  • We introduce the notion of R($g$, $g^{\prime}$)-continuity on generalized topological spaces, which is a strong form of ($g$, $g^{\prime}$)-continuity. We investigate some properties and relationships among R($g$, $g^{\prime}$)-continuity, ($g$, $g^{\prime}$)-continuity and some strong forms of ($g$, $g^{\prime}$)-continuity.

  • In this paper we show that if D and G are continuous linear Jordan derivations on a Banach algebra A satisfying [D(x), x]x - x[G(x),x] $\epsilon$ rad(A)for all $\epsilon$ A, then both D and G map A into rad(A).

  • The existence and uniqueness of T-periodic solutions for the following p-Laplacian equations: $$({\phi}_p(x^{\prime}))^{\prime}+{\alpha}(t)x^{\prime}+g(t,x)=e(t),\;x(0)=x(T),x^{\prime}(0)=x^{\prime}(T)$$ are investigated, where ${\phi}_p(u)={\mid}u{\mid}^{p-2}u$ with $p$ > 1 and ${\alpha}{\in}C^1$, $e{\in}C$ are T-periodic and $g$ is continuous and T-periodic in $t$. By using coincidence degree theory, some existence and uniqueness results are obtained.

  • The effect of initial concentration of ammonium ion ($N_0$) and active nitrifiers ($X_0$) on nitrification was examined by continuous monitoring of the ammonium removal rate. The concentration of the active nitrifiers in the culture sludge, measured by the oxygen uptake rate (OUR), was found to be 42.8% of the culture sludge. Experiments were carried out under different ratios of $N_0/X_0$, viz., 0.025 to 0.493. The results from this study show that the oxidation rate was similar under the same $N_0/X_0$ ratio despite different initial concentration of ammonium ion ($N_0$) and active nitrifiers ($X_0$). Moreover, the Contois kinetic expression which includes biomass concentration, was found to describe the mechanism behind nitrification process. The ammonium oxidation rate ($q_{Nmax}$) and half saturation constant per unit activated nitrifiers ($K_N{^{\prime}}$) were theoretically determined using the Contois expression. These values were found to be 4.32 gN/gVSS/day and 0.013 gN/gVSS respectively.

  • For -2 < ${\alpha}$ < ${\infty}$ and 0 < p < ${\infty}$, the $\mathcal{Q}_K$-type space is the space of all analytic functions on the open unit disk ${\mathbb{D}}$ satisfying $$_{{\sup} \atop a{\in}{\mathbb{D}}}{\large \int_{\mathbb{D}}}{{\mid}f^{\prime}(z){\mid}}^p(1-{{\mid}z{\mid}^2})^{\alpha}K(g(z,a))dA(z)<{\infty}$$, where $g(z,a)=log\frac{1}{{\mid}{\sigma}_a(z){\mid}}$ is the Green's function on ${\mathbb{D}}$ and K : [0, ${\infty}$) [0, ${\infty}$), is a right-continuous and non-decreasing function. For 0 < s < ${\infty}$, the space $\mathcal{Q}_s$ consists of all analytic functions on ${\mathbb{D}}$ for which $$_{sup \atop a{\in}{\mathbb{D}}}{\large \int_{\mathbb{D}}}{{\mid}f^{\prime}(z){\mid}}^2(g(z,a))^sdA(z)<{\infty}$$. Boundedness and compactness of composition operators $C_{\varphi}$ acting on $\mathcal{Q}_K$-type spaces and $\mathcal{Q}_s$ spaces is characterized in terms of the norms of ${\varphi}^n$. Thus the author announces a solution to the problem raised by Wulan, Zheng and Zhou.

  • Electricity is the prime commodity in mobile device, e.g. smart phone, PDA, MP3 player and etc. This strict restriction on power consumption requirement of the mobile device puts unique demand in designing hardware and software components of the device. In this paper, we address the issue of minimizing the power consumption in retrieving the continuous media data from the disk drive for real-time playback purpose. Different from the legacy text based data, real-time multimedia playback requires that the storage supplies the data block continuous fashion. This may put immense burden on the power scarce environment since the disk Is required to be active for the entire playback duration. We develop elaborate algorithm which carefully analyzes the power consumption profile of the disk drive and which establishes the data retrieval schedule for the given playback. It computes the amount of data blocks to read, the length of active and standby period. According to our simulation result, the ARM algorithm exhibits superior performance in continuous media retrieval from the aspect of power consumption to legacy playback scheme.

  • Earthquake records are often analyzed in various earthquake engineering problems, making time-frequency analysis for such records of primary concern. The best tool for such analysis appears to be based on wavelet functions; selection of which is not an easy task and is commonly carried through trial and error process. Furthermore, often a particular wavelet is adopted for analysis of various earthquakes irrespective of record's prime characteristics, e.g. wave's magnitude. A wavelet constructed based on records' characteristics may yield a more accurate solution and more efficient solution procedure in time-frequency analysis. In this study, a low-pass reconstruction filter is obtained for each earthquake record based on multi-resolution decomposition technique; the filter is then assigned to be the normalized version of the last approximation component with respect to its magnitude. The scaling and wavelet functions are computed using two-scale relations. The calculated wavelets are highly efficient in decomposing the original records as compared to other commonly used wavelets such as Daubechies2 wavelet. The method is further advantageous since it enables one to decompose the original record in such a way that a clear time-frequency resolution is obtained.
