분말송급장치의 개조에 의한 미세$5\mu\textrm{m}$ $Al_2O_3$분말의 송급 특성개선 및 플라즈마 용사조건에 따른 코팅층의 특성분석 (Improvement of Powder Feeding Characteristics of Fine$5\mu\textrm{m}$ $Al_2O_3$ Powder by Modification of the Powder Feeding Systems and Characterization of the Coating Layer depending on Plasma Spraying Conditions)

  • A scope of this study is to establish the optimum plasma spray conditions for fine ($5\mu\textrm{m}$) $Al_2O_3$ powder. However, the flowability of the $Al_2O_3$ powder is not so good because of irregular particle shape and fine particle size. Therefore, powder feeding system was modified by 1) change of powder feeding line material from polymer to copper 2) shorten the powder feeding tube length 3) heating the powder feeding system to $80^{\circ}C$4) vibrating the powder feeding line continuously, in order to feed the fine powder homogeneously. The homogeneous powder feeding conditions were obtained with the modified powder feeding system by controlling the powder carrier gas flow and the powder flow rate indicator. The best plasma spraying conditions for the fine $Al_2O_3$ powder were found out as 40kw gun power, 80 g/min. powder feed rate and 50 mm working distance after characterizing the microstructure, hardness and wear loss of the $Al_2O_3$ coating layer.

Changes in the Surface Characteristics of Gas-atomized Pure Aluminum Powder during Vacuum Degassing

  • Vacuum degassing is essential in the preparation of RS P/M aluminum alloys to remove adsorbates and for the decomposition of hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ on the powder surface. Changes in the surface characteristics during vacuum degassing were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption measurement. Hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ decomposition to crystalline-$Al_{2}O_3$ and hydrogen desorption on the surface of argon gas-atomized aluminum powder occurred at 623 K and 725 K, respectively. This temperature difference suggests that the reaction converting hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ to crystalline-$Al_{2}O_3$ during vacuum degassing should be divided into the two reactions $"2Al+Al_{2}O_3{\cdot}3H_2O\;2Al_{2}O_3+6H_{surf}"and"6H_{surf}3H_2"$.

  • Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 powders were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. Using soluble salts such as Pb(NO3)2, TiCl4 and ZrOCl2$.$8H2O and oxide such as PbO and TiO2 as starting materials, PZT powder was hydrothermally synthesized at the temperature range between 150$^{\circ}C$ and 200$^{\circ}C$. The result showed that reactivity by alkali was decreased in the sequence of Pb(NO3)2, TiCl4, ZrOCl2, PbO, TiO2 and ZrO2. Using the first three soluble salts, PZT powder was synthesiged at 150$^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. In PbO-TiCl4-ZrOCl2 system, PZT powder was synthesized at 150$^{\circ}C$ for 8rs. In Pb(NO3)2-TiO2-ZrOCl2 system, PZT powder was synthesized at 150$^{\circ}C$ for 16hrs, in PbO-TiO2-ZrOCl2 system, the powder was synthesized at 200$^{\circ}C$ for 8hrs.

  • The Powder characteristics and sintering behavior of $SiO_2$ coated $BaTiO_3$ were studied. Silica coated $BaTiO_3$ powders were prepared by sol-gel method. The particle size of the $BaTiO_3$ powders were $\sim35$ nm and the thickness of the $SiO_2$ coating layer was $\sim5$ nm. As the $SiO_2$ content increased, the $SiO_2$ layers improved the powder dispersion. The Zeta potential of $SiO_2$ coated $BaTiO_3$ was getting close to that of pure silica with a more negative charge, compared with that of the uncoated $BaTiO_3$. The onset temperature of shrinkage curves shifted to higher temperatures with increasing $SiO_2$ contents

재활용원료의 첨가량과 입경에 따른 재생 ${Al_2}{O_3}$ 세라믹스의 소결 특성 (Sintering Properties of Renewed ${Al_2}{O_3}$Ceramics with Particle Size and Addition Amount of Recycling Powder)

  • 재활용 $Al_2$O$_3$분말인 구조재료용 $Al_2$O$_3$세라믹스의 분쇄분말과 폐Al$_2$O$_3$흡착제의 첨가량과 입경에 따른 재생 $Al_2$O$_3$세라믹스의 소결특성을 조사하였다. 1,$650^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 소결한 순수 $Al_2$O$_3$시편을 급랭하여 분쇄한 -40과 +40$\mu$m의 $Al_2$O$_3$분말과 폐Al$_2$O$_3$흡착제를 순수한 $Al_2$O$_3$분말에 10~50wt% 첨가한 후, 재소결하여 재생 $Al_2$O$_3$세라믹스를 제조하였다. 재활용 $Al_2$O$_3$분말의 첨가량과 입경에 관계없이 소결온도가 증가함에 따라 시편의 밀도와 3점곡강도는 증가하였으나, 동일 소결온도에서는 재활용 $Al_2$O$_3$분말의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 밀도와 3점곡강도는 감소하였다. ~30wt%의 $Al_2$O$_3$분쇄분말(-40$\mu$m), ~20wt%의 $Al_2$O$_3$분쇄분말(+40$\mu$m) 및 10wt%의 폐Al$_2$O$_3$흡착제를 첨가한 시편의 3점곡강도는 200MPa 이상이었다. 재생 $Al_2$O$_3$시편의 치밀화를 위하여 5~20wt%의 폐유리분말을 첨가하여 1200~1$650^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 소결한 시편은 폐유리분말의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 최대 밀도와 3점곡강도를 나타내는 온도는 감소하였으나, 140$0^{\circ}C$이상에서는 페유리분말을 첨가하지 않은 시편에 비하여 밀도와 3점곡강도가 감소하여 재생 $Al_2$O$_3$세라믹스의 소결성 향상에는 기여하지 못하였다.

  • Aluminum-based $Al/Al_2O_3$ composites were fabricated by a powder-in sheath rolling method. A stainless steel tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1 mm was used as a sheath. A mixture of aluminum powder and $Al_2O_3$ particles of which volume content was varied from 5 to 20%, was filled in the tube by tap filling and then rolled by 75% reduction in thickness at ambient temperature. The rolled specimen was then sintered at 56$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 h. The mixture of Al powders and $Al_2O_3$ particles was successfully consolidated by the sheath rolling. The $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite fabricated by the sheath rolling showed a recrystallized structure, while unreinforced Al powder compact fabricated by the same procedure showed a deformed structure. The unreinforced Al powder compact was characterized by a deformation (rolling) texture of which main component is {112}<111>, while the $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite showed a mixed texture oi deformation and recrystallization. The sintering resulted in recrystallization in Al powder compact and grain growth in the composite.

RECYCLING PROCESS OF U3O8 POWDER IN MnO-Al2O3 DOPED LARGE GRAIN UO2 PELLETS

  • The effect of various process variables on the powder properties of recycled $U_3O_8$ from MnO-$Al_2O_3$ doped large grain $UO_2$ pellets and the effect of those recycled $U_3O_8$ powders on the sintered density and grain size of MnO-$Al_2O_3$ doped large grain $UO_2$ pellets have been investigated. The evolution of morphology, size, and BET surface area of the recycled $U_3O_8$ powders according to the respective variation of the thermo-mechanical treatment variables of oxidation temperature, powder milling, and sequential cyclic heat treatment of oxidation and then reduction was examined. The correlation between the BET surface area of recycled $U_3O_8$ powder and the sintered pellet properties of MnO-$Al_2O_3$ doped pellets showed that the pellet density and grain size of doped pellets were increased and then saturated by increasing the BET surface area of the recycled $U_3O_8$ powder. The density and grain size of the pellets were maximized when the BET surface area of the recycled $U_3O_8$ powder was in the vicinity of $3m^2/g$. Among the process variables applied in this study, the cyclic heat treatment followed by low temperature oxidation was a potential process combination to obtain the sinter-active $U_3O_8$ powder.

  • The powder-in sheath rolling was applied to the fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite. A stainless steel tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1 mm was used as a sheath. Mixture of aluminum powder and $Al/Al_2O_3$ particles of which volume content was varied from 5 to 20 vol.% was filled in the tube by tap filling and then rolled to 75% reduction at ambient temperature. The re]]ed specimen was sintered at 56$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hr. The $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite fabricated by the sheath rolling and subsequent sintering showed the relative density higher than 0.96. The tensile strength of the composite increased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles, and it reached a maximum of 90 MPa which is 1.5 times higher than unreinforced material. The elongation decreased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles. It is concluded that the powder-in sheath rolling is an effective method for fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite.

  • Processing and properties of $Al_2O_3$ composites with Ni-Fe content of 10 and 15 wt% were investigated. Homogeneous powder mixtures of $Al_2O_3$/Ni-Fe alloy were prepared by the solution-chemistry route using $Al_2O_3$, $Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $Fe(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ powders. Microstructural observation of composite powder revealed that Ni-Fe alloy particles with a size of 20nm were homogeneously dispersed on $Al_2O_3$ powder surfaces. Hot-pressed composites showed enhanced fracture toughness and magnetic response. The properties are discussed based on the observed microstructural characteristics.

MoO3-CuO 혼합분말의 볼 밀링 및 수소분위기 열처리에 의한 Mo-Cu 복합분말 제조 (Fabrication of Mo-Cu Powders by Ball Milling and Hydrogen Reduction of MoO3-CuO Powder Mixtures)

  • The hydrogen reduction behavior of $MoO_3-CuO$ powder mixture for the synthesis of homogeneous Mo-20 wt% Cu composite powder is investigated. The reduction behavior of ball-milled powder mixture is analyzed by XRD and temperature programmed reduction method at various heating rates in Ar-10% $H_2$ atmosphere. The XRD analysis of the heat-treated powder at $300^{\circ}C$ shows Cu, $MoO_3$, and $Cu_2MoO_5$ phases. In contrast, the powder mixture heated at $400^{\circ}C$ is composed of Cu and $MoO_2$ phases. The hydrogen reduction kinetic is evaluated by the amount of peak shift with heating rates. The activation energies for the reduction, estimated by the slope of the Kissinger plot, are measured as 112.2 kJ/mol and 65.2 kJ/mol, depending on the reduction steps from CuO to Cu and from $MoO_3$ to $MoO_2$, respectively. The measured activation energy for the reduction of $MoO_3$ is explained by the effect of pre-reduced Cu particles. The powder mixture, hydrogen-reduced at $700^{\circ}C$, shows the dispersion of nano-sized Cu agglomerates on the surface of Mo powders.
