  • In this paper, we make an experiment on speech recognition systems with barging-in and non-barging-in utterances. Barging-in capability, with which we can say voice commands while voice announcement is coming out, is one of the important elements for practical speech recognition systems. Barging-in capability can be realized by echo cancellation techniques based on the LMS (least-mean-square) algorithm. We use three kinds of telephone interface boards with barging-in capability, which are respectively made by Dialogic Company, Natural MicroSystems Company and Korea Telecom. Speech database was made using these three kinds of boards. We make a comparative recognition experiment with this speech database.

  • This paper proposes a new method to train Deep Neural Network (DNN)-based acoustic models for speech recognition of native and foreign speakers. The proposed method consists of determining multi-set state clusters with various acoustic properties, training a DNN-based acoustic model, and recognizing speech based on the model. In the proposed method, hidden nodes of DNN are shared, but output nodes are separated to accommodate different acoustic properties for native and foreign speech. In an English speech recognition task for speakers of Korean and English respectively, the proposed method is shown to slightly improve recognition accuracy compared to the conventional multi-condition training method.

  • In this paper, we propose a MWF-PMC noise processing method which enhances the input speech by using Mel-warped Wiener Filtering (MWF) at pre-processing stage and compensates the recognition model by using PMC (Parallel Model Combination) at post-processing stage for speech recognition in noisy environments. The PMC uses the residual noise extracted from the silence region of enhanced speech at pre-processing stage to compensate the clean speech model and thus this method is considered to improve the performance of speech recognition in noisy environments. For recognition experiments we dew.-sampled KLE PBW (Phoneme Balanced Words) 452 word speech data to 8kHz and made 5 different SNR levels of noisy speech, i.e., 0dB. 5dB, 10dB, 15dB and 20dB, by adding Subway, Car and Exhibition noise to clean speech. From the recognition results, we could confirm the effectiveness of the proposed MWF-PMC method by obtaining the improved recognition performances over all compared with the existing combined methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique for processing of speech recognition in korean words. Speech recognition is a technology that converts acoustic signals from sensors such as microphones into words or sentences. Most foreign languages have less difficulty in speech recognition. On the other hand, korean consists of vowels and bottom consonants, so it is inappropriate to use the letters obtained from the voice synthesis system. That improving the conventional structure speech recognition can the correct words recognition. In order to solve this problem, a new algorithm was added to the existing speech recognition structure to increase the speech recognition rate. Perform the preprocessing process of the word and then token the results. After combining the result processed in the Levenshtein distance algorithm and the hashing algorithm, the normalized words is output through the consonant comparison algorithm. The final result word is compared with the standardized table and output if it exists, registered in the table dose not exists. The experimental environment was developed by using a smartphone application. The proposed structure shows that the recognition rate is improved by 2% in standard language and 7% in dialect.

  • This paper compares two speech estimators under a generalized Gamma distribution for DFT-based single-microphone speech enhancement methods. For the speech enhancement, the noise estimation based on recursive averaging spectral values by spectral minimum noise is applied to two speech estimators based on the generalized Gamma distribution using $\kappa$=1 or $\kappa$=2. The performance of two speech enhancement algorithms is measured by recognition accuracy of automatic speech recognition(ASR) in car noisy environment.

  • Bimodal speech recognition based on lip reading has been studied as a representative method of speech recognition under noisy environments. There are three integration methods of speech and lip modalities as like direct identification, separate identification and dominant recording. In this paper we evaluate the robustness of lip reading methods under the assumption that lip parameters are estimated with errors. We show that the dominant recording approach is more robust than other methods through lip reading experiments.

  • Speech recognition system is input of inaccurate vocabulary by feature extraction case of recognition by appear result of unrecognized or similar phoneme recognized. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a speech recognition error correction method using phoneme similarity rate and reliability measures based on the characteristics of the phonemes. Phonemes similarity rate was phoneme of learning model obtained used MFCC and LPC feature extraction method, measured with reliability rate. Minimize the error to be unrecognized by measuring the rate of similar phonemes and reliability. Turned out to error speech in the process of speech recognition was error compensation performed. In this paper, the result of applying the proposed system showed a recognition rate of 98.3%, error compensation rate 95.5% in the speech recognition.

  • In this paper, we apply several pattern recognition algorithms to emotion recognition system with speech signal and compare the results. Firstly, we need emotional speech databases. Also, speech features for emotion recognition is determined on the database analysis step. Secondly, recognition algorithms are applied to these speech features. The algorithms we try are artificial neural network, Bayesian learning, Principal Component Analysis, LBG algorithm. Thereafter, the performance gap of these methods is presented on the experiment result section. Truly, emotion recognition technique is not mature. That is, the emotion feature selection, relevant classification method selection, all these problems are disputable. So, we wish this paper to be a reference for the disputes.

  • This paper studied the training methods less affected by the emotional variation for the development of the robust speech recognition system. For this purpose, the effect of emotional variation on the speech signal and the speech recognition system were studied using speech database containing various emotions. The performance of the speech recognition system trained by using the speech signal containing no emotion is deteriorated if the test speech signal contains the emotions because of the emotional difference between the test and training data. In this study, it is observed that vocal tract length of the speaker is affected by the emotional variation and this effect is one of the reasons that makes the performance of the speech recognition system worse. In this paper, a training method that cover the speech variations is proposed to develop the emotionally robust speech recognition system. Experimental results from the isolated word recognition using HMM showed that propose method reduced the error rate of the conventional recognition system by 28.4% when emotional test data was used.
