In this paper, we give characteristic differential equations of a kind of projective vector fields on Finsler manifolds. Using these equations, we prove the vanishing theorem of projective vector fields on any compact Finsler manifold with the negative mean Ricci curvature, which is defined in [10]. This result involves the vanishing theorem of Killing vector fields in the Riemannian case and the work of [1, 14].

This article presents the unique characteristics of cavitation, those are very high pressure and very high temperature even in a very short time. Such the high-pressure causes the destruction of material, which sometimes brings a severe problem to fluid machinery. However, if we look the cavitation from the different direction, such the high pressure can be used to various applications. The author presents two examples of the utilization of cavitation recently done at the Toyo University. Those are 'dispersion of spilled oil' and 'killing planktons'.

This thesis presents a model to assign targets and to determine gun ammunitions required for naval surface warfare. Delivery errors of weapon systems and vulnerability of moving targets are analyzed, then probability to kill moving battle sihps is computed. A weapon-target allocation model is proposed by using the Out of Kilter technique. A model to determine ammunitions required for killing moving targets is also designed. The models are evaluated by simulation and sensitivity analysis.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) obtained by the saponification of poly(vinyl ester) is a linear semicrystalline polymer; these polymers have been widely used as fibers for clothes and industries, binders, films, membranes, medicines for drug delivery system, and cancer cell-killing embolic materials. PVA fibers have high tensile and compressive strength, tensile modulus, and abrasion resistance because of the highest crystalline lattice modulus. (omitted)

In this paper, let Q be the real quaternion algebra which consists of all quaternionic numbers, and let G be the Lie group of all automorphisms of the algebra Q. Assume that g is an arbitrary given left invariant Riemannian metric on the Lie group G. Then, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for an automorphism of the group G to be harmonic.

Let G be a compact connected semisimple Lie group, g the Lie algebra of G, g the canonical metric (the biinvariant Riemannian metric which is induced from the Killing form of g), and $\nabla$ be the Levi-Civita connection for the metric g. Then, we get the fact that the Levi-Civita connection $\nabla$ in the tangent bundle TG over (G, g) is a Yang-Mills connection.

The bactericidal activities of DW286, a new fluoroquinolone were investigated by comparing the minimal bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) and the time-kill curve of it against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. The MBCs of DW286 for the strains tested were either equal to or two-fold higher than the MICs, as were observed for the other fluoroquinolones. And DW286 exhibited rapid killing curves against the strains. Accordingly, it could be said that DW286 has bactericidal activity comparable to other fluoroquinolones.

This paper describes a Battle Group Combat Simulation Model (called 'BAGSIM'). BAGSIM is developed to be used as an experimental tool for studies about combat modelling at battle group level. Thus it takes many of the parameters and situations into consideration at this level, and it is designed to be easily adapted to represent equivalent situations to the other more aggregated models. Further the main processes occurring in its simulation procedure such as target detection process, target selection process, firing and killing processes are verified by comparison with the existing stochastic duel models.
