This study developed a big data-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) program using WWT (World Wide Telescope), focusing on content elements of 'solar system', 'star and universe' in the 2015 revised science curriculum, and in order to find out the effectiveness of the STEAM program, analyzed creative problem solving, STEAM attitude, and STEAM satisfaction by applying it to one middle school 176 students simple random sampled. The results of this study are as follows. First, we developed a program to encourage students to actively and voluntarily participating, utilizing the astronomical data platform WWT. Second, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the creative problem solving measurement test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'idea adaptation', 'imaging', 'analogy', 'idea production' and 'elaboration' sub-factors except 'attention task' sub-factor (p < .05). Third, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the STEAM attitude test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'interest', 'communication', 'self-concept', 'self-efficacy' and 'science and engineering career choice' sub-factors except 'consideration' and 'usefulness / value recognition' sub-factors (p < .05). Fourth, in the STEAM satisfaction test conducted after class application, the average values of sub-factors were 3.16~3.90. The results indicated that students' understanding and interest in the science subject improved significantly through the big data-based STEAM program using the WWT.

Type I Interferons (IFNα) are known for their role as biological anticancer agents owing to their cell-apoptosis inducing properties. Development of an appropriate, cost-effective host expression system is crucial for meeting the increasing demand for proteins. Therefore, this study aims to develop codon-optimized IFNα-2b in L. lactis NZ3900. These cells express extracellular protein using the NICE system and Usp45 signal peptide. To validate the mature form of the expressed protein, the recombinant IFNα-2b was screened in a human colorectal cancer cell line using the cytotoxicity assay. The IFNα-2b was successfully cloned into the pNZ8148 vector, thereby generating recombinant L. lactis pNZ8148-SPUsp45-IFNα-2b. The computational analysis of codon-optimized IFNα-2b revealed no mutation and amino acid changes; additionally, the codon-optimized IFNα-2b showed 100% similarity with native human IFNα-2b, in the BLAST analysis. The partial size exclusion chromatography (SEC) of extracellular protein yielded a 19 kDa protein, which was further confirmed by its positive binding to anti-IFNα-2b in the western blot analysis. The crude protein and SEC-purified partial fraction showed IC50 values of 33.22 ㎍/ml and 127.2 ㎍/ml, respectively, which indicated better activity than the metabolites of L. lactis NZ3900 (231.8 ㎍/ml). These values were also comparable with those of the regular anticancer drug tamoxifen (105.5 ㎍/ml). These results demonstrated L. lactis as a promising host system that functions by utilizing the pNZ8148 NICE system. Meanwhile, codon-optimized usage of the inserted gene increased the optimal protein expression levels, which could be beneficial for its large-scale production. Taken together, the recombinant L. lactis IFNα-2b is a potential alternative treatment for colorectal cancer. Furthermore, its activity was analyzed in the WiDr cell line, to assess its colorectal anticancer activities in vivo.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of insured herbal extracts and Korean medicinal treatments, which are mainly used to treat allergic rhinitis in Korean medicine. Methods : Among all HIRA(Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service) claims data in 2016, we included all statements that included J30(vasomotor and allergic rhinitis) or a subcategory of J30(J30.0, J30.1, J30.2, J30.3, or J30.4) as the main disease, using the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases(KCD-7). This study analyzed the most frequently used insured herbal extracts and Korean medicinal treatments for allergic rhinitis in Korean medicine. We performed a frequency analysis on subgroups based on treatment type(inpatient or outpatient), sex, age, insurance type, and medical institution type. Results : The result shows the 10 most frequently used insured herbal extracts and Korean medicinal treatments for allergic rhinitis. The total number of insured herbal extracts prescriptions was 82,533, and the most commonly prescribed insured herbal extracts was socheongryong-tang(35,131 prescriptions), followed by hyeonggaeyeongyo-tang(18,157 prescriptions), samsoeum(6,257 prescriptions), and galgeun-tang(4,465 prescriptions). The total number of Korean medicinal treatments prescriptions was 1,878,541, of which the most common Korean medicinal treatments was acupuncture(922,977 prescriptions), followed by moxibustion(372,120 prescriptions), cupping(242,094 prescriptions), and segmental acupuncture(161,553 prescriptions). Conclusions : It is expected that the results of this study can be used as a basis for establishing the priorities of evidence-based clinical research topics in the field of Korean medicine and making health care policy decisions to strengthen coverage in the future.
The study explored how two elementary school teachers perceived computational thinking, reflected them into curriculum revision, and taught them in the classroom during longitudinal professional developed program (PDP) for nine months. Computational thinking is a new direction in educational policy-making including science education; therefore we planned to investigate participating teachers' perception of computational thinking to provide their fundamental understandings. Nine meetings, lasting about two hours each, were held with the participating teachers and they developed 11 lesson plans for one unit each, as they formed new understandings about computational thinking. Data were collected through PDP program while two teachers started perceiving computational thinking, revising their curriculum, and implementing it into their class for nine months. The results were as follows; first, elementary school teachers' perception of computational thinking was that the definition of scientific literacy as the purpose of science education was extended, i.e., it refers to scientific literacy to prepare students to be creative problem solvers. Second, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) lessons were divided into two stages; concept formation stage where scientific thinking is emphasized, and concept application, where computational thinking is emphasized. Thirdly, computational thinking is a cognitive thinking process, and ICT (informational and communications technology) is a functional tool. Fourth, computational thinking components appear repeatedly and may not be sequential. Finally, STEAM education can be improved by utilizing computational thinking. Based on this study, we imply that STEAM education can be activated by computational thinking when teachers are equipped with competencies of understanding and implementing computational thinking within the systematic PDPs, which is very essential for newly policies.

In this paper, we propose the positive effects of Virtual Reality(VR) sports classes and the foundation for VR sports to become the basis of lifelong sports education through the application of physical education classes in sports virtual reality programs are to be provided. For this purpose, the effect of VR sports experience on sports satisfaction, sports immersion, and sports attitude factors was investigated for 281 elementary school students in Busan. Results It was found that VR sports experience had a significant effect on sports satisfaction, sports satisfaction had a significant effect on sports immersion and sports attitude, and sports immersion had a significant effect on sports attitude. The great advantage of sports virtual reality is that sports activities for items that are difficult to deal with in physical education classes and unpopular items will be easily performed. In addition, by using a program that links physical education classes with English and mathematics, physical education will be recognized as a convergence subject by elementary school students, and at the same time, it will become an integrated subject that can acquire fun elements and learning elements at the same time through play or games.
This study analyzed the introduction of addition and subtraction, including the composition and decomposition of numbers in the Korean, Singaporean, American, and Japanese elementary mathematics textbooks. The analytic foci of this study included visual models and their connections with the given problem contexts, the introduction of addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences and their connections with the visual models, and additional activities for students to develop a relational understanding of the equal sign. The results of the analysis demonstrated diverse connections, mainly because the problem contexts, visual models, and the introduction of addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences were implemented differently for each textbook. There were differences among the textbooks in what order of problem contexts were presented. Regarding the use of visual models, two textbooks tended to use one model consistently, whereas the other textbooks used various models depending on the problem contexts. There were subtle but significant differences in introducing addition/subtraction or addition/subtraction sentences. For a relational understanding of the equal sign, all textbooks included activities emphasizing that both sides of the equal sign are equal. Based on the results of this study, this paper closes with several implications related to the problem contexts to introduce addition/subtraction and addition/subtraction sentences as well as the use of visual models, which can serve as a basis for a new unit for the subsequent textbook.
This study was related to the cases in which pre-service elementary teachers designed math lessons tailored to math underachievers with learning trajectories and universal design for learning. Learning trajectories can be a basis to identify students' current state of understanding and development, and make a lesson plan responsively tailored to underachievers' state. And universal design for learning is a framework that removes potential barriers that may exist in math lessons from the time the lessons are planned, and guides the rich learning environment accessible to all learners. In order to provide an experience of designing math lessons considering the characteristics of math underachievers, this study required pre-service elementary teachers to create learning trajectories and make lesson plans with the principles of universal design for learning. The characteristics of the learning trajectories shown in the lesson plans and the results of applying the principles of universal design for learning were analyzed. By discussing the results, implications were derived regarding the necessity of lesson planning for math underachievers and the development of lesson planning competency of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers in teacher education.
In this study, we tried to find a way to improve the pedagogical decision-making practices related to the presentation order of 'large number' and 'small number' in problem situations of subtraction of the natural number. For this purpose, the elementary school teachers' perception about problem situations in real-life context of subtraction of natural numbers was investigated, and the collected data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to identify teachers' pedagogical perceptions. As a result of this study, it was confirmed the need for consideration on how to set up a problem situations in real-life context of subtraction so that students can develop their ability to solve various types of problems. To this end, not only in a problem situation of subtraction where you have to think of 'large number' first and 'small number' later, but also about the introduction of problem situations in real-life context of subtraction in which you think about 'small number' first and 'large number' later, which often appears in real-life. You will need to recognize the need. And you should have a pedagogical view on this. The results of this study will be able to contribute to the preparation of pedagogical method that can expand the understanding of various problem situations where subtraction is applied from the lower grades of elementary school.
The purpose of this study is to verify the educational effectiveness of interaction design in mobile APP by observing the impact of interaction design for elementary school education on enhancing learning immersion and continuous use intention, and propose an interaction design scheme based on elementary school education APP. The research methods are literature research and questionnaire survey. Specifically, through the literature research method, the concepts and prior studies on the concept, reviews the continuous use intention and previous research of interaction design. Then, conducts a questionnaire survey on elementary school students in South Korea and China to understand the interaction design, learning immersion, and continuous use intention, and analyzes the relationship between variables. The research result of this study is to observe the influence of interaction design elements within interaction on learning immersion and continuous use intention with elementary school students who are users of elementary school education application as the objects. The results show that interaction design within interaction has a positive impact on improving learning immersion and continuous use intention. It can be thought that this is because in mathematics/science education, it is easy to understand theoretical concepts or explanations, and stories and images will be continued at each stage to help students learn without being bored. In conclusion, this study can confirm that interactive inline design has a positive effect of enabling learners to engage in learning and continue to use.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the most prevalent sleep disorders that can lead to serious consequences, including hypertension and/or cardiovascular diseases, if not treated promptly. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is widely recognized as the most effective treatment for OSA, which needs the proper titration of airway pressure to achieve the most effective treatment results. However, the process of CPAP titration can be time-consuming and cumbersome. There is a growing importance in predicting personalized CPAP pressure before CPAP treatment. The primary objective of this study was to optimize the CPAP titration process for obstructive sleep apnea patients through EEG feature engineering with machine learning techniques. We aimed to identify and utilize the most critical EEG features to forecast key OSA predictive indicators, ultimately facilitating more precise and personalized CPAP treatment strategies. Here, we analyzed 126 OSA patients' PSG datasets before and after the CPAP treatment. We extracted 29 EEG features to predict the features that have high importance on the OSA prediction index which are AHI and SpO2 by applying the Shapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) method. Through extracted EEG features, we confirmed the six EEG features that had high importance in predicting AHI and SpO2 using XGBoost, Support Vector Machine regression, and Random Forest Regression. By utilizing the predictive capabilities of EEG-derived features for AHI and SpO2, we can better understand and evaluate the condition of patients undergoing CPAP treatment. The ability to predict these key indicators accurately provides more immediate insight into the patient's sleep quality and potential disturbances. This not only ensures the efficiency of the diagnostic process but also provides more tailored and effective treatment approach. Consequently, the integration of EEG analysis into the sleep study protocol has the potential to revolutionize sleep diagnostics, offering a time-saving, and ultimately more effective evaluation for patients with sleep-related disorders.
