Sol-gel Coating of ZrO2 Film in Aluminium Etch Pit and Anodizing Properties (알루미늄 에치피트에 ZrO2 막의 졸-겔 코팅 및 양극산화 특성)

  • $ZrO_2$ films were coated on aluminum etching foil by the sol-gel method to apply $ZrO_2$ as a dielectric material in an aluminum(Al) electrolytic capacitor. $ZrO_2$ films annealed above $450^{\circ}C$ appeared to have a tetragonal structure. The withdrawal speed during dip-coating, and the annealing temperature, influenced crack-growth in the films. The $ZrO_2$ films annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ exhibited a dielectric constant of 33 at 1 kHz. Also, uniform $ZrO_2$ tunnels formed in Al etch-pits $1{\mu}m$ in diameter. However, $ZrO_2$ film of 100-200 nm thickness showed the withstanding voltage of 15 V, which was unsuitable for a high-voltage capacitor. In order to improve the withstanding voltage, $ZrO_2$-coated Al etching foils were anodized at 300 V. After being anodized, the $Al_2O_3$ film grew in the directions of both the Al-metal matrix and the $ZrO_2$ film, and the $ZrO_2$-coated Al foil showed a withstanding voltage of 300 V. However, the capacitance of the $ZrO_2$-coated Al foil exhibited only a small increase because the thickness of the $Al_2O_3$ film was 4-5 times thicker than that of $ZrO_2$ film.

Syntheses and Mechanical Properties of Quaternary Cr-Si-O-N Coatings by Hybrid Coating System (하이브리드 코팅시스템에 의한 Cr-Si-O-N 코팅막 합성 및 기계적 성질)

  • In the present work, the influence of oxide on the Cr-Si-N coatings was investigated for the Cr-Si-O-N coatings on AISI 304 and Si wafer deposited by hybrid system, which combines the DC magnetron sputtering technique and arc ion plating (AIP) using Cr and Si target in an $Ar/N_2/O_2$ gaseous mixture. As the O content in the Cr-Si-N coatings increased, the diffraction patterns of the Cr-Si-O-N coatings showed CrN and $Cr_2O_3$ phases. However, as the O content increased to 28.8 at.%, diffraction peak of $Cr_2O_3$ was disappeared in the Cr-Si-O-N coating. The $d_{200}$ value was decreased with increasing of O content. The average grain size increased from about 40 nm to 65 nm as the O content increased. The maximum micro-hardness of the Cr-Si-O-N coating was obtained 4507 Hk at the O content of 24.8 at.%. The average friction coefficient of the Cr-Si-O-N coatings was gradually decreased by increasing the O content and the average friction coefficient decreased from 0.37 to 0.25 by increasing the O content. These results indicated that amorphous phase was increased in the Cr-Si-O-N coatings by increasing of O content.

The Electric Characteristics of $Ba_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}TiO_{3}$ by Coating Numbers (코팅 횟수에 따른 $Ba_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}TiO_{3}$ 박막의 전기적 특성)

  • The high permittivity are applied to DRAM and FRAM. (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ (EST) thin films were prepared by Sol-Gel method. BST solution was made and spin-coated on $Pt/SiO_2/Si$ substrate at 4000 [rpm] for 10 seconds in a time coating. Coated specimens were dried at $90[^{\circ}C]$ for 5 minutes. Coating process was repeated from 3 times to 5 times and then sintered at $750[^{\circ}C]$ for 30 minutes. Each specimen was analyzed structure and electrical characteristics. Thickness of BST ceramics thin films are about 2600-2800[$\AA$] in 3 times. Dielectric constant of thin films was little decreased at 1[KHz]~1[MHz]. Dielectric constant and loss to frequency were 250 and 0.02 in BST3. The property of leakage current was stable When the applied voltage was 0~3[V] Leakage current was $10^{9}\sim10^{11}$[A] at 0~3[V].

Fabrication and Characterization of Porous TCP coated Al2O3 Scaffold by Polymeric Sponge Method

  • A porous $Al_2O_3$, scaffold coated with tricalcium phosphate(TCP) was fabricated by replica method using polyurethane(PU) foam as a fugitive material. Successive coatings of $Al_2O_3$ and hydroxyapatite(HAp) were applied via dip coating onto polyurethane foam, which has a slender and well interconnected network. A porous structure was obtained after sequentially burning out the foam and then sintering at $1500^{\circ}C$. The HAp phase was changed to TCP phase at high temperature. The scaffold showed excellent interconnected porosity with pore sizes ranging from $300{\sim}700{\mu}m$ in diameter. The inherent well interconnected structural feature of PU foam remained intact in the fabricated porous scaffold, where the PU foam material was entirely replaced by $Al_2O_3$ and TCP through a consecutive layering process. Thickness of the $Al_2O_3$ base and the TCP coating was about $7{\sim}10{\mu}m$ each. The TCP coating was homogeneously dispersed on the surface of the $Al_2O_3$ scaffold.

Minimization of Porosity in Ceramic Coating on a Hydraulic Cylinder (유압실린더 세라믹코팅 기공률 최소화 방안)

  • The best way to prevent the corrosion of piston rod is a selection of quality of the material and method of construction which minimize the porosity. The high velocity oxy fuel(HVOF) method, which generates lower porosity than existing plasma spray, was applied to ceramic laminated bond layer. Porosity percentage fell to bellow 2%, lower than that of plasma spray at 7%. Coating material of ceramic-coated main layer was selected as the $Cr_2O_3$ affiliation material, which is more dense than $Al_2O_3$ affiliation. To fill up the pores formed after the coating process, we sealed the bond layer and main layer. Sealing process was performed twice, once after the coating and once after the grinding. Upon the anti-corrosion test on the sealed sample and on the non-sealed sample, it is confirmed that the sealed sample was not corroded for 1,000 hours while the non-sealed sample was corroded within 48 hours.

  • Catalytic combustion is one of the suitable methods for micro power source due to high energy density and it can be applied to micro structured chamber without consideration of quenching since it is flameless combustion. Catalyst loading in the micro structured combustion chamber is one of the most important issues in the development of micro catalytic combustors. In this research, to coat catalyst on the chamber wall, two methods were investigated. First, $Al_2O_3$ was selected as a support of Pt and $Pt/Al_2O_3$ was synthesized through the alumina sol-gel procedure. To improve the coating thickness and adhesion between catalyst and substrate, heat resistant and water solvable organic-inorganic hybrid binder was used. Porous silicon was also investigated as a catalyst support for platinum. Through the parametric studies of current density and etching time, fabrication process of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ of diameter and about $25{\mu}m$ depth pores was confirmed. Coated substrates were test in the micro channel combustor which was fabricated by the wet etching and machining of SUS 304. Using $Pt/Al_2O_3$ coated substrate and Pt coated porous silicon substrate, conversion rate of fuel was over 95 % for $H_2/Air$ premixed gas.

Preparation of Ferroelectric $YMnO_3$ Thin Films by Metal-Organic Decomposition Process and their Characterization (Metal-Organic Decomposition법에 의한 강유전성 $YMnO_3$ 박막의 제조 및 특성)

  • The ferroelectric YMnO3 thin films were prepared by MOD(metal-organic decomposition) method with Y- and Mn-acetylacetonate as starting materials. Thin films were grown on various substrates by spin-coating technique. The crystalline phases of the thin films were identified by X-ray diffractometer as a function of heat-treatment temperature, pH of coating solution and substrate. In addition, the effect of Mn/Y molar ratio(0.8~1.2) on the formation of hexagonal-YMnO3 phase was investigated. In forming highly c-axisoriented hexagonal-YMnO3 single phase, the Pt coated Si substrate was more effective than the bare Si substrate, and the optimum heat-treatment condition was at 82$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Higher Mn/Y molar ratio within 0.8~1.2 and pH of YMnO3 precursor solution within 0.5~2.5 favored formation of ferroelectric hexagonal phase rather than orthorhombic phase. Leakage current density of the hexagonal-YMnO3 thin film formed on Pt(111)/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrate was low enough as 0.4~4.0$\times$10-8(A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) at 5 V and its remanent polarization(Pr), calculated from the P-E hysteresis loop, was 3 nC/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

Anti-Reflective Coating with Hydrophilic/Abraion-Resistant Properties using TiO2/SiOxCy Double-Layer Thin Film (TiO2/SiOxCy 이중 박막을 이용한 투명 친수성/내마모성 반사방지 코팅)

  • A double-layered anti-reflective coating with hydrophilic/abrasion-resistant properties was studied using anatase titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) and silicon oxycarbide($SiO_xC_y$) thin film. $TiO_2$ and $SiO_xC_y$ thin films were sequentially deposited on a glass substrate by DC sputtering and PECVD, respectively. The optical properties were measured by UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. The abrasion-resistance and the hydrophilicity were observed by a taber abrasion tester and a contact angle analyzer, respectively. The $TiO_2/SiO_xC_y$ double-layer thin film had an average transmittance of 91.3%, which was improved by 10% in the visible light region (400 to 800 nm) than that of the $TiO_2$ single-layer thin film. The contact angle of $TiO_2/SiO_xC_y$ film was $6.9^{\circ}$ right after UV exposure. After 9 days from the exposure, the contact angle was $10.2^{\circ}$, which was $33^{\circ}$ lower than that of the $TiO_2$ single-layer film. By the abrasion test, $SiO_xC_y$ film showed a superior abrasion-resistance to the $TiO_2$ film. Consequently, the $TiO_2/SiO_xC_y$ double-layer film has achieved superior anti-reflection, hydrophilicity, and abrasion resistance over the $TiO_2$ or $SiO_xC_y$ single-layer film.

Effect of Processing Parameters and Powder Size on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Y2O3 Coatings Fabricated by Suspension Plasma Spray

  • The suspension plasma spray (SPS) technique has been used to obtain dense $Y_2O_3$ coatings and to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional air plasma spray (APS). SPS uses suspensions containing micrometer or sub-micrometer sized powders dispersed in liquid media. In this study, microstructure developments and mechanical properties have been investigated as functions of particle size of source material and plasma processing parameters such as plasma power and stand-off distance. The microstructure of the coating was found to be highly related to the particle size and the plasma processing parameters, and it was directly reflected in the hardness and the adhesion strength. When fine powder (BET $16.4m^2/g$) was used as a raw material in the suspension, there was, with increasing stand-off distance, a change from a dense structure with a slightly bumpy surface to a porous structure with a cauliflower-like surface. On the other hand, when a coarse powder (BET $2.8m^2/g$) was used, the coating density was lower, with microscopic splats on the surface. Using fine $Y_2O_3$ powders, the coating layer with an optimum short stand-off distance showed a high hardness of approximately 90% of that of sintered $Y_2O_3$ and an adhesion strength several times higher than that of the coating by conventional APS.

A Novel Atomic Layer Deposited Al2O3 Film with Diluted NH4OH for High-Efficient c-Si Solar Cell

  • In this paper, $Al_2O_3$ film deposited by thermal atomic layer deposition (ALD) with diluted $NH_4OH$ instead of $H_2O$ was suggested for passivation layer and anti-reflection (AR) coating of the p-type crystalline Si (c-Si) solar cell application. It was confirmed that the deposition rate and refractive index of $Al_2O_3$ film was proportional to the $NH_4OH$ concentration. $Al_2O_3$ film deposited with 5 % $NH_4OH$ has the greatest negative fixed oxide charge density ($Q_f$), which can be explained by aluminum vacancies ($V_{Al}$) or oxygen interstitials ($O_i$) under O-rich condition. $Al_2O_3$ film deposited with $NH_4OH$ 5 % condition also shows lower interface trap density ($D_{it}$) distribution than those of other conditions. At $NH_4OH$ 5 % condition, moreover, $Al_2O_3$ film shows the highest excess carrier lifetime (${\tau}_{PCD}$) and the lowest surface recombination velocity ($S_{eff}$), which are linked with its passivation properties. The proposed $Al_2O_3$ film deposited with diluted $NH_4OH$ is very promising for passivation layer and AR coating of the p-type c-Si solar cell.
