In these days, diesel vehicle or power plant emits $NO_X\; and SO_2$ which cause air pollution like acid-rain, ozone layer destroy and optical smoke, therefore there are many kinds of methods considered for removing them such as SCR, catalyst, plasma process, and plasma-catalyst hybrid process. T$TiO_2$ is commonly used as catalyst to remove $NO_X$ gas because it have very excellent chemical characteristic as photo catalyst. In this paper, $NO_X$ sensing characteristic of $TiO_2$ thin film deposited by R.F Magnetron sputtering is investigated. A finger shaped electrode on $Al_2$O$_3$ substrate is designed and $TiO_2$ is deposited on the electrode by the magnetron sputtering deposition system. Chemical composition of the deposited $TiO_2$ thin film is $TiO_{1.9}$ by RBS analysis. When the UV is irradiated on it with flowing air, capacitance of $TiO_2$ thin film increases, however, when NO gas is put into the system with air, it immediately decreases because of photo chemical reaction. and it monotonously decreases with increasing NO concentration.
Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites were prepared by a sol-gel method using AC, ACF, CNT and $C_{60}$ as carbon precursors and were characterized by means of BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The activity of the prepared photocatalysts was investigated by degradation reaction of methylene blue (MB) irradiated with UV lamp. Effects of different carbon sources and irradiation time on photocatalytic activity were also investigated. The results showed that the photocatalytic activity of the Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites was much higher than that of pristine $TiO_2$ and Fe/$TiO_2$ composites. The prominent photocatalytic activity of Fecarbon/$TiO_2$ composites could be attributed to both the effects of photo-adsorption and electron transfer by carbon substrate. In addition, the higher photocatalytic activity of Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites can be compared with that of carbon/$TiO_2$ and Fe /$TiO_2$ composites due to cooperative effects between Fe and carbon.

The nitrogen oxidized substance(NOx) from cars in city is one of serious air-polution problems. In advanced country, the powder or the liquid photocatalystic for asphalt pavement and noise barrier have been used to reduce the air-polution. In this paper, the effect of photocatalystic on asphalt pavement has been evaluated, especially for UV optical science reactions analyzed NOx purification efficiencies of the automobile waste gas. Judging from the limited lab-scale test, the use of the powder or the liquid photocatalystic is one of alternatives to reduce the NOx from automobile.
The photocatalytic decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) was studied using immobilized $TiO_2$ and fluidized bed reactor. Immobilized $TiO_2$(length: 1$\~$2 mm, width: 1$\~$3 mm, thickness: 0.5$\~$2 mm) onto silicone sealant was employed as the photocatalyst and a 30 W germicidal lamp was used as the light source and the reactor volume was 4.8 L. The effects of parameters such as the amounts of photocatalyst, initial concentration, initial pH, superficial velocity, $H_2O_2$ and anion additives. ($NO_3^{-},\;SO_4^{2-},\;Cl^{-},\;CO_3^{2-}$) The results showed that the optimum dosage of the immobilized $TiO_2$ were 87.0 g/L. Initial removal rate of RhB of the immobilized $TiO_2$ was 1.5 times higher than that of the powder $TiO_2$ because of the adsorption onto the surface of immobilized $TiO_2$ In the conditions of acidic pH, initial reaction rate was increased slowly and reaction time was shorted. The effect of anion type on the reaction rate was not much.
A superoxide anion radical scavenger isolated from Capsella bursa-pastoris was characterized by infrared (IR) spectroscopy, sugar analysis, ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy, $^{1}H$ and $^{13}C$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies, and fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass analysis. The compound was assumed to be a flavonoid-O-glycoside from IR spectrum and UV absorption maxima. When the sugar composition of the compound was examined by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and gas chromatography (GC) of the acid hydrolysate, only glucose was detected. According to the results of UV spectrotroscopy by using shift reagents, the compound was supposed to be luteolin (5,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxy flavone) or chrysoeriol (5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone) with glucose. Based on $^{1}H$- and $^{13}C-NMR$ spectroscopies, the compound was deduced as 7,4'-dihydroxy-5,3'-dimethoxy-${\alpha}$-6-c-glucosyl-${\beta}$-2"-o-glucosyl flavone. In FAB mass analysis the compound was finally characterized as 7,4'-dihydroxy-5,3'-dimethoxy-${\alpha}$-6-c-glucosyl-${\beta}$-2"-o-glucosyl flavone ($C_{29}H_{34}O_{16}$, M.W.=638).
The pure product of 2,3-diaminophenazine was prepared by the enzyme-catalyzed reaction of ophenylenediamine-$H_2O_2$-horseradish peroxidase and characterized by UV/Vis spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and NMR spectroscopy. The electrochemical behaviour of 2,3-diaminophenazine on the glassy carbon electrode was studied. The interaction between 2,3-diaminophenazine and deoxyribonucleic acid was studied by cyclic voltammetry method and UV/Vis spectroscopy, which indicated that the interaction between them is intercalation. The influence of reacting time was also studied. The binding ratio of the 2,3-diaminophenazine-DNA complex is calculated to be 1 : 2 and the binding constant is to be $5.07{\times} 10^3L{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ at room temperature.
Photocatalytic reaction using $TiO_2$ thin film was applied for the inactivation of coliform bacteria and the degradation of formic acid. UV processes coupled with and without $TiO_2$ were tested for the river water samples. It took 5 and 15 minutes, respectively, to obtain 99% destruction of coliform bacteria in the total coliform test, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the photocatalytic reaction. Complete degradation of formic acid determined by TOC analysis was observed in 20 minutes by ozone/photocatalysis, while formic acid was degraded as little as about 20% during the first 100 minutes by ozone treatment alone. When ozone was supplied to the $TiO_2/UV$ system, however, it provided a synergetic effect for the degradation of formic acid.
Among the photoactive semiconductors such as $TiO_2,\;ZnO,\;Fe_2O_3,\;WO_3,\;and\;CdSe,\;TiO_2$ is the most widely used as photocatalyst in different media, because of its lack of toxicity and stability. In this study, the effects of titanium dioxide were investigated to obtain the information of physiological change in rice plant. Light-adapted Chlorophyll flourescence index decreased and relative electron transport rate of rice leaves was activated by titanium dioxide under $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ PAR (Photosynthetic active radiation). Relative electron transport rate of rice leaf treated with titanium dioxide 10 ppm was high in order of $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR,\;2,200\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR,\;450\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR$ and titanium dioxide 10 ppm (45.1%), control (32.4%), diuron 10 ppm (15.3%) under $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR$. Titanium dioxide increased photosynthesis of the rice leaf under $13.6\;KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ UV-B only. With titanium dioxide 20 ppm, reduced UV-B ($0.15\;KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$) intensity changed the induction of proteins and twenty-five proteins were identified. Among them, seventy proteins were up-regulated, four proteins were down-regulated and four proteins were newly synthesized. Function of these proteins was related to photosynthesis (52%), carbohydrate metabolism (4%), stress/defense (8%), secondary metabolism (4%), energy/electron transport (4%), and miscellaneous (28%).
We have studied superhydrophilic properties of TiO₂thin films in relation with those crystal structures due to the heat treatments. Thin films were fabricated on Si (100) wafers using a conventional Sol-Gel method. Following drying and sintering processes, TiO₂film had an anatase phase with additional heat treatment at 500℃, an rutile phase at 1000℃, and a mixture of anatase and rutile phase at 750℃. All these films got hydrophilic even without any UV illumination. Especially the sample treated at 750℃ had a superhydrophilic contact angle of 5°. We suggested that the superhydrophilic films should have a mixture of anatase and rutile phase for the best performance. The hydrophilic TiO₂films were slowly degraded into the hydrophobic state in the dark room but quickly recovered back with les than 1 hour of UV illumination.
Cotton fabrics dipped in cationic agent(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) were irradiated with deep Ultra Violet Rays(UV), in the region of UV-C using the low pressure mercury lamp. The chemical changes of cationized cotton fabric surfaces were investigated by FT-IR analysis. The dyeabilities of the irradiated portions were investigated by dyeing with acid dyes. Deep UV(UV-C) irradiation broke O-H bonds in cotton fiber and oxidized the fibers. The dyeability of the UV irradiated portion were different from that of the portion not irradiated. Various pattern were gained from one bath dig dyeing by pattern mask. The tensile strengths of cotton fabrics were decreased in the UV irradiated portion. Washing fastness of cotton dyeings were good about 3∼4 grade and light fastness were fair about 2∼3 grade.
