T1-weighted MR Imaging of the Neonatal Brain at 3.0 Tesla: Comparison of Spin Echo, Fast Inversion Recovery, and Magnetization-prepared Three Dimensional Gradient Echo Techniques (3T 자기공명영상 장비에서 신생아 뇌의 T1 강조 영상: 스핀에코, 고속 역전회복, 자기화 삼차원 경사에코기법의 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of fast inversion recovery (FIR) and magnetization-prepared three dimensional gradient echo sequence (3D GRE) T1-weighted sequences for neonatal brain imaging compared with spin echo (SE) sequence in a 3T MR unit. Materials and Methods: T1-weighted axial SE, FIR and 3D GRE sequences were evaluated from 3T brain MR imaging in 20 neonates. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of different tissues was measured and contrast-to-noise ratios (CNR) were determined and compared in each of the sequences. Visual analysis was carried out by grading gray-white matter differentiation, myelination, and artifacts. The Wilcoxon signed ranked test was used for evaluation of the statistical significance of CNR differences between the sequences. Results: Among the three sequences, the 3D GRE had the best SNRs. CNRs obtained with FIR and 3D GRE were statistically superior to those obtained with SE; these CNRs were better on the 3D GRE compared to the FIR. Gray to white matter differentiation and myelination were better delineated on the FIR and 3D GRE than the SE. However, motion artifacts were more commonly observed on the 3D GRE and flow-related artifacts of vessels were frequently seen on the FIR. Conclusion: FIR and 3D GRE are valuable alternative T1-weighted sequences to conventional SE imaging of the neonatal brain at 3T providing superior image quality.

Effect of Feeding Probiotics on Physico-chemical Properties and Sensory Evaluation of Pork (생균제의 급여가 돈육의 이화학적 성상 및 관능에 미치는 영향)

  • A total of 120 pigs were used to investigate the effect of feeding probiotics on physico-chemical properties and sensory evaluation of pork loin. About 50kg pigs were randomly alloted into one of six experimental diet groups (C1:commercial diet feed the gilt; C2:commercial diet feed the barrow; T1:$0.5\%$ YC2000 feed the gilt T2:$0.5\%$ YC2000 feed the barrow; T3:$0.1\%$ YC2000 + $0.3\%$ KBC1121 feed the gilt; T4:$0.1\%$ YC2000 + $0.3\%$ KBC1121 feed the barrow). Pigs were slaughtered at approximately 110kg live weight. Crude fat and crude ash were not difference among the treatments. However, water content was higher in T1 and T2 compared to other treatment and the protein level of T3 was higher than those of other treatments. All of dietary probiotic groups showed higher pH compared to control. Especially, pH of T1 and T2 were higher among the dietary probiotic groups. Cholesterol level of dietary probiotic groups were lower compared to control. In meat color, $a^{*}$ was higher in T1 and $b^{*}$ was lower in T2 compared to other treatments. In sensory evaluation of cooked meat, aroma, flavor, tenderness, juiciness and overall palatability were higher in control, whereas T3 and T4 showed higher score in tenderness, juiciness and overall palatability. T3 had higher myristic acid. palmitoleic acid and oleic acid, whereas arachidonic acid was lower in T3. In conclusion, dietary probiotic groups were much better than other treatments in cholesterol, color, tenderness and juiciness. But drip loss of dietary probiotic groups showed higher due to lower pH compared to control.

Performance of Crossbred Gilts Fed on Diets with Higher Levels of Fat and Fibre through Addition of Rice Bran

  • Crossbred gilts (n=54) of about $26.38{\pm}0.85kg$ body weight and 25 weeks of age were randomly divided into 18 groups of 3 animals each. Three dietary treatments viz., $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$ were formulated. The treatment $T_1$ containing maize grain (35%) and wheat bran (47%) along with soybean meal and fish meals served as control diet. Rice bran (RB) was selected as a single source of fat (13.02%) and fibre (17.12%), which was gradually increased in diets $T_2$ (41%) and $T_3$ (82%) replacing maize grain and wheat bran of $T_1$ at 50% and 100% in the diets $T_2$ and $T_3$, respectively. The fat and fibre levels of the diets were thus 3.46 and 5.24, 9.31and 9.69 and 11.61and 13.26% in $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$, respectively. All the diets, however, contained almost similar concentration of CP (18.35${\pm}0.29%$). Each dietary treatment was offered to six replicated groups of 3 piglets in following completely randomized design and feeding was continued for 112 days during the growing phase. Growth, feed utilization, reproductive performance, nutrient utilization and different blood biochemical parameters were studied. Growth rate, feed intake and feed conversion were lower (p<0.01) in $T_3$ in comparison to $T_1$ or $T_2$. Digestibility of all the nutrients except EE was reduced significantly (p<0.01) in $T_3$. Serum glucose level decreased (p<0.01), whereas the urea and cholesterol concentration in the blood increased (p<0.01) in $T_3$. The duration of estrus of pigs fed diet containing 82% RB ($T_3$) was highly variable within the group, but all the groups showed statistically similar duration of estrous. Feed cost per unit gain was found to be comparable between control ($T_1$) and $T_2$ group. The results indicated that RB can be included up to 41% in swine diets replacing 50% of maize and wheat bran. Higher concentrations of ether extract and fibre beyond 9.31 and 9.69% in diet had detrimental effect on growth, nutrient utilization and reproductive performance.

  • TNAZ is a high explosive material because it is a highly strained ring compound containing one nitramine and gem dinditro groups. 1-t-butyl-3-nitroazetidine which was used as an intermediate previously, which declined the overall yield in synthesizing TNAZ. We obtained 1-t-butyl-3-hydroxymethyl-3-nitroazetidine in 64% yield from advances process which was used in synthesis of 1-t-butyl-3-nitroazetidine. The reaction pathway, shortening of reaction time, together with improvement of yield were studied too. We have obtained TNAZ in 85% yield.

Effect of Massages on The Skeletal Muscles of Sciatic Nerve Neurectomized ddY Mice (마사지가 좌골신경 절단 마우스의 골격근에 미치는 영향)

  • To demonstrate the effect of massages on the skeletal muscles of immobilization ddY mice models induced by right side sciatic nerve neurectomy, the cross sectional histological profiles of the muscularis (M) gastrocnemius, M. tibialis cranialis and M. tibialis caudalis were observed after 28 days of treatment of massages with the changes of body weight, thickness of hind limb and individual muscle weights. In addition, changes of serum aspartate amino- transferase (AST) and creatine phosphokinase (CK) levels were also demonstrated with diameter of individual muscle fiber and muscle fasciculata, and number of muscle fiber in each of three types of muscles located in the calf. The experimental groups were divided into five groups, 1) Sham-operated group (Sham), 2) Neurectomized but not massage control group (Control), 3) Neurectomized and massage at knee joint regions (T1), 4) Neurectomized and massage at calf regions (T2), and 5) Neurectomized and massages at achilles tendon regions (T3). The experimental animals were used 5 per groups. The results are as follow: 1. No significant changes of body weight were demonstrated in this groups during whole experimental periods compared to that of Sham group. In addition, no significant changes of body weight gains during experimental periods (Day 0 - Day 27: 28 days of treatment) were also observed. 2. The thickness of intact left side hind limb was not changes in all tested groups compared to that of Sham group. However, the thickness of right side hind limb were remarkedly decreased in Control, T1, T2 and T3 groups compared to that of Sham group. In addition, the differences of thickness of hind limb between right and left sides were also significantly increased in Control and massage groups (T1, T2 and T3) compared to that of Sham group. However, the thickness of right side of hind limb were significantly increased and the differences of thickness between both sides of hind limb were dramatically decreased in massage groups compared to that of Control group in followed order: T1 > T3 > T2. 3. Absolute and relative weight of M. gastrocnemius in the intact left side of hind limb was not changes in all tested groups compared to that of Sham group. However, the weight of right side M. gastrocnemius were remarkedly decreased in Control, T1, T2 and T3 groups compared to that of Sham group. In addition, the differences of weight of M. gastrocnemius between right and left sides were also significantly increased in Control and massage groups compared to that of Sham group. However, the weight of right side M. gastrocnemius were significantly increased and the differences of weight between both sides of M. gastrocnemius were dramatically decreased in massage groups compared to that of Control group in followed order: T3 > T1 >. 4. Absolute and relative weight of M. tibialis cranialis in the intact left side was not changes in all tested groups compared to that of Sham group. However, the weight of right side M. tibialis caudalis were significantly increased and the differences of weight between both sides of M. tibialis caudalis were dramatically decreased in massage groups compared to that of Control group in followed order: T3 > T1 > T2. 6. A significant increase of serum AST levels were demonstrated in Control group. However, serum AST levels of massage groups were significantly decreased compared to that of Control group in followed order: T3 > T1 > T2. In case of 73 group, the values decreased into similar levels compared to that of Sham group. 7. A significant increase of serum CK levels were demonstrated in Control group. However, serum CK levels of massage groups were significantly decreased compared to that of Control group in followed order: T3 > T1 > T2.

  • DWI of biological effects are independent of magnetic field strength in various regions. High field strength, however, does affect the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and artifacts of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) images, which ultimately will influence the quantitative of diffusion imaging. In this study, the effects of field strength on DWI are reviewed. The effects of the diseases also are discussed. Comparing DWI in cerebellum, WM, GM, Hyperacute region measurements both as a function of field strength (1.5T and 3.0T). Overall, the SNR of the DWI roughly doubled going from 1.5 T to 3.0 T. In summary, DWI studies at 3.0 T is provided significantly improved DWI measurements relative to studies at 1.5T.

  • In this paper, the 3D positioning of IoT sensors with the Unity engine of android platform based home-hub was proposde for IoT(Internet of Things) users. Especially, the monitoring of IoT sensor and battery status was designed with the clustering of IoT sensor's position. The 3D positioning of RSSI(received signal strength indicator) and angle for new IoT sensor according to clustering method was described with the cooperation of beacon and received arrival signal time. This unity engine based smart hub platform can monitor the working situation of IoT sensors, and apply 3D video with texture for the life-cycling of many IoT sensors simultaneously. rs was described with RSSI(received signal strength indicator) and received angle.

Nutrient Removal Characteristics on Organic Material Loadings in Submerged Flat Sheet Type Sequencing Batch Membrane Reactor (침지식 평판형 연속회분식 박반응기에서 유입 유기물 부하의 변화에 따른 영양염류의 제거 특성)

  • The effect of organic material loadings on nutrient removal characteristics were investigated in sequencing batch reactor, in which a flat sheet type microfiltration membrane with a pore size of $0.4\;{\mu}m$ was submerged. Three organic concentrations of 200 mg/L (Run-1), 400 mg/L (Run-2) and 800 mg/L (Run-3) were carried out continuously to identify their effect on the filtration performance and nutrient removal. The removal efficiencies of T-N and T-P were increased with the increase of COD/N and COD/P. The T-N removal efficiencies of Run-1, Run-2 and Run-3 were 28.1, 32.6 and 90.4%, the average concentrations of T-N in permeate were 32.0, 30.0, and 4.3 mg/L, respectively. The T-P removal efficiencies of Run-1, Run-2 and Run-3 were 13.6, 35.3 and 93.1%, the average concentrations of T-P in permeate were 3.11, 2.33, and 0.25 mg/L, respectively.

Trans Fatty Acid Isomers of Processed Foods Commonly Consumed in Korea (한국인 상용 가공식품의 trans 지방산 이성체)

  • This study was designed to determine the distribution of trans fatty acids (tFAs) isomers of Processed foods commonly consumed in Korea. The tFAs positional isomers were analyzed using GC/MS spectrometer with HP-23 cis/trans FAME, capillary column (50m $\times$ 0.20 mm, id., 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ film thickness) for 41 food samples. TFAs isomers were identified by comparing retention time with standards and GC/MS spectrum. In margarines, the content of tFAs ranged from 4.0% to 25.16% and the most abundant positional isomer of tFAs was C18:1 $\Delta$9t. In oils and fats, lards contained higher levels of tFAs (5.70~16.54%) than shortenings (6.77~10.55%). Shortenings contained higher levels of C18:1 $\Delta$9t (3.1~5.1%) than lard (1.6~4.3%), but corn oils had no tFAs. In seasonings, mayonnaise had no C16:1 $\Delta$9t, whereas C18:3t was detected. The content of tFAs in confectioneries was wide (16.20~52.16%). Among them, instant popcorns contained the highest amount of tFAs. Milk and dairy products showed even distribution of tFAS such as C18:1t, C18:2t, and C18:3t. Predominant tFAS isomer of condensed milk and ice cream was C16:1 $\Delta$9t. Frozen french fries and fried chicken contained higher levels of C18:1$\Delta$9t (9.4%), whereas grilled pork (jowl) had no C18:1 $\Delta$9t. The amount of tFAs per serving size was the highest in popcorn, followed by frozen pizza, frozen french fries, fried chicken, and bakeries.

Antioxidant and Anti-Adipogenic Activities of Bread Containing Corn Silk, Job's Tears, Lentinus edodes, and Apple Peel in 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes (옥수수수염, 율무, 표고버섯 그리고 사과껍질을 함유한 빵의 항산화 및 3T3-L1 지방 전구세포 분화 억제 활성)

  • Corn silk, Job's tears, Lentinus edodes, and apple peel 70% ethanol extracts (CS, JT, LE, and AP) were studied for their antioxidant activities. CS among all extracts showed the highest antioxidant activities based on total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, 2,2-diphenyl-${\beta}$-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) radical scavenging activity, and reducing power. Adipocyte differentiation was investigated by Oil Red O staining assay using CS, JT, LE, AP, and extract of developed bread containing corn silk, Job's tears, Lentinus edodes, and apple peel (DB) treated to 3T3-L1 adipocytes. DB1 and DB2 showed anti-adipogenic and antioxidant effects. Triglyceride (TG) accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells was measured, and among the samples tested (CS, JT, LE, and AP), CS was found to have the highest inhibitory activity against TG accumulation of differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes and regulated factors associated with adipogenesis. CS suppressed lipid droplet formation and adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells in a dose-dependent manner. We examined the effects of CS on the levels of CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein ${\beta}(C/EBP{\beta})$, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor ${\gamma}(PPAR{\gamma})$, and adipocyte-specific lipid binding protein (aP2) mRNA as well as protein levels in 3T3-L1 cells treated with CS at various concentrations (0, 10, 50, and $100{\mu}g/mL$) during adipocyte differentiation and treatment with CS in 3T3-L1 adipocytes down-regulated expression of $PPAR{\gamma}$ and aP2 mRNA. CS also significantly inhibited up-regulation of $C/EBP{\beta}$, $PPAR{\gamma}$, and aP2 proteins during adipocyte differentiation. These data indicate that DBs have anti-adipogenic activity induced by CS in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, and CS exerts anti-adipogenic activity by inhibiting expression of $C/EBP{\beta}$, $PPAR{\gamma}$, and aP2 signaling pathway in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. JT, LE, and AP had no inhibitory effects on differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes but displayed strong antioxidant effects. These results suggest that the developed bread may be a health beneficial food that can prevent or treat obesity and diseases induced by oxidative stress.
