Precipitation of Eu3+ - Yb3+ Codoped ZnAl2O4 Nanocrystals on Glass Surface by CO2 Laser Irradiation

  • We present a novel and simple method to enable spatially selective $ZnAl_2O_4$ nanocrystal formation on the surface of $B_2O_3$-$Al_2O_3$-ZnO-CaO-$K_2O$ glass by employing localized laser heating. Optimized precipitation of glass-ceramics containing nanocrystals doped with $Eu^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ ions was performed by controlling $CO_2$ laser power and scan speed. Micro-x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealed the mean size and morphology of nanocrystals, and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy showed the lateral distribution of elements in the imaged area. Laser power and scan speed controled annealing temperature for crystalization in the range of 1.4-1.8 W and 0.01-0.3 mm/s, and changed the size of nanocrystals and distribution of dopant ions. We also report more than 20 times enhanced downshift visible emission under ultraviolet excitation, and 3 times increased upconversion emission from $Eu^{3+}$ ions assisted by efficient sensitizer $Yb^{3+}$ ions in nanocrystals under 980 nm excitation. The confocal microscope revealed the depth profile of $Eu^{3+}$ ions by showing their emission intensity variation.

  • We have fabricated high-T$_c$ superconducting YBa$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}\;/SrTiO_3/\;YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO/STO/YBCO) multilayer structure on (001) $SrTiO_3$ substrate by using pulsed laser deposition technique for applying to ground plane of single flux quantum digital circuits. In this structure, the top and bottom YBCO layers were connected through the holes in the STO insulating layer. The critical temperature of the two YBCO layers connected each other was 86 K after annealing at 500 $^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ atm for about 60 hr. This result shows that the annealing process is very important fabricating YBCO/STO/YBCO multilayer structure An experiment to optimize the fabrication process of YSCO/ST0/YBCO multilayer structure with good quality is in progress.

  • Yb and Zn co-doped $LiNbO_3$ single crystal rods which had a diameter of 2 mm and a length of $15{\sim}25 mm$ were grown by micro-pulling down (${\mu}-PD$) method. The single crystals were successfully grown and had a uniform diameter and a smooth surface without crack. We realized of $LiNbO_3$ single crystals were hexagonal structure to compare with peaks of $LiNbO_3$ powder by Raman spectra. The threshold level of Zn concentration which is effective for optical damage were observed as about 1 mol% with IR transmission spectra.

  • Single crystals of $Yb^{3+}$ doped $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ up to 25 at.% were grown by the Czochralski method. Using the pulling rate of 0.8 mm/h and the rotation rate of 10 rpm, single crystals with diameters of up to 40 mm and lengths up to 160 mm were obtained. The growth atmosphere was either pure nitrogen or the mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. The crystal was bluish green when using pure nitrogen and the crystal was colorless when using the mixture of 99 % nitrogen and 1 % oxygen. The concentration of $Yb^{3+}$ ions decreased with increasing the length of the crystal and $Yb^{3+}$ concentration of core area was slightly higher than the other areas in the compositional analysis. The fluorescence lifetime decreased with increasing the doping concentration of $Yb^{3+}$ ions.

Defect Structure and Electrical Conductivities of $SrCe_{0.95}Yb_{0.05}O_3$ ($SrCe_{0.95}Yb_{0.05}O_3$의 결함엄개와 전기전도 특성)

  • 5 m/o Yb-doped SrCeO3 proton conductor was prepared by a solid state reaction method and its total electriccal conductivity measured as a function of both oxygen partial pressure and water vapor partial pressure in the temperature range of 500~100$0^{\circ}C$. From the total conductivity have been deconvoluted the partial conductivities of oxide ions, protons, and holes, respectively, on the basis of the defect model proposed. The equilibrium constant of hydrogen-dissolution reaction, proton concentration, and mobilities of oxygen vacancies and protons have subsequently been evaluated. It is verified that SrCe1-xYbxO3 is a mixed conductor of holes, protons and oxide ions and the proton conduction prevails as temperature decreases and water vapor pressure increases. The heat of water dissolution takes a representative value of $\Delta$HoH=-(140$\pm$20) kJ/mol-H2O, but tends to be less negative with increasing temperature. Migration enthalpies of proton and oxygen vacancy are extracted as 0.83$\pm$0.10 eV and 0.81$\pm$0.01 eV, respectively.

  • 다양한 증착 조건에서 마그네트론 2원 동시 방전법을 이용하여 유리기판위에 ITO (10wt% $SnO_2$ 타겟과 $Yb_{2}O_{3}$ 타겟을 사용하여 증착한 ITO:Yb 박막의 구조적, 전기적 특성을 연구하였다. 스퍼터 가스로서는 Ar 가스를 사용하였고, RF power가 0W이고 어닐링온도가 $200^{\circ}C$일 때, 가장 낮은 비저항 $2.442{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$을 나타내었다. ITO:Yb 박막의 전기적 특성은 Hall 효과 측정장비, 박막의 결정구조는 X-선 회절(XRD), 광학적 특성은 UV 측정장비를 사용하여 측정하였다.

Microwave Sol-Gel Derived NaGd(MoO4)2:Ho3+/Yb3+ Phosphors and Their Upconversion Photoluminescence Properties

  • Double molybdate $NaGd_{1-x}(MoO_4)_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ phosphors with proper doping concentrations of $Ho^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ ($x=Ho^{3+}+Yb^{3+}$, $Ho^{3+}=0$ and 0.05, and $Yb^{3+}=0$, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45, and 0.50) were successfully synthesized using the microwave sol-gel method. Well-crystallized particles formed after heat-treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ for 16 h showed fine and homogeneous morphologies with particle sizes of $1{\sim}3{\mu}m$. The spectroscopic properties were examined using photoluminescence emission and Raman spectroscopy. Under excitation at 980 nm, the upconversion doped samples exhibited strong yellow emissions, from the combination of strong emission bands at 545 nm and 655 nm in the green and red spectral regions, respectively. The strong 545 nm emission band in the green region corresponded to the $^5S_2/^5F_4{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition in the $Ho^{3+}$ ions, while the strong 655 nm band in the red region appeared because of the $^5F_5{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition in the $Ho^{3+}$ ions. The pump power dependence and the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage chromaticity of the upconversion emission intensity were evaluated in detail.
