Field-Induced Strain and Polarization Characteristics of La-Modified PMN-PT Ceramics (La 변성 PMN-PT계 강유전체의 전계유기변위와 분극특성)

  • Pb(Mg$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3)O$_{3}$[PMN]-PbTiO$_{3}$[PT]계 고용체의 상경계조성(MPB)영역에 대해 La을 첨가하여 변성시킨 La변성 (1-x)PMN-xPT(x=0.35) 고용체를 만들어 온도-유전율 특성, 전계유기 분극특성 및 변위특성을 조사하였다. PMN-PT의 상경영역의 조성인 x=0.35에 대해 La함량을 0-10at%까지 변화시켰다. PMN-PT계 고용체에서 PT 의 함량이 증가함에 따라 전계유기변위 및 히스테리시스 특성이 모두 증가하였다. 전계유기변위 값 $\varepsilon$ 는 능면정과 정방정의 공존영역인 MPB(x=0.35)조성에서 가장 높은 값($\varepsilon$ = 2 x $10^{-3}$)을 보여 주었다. MPB조성에 대해 La을 첨가한 계의 전계유기변위를 조사한 결과 La의 첨가량이 적을 때 (La=0-5at%)는 La의 함량이 증가함에 따라 히스테리시스 특성이 감소하였고 $\varepsilon$ 은 증가하여 고성능의 액튜에이터 재료에 적합한 조성물로 기대된다.

Influence of Substrate Temperature of SBN Ceramic Thin Film (SBN 세라믹 박막의 기판온도에 따른 영향)

  • The $Sr_{0.7}Bi_{2.3}Nb_2O_9$(SBN) thin films are deposited on Pt-coated electrode(Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si) using RF sputtering method at various substrate temperature. The optimum conditions of RF power and Ar/O2 ratio were 60[W] and 70/30, respectively. The crystallinity of SBN thin films were increased with increase of substrate temperature in the temperature range of 100~400[$^{\circ}C$]. The capacitance of SBN thin films were increased with the increase of substrate temperature.

  • Recent progress of electric technology requires new piezoelectric crystals having superior properties such as zero temperature coefficients and large electromechanical coupling factors. We have developed a series of new leading chandidates, La$_3$Ga5SiO14(langasite, LGS), La3Nb0.5Ga5.5O14(LNG), La3Ta0.5O14(LTG), to satisfy those requirements. High quality LGS, LNG and LTG single crystals, with dimensions of 2 inches in diameter, were successfully grown by the Czochralski method at a pulling rate of 1mm/h. Since no variation of chemical composition was observed when whole melt in a crucible was crystallized, congruency of these compositions was confirmed. Physical constants such as elastic constants, dielectric constants and piezoelectric constants were measured. Filters and oscillators made of grown LGS, LNG and LTG single crystals showed superior properties such as three times wider passband than that of quartz, low insertion loss and easy processing, Langasite family crystals were shown to be superior materials to other known materials such as quartz, LiTaO$_3$, $\alpha$-AlPO$_4$ and Li$_2$B$_4$O7.

  • In this paper, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties as a function of x and a in $aPbZr_xTi_{1-x}O_3-(1-a)Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ + ywt%MgO is investigated. As a results, when a is 0.95 and x is 0.505, electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$, permittivity${\varepsilon}_33^T/{\varepsilon}_0$, piezoelectric strain constant$(d_{33})$ and mechanical quality factor$(Q_m)$ are 58 %, 1520, 272 pC/N and 1550, respectively. From XRD analysis, when x is 0.505, it is MPB which present rhombohedral and tetragonal phase in same quantity. Also, From SEM observation, when sintering temperature is $1150^{\circ}C$, grain size is about $2\;{\mu}m$. As a results added MgO dopant in the ternary piezoelectric ceramic, when MgO content is 0.1 wt%, $k_p$ increases to 63[%].

Geochemical and Isotopic Studies of the Cretaceous Igneous Rocks in the Yeongdong basin, Korea: Implications for the origin of magmatism in a pull-apart basin

  • The Yeongdong basin is one of the pull-apart basins in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula that has developed during Cretaceous sinistal fault movement. The bimodal igneous activities (basalts and rhyolites) in the basin appear to be closely associated with the basin development. Here, we discuss the origin of the igneous rocks using chemical and radiogenic isotope data. Basaltic (48.4-52.7 wt% SiO$_2$) and rhyolitic (70.3-70.8 wt% SiO$_2$) rocks are slightly alkalic in a total alkali-silica diagram. The rhyolitic rocks with have unusually high K$_2$O contents (5.2-6.0 wt%). The basaltic rocks show an overall pattern of within-plate basalt in a MORB-normalized spider diagram, but have distinct negative anomaly of Nb, which indicates a significant amount of crustal component in the magma. The basaltic rocks plot within the calc-alkaline basalt field in the Hf/3-Th-Ta and Y/l5-La/10-Nb/8 discrimination diagrams. The eNd(T) values of the basaltic rocks (-13.6 to 14.3) are slightly higher than those of the rhyolitic rocks (-14.1 to 15.2), and the initial Sr isotopic ratios of the former (0.7085-0.7093) are much lower than those of the latter (0.7140-0.7149). However, the initial Nd and Sr isotope ratios of the igneous rocks in the Yeongdong basin are similar to those of the nearby Cretaceous igneous rocks in the Okcheon belt. The Pb isotope ratios plot within the field of Mesozoic granitoids outside of the Gyeongsang basin in Pb-Pb correlation diagrams. Since a basaltic magma requires the mantle source, the enriched isotopic signatures and negative Nb anomaly of the basaltic rocks suggest two possibilities for their origin: enriched mantle lithospheric source, or depleted mantle source with significant amount of crustal contamination. However, we prefer the first possibility since it would be difficult for a basaltic magma to maintain its bulk composition when it is significantly contaminated with granitic crustal material. The slightly more enriched isotopic signatures of rhyolitic rocks also suggest two possibilities: differentiate of the basaltlc magma with some crustal contamination, or direct partial melting of the lower crust. Much larger exposed volume of the rhyolitic rocks, compared with the basaltic rocks, indicates the latter possibility more favorable.

  • This study is about how to lower the driving voltage that enables to move the micro droplet by the EWOD (Electro Wetting On Dielectric) mechanism. EWOD is well known that it is used ${\mu}-TAS$ digital micro fluidics system. As the device which is fabricated with dielectric layer between electrode and micro droplet is applied voltage, the hydrophobic surface is changed into the hydrophilic surface by electrical property. Therefore, EWOD induces the movement of micro droplet with reducing contact angle of micro droplet. The driving voltage was depended on the dielectric constant of dielectric layer, thus it can be reduced by increase of dielectric constant. Typically, very high voltage ($100V{\sim}$) is used to move the micro droplet. In previous study, we used $Ta_{2}O_{5}$ as the dielectric layer and driving voltage was 23V that reduced 24 percent compared with $SiO_2$. In this study, we used $BZN(Bi_{2}O_{3}ZnO-Nb_{2}O_{5})$ layer which had high dielectric constant. It was operated the just 12V. And micro droplet was moved within Is on 15V. It was reduced the voltage until 35 percents compare with $Ta_{2}O_{5}$ and 50 percents compare with $SiO_2$. The movement of micro droplet within 1s was achieved with BZN (ferroelectrics)just on 15V.

  • For the piezoelectric transformer application, Pb(Sb$\_$1/2/ Nb$\_$1/2/)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$ ceramics were produced by attrition milling. Microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics of the ceramics were investigated as a function of milling time. The particle size and grain size decreased while dielectric constant, density and mechanical quality factor (Q$\_$m/) increased with milling time. Temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCf$\_$r/) was shifted to positive side with increasing milling time. The attrition milling process proved to be one of the effective routes to produce transformers for high power application.

  • A guided-wave TE to TM mode converter was demonstrated by using of the off-diagonal electrooptic coefficients in LiTaO$_{3}$. The input mode is coupled to the other orthogonal mode by the electrooptically induced off-diagonal polarizability. Compared with LiNbO$_{3}$, LiTaO$_{3}$ provides a smaller birefringence and thus a larger phase match period and larger optical bnadwidth. A novel electrode structure allowed a first-order Bragg-coupling phase matching. TE/TM mode conversion efficiency of 90% at 25 [V] was demonstrated with ${\lambda}$=0.63$\mu$m He-Ne laser.

  • Compact solid-state blue laser have great potential for use in optical data storage, laser beam printing, particle countering, reprographics, holography, and fluorescent bioanalysis. We report recent progresses in qualities of LiB3O5 and K3Li2(TaxNb1-x)5O15 nonlinear crystals which are essential in manufacturing bulk-type blue SHG devices. We also review newly developed violet-blue laser, 20 mW output, using intracavity frequency doubling of a diode laser pumped Cr:LiSrAlF6 laser with low loss LiB3O5 crystal as a frequency doubler.

  • In this study, in order to develop Pb-free piezoelectric ceramics, $[Li_{0.04}(Na_{0.44}K_{0.52)-(Nb_{0.86}Ta_{0.10}Sb_{0.04})]O_3$ ceramics were fabricated by conventional mixed oxide method and their piezoelectric characteristics were investigated according to the poling condition. The transition temperature from orthorhombic phase to tetragonal phase observed at $93[^{\circ}C]$ and Curie temperature was $346[^{\circ}C]$. At $50[^{\circ}C]$ poling temperature, dielectric constant, electromecha nical coupling factor kp, piezoelectric $d_{33}$ const ant, coercive field Ec, remanant polarization Pr and mechanical quality factor Qm showed the optimum value of 737, 0.45, 209[pC/N], 1l.34[kV/cm], $7.14[{\mu}C/cm^2]$ and 205, respectively.
