  • In this experimentation, we investigated the characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite. Ferroxplana was prepared by flux method at low temperature. The crystallization, magnetic properties and particle morphology of the obtained ferroxplana powder were investigated by using XRD, VSM and SEM. The particle size of ferroxplana powder was 2∼4$\mu\textrm{m}$ at the ratio of R=26, The coercivity and saturation magnetization of ferroxplana powder increased slightly with increase of temperature, The magnetic loss was the main factor of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite, The maximum reflection loss of composite was about -l5dB below 4GHz.

  • A new gate drive circuit of classic converter for a switched reluctance motor is presented. Conventional gate drive circuit usually consists of the isolated power supplies and signal transferring devices for isolation, such as photo coupler, pulse transformer, and gate drive chips. The proposed gate drive circuit consists of resistors, capacitors, and zenor diodes without isolated power supplies, that make the drive circuit simple and reduce the material cost. The operational modes are classified and analyzed. The characteristics of the phase current and the gate signal of upper switches is investigated with the variation of duty ratio through the experiments.

  • The domain wall motion coercivity, $H_{c}$, of magnetic materials arises from the dependence of the wall energy on localized changes in material parameters (magnetization, anisotropy, exchange energy densities). However, in an otherwise perfectly homogeneous material, the domain wall energy might change due to the change in the volume of the wall versus the wall position. Thus, any surface roughness contributes to the coercivity. Assuming different two-dimensional surface profiles, characterized by average wavelengths ${\lambda}_{x}$ and ${\lambda}_{y}$, and relative thickness variations dh/h, the coercivity due to the surface roughness has been calculated. Compared to the one dimensional case, the 2D coercivity is reduced. Depending on the ratio of ${\lambda}$ to the domain wall width, $H_{c}$ has a maximum around 2, and increasing with dh/h. With the decreasing thickness of the thin film and GMR heads, it might be the domain factor in determining the coercivity.

  • The Co-based ribbons with different length were annealed in different magnetic field and GMI profiles were investigated in order to clarify the influence of ribbon size on GMI effect. The GMI ratio decreased with the decreasing in length and also decreased with increasing annealing field. While, the slope of GMI profiles inclined and the field range showing linearity was broadened. It shows prospect to low field sensor, especially for a navigation sensor.

  • Detention pond has an important role in peak flow reduction to mitigate flood damage. Design of detention pond is accomplished through the preliminary stage, and design stage in general. New development projects produce increased peak flow and flow amounts. In this case it is necessary to design the detention pond easily and simply. A simplified design method of the detention pond is suggested in this study. Used design variables are peak flow ratio(${\alpha}$) and storage ratio($S_r$). ${\alpha}$ is the peak flow ratio of before and after development of the basin. $S_r$ is a ratio of storage volume to total runoff volume. Applicability of the proposed method was also proved. The simple procedure of detention pond design is proposed in this study.

  • The plastic strain ratio is one of the factors that affect the deep drawability of metal sheets. The plastic strain ratio of fully annealed Cu sheet is low, due to its texture being {001}<100>. In this study, in order to increase the plastic strain ratio of Cu sheets we investigated the effect of two treatments: 1st the sheet was asymmetrically rolled and annealed, and 2nd the sheet was symmetrically and asymmetrically rolled and subsequently annealed. The average plastic strain ratio (Rm) of the initial Cu sheet was 0.95 and |Δr| was 1.27. After the 2nd treatment of 5.3% symmetric rolling and annealing of Cu sheet at 1000℃ for 60 min in Ar gas condition, the Rm was 2.29 times higher and the |Δr| was 1.44 times higher than that of initial Cu sheet specimen. After the 2nd treatment of 8.2% asymmetric rolling and annealing of Cu sheet at 1000℃ for 60 min in Ar gas conditions, the Rm was 2.51 times higher and |Δr| was 0.53 times lower than that of the initial Cu sheet specimen. These results can be attributed to the change in texture of the Cu sheets due to the differences in the two methods of rolling.

  • This paper presents further investigation into the effect of over-expansion cycle in a spark-ignition engine. On the basis of the results obtained in previous studies, several combinations of late-closing (LC) of intake valve and expansion ratio were tested using a single-cylinder production engine. A large volume of intake capacity was inserted into the intake manifold to simulate multi-cylinder engines. With the large capacity volume, LC can decrease the pumping loss and then increase the mechanical efficiency. Increasing the expansion ratio from 11 to 23.9 with LC application can produce about 13% improvement of thermal efficiency which was suggested to be caused by the increased cycle efficiency. The decrease of compression ratio from 11 to 5.5 gives little effect on the thermal efficiency if the expansion ratio could be kept constant. Thus, the expansion ratio is revealed to be a determining factor for cycle efficiency, while compression ratio is no more important, which suggests the usefulness of controlling the intake charge with intake valve closure timing. These were successfully explained by simple thermodynamic calculation and thus the mechanism could be verified by the estimation.

  • Herein, a $2{\times}2$ subarray antenna is designed to implement a VHF band active electronically scanned array. The Yagi-Uda antenna is used as a radiating element. The bandwidth enhancement and miniaturization of the Yagi-Uda antenna are achieved by optimizing the diameter of a driven element and the length of a director. In addition, the grid reflector is utilized to improve the front-to-back ratio(FBR) and to reduce both the wind resistance and overall system weight. The fabricated $2{\times}2$ subarray antenna fully covers the VHF target band($0.98{\sim}1.02f_c$). The measured maximum gain is 10.61 dBi and the FBR is larger than 26 dB.

  • Objective: A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplemental fat containing saturated free fatty acids (FA) on milk performance of Holstein dairy cows. Methods: A database was developed from 21 studies published between 1991 and 2016 that included 502 dairy cows and a total of 29 to 30 comparisons between dietary treatment and control without fat supplementation. Only saturated free FA (>80% of total FA) was considered as the supplemental fat. Concentration of the supplemental fat was not higher than 3.5% of diet dry matter (DM). Dairy cows were offered total mixed ration, and fed individually. Statistical analysis was conducted using random- or mixed-effects models with Metafor package in R. Results: Sub-group analysis showed that there were no differences in studies between randomized block design and Latin square/crossover design for dry matter intake (DMI) and milk production responses to the supplemental fat (all response variables, $p{\geq}0.344$). The supplemental fat across all studies improved milk yield, milk fat concentration and yield, and milk protein yield by 1.684 kg/d (p<0.001), 0.095 percent unit (p = 0.003), 0.072 kg/d (p<0.001), and 0.036 kg/d (p<0.001), respectively, but tended to decrease milk protein concentration (mean difference = -0.022 percent unit; p = 0.063) while DMI (mean difference = 0.061 kg/d; p = 0.768) remained unchanged. The assessment of heterogeneity suggested that no substantial heterogeneity occurred among all studies for DMI and milk production responses to the supplemental fat (all response variables, $I^2{\leq}24.1%$; $p{\geq}0.166$). Conclusion: The effects of saturated free FA were quantitatively evaluated. Higher milk production and yields of milk fat and protein, with DMI remaining unchanged, indicated that saturated free FA, supplemented at ${\leq}3.5%$ dietary DM from commercially available fat sources, likely improved the efficiency of milk production. Nevertheless, more studies are needed to assess the variation of production responses to different saturated free FA, either C16:0 or C18:0 alone, or in combination with potentially optimal ratio, when supplemented in dairy cow diets.

  • Effects of $La_2O_3$, $MnO_2$ on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ system were investigated. The addition of La2O3 to the system enhanced electromechanical coupling factor (kp), piezoelectric constant (d33), but hardly changed mechanical quality factor (Qm). On the other hand, the addition of $MnO_2$ increased Qm significantly, but did not degrade kp and d33 so much. The piezoelectric properties of $0.02Pb(Y_{2/3}W_{1/3}O_3-0.98Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ containing 0.1wt% $La_2O_3$, 0.4wt% $MnO_2$ were very good and kp, d33, Qm were 55%, 350$\times$10-12C/N, 780, respectively. The size of the grains was proportional to the change of c/a (tetragonality) ratio caused by the addition of $La_2O_3$ and $MnO_2$, and dielectric, piezoelectric properties were sensitive to the amountof pyrochrole phase.
