  • Increasing product variety based on product family and product platform provides a company with a competitive advantage over its competitors. As products become more complex, short-life cycled and customized, the design efforts require more knowledge-intensive, collaborative and coordinating efforts for information sharing. By sharing knowledge, information, component and process across different families of products, the product realization process will be more efficient, cost-effective and quick-responsive. Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is used for analyzing data and forming semantic structures that are formal abstractions of concepts of human thoughts. A Web Ontology Language (OWL) is designed for applications that need to process the content of information instead of simply presenting information to humans. OWL also captures the evolution of different components of the product family. The purpose of this paper is to develop product variety modeling to increase the usefulness of common platform. In constructing and analyzing product ontology, FCA is adopted for conceptual knowledge processing. For the selected product family, product variety Ontology is constructed and implemented using prot$\'{e}$g$\'{e}$-2000.

  • To accommodate constantly growing knowledge in scientific discourse that is revised over time by domain experts, we need to also evolve our ontology. The body of knowledge will get structured and refined as we develop a deeper understanding of issues. Keeping trail of new changes in semantically rich and formally sound mechanism has pragmatic advantages for providing the undo and redo facility and ontology recovery to a previous state. In this research, we have proposed a framework that support change logging and then using these logged changes for reverting ontology to a previous consistent state and visualization of change effects on ontology. The system is compared with ChangesTab of $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ and the results depict better accuracy for our system.

  • Although exogenous protease enzymes have been used in poultry diets quite extensively, this has not been the case for pig diets. In general, due to their better gut fermentative capacity and longer transit time, pigs have greater capacity to digest dietary proteins than poultry. However, in early-weaned piglets, the stress brought about by weaning adversely affects the digestion of dietary proteins. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the effects of a commercial protease enzyme in weanling pigs. Indices of growth, nutrient digestibility, blood profiles, fecal microflora, fecal gas emission and fecal scores were measured during the study. A total of 50 weanling pigs ($6.42{\pm}0.12kg$) at 28 d of age were randomly assigned to receive 1 of 2 dietary treatments: i) control diet (corn-soy based) with no supplemental protease (CON), and ii) control diet+200 g/ton protease (PROT) for 42 d. A completely randomized design consisting of 2 treatments, 5 replicates, and 5 pigs in each replicate was used. Growth performance in terms of body weight ($27.04{\pm}0.38kg$ vs $25.75{\pm}0.39kg$; p<0.05) and average daily gain ($491{\pm}7.40g$ vs $460{\pm}7.46g$; p<0.05) in PROT fed pigs were increased significantly, but gain per feed ($0.700{\pm}0.01$ vs $0.678{\pm}0.01$; p>0.05) was similar between treatments at d 42. Relative to CON pigs, PROT fed pigs had increased (p<0.05) apparent total tract digestibility ($84.66%{\pm}0.65%$ vs $81.21%{\pm}1.13%$ dry matter and $84.02%{\pm}0.52%$ vs $80.47%{\pm}1.22%$ nitrogen) and decreased (p<0.05) $NH_3$ emission ($2.0{\pm}0.16ppm$ vs $1.2{\pm}0.12ppm$) in the feces at d 42. Except for a decreased (p<0.05) in blood creatinine level, no differences were observed in red blood cell, white blood cell, lymphocyte, urea nitrogen, and IgG concentrations between treatments. Fecal score and fecal microflora (Lactobacillus and E. coli) were also similar between CON and PROT groups. Overall, the supplementation of protease enzyme in weanling pigs resulted in improved growth rate and nutrient digestibility. Exogenous protease enzyme reduced fecal $NH_3$ emission, thus, potentially serving as a tool in lowering noxious gas contribution of livestock production in the environment.

  • FRBR Library Reference Model is a consolidated model of FR Family Model - FRBR, FRAD, FRSAD developed by IFLA in early 2016. This means the creation of upper model for the consistency of FR individual models. It can be used for the expanding of the discussions on FRBR model in Korea that have been mainly discussed only for the first group of FRBR model. In addition, it can be an opportunity to apply the whole FR Family model to domestic literature in a comprehensive manner. In this study, we analyze the draft of FRBR LRM and apply the model to the Korean classic materials. There are various work, expression, and manifestation related to a work of korean classic material, so it is good to represent the structure of bibliographic information using FR Family model. We built on our experiment using $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ to design korean classic materials' ontology modeling, which propose a new orientation of korean classic materials' organizing based on FRBR LRM. As a result, we find out the applicability of the FRBR LRM model on upcoming bibliographical data control environment.

  • During recent years, there has been exponential growth in biological information. With the emergence of large datasets in biology, life scientists are encountering bottlenecks in handling the biological data. This study presents an integrated geographic information system (GIS)-ontology application for handling microbial genome data. The application uses a linear referencing technique as one of the GIS functionalities to represent genes as linear events on the genome layer, where users can define/change the attributes of genes in an event table and interactively see the gene events on a genome layer. Our application adopted ontology to portray and store genomic data in a semantic framework, which facilitates data-sharing among biology domains, applications, and experts. The application was developed in two steps. In the first step, the genome annotated data were prepared and stored in a MySQL database. The second step involved the connection of the database to both ArcGIS and $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ as the GIS engine and ontology platform, respectively. We have designed this application specifically to manage the genome-annotated data of rumen microbial populations. Such a GIS-ontology application offers powerful capabilities for visualizing, managing, reusing, sharing, and querying genome-related data.

  • Shipbuilding is a complex industry which contains a lot of knowledge, technology, and utilities. Hence, the necessity of the PLM (Product Life-cycle Management) system which manages life-cycle information of marine product has been increased. So, many studies related to shipbuilding PLM have been preceded, and there are some cases to be built. To implement collaboration and concurrent engineering of ship designing and manufacturing, interoperability of product data in heterogeneous system is required. Also, sharing and reusing knowledge are important for innovation of business process and productivity of enterprises. Even though many studies related interoperability of product data are going on in varies domain, the application to shipbuilding is deficient. This paper proposes a methodology for management and interconnection of BOM data based on ontology in heterogeneous PLM system of shipbuilding. Using Prot$\'{e}$g$\'{e}$-OWL, we built simple domain ontology of shipbuilding industry, and then, we integrated product information of shipbuilding BOM which is represented with different ontologies. We verified possibility of integration of shipbuilding BOM in heterogeneous PLM, using ontology.

  • This study aims to optimize an arrangement of ship compartments with knowledge-based systems. Though great attention has been shown to the optimization of hull forms in recent years, the study on arrangement design optimization has received relatively little attention. A ship is both an engineering system and a kind of assembly of many spaces. This means that, to design an arrangement of ship compartments, it is necessary to treat not only geometric data but also knowledge on topological relations between spaces and components of a ship. In this regard, we select a suitable knowledge representation scheme for describing ship compartments and their relations, and then develop a knowledge-based system using expert system shell. This new approach is applied to create design variations for optimization on an arrangement of a pressure hull of a submerged vehicle. Finally, we explicate how our approach improves the design process.

  • Performance management is very popular in business area and seems to be an exciting topic. Despite significant research efforts and myriads of performance metrics, performance management today as a rigorous approach is still in an immature state and metrics are often selected based on intuitive and heuristic approach. In a R&D sector, the difficulty to select the proper performance metrics is even more increasing due to the natural characteristics of R&D such as unique or domain-specific problems. In this paper, we present a way of presenting R&D performance framework using ontology language. Based on this, the specific metrics can be derived by reusing or inheriting the context in the framework. The proposed ontological framework is formalized using OWL(Ontology Web Language) and metrics selection rules satisfying the characteristics of R&D are represented in SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language). Actual metrics selection procedure is carried out using JESS rule engine, a plug-in to Prot$\acute{e}$g$\acute{e}$, and illustrated with an example, incorporating a prevalent R&D performance model : TVP(Technology Value Pyramid).
