Apparent digestibility coefficients of the extruded pellet diets containing various fish meals for olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus

  • Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of dry matter, crude protein, crude lipid, energy, essential amino acids, and fatty acids in extruded pellets containing various fish meals were determined for olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). Eight extruded pellet diets were prepared to contain different fish meals (herring fish meal, anchovy fish meal, mackerel fish meal, sardine fish meal-A, sardine fish meal-B, tuna fish meal, pollock fish meal-A, and pollock fish meal-B) designated as HM, AM, MM, SM-A, SM-B, TM, PM-A, and PM-B, respectively. Chromic oxide ($Cr_2O_3$) was used as an inert indicator at a concentration of 0.5 % in the diet. Feces were collected from triplicate groups of fish ($151{\pm}4.0g$) using a fecal collection column attached to the fish rearing tank for 4 weeks. Dry matter ADCs of the MM, SM-A, SM-B, and PM-A diets were higher than those of all the other dietary groups, and the lowest digestibility of dry matter was observed in the PM-B diet. Fish fed the MM, SM-A, and PM-A diets showed significantly higher ADC of protein than those fed the AM, SM-B, TM, and PM-B diets. Lipid ADC of PM-B was significantly lower than that of the other diets. Energy ADCs of fish fed the MM, SM-A, and PM-A diets were significantly higher than those of the other diets. The availability of essential amino acids in the MM, SM-A, and PM-A diets were generally higher than that of the other fish meal diets, while TM showed the lowest values among all the experimental diets. ADCs of fatty acids in the AM, MM, SM-A, and PM-A diets were generally higher than those of fatty acids in the other diets, and the lowest values were recorded for the PM-B diet. These results provide information on the bioavailability of nutrients and energy in various fish meals which can be used to properly formulate practical extruded feeds for olive flounder.

표면처리방법이 지르코니아와 수종의 시멘트의 전단결합강도에 미치는 영향 (The influence of surface conditioning on the shear bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia ceramics)

  • 연구 목적: 이 연구의 목적은 표면처리방법이 지르코니아와 네 종류의 시멘트의 전단결합 강도에 미치는 영향을 평가하는 것이다. 연구 재료 및 방법: 총 120개의 디스크 모양의 산화 지르코늄 (3Y-TZP, Kyoritsu, Tokyo, Japan) 시편을 다음과 같이 표면처리 하였다: (1) $110\;{\mu}m$ 산화 알루미나 분사처리 (2) Silica coating ($Rocatec^{TM}$ 3M ESPE)를 이용한 표면처리 (3) 처리하지 않음. 각각의 표면 처리 후, 2종의 자가 접착형 시멘트 (RelyX Unicem, Maxcem)와 레진 강화 글라스 아이오노머 시멘트 (RelyX Luting), Bis-GMA 레진 시멘트 (Nexus3)를 시편에 부착하였으며 각 군은 UTM을 이용하여 전단결합강도를 측정하였다. 표면처리, 시멘트의 종류에 따른 결합강도의 차이를 살펴보기 위하여 일원변량분석 (One-way ANOVA)과 이원변량분석 (two-way ANOVA)을 이용하고 사후 분석으로 Tukey HSD test를 실시하였다. 결과: 로카텍 처리 후, RelyX Unicem을 부착한 군이 가장 높은 결합 강도를 보였으며 (P<.05) 알루미나 분사처리를 한 군과 로카텍 처리를 한 군은 아무런 처리를 하지 않은 군보다 유의하게 높은 결합 강도를 보였다 (P<.05). 또한 모든 표면상태에서 RelyX Luting은 다른 군에 비해 통계적으로 유의하게 가장 낮은 결합강도를 보였다 (P<.05). 결론: 본 연구의 결과에 따르면 RelyX Unicem은 지르코니아와 강한 결합력을 보였으며 로카텍 처리는 결합을 증진시키는데 효과적이었다.

Effect of TSHAC on Human Cytochrome P450 Activity, and Transport Mediated by P-Glycoprotein

  • TSAHC [4'-(p-toluenesulfonylamido)-4-hydroxychalcone] is a promising antitumorigenic chalcone compound, especially against TM4SF5 (four-transmembrane L6 family member 5)-mediated hepatocarcinoma. We evaluated the potential of TSAHC to inhibit the catalytic activities of nine cytochrome P450 isoforms and of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). The abilities of TSAHC to inhibit phenacetin O-deethylation (CYP1A2), coumarin 6-hydroxylation (CYP2A6), bupropion hydroxylation (CYP2B6), amodiaquine N-deethylation (CYP2C8), diclofenac 4-hydroxylation (CYP2C9), omeprazole 5-hydroxylation (CYP2C19), dextromethorphan O-demethylation (CYP2D6), chlorzoxazone 6-hydroxylation (CYP2E1), and midazolam 1'-hydroxylation (CYP3A) were tested using human liver microsomes. The P-gp inhibitory effect of TSAHC was assessed by [$^3H$]digoxin accumulation in the LLCPK1-MDR1 cell system. TSAHC strongly inhibited CYP2C8, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19 isoform activities with $K_i$ values of 0.81, 0.076, and $3.45{\mu}M$, respectively. It also enhanced digoxin accumulation in a dose-dependent manner in the LLCPK1-MDR1 cells. These findings indicate that TSAHC has the potential to inhibit CYP2C isoforms and P-gp activities in vitro. TSAHC might be used as a nonspecific inhibitor of CYP2C isoforms based on its negligible inhibitory effect on other P450 isoforms such as CYP1A2, CYP2A6, CYP2B6, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, and CYP3A.

Ni-22Cr-18Fe-9Mo계 ODS 합금의 미세조직 및 고온인장 특성 평가 (Microstructural Evaluation and High Temperature Mechanical Properties of Ni-22Cr-18Fe-9Mo ODS Alloy)

  • Yttrium oxide is one of the most thermo-dynamically stable materials, so that it is generally used as a dispersoid in many kinds of dispersion strengthed alloys. In this study, a nickel-base superalloy is strengthened by dispersion of yttrium oxide particles. Elemental powders with the composition of Ni-22Cr-18Fe-9Mo were mechanically alloyed(M.A.) with 0.6 wt% $Y_2O_3$. The MA powders were then HIP(hot isotactic press)ed and hot rolled. Most oxide particles in Ni-22Cr-18Fe-9Mo base ODS alloy were found to be Y-Ti-O type. The oxide particles were uniformly dispersed in the matrix and also on the grain boundaries. Tensile test results show that the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of ODS alloy specimens were 1.2~1.7 times higher than those of the conventional $Hastelloy^{TM}$ X(R), which has the same chemical compositions with ODS alloy specimens except the oxide particles.

Purification of Filamentous Bacteriophage M13 by Expanded Bed Anion Exchange Chromatography

  • In this paper, we investigated the development of a simplified and rapid primary capture step for the recovery of M13 bacteriophage from particulate-containing feedstock. M13 bacteriophage, carrying an insert, was propagated and subsequently purified by the application of both conventional multiple steps and expanded bed anion exchange chromatography. In the conventional method, precipitation was conducted with PEG/NaCl, and centrifugation was also performed. In the single step expanded bed anion exchange adsorption, UpFront FastLine$\_$TM/20 (20mm i.d.) from UpFront Chromatography was used as the contactor, while 54$m\ell$ (H$\_$o/=15cm) of STREAMLINE DEAE (p=1.2 g/㎤) from Amersham Pharmacia Biotechnology was used as the anion exchanger. The performance of the two methods were evaluated, analysed, and compared. It was demonstrated that the purification of the M13 bacteriophage, using expanded bed anion exchange adsorption, yielded the higher recovery percentage, at 82.86%. The conventional multiple step method yielded the lower recovery percentage, 36.07%. The generic application of this integrated technique has also been assessed.

광주지역 소 생고기 선호도 및 유통단계별 세균학적 분석 (Survey in consumers and distribution stages bacteriological analysis for fresh raw beef in Gwangju area, Korea)

  • Consumer's preference and microbial inspections on fresh raw beef were carried out to understand the actual market status in Gwanju, Korea. Over 15 questions on questionnaire by 1,111 randomly selected respondents between April and May in 2011, results showed 65.5% positive on eating fresh raw beef, 63.8% negative on good hygiene condition of fresh raw beef, and 72.5% positive on the secure of the hygiene-safety for priority program, respectively. For microbial inspections, a total of 302 samples were collected from fresh raw beef purchased from slaughterhouse (n=122), transport (n=69) and consumer (n=81) stage, from lettuce (n=30) at consumer stage. The aerobic plate count (APC), E. coli count and food borne bacteria such as Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus(S.) aureus and E. coli O157:H7 were tested in the samples. As results, the level of count on APC of fresh raw beef ranged $6{\times}10^1{\sim}1.8{\times}10^5CFU/g$ from slaughterhouse, $2{\times}10^2{\sim}8.3{\times}10^5CFU/g$ from transport stage and $1{\times}10^2{\sim}4{\times}10^5CFU/g$ from consumer stage. The level of count on E. coli of fresh raw beef ranged $1{\sim}9{\times}10^1CFU/g$ from slaughterhouse, $1{\sim}7{\times}10CFU/g$ from transport stage and $1{\sim}5.5{\times}10CFU/g$ from consumer stage. In total, 26 S. aureus were isolated, 10 (14.5%) from fresh raw beef at transport stage, 12 (14.8%) from fresh raw beef and 4 (13.3%) from lettuce at consumer stage. Enterotoxin of S. aureus was not detected among 26 isolates. All S. aureus isolates were typed using a DiversiLab$^{TM}$ rep-PCR system for genetic similarity test, showing over 95% of genetic relationship amon isolates.

철원분지 동막골응회암의 분출유형과 분출과정 (Eruption Styles and Processes of the Dongmakgol Tuff, Cheolwon Basin, Korea)

  • 동막골응회암은 대부분 화쇄류암으로 구성되지만 입도와 퇴적구조에 따라 암상을 분류하면 (1) 괴상응회각력암, (2) 용결 응회암 및 라필리응회암, (3) 유변상 응회암 및 라필리응회암이 있고 (4) 괴상 라필리응회암, (5) 성층화 라필리응회암, (6) 점이층리 라필리응회암, (7) 불량층리 라필리응회암과 (8) 괴상 세립질 응회암이 있다. 이 암상들은 상하로 3개 화성쇄설암군으로 구별하여 조합할 수 있다. 하부 화성쇄설암군(LI)은 괴상 라필리응회암, 용결 응회암 및 라필리응회암과 유변상 응회암 및 라필리응회암으로 조합되며, 화쇄류형성 분출로부터 끓어넘침 분출에 의한 화쇄류로부터 정치된 것이다. 중부 화성쇄설암군(LT+MI)은 하부에 성층화 라필리응회암, 점이층리 라필리응회암, 괴상 라필리응회암과 이들에 조합된 괴상 세립질 응회암으로 구성되고 중 상부에 괴상 라필리응회암, 용결 응회암 및 라필리응회암과 유변상 응회암 및 라필리응회암으로 조합된다. 이들은 외부물의 소량 유입으로 수증기마그마성 분출에 의한 화쇄써지로 시작하여 끓어넘침 분출의 화쇄류로 전환된 것이다. 상부 화성쇄설암군(lUT+uUT+UI)은 최하부에 성층화 라필리응회암, 점이층리 라필리응회암으로 조합되고, 하부에 괴상 응회각력암, 불량층리 라필리응회암, 괴상 라필리응회암과 괴상 세립질 응회암으로 조합되며 중 상부에 괴상 라필리응회암, 용결 응회암 및 라필리응회암으로 조합되며, 이들은 수증기플리니언 분출에 의한 써지로 시작해서 플리니언 분출에 의한 강하를 거쳐 끓어넘침 분출로 전환되어 화쇄류로부터 퇴적된 것이다. 결론적으로 동막골응회암에서 분출과정은 대체로 전 중 후기 화산작용이 단계별로 수증기플리니언 혹은 플리니언 분출로 시작하여 화쇄류형성 분출로 전환되고 끓어넘침 분출로 진행되는 순서를 밟았다. 그러나 전기 화산작용은 아마도 초엽의 수증기플리니언 혹은 플리니언 분출 없이 진행되었다.

SCL-90-R을 이용한 측두하악장애 환자의 정서적 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Emotional Characteristics of Temporomandibular Disorder Patients using SCL-90-R)

  • This study was attempted to identify the emotional characteristics of temporomandibular disorder patients. The author applied one of the self-report modes of psychological measurement, Symptom Chechlist-90-Revision. The subjects were 219 TM disorder patients who visited the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine, Seoul National University Hospital during the period from December 1985 to September 1986. All the patients were divided into subgroup according sex, age, duration of symptoms, presence or absence of T-scores of each symptom dimension and global index. The obtained result were as follows : 1. Mean value of T-scores of each symptom dimension and global of the overall patients was within normal range. The two higher mean values of T-scores among 9 symptom dimensions were those of SOM and ANX. 2. Mean values of T-scores of females were higher than those of males in the O-C, DEP, ANX, HOS, PSY dimensions and all global indices, and there was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the SOM dimension between males and female(P<0.05). 3. There was no significant difference between the subgroup under 30 years and the subgroup 30 years or older. 4. The subgroup with symptoms for 6 months or longer showed the higher mean values of T-scorers in the SOM, O-C, I-S, DEP, ANX, PHOB, PAR, PSY dimensions and all global indices compared with the subgroup with symptoms for shorter than 6 months. 5. The subgroup with pain showed the higher mean values of T-scores in all the symptom dimensions except the PAR in comparison with the subgroup with other complaints than pain, and there was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the PST index between the pain subgroup and the non-pain subgroup(P<0.05). There was a significant difference in the distribution of T-scores of the PHOB dimension between the high-school graduates subgroup and the college graduates subgroup(P<0.05).

포장 필름의 종류에 따른 저장 중 콩나물의 품질특성 (Quality characteristics of soybean sprouts packaged with different packaging materials during their storage)

  • 포장 콩나물의 유통 중 품질향상을 위한 기초연구를 실시하고자 포장 필름의 종류 및 산소투과도에 따른 저장 중 포장 콩나물의 품질 변화를 조사하였다. 시판 중인 비포장 벌크 콩나물(제조일로부터 1일) 각 $320{\pm}20g$을 산소투과율 $3,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$ 범위의 다양한 포장 필름으로 밀봉포장하고 $5^{\circ}C$에서 7일간 저장하면서 품질변화를 측정하였다. 품질유지에 적합한 산소투과도 선정을 위한 예비 실험 결과 산소유지율이 높은 $10,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$의 산소투과도를 가지는 OPP 필름(대조구)과 $15,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$의 산소투과도를 가지는 OPP (OP15) 및 CPP (CP15) 필름을 선정하였고, 이들 필름으로 포장한 콩나물의 저장 중 중량감소율, pH, 산소, 이산화탄소 및 관능적 품질변화를 조사하였다. 저장 중 중량감소율은 모든 구에서 10% 미만으로 OP15의 중량감소율이 가장 작게 나타났다. 저장 중 pH는 저장일의 증가에 따라 증가하고 있으며 유의적인 차이는 없으나 CP15에서 더 크게 나타났다. 저장에 따른 포장 내부의 산소함량은 감소하고 이산화탄소의 함량은 증가하고 있는데, 산소투과율이 높을수록 저장 중 높은 산소유지율을 나타내었다. 이산화탄소의 축적률은 저장 7일경 대조구와 OP15, CP15 각각에서 15.6%, 15.4% 및 14.3%로 대조구에서 가장 높은 수준의 축적률을 나타내었다. 저장 중의 관능품질은 저장 7일경 상업적 품질이 상실되어 OP15의 경우 강한 이취가 CP15에서 강한 녹변이 발생하였다.

Clinical Utility of an Automated Pupillometer in Patients with Acute Brain Lesion

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility and validity of using a pupillometer to assess patients with acute brain lesions. Methods : Pupillary examinations using an automated pupillometer ($NeurOptics^{(R)}NPi^{TM}$-100 Pupillometer) were performed every 4 hours and were simultaneously assessed using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and for intracranial pressure (ICP), from admission to discharge or expire in neuro-intensive care unit (NICU). Manual pupillary examinations were also recorded for comparison. By comparing these data, we evaluated the validity of using automated pupillometers to predict clinical outcomes. Results : The mean values of the Neurologic Pupillary index (NPi) were different in the groups examined manually. The GCS correlated well with NPi values, especially in severe brain injury patients (GCS below 9). However, the NPi values were weakly correlated with intracranial pressure (ICP) when the ICP was lower than 30 cm $H_2O$. The NPi value was not affected by age or intensity of illumination. In patients with a "poor" prognosis who had a Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) of 1 or 2, the mean initial NPi score was $0.88{\pm}1.68$, whereas the value was $3.89{\pm}0.97$ in patients with a "favorable" prognosis who had a GOS greater than 2 (p<0.001). For predicting clinical outcomes, the initial NPi value of 3.4 had the highest sensitivity and specificity. Conclusion : An automated pupillometer can serve as a simple and useful tool for the accurate measurement of pupillary reactivity in patients with acute brain lesions.
