Growth and magnetic properties of Tb, Eu, EuTb-substituted garnet single crystal films (Tb, Eu, EuTb가 치환된 가네트 단결정 막의 성장과 자기적 특성)

  • Using the $PbO-B_2O_3-Bi_2O_3$ flux system, $(TbBi)_3(FeAIGa)_5O_{12}(TbIG)$, $(EuBi)_3(FeAIGa)_5O_{12}(EuIG)$ and $(EuTbBi)_3(FeAIGa)_5O_{12}(EuTbIG)$ films were grown on $(GdCa)_3(GaMgZr)_5O_{12}(SGGG)$ substrates by the liquid phase epitaxy (LPE). The saturation magnetization of the grown TbIG, EuIG and EuTbIG films was about 150, 950 and 125 Oe, respectively. The TbIG films resulted in the single magnetic domain while the EuIG and EuTbIG films were observed to be the multi magnetic domains by magnetic force microscope (MFM).

High Photocatalytic Activity of Gd2O2S:Tb Modified Titanium Dioxide Films

  • $Fe_2O_3,\;Ag_2O,\;CaWO_4$ and $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb loaded on titanium dioxide photocatalysts (P25, Degussa) were prepared by a calcination. Their composite films containing water-born polyurethane used as a material for immobilization were obtained by spray coating technique. The photocatalytic activity of the titanium dioxide films was characterized by decrease of UV-vis absorption spectra for methylene blue and gas chromatography for photocatalytic decomposition of formaldehyde diluted in water. It was shown that the $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb modified titanium dioxide films had good photocatalytic properties and followed the first-order kinetic model with regard to photocatalytic decoloration of methylene blue. Especially in formaldehyde photodegradation experiment, decrease rate of concentration of the titanium dioxide films with $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb modifying was about 35% larger than that of the unloaded titanium dioxide film.

The Evaluation and Fabrication of Radiation Phosphor Screen for Non-destructive Testing using the Special Room Temperature Gel-printing Method (상온 겔프린팅 기법을 이용한 비파괴 검사용 방사선 증감지 제작 및 평가)

  • In this study, we developed a phosphor film screen that can be applied to radiographs during non-destructive testing using Gd2O2S:Tb phosphor compounds. The image uniformity of the fabricated phosphor screen film was analyzed by FE-SEM, RMS and RDS analysis. In addition, the tensile strength, elongation, and modulus of elasticity of the Gd2O2S:Tb phosphor screen were evaluated by measuring the stress-strain characteristic curve. As a result, it was evaluated that the RSD value had an excellent image uniformity within 10% of the evaluation criteria. In addition, as a result of evaluation of physical properties, the tensile strength was 1.1760 N/㎟, the tensile strength at break was 1.1515 N/㎟. These results suggest that the Gd2O2S:Tb phosphor screen fabricated using the room temperature gel-printing method could be applied to digital radiography detectors for radiography.

Defect Analysis of Gd2O2S : Tb Using Coincidence Doppler Broadening Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy (Gd2O2S:Tb의 동시 계수 도플러 양전자 소멸법에 의한 결함 특성)

  • Coincidence Doppler Broadening (CDB) of positron annihilation spectroscopy was applied to analyze defects in the chemical state of Department of Physics, $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb intensifying screens. The screen samples were irradiated by 80 MV X-rays in hospital and were used for 0, 2, 4, and 6 years respectively. There was a positive relationship between the S-parameter values and time of exposure to X-rays. Most of the defects were indicated to have been generated by X-rays. A 1D CDB was developed in order to reduce the background noise, and the S-parameter values of the $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb intensifying screens, using the 1D CDB, varied between 0.4974 and 0.4991.

  • Samples with nominal compositions of $RuSr_2(Eu_{1.34-x}Tb_xCe_{0.66})Cu_2O_z$ (x = 0, 0.67) were prepared and their superconductivity and magnetic properties were compared to shed light on the effect of Tb substitution for Eu. X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that the Tb substitution resulted in a decrease in both a and c lattice parameters in consistent with ionic size difference between Eu and Tb. Contrary to the Tb-free sample, no superconducting transition behavior is observed in the Tb-sustituted sample. It is also found that the Tb substitution for Eu significantly increases the weak-ferromagnetic component of the field-cooled magnetic susceptibility as well as an increase in the magnetic ordering temperature. These results suggest that the magnetic state of the Ru sublattice is significantly affected by the Tb substitution for Eu.

  • ZnS and TB-doped ZnS (ZnS:Tb) thin films were grown by traveling wave reactor atomic layer epitaxy (AKE) and characterized using materials and surface analysis techniques. $ZnCl_2$, $H_2$S,and tris(2,26,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptandionato) terbium ($Tb(TMHD)_3$) were used as the precursors in the growth of ZnS:Tb films. The dependence of Cl content in ZnS films on growth temperature was investigated using Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. The Cl content decreased from approximately 9 at.% to 1 at. % as increasing the growth temperature from 400 to $500^{\circ}C$. The segregation of Cl in near surface region was also observed by depth profiling using Auger electron spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopic studies showed that the ALE-grown ZnS and ZnS:Tb film during ALE process using $Tb(TMHD)_3$was also investigated. Approximately 1 at.% of O in ZnS:Tb(0.5 at.%) film which showed a good crystallinity of hexagonal 2H structure.

The Light Sensitivity and Angular Dependence of the $Mg_2SiO_4$:Tb(MSO-S) TLD ($Mg_2SiO_4$:Tb(MSO-S) TLD의 광감수성과 방향의존성)

  • The light sensitivity and angular dependence of the $Mg_2SiO_4$:Tb(MSO-5) TLD which affect the accuracy of the radiation dose measurement are investigated. Light-induced thermoluminescence of MSO-S TLD under the 200 lux fluorescent and the incandescent lamp for 8 hours are corresponding to 11 and 3 mR exposure, respectively. TL intensity ratio of the incident angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$ to normal incidence for MSO-S and badge type MSO-L are about 0.8 and 0.15, respectively.

Fluorescence Characteristics of Gd2O2S:Tb3+ Intensifying Screen According to Increase of Tube Voltage (관전압 증가에 따른 Gd2O2S:Tb3+ 증감지의 형광특성)

  • In this study, $Gd_2O_2S:Tb^{3+}$ was used as the component of the intensifying screen, and this study aims at analysis of fluorescent feature depending on the increase of tube voltage using spectrometer. When the released fluorescence was measured according to the increase of tube voltage, blue, green and red was observed, among which, $^5D_4-^7F_5$ which is applicable to green, was strongest. In addition, when the fluorescent of 50 kVp and 120 kVp were compared, 50 kVp was proved to release only 9.56% fluorescence of 120 kVp. In case when tube voltage which is higher than 100 kVp is used for the X-ray using $Gd_2O_2S:Tb^{3+}$ intensifying screen, the amount and strength of the fluorescence reaching the film increase drastically, so attention is demanded to get images of proper concentration.

  • (+)-$Tr{\ddot{o}}ger$'s base in $Tr{\ddot{o}}ger$'s base racemates that inhibits thromboxane A2($T{\times}A2$) synthase has been used to treat arteriosclerosis. Separation of (+)-$Tr{\ddot{o}}ger$'s base by chromatography has become a major concern. However separation experiments of (+)-$Tr{\ddot{o}}ger$'s base need time and consumables so that simulation with Aspen Chromatography could save time and costs by predicting the efficiency of separation. Injection amount and eluent flow rate were varied to compare the resolutions and yields of TB(-) and TB(+). Highest resolution and yield were attained at the eluent rate of 0.25 mL/min. Isotherms representing the relationship between mobile phase concentration and stationary phase concentration were changed to get the best separation with Ideal Adsorbed Solution(IAS) Statistical Lanmuir isotherms.

Fabrication of Gd2O2S:Tb fine scintillator film and evaluation of image quality for resolution improvement of X-ray imaging based on CMOS (CMOS 기반 X선 영상의 해상력 향상을 위한 Gd2O2S:Tb 미세형광체 필름 제작 및 영상 질 평가)

  • In this study, fine $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb powder was synthesized by using a low temperature solution-combustion method for a high-resolution digital x-ray imaging detector. From the fabricated phosphor power, the fine scintillator films was fabricated by particle sedimentation method and was investigated the luminescent property. From the experimental results of relative light output as a function of terbium concentration, the highest luminescent efficiency has at 5 wt% Tb concentration, and luminescent intensity decreased rapidly according to quenching effect about higher Tb concentration. Also, the relative light output of $270{\mu}m$-$Gd_2O_2S$:Tb film has 2945 pC/$cm^2$/mR. And light intensity was saturated at higher film thickness. Finally, to evaluate an image acquisition performance of fabricated phosphor, images were obtained by using commercial CMOS sensor and measured the MTF, NPS, and DQE. DQE(0 lp/mm) of fine phosphor film has 37%. But, DQE improvement of fine phosphor film is possible by resolving problem of film fabrication process and has a significant potential in the application of digital radiation imaging system later.
