The aim of this study was to cross-validate a spatial probabilistic model of landslide likelihood ratios at Boun, Janghung and Yongin, in Korea, using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Landslide locations within the study areas were identified by interpreting aerial photographs, satellite images and field surveys. Maps of the topography, soil type, forest cover, lineaments and land cover were constructed from the spatial data sets. The 14 factors that influence landslide occurrence were extracted from the database and the likelihood ratio of each factor was computed. 'Landslide susceptibility maps were drawn for these three areas using likelihood ratios derived not only from the data for that area but also using the likelihood ratios calculated from each of the other two areas (nine maps in all) as a cross-check of the validity of the method For validation and cross-validation, the results of the analyses were compared, in each study area, with actual landslide locations. The validation and cross-validation of the results showed satisfactory agreement between the susceptibility map and the existing landslide locations.
Clones are sets of operations which are closed under composition and contain all projections. Identities of clones of term operations of a given algebra correspond to hyperidentities of this algebra, i.e., to identities which are satisfied after any replacements of fundamental operations by derived operations ([7]). If any identity of an algebra is satisfied as a hyperidentity, the algebra is called solid ([3]). Solid algebras correspond to free clones. These connections will be extended to so-called generalized clones, to strong hyperidentities and to strongly solid varieties. On the basis of a generalized superposition operation for terms we generalize the concept of a unitary Menger algebra of finite rank ([6]) to unitary Menger algebras with infinitely many nullary operations and prove that strong hyperidentities correspond to identities in free unitary Menger algebras with infinitely many nullary operations.

In this paper, we present the complete isotropy analysis of a caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot (COMR) with nonredundant/redundant actuation. It is desirable for robust motion control to keep a COMR close to the isotropy but away from the singularity as much as possible. First, with the characteristic length introduced, the kinematic model of a COMR is obtained based on the orthogonal decomposition of the wheel velocities. Second, a general form of the isotropy conditions of a COMR is given in terms of physically meaningful vector quantities which specify the wheel configuration. Third, for all possible nonredundant and redundant actuation sets, the algebraic expressions of the isotropy conditions are derived so as to identify the isotropic configurations of a COMR. Fourth, the number of the isotropic configurations, the isotropic characteristic length, and the optimal initial configuration are discussed.
In this paper, we present a complete isotropy analysis of a caster wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot(COMR) with nonredundant/redundant actuation. The motivation of this work is that the omnidirectional mobility loses significance in motion control unless the isotropy characteristics is maintained well. First, with the characteristic length introduced, the kinematic model of a COMR is obtained based on the orthogonal decomposition of the wheel velocities. Second, a general form of the isotropy conditions of a COMR is given in terms of physically meaningful vector quantities which describe the wheel configurations. Third, for all possible nonredundant and redundant actuation sets, the algebraic expressions of the isotropy conditions are derived to completely identify the isotropic configurations of a COMR. Fourth, the number of the isotropic configurations and the characteristic length required for the isotropy are discussed.
Purpose: Recently, Jiang defines the tradeoff B life to minimize a sum of life lost by preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) contribution parts and sets up an optimal replacement age of age replacement policy as this tradeoff life. In this paper, Jiang's model only considering the known lifetime distribution is extended by assigning different weights to two parts of PM and CM in order to reflect the practical maintenance situations in application. Methods: The new age replacement model is formulated and the meaning of a weight factor is expressed with the implied cost of failure under asymptotic expected cost model and also discussed with one-cycle expected cost criterion. Results: The proposed model is applied to Weibull and lognormal lifetime distributions and optimum PM replacement ages are derived with corresponding implied cost of failure. Conclusion: The new age replacement policy to escape the estimation of cost of failure in classical asymptotic expected cost criterion based on the renewal process is provided.

The inverse Weibull distribution (IWD) can be readily applied to a wide range of situations including applications in medicines, reliability and ecology. It is generally known that the lifetimes of test items may not be recorded exactly. In this paper, therefore, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and Bayes estimation of the entropy of a IWD under generalized progressive hybrid censoring (GPHC) scheme. It is observed that the MLE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form, so we have to solve two non-linear equations simultaneously. Further, the Bayes estimators for the entropy of IWD based on squared error loss function (SELF), precautionary loss function (PLF), and linex loss function (LLF) are derived. Since the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained in closed form, we derive the Bayes estimates by revoking the Tierney and Kadane approximate method. We carried out Monte Carlo simulations to compare the classical and Bayes estimators. In addition, two real data sets based on GPHC scheme have been also analysed for illustrative purposes.
The two typical composite operations of fuzzy relation are the max-min and the min-max composite operations. It is known that the two operations can be completely dual. This paper pays attention to the nature that these two typical operations are completely dual and investigates the correlation between the max-min composite relation equation and the min-max composite relation equation. An important scheme of correlation is in the characteristic of solution sets derived from these two fuzzy relation equations. The paper explains that one of the composite fuzzy relation equations is solvable using the solution method of the other fuzzy relation equation. The above-mentioned duality plays an important role in this solution procedure. Since it is not necessary to build the solution method separately like before, calculation efficiency can be raised. Moreover, the solution for the relation ...
In this paper the failure possibility and the error possibility are used to represent reliability of a technical component and that of a human operator, respectively. The failure possibility and the error possibility are fuzzy sets on the interval [0,1]. In a man-machine system, reliability of the technical component and that of the human operator are usually affected by many factors, e.g., the environment in which a machine is operated, psychological stress of the human operator, etc. The possibility is derived from not only the failure or the error rate but also estimates of these factors. The fuzzy reasoning plays an important role in the derivation. The reliability analysis is performed by the use of the possibility obtained by the present method. Moreover this paper discusses the sensitivity analysis which evaluates what extent the change of the estimation of each factor has an influence on reliability of a man-machine system. The important factors to be ameliorated are shown through the sensitivity analysis.
The purpose of this study is to examine the different purchasing behaviors of natural dyes according to the personal value orientation of the consumers in question. In addition, this study sets out the purchasing behaviors according to demographic variables. To collect data, this study surveyed 150 housewives living in Daegu in November 2003 using convenient sampling. SPSS 10.0 was used for the statistical analysis of the sampled data including basic statistics, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results derived from this study are as follows : 1) The group that exhibited a more self-controlled value orientation prefers to purchase natural dyes. 2) Consumers with relatively high education backgrounds and in an older age group have preference in purchasing natural dyes.
The vibration analysis of an axially moving membrane are investigated when the membrane has the two sets of in-plane boundary conditions, which are free and fixed constraints in the lateral direction. Since the in-plane stiffness is much higher than the out-of-plane stiffness, it is assumed during deriving the equations of motion that the in-plane motion is in a steady state. Under this assumption. the equation of out-of\ulcornerplane motion is derived, which is a linear partial differential equation influenced by the in-plane stress distributions. After discretizing the equation by using the Galerkin method, the natural frequencies and mode shapes are computed. In particular, we put a focus on analyzing the effects of the in-plane boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the moving membrane.
