X-ray structures of pharaonis phoborhodopsin (ppR) show the different direction of the side chain of Arg72 from that of the corresponding residue (Arg82) of bacteriorhodopsin, BR. For BR, this residue is considered to play an important role in the proton pumping. In order to investigate the role of Arg72 in ppR, we constructed Arg72 mutants of R72A, R72K and R72Q, and measured the photocycle and proton pumping activities. The pH-titration curves on the absorption maximum of the mutants were shifted to alkaline in comparison of that of the wild-type. This may imply the increase of pKa of D75, suggesting the presence of the (probably electric) interaction between D75 and Arg72. Rate constants of the M-decay were 3-7 times faster than that of the wild-type, and the time for the completion of the photocycling was also reduced. Using Sn0$_2$ electrode, the rate of transmembrane proton transport was measured upon illumination. The photo-induced proton pumping activities were estimated after the corrections that are the percentages of the associated form of D75 (which has no pumping activity) and the photocycling rates. R72A and R72Q showed the reduced activity while R72K did not reduce the activity.
Recently, the growth of applications and services over high-speed Internet increases, ATM networks as wide area back-bone has been a major solution. As the conventional TCP/IP suite is still the standard protocol used to support upper application on current. Internet, the issues regarding whether TCP/IP will operate efficiently on top of an ATM infrastructure and how to control its QoS still remain for studies. TCP uses a window-based protocol for flow control in the transport layer. When TCP uses the UBR service in ATM layer, the control method is only buffer management. If a cell is discarded in ATM layer, one whole packet of TCP will be lost; this fact occur the most TCP performance degradation. Several dropping strategies, such as Tail Drop, EPD, PPD, SPD, FBA, have been proposed to improve the TCP performance over ATM. In this paper, to improve the TCP performance, we propose a packet dropping scheme that is based on comparison with EPD, SPD and FBA. Our proposed scheme is applied to schemes discussed in the previous technology. Our proposed scheme does not need to know each connection's mean packet size. When the buffer exceeds the given threshold, it is based on comparison between the number of dropped packet and the approved packet. Our results are reported and discussed for comparing these discarding schemes under similar conditions. Although the number of virtual channel (VC) is increased, the simulation results showed that the proposed scheme can allocate more fairly each VC than other scheme.

This paper presents a method to improve the performance of Scalable Multicast Protocol deployed in wired and wireless network by adding retransmission function on base stations. When using Scalable Multicast Protocol over wireless and wired networks, packet drops on the wireless link produce the initiation of retransmission request packets and the implosion of retransmission packets, which deteriorate the multicast session performance. The efficient reliable multicast mechanism in wireless networks utilizing the retransmission function on the base station is addressed in this paper. We explain the design of a retransmission function which improves the performance of Scalable Multicast Protocol sessions in wireless and wirednetwork. The main idea is to cache Scalable Multicast Protocol packets at the base station and perform local retransmissions across the wireless link. ARENA has been used to simulate and to get performance for reducing signaling overhead and processing delay through the comparison of the proposed function to the Scalable Multicast Protocol.
Light-weight conductive polymer composites were prepared by incorporating polyheterocycles such as polypyrrole and polythiophene into pores of a highly porous cross-linked polystyrene, host polymer, to form a conductive network. The highly hydrophobic and porous host polymer was synthesized by concentrated emulsion polymerization method. Polypyrrole-based composites, prepared by employing ferric chloride-methanol system, showed a conductivity as high as 0.82 S/cm. Conductivity of polythiophene-based composites, prepared from ferric chloride-acetonitrile system, was 6.05 S/cm. Conductivity of compositivity was influenced by the initial molar ratio of oxidant to monomer as well. SEM micrographs of the composites showed that conducting polymer coated uniformly the inside wall of the porous host polymer. Shielding effectiveness of the polypyrrole-based composites and of the polythiophene-based composites were 15.2 dB and 22.5 dB at 2.0 GHz, respectively. In the temperature range from 20 to 300K, a polypyrrole impregnated composite exhibited seimiconducting behavior and followed the variable range hopping(VRH) model for charge transport.
Vaccination is one of the most effective methods available to prevent infectious diseases. Mucosa, which are exposed to heavy loads of commensal and pathogenic microorganisms, are one of the first areas where infections are established, and therefore have frontline status in immunity, making mucosa ideal sites for vaccine application. Moreover, vaccination through the mucosal immune system could induce effective systemic immune responses together with mucosal immunity in contrast to parenteral vaccination, which is a poor inducer of effective immunity at mucosal surfaces. Among mucosal vaccines, oral mucosal vaccines have the advantages of ease and low cost of vaccine administration. The oral mucosal immune system, however, is generally recognized as poorly immunogenic due to the frequent induction of tolerance against orally-introduced antigens. Consequently, a prerequisite for successful mucosal vaccination is that the orally introduced antigen should be transported across the mucosal surface into the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). In particular, M cells are responsible for antigen up-take into MALT, and the rapid and effective transcytotic activity of M cells makes them an attractive target for mucosal vaccine delivery, although simple transport of the antigen into M cells does not guarantee the induction of specific immune responses. Consequently, development of mucosal vaccine adjuvants based on an understanding of the biology of M cells has attracted much research interest. Here, we review the characteristics of the oral mucosal immune system and delineate strategies to design effective oral mucosal vaccines with an emphasis on mucosal vaccine adjuvants.
After the railway reform in 2004, Korea National Railroad was divided into two separate organizations. The Korea Railway Network Authority is responsible for the construction of new line. Korea Railroad corporation is a public-owned railway operator. The compensation for the loss of rail operator from the Public Service Obligation(PSO) observance is specified in the Law of Rail Industry Development No.32, No.33. However, it is necessary to revise the compensation criteria of PSO after the actual enforcement of the law for more efficient rail operation. This study aims for revising compensation criteria of PSO. In this study, we suggested a revised compensation criteria. The scope of compensation for the loss of regional line operation was adjusted by new criteria considering the characteristics and the business results of the line. The compensation rate is linked with the actual business results of the line for giving motivation to the rail operator.
As a basic life-supporting infra in modem life, road should carry out various functions; transport, public linear network service, open activity space. Case study villages were divided into plan-based improved one(3 subtypes) and not one(4 subtypes). On total 21 case study villages($3{\times}7$ subtypes), questionnaire surveys were performed. Villagers' satisfaction level to road conditions in the plan-based improved villages showed much higher than not improved ones, which means that improvement of village roads be a vital subject in level-up of quality of rural life. Traffic function of village roads was responded as a principal one, while other various functions as between-villagers communication, car-parking and accommodation of public utilities were also required. In this viewpoint, village roads should be multi-purposedly developed in future. So, it was concluded that the road improvement strength would vary with geographical and topographical conditions of each village. Although villagers' unsatisfaction level on road service was very high, their demand level of and supporting will toward road improvement works have continuously increased, so, it would be considered to be the very time that full-fledged village road improvement policy be initiated.
IEEE 802.15.4 reserves transmission time to support real-time transport by sending GTS request packets to the PAN coordinator in advance. This paper introduces GTS-FAT technique to reduce the reservation time by giving a higher sending priority to GTS request packets than data packets. Differently from the conventional scheme where these two kinds of packets share a single transmission queue, GTS-FAT scheme allocates two queues with two different contention window sizes like IEEE 802.11e. This paper also proposes an analytical GTS delay model by combining the two legacy models for 802.15.4 and 802.11e to accurately predict the GTS-FAT delay over a given network topology. Our analysis shows that GTS-FAT reduces GTS service delay by up to 50% at the expense of the data delay by only up to 6.1% when GTS request packets four times outnumber data packets.

In this work, in order to manufacture the photoelectrode of dye-sensitized solar cells, the different anatase $TiO_2$ paste was prepared by simple route using hydrothermal method. In comparison with the traditional preparing process, the hydrothermally synthesized $TiO_2$ gel was used to make paste directly. Thus, the making process was simplified and the solar conversion efficiency was improved. In comparison with 5.34% solar energy efficiency of HP-1 photoelectrode, the 6.23% efficiency of HDP-1 electrode was improved by 16.67%. This is because hydrothermally synthesized $TiO_2$ gel was used to make paste directly, the dispersibility between $TiO_2$ particles was improved and get the smoother network, leading to the charge transport ability of the electron generated in dye molecular was improved. Further, HDP-2 photoelectrode delivered the best results with Voc (open circuit voltage), Jsc (short circuit current density) FF (fill factor) and ${\eta}$(solar conversion efficiency) were 0.695 V, $15.81mA\;cm^{-2}$, 61.48% and 6.80%, respectively. In comparison with 5.34% of HP-1 photoelectrode, it was improved by 27.34%.
