Mg crowns were manufactured using domestic dolomite (Ca·Mg(CO3)2) (20~30 mm). In order to manufacture the calcined dolomite (CaO·MgO), (a) electric furnace (950 ℃, 480 min) and (b) microwave furnace (950 ℃, 60 min) processes were used. As a result of XRD analysis, it was analyzed as (a) CaO 56.9 wt%, MgO 43.1 wt% by electric furnace process and (b) CaO 55 wt%, MgO 45 wt% by microwave furnace process. Even when the decarbonation reaction time of dolomite was shortened by 1/8 in microwave furnace process compare with electric furnace process, the calcined dolomite could be produced. The hydration reaction (ASTM C 110) is a standard for the hydration reactivity of calcined dolomite, and the calcined dolomite produced by electric furnace process showed a high hydration reactivity (max temp 79.8 ℃/1.5 minutes). Such hydration reactivity was occurred by only CaO hydration reaction and that was confirmed by XRD analysis. The calcined dolomite produced by microwave furnace process showed low hydration reactivity (max temp 81.7 ℃/19.5 minutes). Such low hydration reactivity was occurred by CaO and MgO hydration reaction due to the hydration reaction of CaO thereafter occurring of the hydration reaction of MgO, and that was confirmed by XRD analysis. The prepared Mg crown were 58.8 g and 74.6 g by electric furnace and microwave furnace processes, respectively, under the reaction conditions of 1,230 ℃, 60 min, 5 × 10-2 torr by silicothermic reduction.

The self-propagating high temperature synthesis approach was applied to synthesize amorphous boron nano-powders in argon atmospheres. For this purpose, we investigated the characteristics of a thermally induced combustion wave in the $B_2O_3+{\alpha}Mg$ system(${\alpha}=1.0-8.0$) in an argon atmospheres. In this study, the exothermic nature of the $B_2O_3-Mg$ reaction was investigated using thermodynamic calculations. Experimental study was conducted based on the calculation data and the SHS products consisting of crystalline boron and other compounds were obtained starting with a different initial molar ratio of Mg. It was found that the $B_2O_3$ and Mg reaction system produced a high combustion temperature with a rapid combustion reaction. In order to regulate the combustion reaction, NaCl, $Na_2B_4O_7$ and $H_3BO_3$ additives were investigated as diluents. In an experimental study, it was found that all diluents effectively stabilized the reaction regime. The final product of the $B_2O_3+{\alpha}Mg$ system with 0.5 mole $Na_2B_4O_7$ was identified to be amorphous boron nano-powders(< 100 nm).
In order to analyze the water quality in artificial lakes in Chonnam area, a chemical and biological examination of Dongbock Lake and Changsung Lake was conducted from September to December 1983 and May 1984. In Dongbock Lake, pH ranged from 7.2-8.1, D.O.: 8.2-12.6mg/l, B.O.D.: 4.4-22.1 mg/l, C.O.D.: 1.0-3.4rag/l, Cl$^-$: 5.9-11.9mg/l, Total-P: 0.001-0.071 mg/l, and Total -N: 0.016-0.697 mg/l, respectively. 2. In Changsung Lake, pH ranged from 7.2-8.1, D.O.: 8.1-9.8mg/l, B.O.D.: 0.9-2.9mg/l, C.O.D.: 1.9-3.4mg/l. Total- P: 0.006-0.016mg/l and Total -N:0.006-0.033mg/l, respectively. 3. The Phytoplankton identified in this investigation were distributed in a total of 46 genera and 76 spedes in Dongbock Lake 37 genera and 45 species in Changsung Lake. 4. In Dongbock Lake, it was found that the dominant algae were Melosira sp., Microcystis sp. and Synedra sp. in September Melosira sp. and Microcytis sp. in October, but Cymbella sp., Naviculla sp. and Nitzschis sp. were also observed in OctoberAsterionella sp., Melosira sp. and Microsystis sp. in November and Melosira sp., Asterionella sp sp. and Synedra sp. in December 1983. 5. In Changsung Lake, it was found that the dominant algae were Melosira sp., Lyngrbya sp. and Microcystis in September Melosira sp. and Synedra sp. in October and November and Melosira sp., Lyngbya sp. and Asterionella sp. in December 1983. The dominant algae were Melosira sp., Lyngbya sp. and Euglena sp. in May 1984. 6. It was found that the dominant algae in both Dongbock and Changsung Lakes were Microcystis sp., Melosira sp. and Asterionella sp.. Which are strongly related with water-bloom. Therefore, it could be suggested that the eutrophication phenomena is going to occur very easily in Dongbock Lake and possibly in Changsung Lake.
Single phase $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics doped by 10 mol% of electron donors such as $La^3,\; Pr^{3+,4+},\; Nd^{3+},\; Sm^{3+}$, were synthesized and their B-site cationic ordering structures were investigated by XRD and TEM. In the XRD patterns, only fundamental reflections were observed for the undoped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$, while the (h/2 $\textsc{k}$/2ι/2)(h,$\textsc{k}$,ι all odd) superlattice reflections resulting from the 1:1 ordering induced unit cell doubling were also observed for the donor-doped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. In the TEM selected area diffraction patterns, the (h/2 k/2 l/2)(h,k,l all odd) superlattice reflection spots as well as the fundamental reflection spots were observed for all the samples, but the relative intensities of the superlattice reflection spots to the fundamental reflection spots were significantly enhanced by the donor-doping. In the TEM dark-field images, antiphase boundaries were observed only for the donor-doped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. It was therefore experimentally verified that doping by electron donors such as $La^3,\; Pr^{3+,4+},\; Nd^{3+},\; Sm^{3+}$, enhances the B-site cationic 1:1 ordering in $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. These experimental results were interpreted in terms of the charge compensation mechanism.

$MgB_4O_7$: Tb, Tm, Dy, La, Ho and Nd phosphors have been prepared by sintering around $580^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours followed by flowing Ar gas. Activation energy and kinetic order of main peak of glow curve were studied by two methods peak shape method and initial rise method. By these methods, the estimated activation energies were $0.76\pm0.02eV$(Tb doped), $0.94\pm0.03eV$(Tm doped), $0.72\pm0.02eV$(Dy doped), respectively. The TL phosphors prepared in this work may be utilized to radiation sensor elements becaue of their high sensitivity to low energy X-ray.
$MgB_2$ bulk superconductors are synthesized by the solid state reaction of ($MgB_4$+xMg) precursors with excessive Mg compositions (x=1.0, 1.4, 2.0 and 2.4). The $MgB_4$ precursors are synthesized using (Mg+B) powders. The secondary phases ($MgB_4$ and MgO) present in the synthesized $MgB_4$ are removed by $HNO_3$ leaching. It is found that the formation reaction of $MgB_2$ is accelerated when Mg excessive compositions are used. The magnetization curves of $Mg_1+_xB_2$ samples show that the transition from the normal state to the superconducting state of the Mg excessive samples with x=0.5 and x=0.7 are sharper than that of $MgB_2$. The highest $J_c-B$ curve at 5 K and 20 K is achieved for x=0.5. Further addition of Mg decreases the $J_c$ owing to the formation of more pores in the $MgB_2$ matrix and smaller volume fraction of $MgB_2$.
Four strains of yeasts were chosen from those isolated previously, and a strain from 160 isolates collected in this year were examined for the treatment of pulp waste liquor. Experiments about optimum nutrient condition, composition of cells, and reduction of B.O.D. on the "S" pulp industry waste liquor were performed with 5 strains. 1. The isolates(strain 112) was identified as Candida utilis. 2. The optium concentration of 4 components of nutrients were ($NH_4$)$SO_2$lg/l, yeast extract 70mg/l, $KH_2PO_4$ 300mg/l, and $MgSO_4{\ddot}7H_2O$ 500mg/l. 3. Specific growth ratio of Candida utilis KYRI 112 was 0.48/hr at optimum nutrient media and the yield was 0.45%(V/V). 4. Endomycopsis capsularis KYRI 613 contained more crude protein than the most of commercial yeasts. 5. The B.O.D. of waste liquor was reduced ro 20% of its value by the culture.e culture.
Media optimization for the production of MR-387A and B, novel aminopeptidase M inhibitors by Streptomyces sp. SL-387 isolated from a soil was studied. Optimized medium was consisted of 1% glucose, 3% soybean meal, 0.2% yeast extract, 0.1% beef extract, 0.3% NaCl, 0.01% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.3% $CaCO_3$, 0.001% $MnCl_2{\cdot}4H_2O$, 0.001% $ZnCl_2{\cdot}7H_2O$, and 0.0005% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and adjusted to pH 7.0 before autoclaving. When the optimized medium was used as a fermentation medium, maximum productivity of MR-387 was reached at 120 hours of fermentation, and total productivity was 909.1 U/ml.
The extracellular amylase production by Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki HD-l in amylase production media and its characteristics were investigated. The amylase production was highest in the medium composed of 0.2% soluble starch, 1.0% Bacto-peptone, 0.3% beef extract, 0.3% yeast extract, 0.5% NaCl, 0.3% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.1% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.012% $CaCl_2$.$2H_2O$, 0.005% $MnSO_4$.$H_2O$, and 0.03% $MgSO_4$.$7H_2O$. The amylase activity was inhibited by 50mM EDT A. The enzyme was optimally active from pH 6.5 to 7.0 at $55^{\circ}C$, The specific activity of the enzyme in the ethanol precipitate was 2.01 units/mg, and the Km value was approxi-mately 0.8 mg/ml.
'Tracers' are bullets that emit light at the backside so that the shooter can see the trajectory of their flight. These light-emitting bullets allow snipers to hit targets faster and more accurately. Conventional tracers are all combustion type which use the heat generated upon ignition. However, the conventional tracer has a fire risk at the impact site due to the residual flame and has a by-product that can contaminate the inside of the gun and lead to firearm failure. To resolve these problems, it is necessary to develop non-combustion-type tracers that can convert heat to luminance, so-called 'thermoluminescence (TL)'. Here, we highly improve the thermoluminescence properties of MgB4O7 through co-doping of Dy3++Ce3+ and Dy3++Na+. The presence of doping materials (Dy3+, Ce3+, Na+) was confirmed by XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). The as-synthesized co-doped MgB4O7 was irradiated with a specific radiation dose and heated to 500 ℃under dark conditions. Different thermoluminescence characteristics were exhibited depending on the type or amounts of doping elements, and the highest luminance of 370 cd/m2 was obtained when Dy 10 % and Na 5 % were co-doped.
