A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, white-coloured, rod-shaped bacteria, designated as a strain dW9T, was isolated from soil. Strain dW9T was catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Strain dW9T grew at temperature of 20-37℃ and at pH of 5.0-7.0. Phylogenetic and 16S rRNA gene analysis indicated that strain dW9T belonged to the genus Paenibacillus with its closest relative being Paenibacillus filicis S4T (97.4% sequence similarity). The genome size of dW9T was 7,787,916 bp with DNA G+C G+C content of 51.3%. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values of dW9T with its closest relatives were found to be <22.0% and <74.0%, respectively. The only respiratory quinone was MK-7, and the major fatty acids were antiso-C15:0 and iso-C16:0. Overall, the comprehensive taxonomic analysis revealed that strain dW9T met all the fundamental criteria to be classified as a novel species within the genus Paenibacillus. Accordingly, we propose the name Paenibacillus gyeongsangnamensis sp. nov., with the type strain dW9T (=KCTC 43431T =NBRC 116022T).
Case-based reasoning is a methodology for solving problems more quickly and efficiently by bringing the most similar case of a given problem from past cases and transforming it to fit the current situation. The most important performance indicator of case-based reasoning is the number of cases, so it is difficult to apply the methodology for the area which has not enough cases. In this paper, we proposed a method to exchange cases based on the Semantic Web in order to overcome the problems. Inparticular, we separated cases into sub-cases to make it possible creating new cases by combining the appropriate sub-cases even if there was no proper full case. In order to achieve that, we designed an ontology that connects a case and its sub-cases, represents detailed similarity rules that compare sub-cases, and represents the rules for the combination of sub-cases. Moreover, we designed and implemented a semantic distributed case-based reasoning framework where a case requester can request sub-cases via the Web from case providers and integrates sub-cases into a new case by using the ontology.

The negative impact of monoculture rubber plantations on biodiversity and associated ecological processes/ecosystem services has led to suggestions on the use of integrated land use systems for rubber cultivation and production in order to ensure environmental sustainability. However, there is paucity of information on the effect of such integrated land use systems on the diversity and abundance of the rubber plantation undergrowth. We evaluated and compared undergrowth plant species composition, richness, abundance, diversity and interaction, in three integrated systems (Rubber-Strelitzia reginae Integrated System - RSrIS, Rubber-Podocarpus nagi Integrated System - RPnIS & Naturally Managed Rubber Plantation - NMRP) with three Rubber Monoculture Plantations (RMP1, RMP2 & RMP3) adjacent to the integrated systems, respectively, at the Investigation and Experiment Station of Tropical Crops, Danzhou, Hainan, China. Undergrowth species density was higher in the rubber monocultures than in the integrated systems except in RSrIS. Species richness and diversity were also higher in the monocultures except in NMRP. Species similarity/interaction between the monocultures and the integrated systems was highest between RMP3 and NMRP. The NRMP proved to be the best model of natural rubber integrated system for the conservation of undergrowth species richness, diversity and interspecific interaction. However, the conservation of undergrowth species in other forms of integrated natural systems can be enhanced by considering the ecology of species to be integrated in terms of their growth characteristics, competitive nature, and ability to grow in association with other species.

A Gram-positive, non-motile, and non-spore-forming lactic acid bacterium, designated as BK2T, was isolated from kimchi, a Korean traditional fermented vegetable food, and the taxonomic characteristics of strain BK2T, along with strain LMG 11983, were analyzed. Both strains optimally grew at 30℃, pH 7.0, and 1.0% NaCl. Cells of both strains were heterofermentative and facultatively anaerobic rods, demonstrating negative reactions for catalase and oxidase. Major fatty acids (>10%) identified in both strains were C18:1 ω9c, C16:0, and summed feature 7 (comprising C19:1 ω6c and/or C19:1 ω7c). The genomic DNA G+C contents of both strains were 44.7 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (99.9%), average nucleotide identity (ANI; 99.9%), and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH; 99.7%) value between strains BK2T and LMG 11983 indicated that they are different strains of the same species. Strain BK2T was most closely related to Weissella confusa JCM 1093T and Weissella cibaria LMG 17699T, with 100% and 99.4% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, respectively. However, based on the ANI and dDDH values (92.3% and 48.1% with W. confusa, and 78.4% and 23.5% with W. cibaria), it was evident that strain BK2T represents a distinct species separate from W. confusa and W. cibaria. Based on phylogenetic, phenotypic, and chemotaxonomic features, strains BK2T and LMG 11983 represent a novel species of the genus Weissella, for which the name Weissella fermenti sp. nov. is proposed. The type of strain is BK2T (=KACC 22833T=JCM 35750T).

The similarity of hourly PM10 and PM2.5 concentration profiles of the atmospheric monitoring stations in Gyeonggi-do was evaluated through the multilateral analysis between stations. The existing category for most stations in the regions shows relatively low Pearson correlation values of 0.68 and 0.7 for PM10 and PM2.5 on average respectively, and some monitoring stations revealed high relationships over 0.8 to other regions. Since the current regions are mainly categorized by cluster analysis based on the number of occurrence of high concentration events and geological factors, it is necessary to reclassify them by concentration characteristics for precise fine dust management. In accordance, multi-dimensional scaling being able to visualize could categorize the regions based on regional emission contribution rate and hourly fine dust concentration. As a result of the current analysis, PM10 and PM2.5 could be reclassified into five regions and fourregions, respectively.
This paper describes a new algorithm for encoding spectral shape and envelope in the generic mode of G.718 super-wide band (SWB). In the G.718 SWB coder, generic mode coding and sinusoidal enhancement are used for the quantization of modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT)-based parameters in the high frequency band. In the generic mode, the high frequency band is divided into sub-bands and for every sub-band the most similar match with the selected similarity criteria is searched from the coded and envelope normalized wideband content. In order to improve the quantization scheme in high frequency region of speech/audio signals, the modified generic mode by the improvement of the generic mode in G.718 SWB is proposed. In the proposed generic mode, perceptual vector quantization of spectral envelopes and the resolution increase for spectral copy are used. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of objective quality. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm increases the quality of sounds significantly.

In mass customization, the focus is variety and customization through flexibility and quick responsiveness. Mass customizers seek to provide personalized, custom-designed products at low prices to give customers exactly what they want and to provide sufficient variety in products and services. The idea of the product family is the most adequate approach to realize mass customization. An understanding of customer needs using functional decomposition becomes necessary to enhance the performance of the product family. This paper focuses on functional architecture modeling based on customer need regarding sub-functions for the product family. A quantitative functional model captures product functionality and customer need. Based on customer need ratings and sub-function, a product-function matrix was created. Additionally, a product-product matrix was generated to provide a similarity index among product families. A case study for implementing the functional architecture modeling was performed on the single use cameras.

The customer load profile clustering method is used to make the TDLP (Typical Daily Load Profile) to estimate the quarter hourly load profile of non-AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) customers. This study examines how the repeated clustering method improves the ability to discriminate among the TDLPs of each cluster. The k-means algorithm is a well-known clustering technology in data mining. Repeated clustering groups the cluster into sub-clusters with the k-means algorithm and chooses the sub-cluster that has the maximum average error and repeats clustering until the final cluster count is satisfied.
