time on the growth of intermetallic compounds(IMC) were investigated. $Cu_6Sn_5$ and $Cu_3Sn$ IMC were abserved after aging treatment in the UBM system with thick coper $(Al 1\mu\textrm{m}/Ti 0.2\mu\textrm{m}/Cu 5\mu\textrm{m})$. However only the $Cu_6Sn_5$ was detected in the UBM system with $1\mu\textrm{m}$ thick copper even after 2 reflow and 7 day aging at $150^{\circ}C$. Complete Cu consumption by Cu-Sn IMC growth gives rise to a direct contact between solder inner layer such as Ti, Ni and Pd, and hence to possibly cause reactions between two of them. In this study, however, only for the Pd case, IMC of PdSn. was observed by Cu consumption. UBM interfacial reactions with s이der affected the adhesion strength ot s이der balls after s이der reflow and annealing treatment.

  • In our study, we investigated the antioxidant effect of methanol extract from the leaves of Picrasma quassioides (PQ) and Chamaecyparis obtuse (S. et Z.) ENDL (CO). Total polyphenol contents of methanol extracts from PQ and CO varied from 138.3 to $367.52{\mu}g/mg$ and total flavonoid contents varied from 8.12 to $46.41{\mu}g/mg$. Contents of polyphenol and flavonoid in PQ were found to be extremely high. In addition, the methanol extract of PQ had a higher antioxidant activity in both DPPH ($4.79{\mu}g/ml$) and ABTS ($7.21{\mu}g/ml$) compared to other plants (CO). Based on the results of the FRAP assay, PQ showed a value of $8.52{\mu}mol/{\mu}g$ and CO exhibited a value of $1.77{\mu}mol/{\mu}g$. The methanol extracts from the leaves of PQ showed the highest radical-scavenging activity in various antioxidant systems.
