The electrical conductuctivity measurements have been made on polycrystalline samples of various compositions in the $MgO-TiO_2$ system from 600 to $1100^{\circ}C$ under $Po_2$'s of $10^{-8}\;to\;10^{-1}$atm. Plots of log ${\sigma}$ vs. 1/T at constant $Po_2$ are found to be linear with the inflections, and the activation energies are 1.94eV for the intrinsic range and 0.48eV for the extrinsic range, respectively. The log ${\sigma}$ vs. log $Po_2$ curves are found to be linear at constant temperature, and the conductivity dependences of $Po_2$ are closely approximated by ${\sigma}\;{\alpha}\;Po_2^{-1/6}$ for the extrinsic and ${\sigma}\;{\alpha}\;Po_2^{-1/4}$ for the intrinsic range, respectively. The dominant defects in this system are believed to be oxygen vacancy for the extrinsic and $Ti^{3-}$ interstitial for the intrinsic range. The conduction mechanisms in both the extrinsic and the intrinsic ranges are proposed by the results of the electrical conductivity dependence on the oxygen partial pressure. Polaron model was suggested in the extrinsic region by the conductivity dependences of temperature and $Po_2$.
Understanding the chemical characteristics of sediments and the nutrient diffusion from sediments to the water body is important in the management of surface water quality. Changes in chemical properties and nutrient concentration of a submerged soil were monitored for 6 months using a microcosm with the thickness of 30cm for upland soil and 15cm of water thickness above the soil. The soil color changed from yellowish red to grey and an oxygenated layer was formed on the soil surface after 5 week flooding. The redox potential and the pH of the pore water in the microcosm decreased during the flooding. The nitrate concentration of the surface water was continuously increased up to $8\;mg\;l^{-1}$ but its phosphate concentration decreased from $2\;mg\;l^{-1}$ to $0.1\;mg\;l^{-1}$ during flooding. However, the concentrations of $NH_4^+$, $PO_4^{3-}$, Fe and Mn in the pore water were increased by the flooding during this period. The increased $NO_3^-$ in the surface water was due to the migration of $NH_4^+$ formed in the soil column and the oxidation to $NO_3^-$ in the surface water. The increased phosphate concentration in the pore water was due to the reductive dissolution of Fe-oxide and Mn-oxide, which scavenged phosphate from the soil solution. The oxygenated layer played a role blocking the migration of phosphate from the pore water to the water body.
Objectives: Present study was undertaken to investigate the crystal growth onto synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) seeds in pH 4.3 and pH 7.0 supersaturated solutions with different fluoride concentrations. Materials and Methods: 8 groups of pH 4.3 and 7.0 calcium phosphate supersaturated solutions were prepared with different fluoride concentrations (0, 1, 2 and 4 ppm). Calcium phosphate precipitates yield crystal growth onto the HA seed surface while solutions flow. For evaluation of crystallizing process, the changes of $Ca^{2+}$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$, $F^-$ concentrations of the inlet and outlet solutions were determined. The recovered solid samples were weighed to assess the amount of minerals precipitated, and finally determined their composition to deduce characteristics of crystals. Results: During the seeded crystal growth, there were significantly more consumption of $Ca^{2+}$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$, $F^-$ in pH 4.3 solutions than pH 7.0 (p < 0.05). As fluoride concentration increased in pH 4.3 solution, $Ca^{2+}$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$, $F^-$ consumption in experimental solutions, weight increment of HA seed, and fluoride ratio in crystallized samples were increased. There were significant differences among the groups (p < 0.05). But in pH 7.0 solution, these phenomena were not significant. In pH 7.0 solutions, analyses of crystallized samples showed higher Ca/P ratio in higher fluoride concentration. There were significant differences among the groups (p < 0.05). But in pH 4.3 solution, there were not significant differences in Ca/P ratio. Conclusions: Crystal growth in pH 4.3 solutions was superior to that in pH 7.0 solutions. In pH 4.3 solutions, crystal growth increased with showed in higher fluoride concentration up to 4 ppm.

Several extraction conditions of mussel were investigated for preparation of the extract as a natural shellfish seasoning. The conditions studied were extraction temperature and time, addition of sodium phosphates and citrate and hydrolysis with commercial proteolytic enzymes. The extracts were prepared by deshelling, grinding and aqueous extraction followed by centrifugation and filtration. Extraction at $90^{\circ}C$ for 40min showed the highest solids yield with less fishy and high umami taste. Among the several phosphates and citrate added, $Na_{3}PO_{4}$ and $Na_{4}P_{2}O_{7}$ at 1% level were most effective in terms of the yield and umami taste. The pH effects showed that pH 10 resulted the highest solids yield of 28% with less fishy taste. Even though the effect of enzymatic hydrolysis was not greatly different among the commercial enzymes tested, Protamex and Protease II were somewhat better than other enzymes in taste. When the mussel were extracted by the combined conditions, hydrolysis with Protamex followed by extraction at $90^{\circ}C$ for 40min with addition of $Na_{3}PO_{4}$ at pH 10, the solid yields increased up to 30% which was about 58% improvement and high intensity of umami taste and less fishy flavor.
Operational parameters for struvite crystallization, as a process to recover nitrogen and phosphorus resources from animal wastewater, were studied in this research. Crystallization distinctive of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ in accordance to chemical sources, influent pH, aeration and stirring was examined using 2L of working volume of struvite reactor. Also, to find an effective treatment process combining with electrolysis method, removal characteristics of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ in 6 different processes was tested. As chemical sources for the derivation of struvite formation, MgSO$_4$ and MgCl$_2$ were superior to CaCO$_3$ and CaCl$_2$. From experiment which was conducted to know the effects of aeration and stirring on struvite formation, it was revealed that aeration stimulated the crystallization reaction by inducing faster pH increase. While 90% of P removal was achieved within 1 hour under aeration, 14 hours was consumed under stirring condition. Struvite formation under aeration was affected by influent pH. No crystallization was observed at pH 5 level, but active crystallization reaction was induced over pH 6.0. 95% of P removal by struvite formation at pH 6, 7 and 9 was achieved within 3h, 2h and 10 min., respectively. However, over pH 10, operational problem due to excessive foam formation occurred, and blunting of crystallization reaction was observed at pH 11. When consider the pH range of animal wastewater, pH 7 to 9, efficient struvite formation could be achieved by simple aeration, without any chemical usage for pH adjustment. Among tested processes, the treatment process which electrolyzing the supernatant from struvite reactor, providing air to both reactors, showed best pollutant removal efficiencies. In this combined process, the removal efficiencies of NH$_4$-N and PO$_4$$^{3-}$ was 86% and 98%, respectively, and 92.4% of color removal was obtained.
This study was performed to treat a sewage at the upper stream of dam using modified sequencing batch reactor, During the operating period, average $COD_{cr}$, removal efficiency was about 85% but average T-N and ${PO_4}^{3-}-P$ removal efficiencies were 43% and 30% respectively. Because the organic matter was very low compared with nitrogen and phosphorous in influent($BOD_{5}/{NH_4}^{+}-N{\;}={\;}2,{\;}BOD_{5}/{PO_4}^{3-}-P{\;}={\;}15.6$), nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency was relatively low. Average nitrogen removal efficiency was 50 % at $10^{\circ}C$ or above and it was 36 % at $10^{\circ}C$ or below. As reactor was located in outdoor without any thermostat, temperature decreased at least $2.4^{\circ}C$ in the winter season. Therefore, if we would apply this modified sequencing batch reactor to sewage which concentration of organic matter was very low compared with nitrogen and phosphorous, we have to addition of external carbon and installation of any thermostat.

Calcium phosphate powders have been prepared by using $Ca(OH)_2\;and\;H_{3}PO_4$ solution under various conditions such as pH, calcination temperature, and reaction time. ${\beta}-TCP({\beta}-tricalcium phosphate)$and HAp(hydroxyapatite) were synthesized at pH=5.21 and pH > 7.62, respectively. From XRD results, $Ca(OH)_2\;and\;H_{3}PO_4$ solution reacted quickly to form HAp, which was structurally stable up to 16h. Calcination temperature having good crystallinity is revealed to be at $1200^{\circ}C$. SEM analysis showed that ${\beta}-TCP$ and HAp with needle type were synthesized at pH 5.21 and pH 7.62, respectively. However, at pH 9.16, tiny and homogeneous HAp having sphere was prepared and rearranged to show needle morphology. HAp synthesized at pH 9.16 was utilized as bonechina body and calcined. The sample was analyzed its crystallinity, water absorbtion, color, and shape to check physical properties.
Leaf litter is the main and quick source of organic matter and nutrient to the soil compared to other parts of litter. This study focused on the nutrients (N, P and K) leaching from leaf litter of Melia azadirachta, Azadirachta indica, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Swietenia macrophylla, Mangifera indica, Zizyphus jujuba, Litchi chinensis, Albizia saman, Artocarpus heterophyllus, Acacia auriculiformis, Dalbergia sissoo and Khaya anthotheca as the common cropland agroforest tree species of Bangladesh. About (9 to 35) % of initial mass was lost, while Electric Conductivity (EC) and TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) of leaching water increased to (573 to 3,247) ${\mu}S/cm$ and (401 to 2,307) mg/l respectively after 192 hours of leaching process. Mass loss (%) of leaf litter, EC and TDS of leaching water showed significant (ANOVA, p<0.05) curvilinear relationship with leaching time. Initial concentration of NH4, PO4 and K in leaching water was found to increase significantly (p<0.05) up to 48/72 hours and then remained almost constant at later stages (48/72 to 192 hours). Mass loss of leaves; EC, TDS, $NH_4$, $PO_4$ and K in leaching water was varied also significantly (ANOVA, p<0.05) among the studied tree species. All the tree species showed similar pattern of nutrients (K>N>P) release during the leaching process. The highest $NH_4$ (4,097 ppm) and potassium (8,904 ppm) concentration was found for M. azadirachta while the highest $PO_4$ (1,331 ppm) concentration was found for E. camaldulensis in the leaching water. Among the studied tree species, M. azadirachta, A. indica, D. sissoo, E. camaldulensis and Z. jujuba was selected as the best tree species with respect to nutrient leaching.

This study was carried out to find culture materials (explant parts) and medium components (medium type, sucrose and $NaH_2PO_4$ concentration) for in vitro propagation of Osmunda cinnamomea var. forkiensis sporophyte. The results of study: chopped segments of leaf blades, stipes, rhizomes and roots were cultured on a 1/2MS medium supplemented with 0.1% activated charcoal. Among these explant types, only the rhizome segments produced young sporophyte, regenerating vigorously on a 1/8MS medium. Adjusting the sucrose concentration to 2% and supplement to $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;NaH_2PO_4$ in the 1/8MS medium proved to be more efficient for plant regeneration. Consequently, the addition of 0.1% activated charcoal to a modified 1/8MS medium (2% sucrose, $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;NaH_2PO_4$, pH 5.8 and 0.8% agar) yielded the highest sporophyte regeneration.
