In the present study, the numerical investigation has been carried out to see the effects of water mist sprays on the fire suppression mechanism. The special-purposed program named as FDS was used to simulate the interaction of fire plume and water mists. This program solves the fire-driven flows using LES turbulence model, the mixture fraction combustion model, the finite volume method of radiation transport for a non-scattering gray gas, and conjugate heat transfer between wall and gas flow. The computational domain was composed of a rectangular space dimensioned as $L{\times}W{\times}H=4.0{\times}4.0{\times}2.5\;m^3$ with a mist-injecting nozzle installed 1.0 m high from the fire pool. In this paper, two types of nozzles were chosen to compare the performance of the fire suppression. Numerical results showed that the nozzle, type A, with more orifices having smaller diameters had poorer performance than the other one, type B because the flow injected through side holes deteriorated the primary flow. The fire-extinguishing time of type A was 2.6 times bigger than that of type B.
A comprehensive in-situ tests are performed to define the hydrogeologic and hydrodispersive characteristics such as hydraulic conductivities, longitudinal dispersivity, and average linear velocities as well as conducting flow-net analysis at the study area. The results show that the study area is very heterogeneous so that hydraulic conductivities range from $6.45{\times}10^{-7}$ to $1.15{\times}10^{-5}m/s$ with average linear velocities of 0.34~0.62m/day. Whole groundwater in upper-most aquifer is discharging into the sea with specific discharge rate of $7.2{\times}10^{-3}$ to $1.3{\times}10^{-2}m/day$. The longitudinal dispersivity of the aquifer is estimated about 4.8m through In-situ injection phase test. The area is highly vulnerable to potential contaminant sources due to it's high value of DRASTIC index ranging from 139 to 155 and also under water table condition with very shallow groundwater level. To delineate contaminant plumes of toxic NaOH and carcinogenic benzene when these substances are assumed to be leaked through existing TSDF at the study area by unexpected accidents or spill, Aquifer Simulation Model (ASM) including Flow and Transport Model is used. Te simulated results reveal that the size of NaOH plume after 5 years continuous leak is about $250{\times}100m$ and benzene after 10 years, $490{\times}100m$. When the groundwater is abstracted about 50 days, which is maximum continuously sustained no-precipitation period during 30 years, with pumping rate of $100m^3/day$, THWELL program shows that the groundwater is adversly affected by sea water intrusion.

Vertical vibration tests were conducted using model footings of different size and mass resting on the surface of finite sand layer with different height to width ratios which was underlain by either rigid concrete base, under both dry and saturated condition. The effect of saturation on the damping ratio of finite sand stratum underlain by a rigid base has been verified and compared with the results obtained for the case of finite dry sand stratum underlain by the rigid base. Comparison of results of the experimental study showed that the damping in both the cases is less than 10%. The damping ratio obtained for finite saturated sand stratum is marginally lower than that obtained on finite dry sand stratum at H/B ratio of 0.5. The difference between the two cases becomes significant when the H/B ratio increases to 3.0, indicating the significant influence of soil moisture on damping ratio of foundation- soil system with increase in the thickness of the finite sand stratum. Comparison of the predicted damping ratio for a homogeneous sand stratum with the experimental damping ratio obtained corresponding to the height to width ratio of 3.0 of the finite sand stratum underlain by the rigid concrete base indicates a significant reduction in damping ratio of the foundation-soil system for both the cases.

Effect of polyphenols-rich cacao extract (CE) on lipid hydrolysis by pancreatic lipase was investigated by pH-stat digestion. Two types of substrate (oil vs. emulsion) prepared from soybean oil and CE were studied as types I and II. In the case of type I, addition of CE did not show retardation of lipid hydrolysis, showing that pancreatic lipase was not inhibited. Final digestibility rate (${\Phi}$ max, %) and initial rate (mM/s) of the 24-h aged control (52.31%, 0.03 mM/s) were similar to those of the CE-added sample (58.88%, 0.03 mM/s). However, in the case of typeII, the hydrolysis rates of the control and CE-added emulsion showed distinct differences as aging time increased to 43 days, showing lower digestion in the CE-added emulsion than the control. After 43 days, ${\Phi}$ max values of the control and CE-added emulsion were 92.13% and 77.68%, respectively.
A natural habit at bacterium, Enterobacter intermedious KH410 was isolated from freshwater plant root and identified. Adsorption of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and copper by this strain was examined. The minimal inhibitory concentrations(MIC) for each metal were 1.78 mM for lead, 0.17 mM for cadmium and 1.39 mM for lopper, respectively. Maximum production of dried cell was 2.56 g/$\ell$ in LB medium containing 0.5% NaCl, 1% yeast extract and 1% of lactose. Optimal conditions for adsorption were 0.6 dry g-biomass, at pH 4.0 and the temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. Adsorption equilibrium reached maximum after 30 min in 400 mg/$\ell$ metal solution. The adsorption capacity (K) of copper was 1.5 times higher than that of cadmium and lead was 1.1 times higher than that of cadmium. from the results obtained in this study, Freundlich adsorption model was applicable for all metals. Adsorption strength (1/n) of heavy metal ions were in the order of cadmium>copper>lead. The adsorption of dried cell for lead, cadmium, and copper was 56.2, 58.0, 55.8 mg/g-biomass, respectively. Pretreatment to increase ion strength was the most effective with 0.1 M NaOH whereas slight difference was found both KOH and $CaCl_2$ upon same concentration. Effective desorption was induced by 0.1 M EDTA for lead and 0.1 M $HNO_2$ for cadmium and copper.
In the present study, the numerical investigation on the effects of water-mist characteristics has been carried out for the fire suppression mechanism. The FDS are used to simulate the interaction of fire plume and water mists, and program describes the fire-driven flows using LES turbulence model, the mixture fraction combustion model, the finite volume method of radiation transport for a non-scattering gray gas, and conjugate heat transfer between wall and gas flow. The numerical model is consisted of a rectangular enclosure of $L{\times}W{\times}H=1.5{\times}1.5{\times}2.0m$ and a water mist nozzle that be installed 1.8m from fire pool. In the study, the parameters of nozzle for simulation are the droplet size and the spray velocity. Finally, the droplet size influences to fire flume on fire suppression than spray velocity because of the effect of terminal velocity, and the optimal condition for fire suppression is that the droplet size and the spray velocity are $100{\mu}m$ and 20m/s, respectively.

The excess molar enthalpies $H_m^E$ at T=298.15 K and p=101.3 kPa of ternary system {1,2-dichloropropane (1,2-DCP) + 1,3-dioxolane+ 1,4-dioxane} were predicted by using the binary contribution model of $Radojkovi{\check{c}}$ with correlated sub-binary Redlich-Kister parameters. Excess partial molar enthalpies ${\bar{H}}_i^E$ were also calculated for the binary systems {1,2-dichloropropane + 1,3-dioxolane}, {1,2-dichloropropane + 1,4-dioxane} and {1,3-dioxolane + 1,4-dioxane} using adjustable parameters of Redlich-Kister equation. By extrapolation of excess partial molar enthalpies to infinite dilution, limiting excess partial molar enthalpies ${\bar{H}}_i^{E,{\infty}}$ of each component were also obtained. The ternary excess molar enthalpies excess partial molar enthalpies of these sub-binary systems have been calculated by using our previously reported results.

The risk of project execution increases due to the enlargement and complexity of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) plant projects. In the fourth industrial revolution era, there is an increasing need to utilize a large amount of data generated during project execution. The design is a key element for the success of the EPC plant project. Although the design cost is about 5% of the total EPC project cost, it is a critical process that affects the entire subsequent process, such as construction, installation, and operation & maintenance (O&M). This study aims to develop a system using machine-learning (ML) techniques to predict risks and support decision-making based on big data generated in an EPC project's design and construction stages. As a result, three main modules were developed: (M1) the design cost estimation module, (M2) the design error check module, and (M3) the change order forecasting module. M1 estimated design cost based on project data such as contract amount, construction period, total design cost, and man-hour (M/H). M2 and M3 are applications for predicting the severity of schedule delay and cost over-run due to design errors and change orders through unstructured text data extracted from engineering documents. A validation test was performed through a case study to verify the model applied to each module. It is expected to improve the risk response capability of EPC contractors in the design and construction stage through this study.
Selenium has been identified as an element of interest for the safety assessment of a deep geological repository (DGR) for used nuclear fuel. In Canada, groundwaters at DGR depths in sedimentary rocks have been observed to have a high ionic strength. This paper examines the sorption behavior of Se(-II) onto illite, MX-80 bentonite, Queenston shale, and argillaceous limestone in Na-Ca-Cl solutions of varying ionic strength (0.1-6 mol/kgw (m)) and across a pH range of 4-9. Little ionic strength dependence for Se(-II) sorption onto all solids was observed except that sorption at high ionic strength (6 m) was generally slightly lower than sorption at low ionic strength (0.1 m). Illite and MX-80 exhibited the expected results for anion sorption, while shale and limestone exhibited more constant sorption across the pH range tested. A non-electrostatic surface complexation model successfully predicted sorption of Se(-II) onto illite and MX-80 using the formation of an inner-sphere surface complex and an outer-sphere surface complex. Optimized values for the formation reactions of these surface species were proposed.
