Formation and Color of the Spinel Solid Solution in NiO-ZnO-$Fe_2O_3$-$TiO_2$-$SnO_2$ System (NiO-ZnO-$Fe_2O_3$-$TiO_2$-$SnO_2$ 계 Spinel 고용체의 생성과 발색에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to research the formation and the color development of NiO-ZnO-Fe2O3-TiO2-SnO2 system for the purpose of synthesizing the spinel pigments which are stable at high temperature. After preparing ZnO-Fe2O3 as a basic composition, {{{{ chi }}NiO.(l-{{{{ chi }})ZnO.Fe2O3 system, {{{{ chi }}NiO.(l-{{{{ chi }})ZnO.TiO2 system, and {{{{ chi }}NiO.(l-{{{{ chi }})ZnO.SnO2 system were prepared with {{{{ chi }}=0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.7, 1 mole ratio respectively. The manufacturing was carried out at 128$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. The reflectance measurement and the X-ray analysis of these specimens were carried out and the results were summarized as follows. 1. In the specimens which included NiO, it was difficult for the spinel structure to be formed. 2. As increasing the contents of NiO and Fe2O3, all the groups which were yellow or green colored changed to brown. 3. NiO-ZnO-Fe2O3 system and NiO-ZnO-TiO2 system formed the spinel structure and the illmenite structure appeared in NiO-TiO2 system.

Mechanical Properties of Ni Films and $Ni-Al_2O_3$ Composite Films Fabricated by Electroplating (전기도금법으로 제조한 Ni 박막과 $Ni-Al_2O_3$ 복합박막의 기계적 성질)

  • Characteristics of electroplated Ni films and $Ni-Al_2O_3$ composite films, such as yield strength, fracture elongation, and $Al_2O_3$ content, were evaluated as a function of electroplating current density. $Al_2O_3$ content was $11.48\~11.64\;vol\%$ for $Ni-Al_2O_3$ composite films electroplated at $5\~20\;mA/cm^2$, and decreased to $8.41\;vol\%$ at $30\;mA/cm^2$ $Ni-Al_2O_3$ possessed yield strengths higher than those of Ni films. Especially, $Ni-Al_2O_3$ fabricated at $5\;mA/cm^2$ exhibited $50\%$ improved yield strength. Fracture elongations of Ni and $Ni-Al_2O_3$ decreased with increasing the electroplating current density. $Ni-Al_2O_3$ electroplated at $5\;mA/cm^2$ exhibited more uniform dispersion of $Al_2O_3$ and higher yield strength and larger fracture elongation than the composite films processed at other current densities.

  • The activities of Ni(20wt%)/$La_2O_3$, Ni(20wt%)/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, and Ni(20wt%)/$SiO_2$ catalyst for $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$ were investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor under atmospheric condition. Catalyst characterization using XRD, TEM, SEM, BET analysis were also conducted. The catalytic activity of Ni(20wt%)/$La_2O_3$ catalyst has relatively superior to that of Ni(20wt%)/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and Ni(20wt%)/$SiO_2$ catalyst. The good activity of Ni(20wt%)/$La_2O_3$ catalyst seems to depend on reduced $Ni^{\circ}$ phases of NiO($\rightarrow$ Ni + O), $LaNiO_3$($\rightarrow$ $Ni+La_2O_3$), Ni crystalline phases, and decoration of Ni phases by lanthanum species is also an important factor. Ni(20wt%)/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and Ni(20wt%)/$SiO_2$ catalyst due to surface acidity resulted in the deposition of wisker type and encapsulate carbon on the surface of catalyst, but Ni(20wt%)/$La_2O_3$ catalyst did not show carbon on the surface of catalyst up to 8.5hr reaction.

  • $Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts with various $La_2O_3$ loading were investigated for hydrogen production from steam reforming of methane (SRM). The $La_2O_3$ loading influenced the physicochemical properties of $Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts such as BET surface area, Ni dispersion, Ni size and reducibility. Among the prepared catalysts, $Ni-70La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalyst showed the highest activity and stability at a very high gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of $932,556h^{-1}$. This is mainly due to high Ni dispersion, small Ni size and high reducibility.

  • Reforming of propane by carbon dioxide using NiO/${\gamma}$-$A1_2O_3$ was carried out in a pulse or continuous kid bed reactor. NiO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ showed higher dissociation ability of $CO_2$ than NiO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$, and the former exhibited higher conversion of propane than the latter. The presence of oxygen in the reaction mixture of propane and $CO_2$ increased the conversion of propane and reduced the amount of carbon deposit on the catalyst surface. Mechanical mixture catalyst of NiO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ and $Ga_2O_3$ showed higher stability to deactivation than NiO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ itself. The synergistic effect between NiO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ was also observed in this study.

Effect of La in Partial Oxidation of Methane to Hydrogen over M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = La, Ce, Y) Catalysts (M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = La, Ce, Y) 촉매상에서 수소 제조를 위한 메탄의 부분산화반응에서 La의 효과)

  • The catalytic yields of POM to hydrogen over M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = La, Ce, Y) were investigated using a fixed bed flow reactor under atmosphere. The crystal phase behavior of reduced La(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalysts before and after the reaction were studied via XRD analysis. FESEM and EDS analyses were further performed to show the uniformed distribution of La, Ni, and Ce metal particles on the catalyst surface. XPS results showed O2-, O22- species and metal ions such as Ce3+, Ce4+, La3+ and Ni2+ etc. were on the catalyst surface. When 1 wt% of La was added to Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalyst, Ni2p3/2 and Ce3d5/2 increased 52.7 and 6.3%, respectively. The yield of hydrogen on the La(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalyst was 89.1%, which was much better than that of M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = Ce, Y). As Ce4+ ions of CeO2 produced by the reaction of AlCeO3 with oxygen were substitute to La3+, it made oxygen vacancies in the lattice and further improved the hydrogen yield by increasing the dispersion of Ni atoms with strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) effect.

TEM Microstructure of Al2O3/Ni Nanocomposites by Electroless Deposition (무전해코팅법으로 제조한 Al2O3/Ni 나노 Composite의 TEM 미세조직)

  • Ni coated $Al_2O_3$ composite was successfully Prepared by the electroless deposition Process. The average size of Ni particles coated on the $Al_2O_3$ matrix powder was about 20 nm. It was hard to find any reaction compound as an impurity at interface between $Al_2O_3$ and Ni particles after sintering. The characterization of microstructure crystal structure and fracture behavior of the sintered body were investigated using XRD, TEM and Victors hardness tester, and compared with those of the sintered $Al_2O_3$ monolithic body. Many dislocations were observed in the Ni phase due to the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between $Al_2O_3$ and Ni phase, and no observed microcracks at their $Al_2O_3$ and Ni interface. In the $Al_2O_3$/Ni composite, the main fracture mode showed a mixed fracture with intergranular and transgranuluar type having some ,surface roughness. The fracture toughness was slightly increased due to the plastic deformation mechanism of Ni phase in the $Al_2O_3$/Ni composite.

  • The syntheses of LaNiO$_3$Perovskite crystalline phase from mixtures of La$_2$O$_3$and NiO via it mechanochemical(used planetary mill) and a wet ball mill process were investigated. A single and stable LaNiO$_3$perovskite crystalline phase was successfully prepared by using a heat free mechanochemical process which produced a fine amorphous powder, while that phase was not formed in a wet ball mill process which needed heat treatment ranging from 500 to 150$0^{\circ}C$ and produced a coarse powder. It was shown that the LaNiO$_3$ceramics made of the mechanochemically synthesized powder possesed a good metallic characteristic.

  • The microstructural changes of $NiCrAlY/ZrO_2$-$Y_2$$O_3$ composite coatings that were manufactured by air-plasma-spraying were investigated using XRD and SEM/EDS. The as-sprayed microstructure consisted of (Ni,Cr)-rich regions, ($ZrO_2$-$Y_2$$O_3$)-rich regions, and $Al_2$$O_3$-rich layers that were formed during spraying owing to the oxidation of Al in NiCrAlY. During oxidation between 900 and $1100^{\circ}C$ in air, Cr in the (Ni,Cr)-rich regions diffused toward the $Al_2$$O_3$-rich layers, and oxidized to be dissolved in $A1_2$$O_3$-rich layers. The oxidation of Ni in the (Ni,Cr)-rich regions was less distinct, except at the outer surface of the coating.

Preparation of La0.5Nd0.5Ni5 Alloy by an Electrochemical Reduction in Molten LiCl (LiCl 용융염에서 전해환원법을 통한 La0.5Nd0.5Ni5 합금 제조)

  • The electrochemical behavior of $Nd_2O_3-La_2O_3-NiO$ mixed oxide including rare earth resources has been studied to synthesize $La_{0.5}Nd_{0.5}Ni_5$ alloy in a LiCl molten salt. The $Nd_2O_3-La_2O_3-NiO$ mixed oxide was converted to $NiNd_2O_4$ (spinel) and $LaNiO_3$ (perovskite) structures at a sintering temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$. The spinel and perovskite structures led a speed-up in the electrolytic reduction of the mixed oxide. Various reaction intermediates such as Ni, $NiLa_2O_4$ were observed during the electrochemical reduction by XRD analysis. A possible reaction route to $La_{0.5}Nd_{0.5}Ni_5$ in the LiCl molten salt was proposed based on the analysis result.
