  • A (0,1) matrix is acyclic if it does not have a permutation matrix of order 2 as a submatrix. A bipartite tournament is acyclic if and only if its adjacency matrix is acyclic. The concepts of (maximal) order of cyclicity of a matrix and a bipartite tournament are introduced and studied.

  • A stud has been carried out for figuring out real photon spectrum from an observed gamma-ray spectrum by means of response matrix method, which is known one of the relatively convenient method for the estimation of exposure rate of a complex gamma ray field in comparison with graphical analysis and least square fitting of the measured spectrum. A 3'${\times}$3' cylindrical Nal(T1) scintillation detector in association with multichannel pulse height analyzer and six reference gamma ray sources covering the photon energy range of 0.05 to 2.0 MeV were used. In dividing the energy region for the construction of response matrix, two different approaches were attempted. One is dividing the entire energy region of interest into 20 bins, one of which corresponds to a width of 0.1 MeV to form $20{\times}20$ matrix, and another is dividing the 2 MeV region into 14 bins to form $14{\times}14$ matrix consists of $0.1(MeV)^{1/2}$ intervals assuming the resolution of the detector is dependent on square root of the incident photon energy. Inversion of thus constructed matrices was performed by a computor(P-E8/32) using the program attached to the end of this paper. The resultant exposure rates obtained by this method were in good agreement, within 10% with those calculated by ordinary formula widely used for a gamma-ray field of known energy and flux. It is concluded that the photen flux obtained by the response matrix constructed under the assumption of $E^{1/2}$ dependence is more realistic than that obtained by the matrix consist of identical energy bins in dosimetrical point of view.

  • $ZrV_{0.1}Mn_{0.7}Ni_{1.2}$ alloy ingot (bulk alloy) made by the arc melting was found to be consisting of mostly of $ZrV_{0.2}Mn_{0.98}Ni_{1.04}$ matrix alloy and $ZrV_{0.01}Mn_{0.13}Ni_{1.2}$ 2nd phase alloy. The former alloy had the form of the C15 type Laves alloy structure and the latter one had the intermetallic compound structure of $Zr_9Ni_{11}$. In order to investigate the effect of these two phases on the electrochemical charge-discharge characteristics of bulk $ZrV_[0.1}Mn_0.7}Ni_{1.2}$ alloy, the matrix and the 2nd phase alloys were fabricated separately by arc melting method and their electrochemical characteristics were studied and compared with the bulk alloy. It was found that the discharge capacity was the lowest of 160 mAh/g in the 2nd phase alloy. The matrix alloy exhibited 200 mAh/g. Both were lower than that of the bulk alloy of 250 mAh/g. The matrix and the bulk alloys showed a similar properties in the activation stage, the high rate dischargeability and the self discharge characteristics. Also a signigicant capacity decrease was observed after activation in both alloys. Whereas the 2nd phase alloy showed the very different characteristics. This alloy was found to be difficult to activate. However the capacity was remained constant after the activation. Also the self discharge rate was seen to be better than those of the matrix and the bulk alloys.

  • We study the question of whether a partial (0, 1)-normal matrix has a non-symmetric normal completion. Matrix sandwich problems are an important and special case of matrix completion problems. In this paper, we give some properties for the (0, 1)-normal matrices and some large classes that satisfies the normal sandwich completion.

  • Recently, it was reported that enamel matrix derivative may be beneficial in periodontal regeneration procedures in expectation of promoting new bone and cementum formation. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of enamel matrix derivative($Emdogain^?$)and Caso4 sulfate paste in 1-wall intrabony defects in beagle dogs. Surgically created 1-wall intrabony defects were randomly assigned to receive root debridement alone or $Emdogain^{(R)}$ or $Emdogain^{(R)}$ and Caso4. Clinical defect size was 4 X 4mm. The control group was treated with root debridement alone, and Experimental group I was treated with enamel matrix derivative application, and Experimental group II was treated with enamel matrix derivative and Caso4 sulfate paste application,. The healing processes were histologically and histometrically observed after 8 weeks and the results were as follows: 1. The length of junctional epithelium was $0.41{\pm}0.01mm$ in the control group, $0.42{\pm}0.08mm$in the experimental group I and $0.50{\pm}0.13mm$in the experimental group II. 2. The connective tissue adhesion was $0.28{\pm}0.02mm$ in the control group, $0.13{\pm}0.08mm$ in the experimental group I and $0.19{\pm}0.02mm$ in the experimental group II. 3. The new cementum formation was $3.80{\pm}0.06mm$ in the control group, $4.12{\pm}0.43mm$ in the experimental group I and $4.34{\pm}0.71mm$ in the experimental group II. 4. The new bone formation was $1.43{\pm}0.03mm$ in the control group, $1.53{\pm}0.47mm$ in the experimental group I and $2.25{\pm}1.35mm$ in the experimental group II. Although there was limitation to present study, the use of enamel matrix derivative in the treatment of periodontal 1-wall intrabony defect enhanced new cementum and bone formation. Caso4 sulfate paste will be the candidate for carriers to deliver enamel matrix derivative, and so enhance the regenerative potency of enamel matrix derivative.

  • Sheets of SiC-SiC whisker maxed matrix were prepared from the mixed slurry of SiC whisker and SiC matrix by the rolling method. With the increase of SiC whisker, the pore size, the porosity and the phosphoric acid absorbency of the matrix were increased, while the bubble pressure was decreased. The activation energy for the transfer of H+ ion was decreased with the increase of mixing ratio of SiC whisker to the SiC matrix from the measurement of hydrogen ion conductivity. The activation energy was evaluated as 0.25 eV when the mixing ratio of SiC whisker to the SiC matrix was 1 : 2 and the activation energy was 0.16 eV for the 2 : 1 matrix. It means that SiC whisker matrix contributes to attain a better microstructure for the diffusion of hydrogen ion. From the measurement of single cell performance of matrix with various mixing ratio, it is concluded that if SiC-SiC whisker maxed matrix has a sufficient bubble pressure to prevent the crossover of H2 gas, the current density of a fuel cell is increased with the increase of acid absorbency of the matrix. Current density was improved from 140 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 0.25 mm thickness of matrix to 170 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for the 0.20 mm one at 700 mV.

  • In this paper, we are concerned with the minimal positive solution to system of the nonlinear matrix equations $A_1X^2+B_1Y +C_1=0$ and $A_2Y^2+B_2X+C_2=0$, where $A_i$ is a positive matrix or a nonnegative irreducible matrix, $C_i$ is a nonnegative matrix and $-B_i$ is a nonsingular M-matrix for i = 1, 2. We apply Newton's method to system and present a modified Newton's iteration which is validated to be efficient in the numerical experiments. We prove that the sequences generated by the modified Newton's iteration converge to the minimal positive solution to system of nonlinear matrix equations.

  • The main object of this study is to introduce the spaces $c_0({\hat{F}^q)$ and $c({\hat{F}^q)$ derived by the matrix ${\hat{F}^q$ which is the multiplication of Riesz matrix and Fibonacci matrix. Moreover, we find the 𝛼-, 𝛽-, 𝛾- duals of these spaces and give the characterization of matrix classes (${\Lambda}({\hat{F}^q)$, Ω) and (Ω, ${\Lambda}({\hat{F}^q)$) for 𝚲 ∈ {c0, c} and Ω ∈ {ℓ1, c0, c, ℓ}.

  • Microstructure and morphology of precipitates in $Ni_3Al$- and TiAl-based intermetallics containing carbon have been investigated in terms of transmission electron microscopy(TEM). In an $L1_2$-ordered $Ni_3Al$ alloy with 4 mol.% of chromium and 0.2~3.0 mol.% of carbon, fine octahedral precipitates of $M_{23}C_6$ type carbide were formed in the matrix by aging at temperatures around 973 K after solution annealing at 1423 K. TEM examination revealed that the $M_{23}C_6$ phase and the matrix lattices have a cube-cube orientation relationship and keep partial atomic matching at the {111} interface. After prolonged aging or by aging at higher temperatures, the $M_{23}C_6$ precipitates then adopt a rod-like morphology elongated parallel to the <100> directions. In the $L1_0$-ordered TiAl containing 0.1~2.0 mol.% carbon, TEM observations revealed that needle-like precipitates, which lie only in one direction parallel to the [001] axis of the $L1_0$ matrix, appear in the matrix and preferentially at dislocations. Selected area electron diffraction(SAED) patterns analyses have shown that the needle-shaped precipitate is $Ti_3AlC$ of perovskite type. The orientation relationship between the $Ti_3AlC$ and the $L1_0$ matrix is found to be $(001)_{Ti3AlC}//(001)_{L10\;matrix}$ and $[010]_{Ti3AlC}//[010]_{L10\;matrix}$. By aging at higher temperatures or for longer period at 1073 K, plate-like precipitates of $Ti_2AlC$ with a hexagonal structure are formed on the {111} planes of the $L1_0$ matrix. The orientation relationship between the $Ti_2AlC$ and the $L1_0$ matrix is $(0001)_{Ti2AlC}//(111)_{L10\;matrix}$ and $_{Ti2AlC}//_{L10\;matrix}$.
