  • Flow through turbine flow meter is simulated by solving the incompressible Navier-Stockes equations. The solution method is based on the pseudocompressibility approach and uses an implicit-upwind differencing scheme together with the Gauss-Seidel Line relaxation method. The equations are solved steadily in rotating reference frames and the centrifugal force and the Coriolis force are added to the equation of motion. The standard k-$\epsilon$ model is employed to evaluate turbulent viscosity.

  • Numerical calculation is applied to centrifugal pump at design condition by using commercial code STAR-CD and Tascflow, and these results are compared with experimental data at impeller outlet. Numerical analysis is also performed by changing turbulence model and discretization scheme at design condition using Tascflow. Turbulence model and discretization scheme used to Tascflow are k-$\epsilon$, k-$\omega$ turbulence model and upwind, modified linear profile scheme. W;th the same turbulence model and discretization scheme, two results of STAR-CD and Tascflow are very similar. But there is significant difference in numerical results near hub and shroud of impeller with different kinds of turbulent model and discretization scheme at design condition. And with k- $\omega$ turbulence model and modified linear profile scheme, it is showed that numerical results are very similar to experimental results of impeller outlet

  • In large pump station, vortex generation such as free-surface vortex and submerged vortex occurring around pump intake, or at bell-mouth inlet has been an important flow characteristics which should be considered always to keep away the suction of air-entrained or cavitated flow. In this study, a commercial CFD code was used to predict accurately the vortex generation for the specified intake design. These result shows the preliminary result of submerged vortex prediction for the Turbo-machinery Society of Japan Sump Test CFD standard model. At bottom wall, air volume fraction (red color) was found in a large scale to explain the submerged vortex generation at particular operation and configuration condition. And these indicate the free surface formation behind the bell mouth. Particularly, non-uniform approaching flow is a major parameter to govern the occurrence of the free-surface vortex. Futhermore the comparison between turbulence ($k-{\epsilon}$ & $k-{\omega}$ model) mode were executed in this study.

  • In this paper, we consider an iterative algorithm for solving a new class of quasi complementarity problems of finding $u{\epsilon}R^{n}$ such that $g(u){\in}K(u)$, $Tu+A(u){\in}K^{*}(u)$, and < g(u), Tu + A(u) >=0, where T, A and g are continuous mappings from $R^{n}$ into itself and $K^{*}(u)$ is the polar cone of the convex cone K(u) in $R^{n}$. The algorithms considered in this paper are general and unifying ones, which include many existing algorithms as special cases for solving the complementarity problems. We also study the convergence criteria of the general algorithms.

  • Two-component models (normal star and degenerate star components) are the simplest realization of clusters with a mass spectrum because the high mass stars quickly evolve off leaving degenerate stars behind, while low mass stars survive for a long time as main-sequence stars. In the present study we examine the post-collapse evolution of globular clusters using two-component Fokker-Planck models that include three-body binary heating. We confirm that a simple parameter ${\epsilon}{\equiv} (E_{tot}/t_{rh})/(E_c/t_{rc})$ well describes the occurrence of gravothermal oscillations of two-component clusters. Also, we find that the degree of instability depends on the steepness of the mass function such that clusters with a steeper mass function are less exposed to instability.

  • In the present paper we consider an abstract partial dif-ferential equation of the form $\frac{\partial^2u}{{\partial}t^2}-\frac{\partial^2u}{{\partial}x^2}+A(x.t)u=f(x, t)$, where ${A(x, t):(x, t){\epsilon}\bar{G} }$ is a family of linear closed operators and $G=GU{\partial}G$, G is a suitable bounded region in the (x, t)-plane with bound-are ${\partial}G$. It is assumed that u is given on the boundary ${\partial}G$. The objective of this paper is to study the considered Dirichlet problem for a wide class of operators $A(x, t)$. A Dirichlet problem for non-elliptic partial differential equations of higher orders is also considerde.

  • Numerical analysis of 150kW Huels-type arc jet was performed using compressible Navier-Stokes CFD code. To consider chemical reaction by high temperature, the flow was assumed to be chemical equilibrium states. As a turbulence and a radiation model, the two-equation k-epsilon model and the 3-band radiation model were adopted, respectively. Mass flow rate and current density were given as conditions for calculations. In this study, two kinds of mechanisms for injection of air flow wire considered. One is that air is provided by left wall surface and the other is that air is injected from upper wall surface. The pressure, density and temperature contours of two cases were compared and heat transfer rates were estimated. The numerical results of two cases were not much different to each other. However, in real 150KW device, air is injected from upper wall surface with swirl. To calculate more accurately, swirl effect is must be considered.

  • The characteristics of heat transfer in a two-dimensional channel obstructed by a square rod is investigated by a turbulence model. The computation is made for the six cases of different rod positions between channel walls. To analyze the wall heat transfer, the heat flux of channel walls is set as a constant value and the $k-{\epsilon}-f_{\mu}$ model is employed. Downstream the square rod, the flow recirculation region appear and they are varied by the rod position. The enhancement of the turbulent heat transfer to the wall is induced by the flow instability using a square rod. The averaged heat transfer rate is maximized at a specific rod position. Finally, the effects of square rod on unsteady flows are scrutinized with the frequency analysis.

  • Viscous flow and heat transfer phenomena in an axisymmetric cylinder which models a diesel engine have been numerically studied. In order to search for a way to minimize numerical diffusion, the effectiveness and the appropriateness of two selected numerical schemes for convective terms in the governing equations have been tested. They are Linear Upwind Difference Scheme and Hybrid Scheme. Using a standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model, the calculation has been carried out basically up to 180.deg. of crank angle. As a result, it was shown from comparison with previous experimental data that Linear Upwind Difference Scheme is less influenced than Hybrid Scheme by the numerical diffusion and it was suggested that these effects of numerical diffusion can be more significant than those due to turbulence modeling.

  • The flow analysis method which had been developed for the numerical calculation of 3-dimensional, incompressible and turbulent flow within an axial compressor was extended to the flow field within centrifugal impeller. In this method based on the SIMPLE(Semi Implicit Method Pressure Linked Equations) algorithm, the coordinate transformation was adopted and the standard k-.epsilon. model using wall function was used for turbulent flow analysis. The calculated flow fields have agreed very well with measurement results. Especially, 3-dimensional and viscous flow characteristics including secondary flows, jet-wake flow and decreased pressure rise along impeller passage, which can't be predicted by inviscid Q3D calculation were predicted very reasonably.
