To investigate the plant community structure of Paekdam-Valley in Soraksan National Park, fifty-two plots have been set up and surveyed. By DCA ordination technique, the plant communities were classified into fkve community types, which were Pinus densiflora community and Q. mongolica community. It was supposed that Q. serrata community change to C. laxiflora community. It seemed that P. densiflora community, deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest and Q. serrata community would not be replace by another woody species. And it seemed that C. laxiflora community succeeded to Q. serrata community, so it was similar to the typical ecological succession of natural forest in the middle temperate regions. The range of Shannon's diversity index was 0.9827~1.2946(Unit area : 400m$^2$) and that was over another Korean National Parks area relatively.
The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of dietary coenzyme $Q_{10}$ on mitochondrial coenzyme $Q_{10}$ and fatty acid composition in adriamycin (ADR)-treated rats. Two experiments were conducted in rats. Experiment 1 was undertaken under the condition of simultaneous administration of ADR and coenzyme $Q_{10}$ for 4 weeks. Experiment 2 was undertaken under the same condition as experiment 1 after feeding the experimental diets alone without administration of ADR for 4 weeks. Heart mitochondrial coenzyme $Q_{10}$ level of rats was greatly decreased by ADR treatment. but higher level of dietary coenzyme $Q_{10}$ elevated this decrease to control ranges. Pretreatment with dietary supplementation of coenzyme $Q_{10}$ showed a significant increase in myocardial coenzyme $Q_{10}$ level. With ADR treatment. polyunsaturated fatty acids such as arachidonic acid (20 : 4) and docosahexaenoic acid (22 : 6) were decreased. However, dietary supplementation of coenzyme $Q_{10}$ modified this decrement to some extent. In both experiment 1 and 2. the polyunsaturated fatty acids/saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (P/S+ M) ratio of ADR-treated rats tended to be lower than that of control rats.
Four Quercus forests in Mt. Mohu were studied to investigate biomass, net production and effective biomass estimation method. Five $10m{\times}10m$ quadrats were set up, ten sample trees were cut and roots of three sample trees were excavated for dimension analysis in each forest. There was little difference in accuracy among three allometric biomass regression models of logWt=A+BlogD, $logWt=A+BlogD^2H$ and logWt=A+BlogD+ClogH, where Wt, D and H were dry weight, DBH and height, respectively. Analysis of covariance showed that there were no significant differences among slopes and intercepts of allometric biomass regressions, logWt=A+BlogD, of four Quercus species. Biomass of Q. acutissima, Q. nariabilis, Q. serrata and Q. mongolica forests were 164.0, 158.9, 115.3 and 118.9t/ha, respectively. Net production of Q. acutissima, Q. variabilis. Q. serrata and Q. mongolica forests were 25.0, 23.2, 14.5 and 12.6t/ha/yr., respectively. The proportion of roots to total biomass and total net production of Q. mongolica forest was higher than that of three other species forests. Net assimilation ratio of Q. acutissima, Q. variabilis, Q. serrata and Q. mongolica forests were 2.87, 2.80, 3.20 and 2.95, respectively. Relatively less leaf biomass of Q. serrata and Q. mongolica forests were the reason why total biomass and total net production of Q. serrata and Q. mongolica forests were less than those of Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis.

The fast-growing market in wireless communications has led to the development of multi-standard mobile terminals. In this paper, a frequency-tunable active RC bandpass filter for multi-standards wireless communication system is designed using an active inductor. The conventional bandpass filter design methods employ the high order filter or high quality factor Q to improve the stopband attenuation characteristics and frequency selectivity of the passband. The proposed bandpass filter based on the high Q active inductor has an improved frequency characteristics. The center frequency and gain of the designed bandpass filter is tuned by employing the tuning circuit. We have performed the simulation using TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ process parameter to analyze the characteristics of the designed active RC bandpass filter. The bandpass filter with Q=20.5 has 90MHz half power bandwidth at the center frequency of 1.86GHz. Moreover, the center frequency of the proposed bandpass filter can be tuned between 1.86~2.38GHz for the multi-standards wireless communication system using the capacitor of the tuning circuit.
Cystoisospora is responsible for morbidity in immunocompromised patients. PCR is sensitive for diagnosing Cystoisospora; however, it needs reevaluation for differential molecular diagnosis of cystoisosporiasis. We aimed at evaluating melting curve analysis (MCA) after real-time PCR (qPCR) in diagnosis and genotyping of Cystoisospora as an alternative to conventional PCR. We included 293 diarrheic stool samples of patients attending the Department of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine of Cairo University Hospitals, Egypt. Samples were subjected to microscopy, nested PCR (nPCR), and qPCR targeting the internal transcribed spacer 2 region (ITS2) of the ribosomal RNA (r RNA) gene followed by melting temperatures ($T_ms$) analysis and comparing the results to PCR-RFLP banding patterns. Using microscopy and ITS2-nPCR, 3.1% and 5.8% of cases were Cystoisospora positive, respectively, while 10.9% were positive using qPCR. Genotyping of Cystoisospora by qPCR-MCA revealed 2 genotypes. These genotypes matched with 2 distinct melting peaks with specified $T_ms$ at $85.8^{\circ}C$ and $88.6^{\circ}C$, which indicated genetic variation among Cystoisospora isolates in Egypt. Genotype II proved to be more prevalent (65.6%). HIV-related Kaposi sarcoma and leukemic patients harbored both genotypes with a tendency to genotype II. Genotype I was more prevalent in lymphomas and mammary gland tumors while colorectal and hepatocellular tumors harbored genotype II suggesting that this genotype might be responsible for the development of cystoisosporiasis in immunocompromised patients. Direct reliable identification and differentiation of Cystoisospora species could be established using $qPCR-T_ms$ analysis which is useful for rapid detection and screening of Cystoisospora genotypes principally in high risk groups.
Biomass expansion factors, which convert timber volume (or dry weight) to biomass, are used for estimating the forest biomass and accounting for the carbon budget at a regional or national scale. We estimated the biomass conversion and expansion factors (BCEF), biomass expansion factors (BEF), root to shoot ratio (R), and ecosystem biomass expansion factor (EBEF) for Quercus mongolica Fisch. and Quercus variabilis Bl. forests based on publications in Korea. The mean BCEF, BEF, and R for Q. mongolica was 1.0383 Mg/$m^3$ (N = 27; standard deviation [SD], 0.5515), 1.3572 (N = 27; SD, 0.1355), and 0.2017 (N = 32; SD, 0.0447), respectively. The mean BCEF, BEF, and R for Q. variabilis was 0.7164 Mg/$m^3$ (N = 17; SD, 0.3232), 1.2464 (N = 17; SD, 0.0823), and 0.1660 (N = 8; SD, 0.0632), respectively. The mean EBEF, as a simple method for estimating the ground vegetation biomass, was 1.0216 (N = 7; SD, 0.0232) for Q. mongolica forest ecosystems, and 1.0496 (N = 8; SD, 0.0725) for Q. variabilis forest ecosystems. The biomass expansion factor values in this study may be better estimates of forest biomass in Q. mongolica or Q. variabilis forests of Korea compared with the default values given by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
A Cr:YAG crystal was used as a saturable absorber for passive Q-switching of a Nd:$YVO_4$ laser which was pumped by a 1-W continuous wave laser diode. The first surface of the Cr:YAG was high-reflection coated for the pump wavelength. The high-reflection coating improved the absorption efficiency of the pump beam in the Nd:$YVO_4$ through double pass absorption. It also prevented pump beam induced partial bleaching of the Cr:YAG. The peak-to-peak pulse fluctuation of passively Q-switched laser output was approximately 4 %. The minimum pulse-width was measured to be 7.11 ns. Also, the average pulse repetition rate was 9 kHz and the maximum output power was 16.27 mW.
Effects of direct multiple quantum excitations in vibrational energy transfer were investigated. Vibrational transition probabilities for 0${\rightarrow}$2, 0${\rightarrow}$3, and 0${\rightarrow}$4 excitations were explicitly formulated including both direct 0→n excitations and stepwise single quantum processes. For the formulation the perturbing force was derived from the exponential potential including terms up to fourth order in the vibrational amplitude. The head-on collinear collision model between a harmonic oscillator and an incident particle was employed, and the formulation was based on the semiclassical approximation. Numerical results were obtained for five different collision systems (Ar${\cdots}$O-N, He${\cdots}$H-H, He${\cdots}$H-Cl, 5${\cdots}$1-2, 2${\cdots}$12-12). Comparison between the present results and those obtained using the linearized interaction potential showed that the overall effect of including the direct multiple quantum transition is to decrease the probabilities at low collision energies and to increase them at high energies. The present results were found to be significantly different from those obtained using the linearized potential for collision systems He${\cdots}$H-H, He${\cdots}$H-Cl, and 5${\cdots}$1-2. For systems Ar${\cdots}$O-N and 2${\cdots}$12-12 the differences were negligible.
Background: This study investigated the temporal variation in soil $CO_2$ efflux and its relationship with soil temperature and precipitation in the Quercus glauca and Abies koreana forests in Jeju Island, South Korea, from August 2010 to December 2012. Q. glauca and A. koreana forests are typical vegetation of warm-temperate evergreen forest zone and sub-alpine coniferous forest zone, respectively, in Jeju island. Results: The mean soil $CO_2$ efflux of Q. glauca forest was $0.7g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}\;h^{-1}$ at $14.3^{\circ}C$ and that of A. koreana forest was $0.4g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}\;h^{-1}$ at $6.8^{\circ}C$. The cumulative annual soil $CO_2$ efflux of Q. glauca and A. koreana forests was 54.2 and $34.2t\;CO_2\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. Total accumulated soil carbon efflux in Q. glauca and A. koreana forests was 29.5 and $18.7t\;C\;ha^{-1}$ for 2 years, respectively. The relationship between soil $CO_2$ efflux and soil temperate at 10 cm depth was highly significant in the Q. glauca ($r^2=0.853$) and A. koreana forests ($r^2=0.842$). Soil temperature was the main controlling factor over $CO_2$ efflux during most of the study period. Also, precipitation may affect soil $CO_2$ efflux that appeared to be an important factor controlling the efflux rate. Conclusions: Soil $CO_2$ efflux was affected by soil temperature as the dominant control and moisture as the limiting factor. The difference of soil $CO_2$ efflux between of Q. glauca and A. koreana forests was induced by soil temperature to altitude and regional precipitation.
A steady slot suction near the free-end leading edge of a finite-length square cylinder was used to control its aerodynamic forces and vortex-induced vibration (VIV). The freestream oncoming flow velocity ($U_{\infty}$) was from 3.8 m/s to 12.8 m/s. The width of the tested cylinder d = 40 mm and aspect ratio H/d = 5, where H was the height of the cylinder. The corresponding Reynolds number was from 10,400 to 35,000. The tested suction ratio Q, defined as the ratio of suction velocity ($U_s$) at the slot over the oncoming flow velocity at which the strongest VIV occurs ($U_{\nu}$), ranged from 0 to 3. It was found that the free-end slot suction can effectively attenuate the VIV of a cantilevered square cylinder. In the experiments, the RMS value of the VIV amplitude reduced quickly with Q increasing from 0 to 1, then kept approximately constant for $Q{\geq}1$. The maximum reduction of the VIV occurs at Q = 1, with the vibration amplitude reduced by 92%, relative to the uncontrolled case. Moreover, the overall fluctuation lift of the finite-length square cylinder was also suppressed with the maximum reduction of 87%, which occurred at Q = 1. It was interesting to discover that the free-end shear flow was sensitive to the slot suction near the leading edge. The turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) of the flow over the free end was the highest at Q = 1, which may result in the strongest mixing between the high momentum free-end shear flow and the near wake.
